Well, dear readers, we had us a fun stumble-through – great cast, great songs, the show structure works well, and aside from a few lyric fumfers, it all ran very smoothly. Prior to the stumble-through, I only got four hours of sleep – I really should have cancelled she of the Evil Eye but alas, I did not. I was out the door by eight-thirty and went and had some bacon and eggs and toast. Then I went to CVS and got more Claritin-D. Then I went to Gelson’s and got some ham, Swiss cheese, mini-pickles, and some French rolls, so I could make a sandwich after the stumble-through. Then I came home, got everything ready, shaved, and then we did the stumble-through. For some reason, I was feeling a bit queasy, so I didn’t make the sandwich until seven. It was fine. My voice was a bit hoarse after the talking I had to do, so I just rested it – it’s still not strong, but hopefully if I get a good night’s sleep it will be by show time tomorrow. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish and tried to find a movie to watch, but instead I began watching an old episode of The Roy Rogers Show. I did watch it when I was a kid, but although I like him and Trigger, it was never my favorite. My all-time favorite western when I was a youngster was, of course, The Lone Ranger. I also loved Annie Oakley, starring Gail Russell, and The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, starring Guy Madison. A few years on, I loved Wanted: Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen and the best of that era was Have Gun, Will Travel. Then I loved Maverick, but only the episodes with James Garner. I never watched Bonanza, not one episode, but did watch Gunsmoke every now and then, and also Wagon Train. Oh, and sometimes The Rifleman and Bat Masterson. I, of course, had my Fanner 50 gun and my Wanted: Dead or Alive rifle. And we could wear them out in public and no one gave a second thought to it. It was a time. Why am I waxing nostalgic? Anyway, about five minutes into The Roy Rogers Show, I went out like a light and woke up about three episodes later. Then I did some stuff on the computer and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven-thirty at the latest (I’ll try to be in bed by twelve-thirty), then I’ll rest my voice and relax until it’s time to shave and shower and get beautified for the show. Then I’ll mosey on over to the club for our five o’clock soundcheck. I’ll probably leave at four, just to be on the safe side. Once soundcheck is done, I’ll probably have the little Caesar salad. Doors open at seven and I’ll probably know many people who are coming. I still have no real idea how many there are, other than I know for sure we’ll have close to eighty. Then we’l do our show and I’m not sure whether we’ll go anywhere after – it just gets too late when I have to wait there for our check. So, I’ll probably just come home and get something via DoorDash or make a sandwich or even have the club prepare me something I can take home with me.
Tomorrow, I do nothing but rest and relax. Not sure we’ll have a galley by the end of the week, but I’ll keep on them about it, for sure. Then on Friday, I see my eye doctor at two-thirty, after which, I’ll come right home. I’m hoping that leaving at one-thirty will avoid the Laurel Canyon traffic. The weekend is unknown at this time.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven-thirty at the latest, rest my voice and relax, shave and shower and get beautified, have a soundcheck, have a salad, and do our show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, singing Happy Trails to You just like Roy and Dale.
