July 31, 2025:

AIN’T MISBEHAVIN’

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I don’t really know how it happened, but this is the last day of July, which means that tomorrow will be the first day of August, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that August will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. And modern major miracles of the large and small variety. But for now, it’s the last day of July and it would be so loverly if it was a loverly day – take for instance getting a galley and covers to approve. Take for another instance getting a new computer because this one is misbehavin’ like crazy, and I am petrified it will bite the dust in the middle of doing something important. It’s been a good computer for most of its ten-YEAR life, but you can’t even do updates to new operating systems on it, everything is slow as slow can be. We need a new computer that ain’t misbehavin’, if you get my meaning. With all the new-fangled doodads and dadoods. With the latest chips, new innards, and fun things that are fun. A fast and furious speed. With storage space to spare – two terabytes. I do have to get a cord that can go into the latest USB drives whilst also going into my old computer’s old USB ports that are no longer used. And then a cord that will do the opposite so I can plug in my old drives to the new USB ports. Even though I think everything on this computer is saved in the cloud, I want to back it all up to a drive, too. I have two options in terms of what to get – the all-in-one iMac, which means all the latest stuff but downgrading to a 24-inch screen from my 27-inch screen, which I don’t really want to do. Or get the mac mini with two terabytes and a 27-inch monitor, which is what I think I’ll end up doing because I really like and need the larger real estate. So, today or tomorrow I’ll go to the Apple Store and make decisive decisions. But let’s talk about yesterday and it can be a short talk because not all that much happened.

I got eight hours of sleep, arising at eleven. I had my English muffin with cherry jam and pill one. Then I finally got my gal on the phone at the publisher, mostly to ask a question about the book order I’ll be placing, but also to have her get on the people who seem to be dragging their feet. That apparently worked because I got an e-mail saying I’d get the galley and covers either today or tomorrow. I’m hoping today because I know the guy in charge only works until noon on Friday. I did some work on the computer, then at four I had two tuna sandwiches and pill two. Later, I had a couple of slices of pizza with pill three. I couldn’t really find a movie to watch, so I watched part one of the Billy Joel documentary – it’s really good but a bit long at two and a half hours for each of the two parts. And I also watched the first hour of part two and that’s good so far. I had a couple of telephonic conversations along the way. And that was pretty much it and it was pretty much that.

Today, I’ll try to be up by nine, I’m hopeful the galley and covers will arrive, and I hope they didn’t screw up anything so I can just approve them and be done with this phase. I’ll go to the mail place and hopefully pick up two important envelopes, after which I’ll go to the Apple Store to get the USB cord and to chat about my best options. I’ll eat food three times for the three pills, but I’m going to try and eat nothing heavy. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow will be a new month and I’ll do my banking and do whatever else needs doing and then I’ll probably see a show on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by nine, hopefully get the galley and covers to approve and hopefully they’ll be fine so that I CAN approve, I’ll eat something fun, I’ll go to the Apple Store and to the mail place to hopefully pick up two important envelopes, I’ll come home, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Billy Joel songs? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping to approve galley and covers and get a new computer that ain’t misbehavin’.
