Well, dear readers, the fixes are in or at least it will be when I get up in the morning. I spent most of yesterday finishing proofing. I actually couldn’t fall asleep and was up until almost four proofing, then I decided to Ny-Quil after all, and that knocked me out but quick and I slept till noon – eight hours. Feeling a bit better ever day save for the residual gunk that’s still there mucking up my voice – I think my voice would get stronger if I could just get rid of the last bits of gunk. Oh well, we shall be ever hopeful. At two, I took a break and had a chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK. Hadn’t had it in quite a while and it was very good. It came with some bread, but I didn’t eat it. Then it was back to proofing, which I finished around four or thereabouts. Found one huge whopper – thank goodness I caught it because if you were just reading it or looking at it you’d never have known. Whew! Otherwise, it was fairly small stuff – a couple of hyphens that should have been em dashes and a couple of em dashes that should have been hyphens. A few missing letters or extra letters here and there – just stuff like that. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish and dozed off for a bit. I watched a few YouTube videos, watched thirty minutes of a bad sci-fi movie called Space Master X-7 – amusing on certain levels and I may finish it – it’s only seventy minutes. It does have some fun folks in it, including Paul Frees, Judd Holdren (one of several actors who played Commando Cody), and of all people, Moe Howard of The Three Stooges. Edward Bernds, the director, directed many Three Stooges shorts. And the co-writer of the screenplay was Daniel Mainwaring, a very good writer who wrote the novel Build My Gallows High, which was made into the classic film noir, Out of the Past. He also wrote the screenplay for Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Then I tried watching the first episode of a new cop series called Ballard. It’s based on a mystery series by Michael Connelly, who did the Bosch books. I know people love him, but I didn’t really love the first few Bosch books and while I watched a few episodes of that series, I just couldn’t get with it. I watched twenty minutes and shut it off – not for me. Then I ordered some soup from a Thai place – clear broth with chicken and vegetables, hoping the hot soup clear broth might be good for clearing the remaining gunk. Don’t know for sure, but the soup is pretty good. And here we are.
Today, I’ll try to be up by ten-thirty. I’m waiting on a call from my gal at the publishers, then I’ll send the fixes in and hopefully it won’t take too long to do them. Then it’s doing the show order and writing the commentary. I’ll eat something and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same and if my voice is still wonky I’ll try to get into Cedars to get the prednisone pill pack. Thursday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday I rest, Saturday is our second rehearsal, Sunday and Monday I rest, and then it’s stumble-through on Tuesday, sound check and show on Wednesday.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by ten-thirty, hopefully have a call from the publisher, send the fixes in, eat, do the show order and write commentary, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite 1950s cheesy sci-fi movies? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the fixes are in.
