Well, dear readers, first of all, thanks to all for the book orders – this one’s selling more than usual, which is lovely – and especially thanks for the health well wishes. I’m back from seeing a new play and prior to that having a meal at Nate ‘n’ Al’s – they’re going to have to move in a year to another location, which they’re already planning for. But I’m afraid its glory days are in the past – the last few times I’ve eaten there the food has not been what it once was. I had my usual pastrami on rye with coleslaw and Russian dressing. The pastrami was tough and rubbery – at Langer’s it practically melts in your mouth – the fries were cold. The Russian dressing and coleslaw were fine. The play we saw had some funny stuff in it and was well acted and directed. I found it a little long for its own good, especially the second act, which is longer than the first. I also thought there were too many endings. There was the first one when we all thought that was the end, but then there’s a dream sequence that I didn’t think worked – I understand why it’s there, but frankly I think the play would be better without it. The tonal shifts in act two are interesting. The audience was very responsive, and it was almost a full house. I knew quite a few folks in the audience, and certainly quite a few onstage. Several Group Rep members were there both in the audience and onstage. I didn’t think I knew who the playwright was but as soon as I saw him, I realized it was the nice guy who used to co-host with Michael Sterling an arts radio show I did quite a few times. This is his first play. The director is the former artistic director of the Group Rep. Prior to all that, I can’t remember if I got seven or eight hours of sleep, but I do believe it was eight. I got up at noon o’clock, printed out book and CD orders, then relaxed until it was time to shave and shower. Then Barry Pearl picked me up (no mean feat) and we drove to the Hills of Beverly for our dinner and play. After the talkback, I chatted with a few people and then Barry drove me home. Then I was having a craving for some pie, so I damn well ordered a slice from the House of Pies, along with some clam chowder and a tiny side salad because we ate rather early, and I was a bit hungry.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll be having a ME day, although I need to go to the mail place and pick up whatever’s there and to pay the renewal fee for my mailbox there – I think I’ve had this box for twenty-five years now, maybe a bit more. Yikes. Then I’m hoping for more orders (after yesterday morning, there were none for the rest of the day and evening), and then I’ll eat something fun, I’ll be on my first day of medication, so I have to eat something before taking each pill, so that will take some getting used to. Mostly, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
This week, I’m not sure what’s going on – I’m hoping to get a new computer by the end of the week – that will be the big and most important thing – and, of course, we’re heading into a new month, too. I’m sure there’ll be meetings and meals along the way.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, have a ME day, go to the post office, start on the medication, eat, hope for more orders, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be starting on medication that will hopefully be helpful to my eye issues, which is what it’s supposed to be helping, pills being the proper term for dolls.
