Well, dear readers, I this is allergy-related it’s the worst EVER. Could also just be a cold, I suppose. Whatever it is, I’m against it. I have used endless Kleenex, had cough syrup, sprayed Flonase at three, took another Claritin-D just now, have some Ny-Quil for bedtime and hoping my voice doesn’t go. I was fairly miserable all day and night and on top of all that, four hours of sleep. I tried the go back to bed but couldn’t even last five minutes. I will admit here and now and now and here that I am a big baby when I’m under the weather, which is why I like to be over the weather or the rainbow. I spent most of the day entering proofer one’s fixes, so my eyeballs are not focusing at all. I had to do two Amazon Fresh orders and one CVS order – that was annoying. I had a couple of brief telephonic conversations – trying not to talk too much. Got the flyer for the July Kritzerland show and sent it to the club, so as soon as it goes live, I’ll announce everywhere. I had hot dogs for lunch – one mustard and onions and two chili, cheese, and onions. They were fine and not too many calories. I had some pie left over so I had some of that. Nothing tastes very good right now. I entered fixes on about 140 pages so far and then I watched a motion picture I haven’t seen in quite a while, the original Planet of the Apes movie. It’s still great after all these years and all the CGI versions all pale in comparison because you just know it’s not real. The make-up is brilliant, but the film really succeeds because it has a great script by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling – mostly Mr. Wilson, but still some Rod left. It succeeds because it has a brilliant score by Jerry Goldsmith. But mostly it succeeds because it has great humor to leaven the serious stuff and it is perfectly cast, which is why it REALLY succeeds. Charlton Heston is perfect, Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter are so believable and wonderful, and Maurice Evans was a completely inspired choice, just as he was in Rosemary’s Baby. I remember seeing it on opening day, the seven o’clock show at the Beverly Theater in Beverly Hills. The audience reaction was through the roof – laughs, cheers – it was like Jaws in that regard. None of the sequels even come close. Franklin Schaffner’s direction is tops, too. I watched it on the Tube of You and it’s clearly the latest transfer, which is gorgeous. So, that was really fun to see again. Then I went back to entering fixes, and here we are.
Today, I’ll be home, hoping to put this crud behind me. I did cancel the birthday party and the doctor – not going to make others sick. So, I’ll hopefully get a good night’s sleep, I’ll enter the rest of the fixes and then wait for proofer two, I’ll choose more songs (almost done), I’ll eat something that I can hopefully get some enjoyment out of, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow will be more of that, and so will every day until I’m back to normal or at least next to normal. Can’t really make any plans till this is done.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, stay put, hope to put this crud behind me, enter fixes, choose songs, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: How many Planet of the Apes movies did you see? How many saw the first one when it came out and what was the audience like? Did you like any of the CGI remakes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping this crud leaves soon because whatever it is, I’m against it.
