Well, dear readers, this month if flying by, like a gazelle waiting for a 2TB Mac Mini to be delivered, the irony of which is so am I. In other news, the soft and hardcover of Richard and Me is up on Amazon – first they were listed separately, but now they’re consolidated, but they need to consolidate the eBook, too, and then those two reviews will show up for all three releases. I’ll push that again on Monday unless it happens over the weekend. Once that happens, I’ll do a big Facebook post and also Facebook ad. In other news, yesterday was Friday and it was perfectly okay. I only got about five hours of sleep and got up, answered e-mails, some of which were interesting, then I did my banking – neither bank was busy and the whole affair between the two banks took about six minutes. I didn’t go to the mail place because it was too early for the mail to have been put out – hopefully the second important envelope arrived, and I’ll pick that up today and get it deposited. I stopped at Gelson’s and got some grated parmesan cheese, which I was out of, and some ham, and some baby Swiss cheese, baby. Then I came home, threw out several bags of trashy trash. Of course, I had my English muffin and jam and pill one when I got up. I had the chopped Eyetalian salad from CPK for the big meal at one and took pill two after. After that, I did some work on the computer, then sat on my couch like so much fish and watched several episodes of a 1963 one-season TV show called Arrest and Trial, long before Law and Order basically did the same concept. Ben Gazzara is the star of the arrest half and Chuck Conners is the star of the trial half. Also regulars are Don Galloway, long before Ironside, and Roger Perry, who’d go on to marry Miss Jo Ann Worley. But once again, it’s the guest stars, many of whom were making very early appearances. In the first episode I watched, a very good and quirky Sandy Dennis was the guest star and in the second episode I watched, a very good George Segal was the guest star. And just three years later, both would co-star as husband and wife in the film of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and both would become major stars. A VERY young Joey Heatherton is in an episode with Kim Hunter. It’s not a great show – they did one season of thirty episodes – it was in a ninety-minute time slot. Chuck Conners is very tall. Ben Gazzara is endlessly laconic and basically gives the same performance in everything I’ve seen him in. Some interesting writers, too – Larry Cohen being one of them – and directors like Jack Smight, Sydney Pollack, and Elliot Silverstein doing early film work.
Best of all, it’s shot in LA and while there haven’t been a ton of locations shots, there are a few. I identified one as Pepper Avenue in Pasadena, although none of the buildings are there anymore. The Malibu pier plays a prominent role in one episode, and I’m sure some of the street scenes are on Lankershim, as it’s a Universal show. Also, a motel on Ventura Blvd. that was still there up until two years ago, when it was finally obliterated. I ended up watching about five episodes. All thirty were released on DVD and it isn’t that hard to find. In the early evening I had a small ham sandwich and took pill three. I ran out of chocolate licorice, so I had a couple of biscotti – they’re only seventy calories. And that was pretty much it for the day and evening.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll be having a telephonic conversation shortly thereafter, then I’ll relax, shave and shower. At four-thirty I’ll mosey on over to the mail place and hopefully the second important envelope will be there, then I’ll go have a nice dinner, then see a play.
Tomorrow is a ME day, then next week should be nice and busy.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, have a telephonic conversation, relax, then shave and shower, go to the mail place, hopefully pick up the second important envelope, eat, and see a play. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite egg dishes – how do you like them, what kind of omelets are your favorites, do you like Eggs Benedict, you know, all things eggs. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that consolidating the books has happened at Amazon and hoping they add the eBook shortly.
