Well, dear readers, I’ll keep these here notes short and sweet or perhaps even sweet and short, because I must be up no later than eight to get ready to see the neurologist. I know at the time I’ll be leaving the traffic on my usual route will just be too irritating, so I think I’ll take the alternate route and hope that’s better – it usually is. I have to check in by ten-fifteen, then the appointment is at ten-thirty and shouldn’t take longer than an hour, or so they say. I get very antsy about these doctor appointments – it would be better if they were in the Valley, but they are where they are. So, I’ll get these here notes written so I can shave and shower before bed and get to bed no later than twelve-thirty. I did watch a motion picture last night, one that I’d been wanting to see again, the horror film Orphan from 2009. This is my fourth viewing and while there are a few cheap “boo” scares that are completely unnecessary, that’s a minor annoyance because the rest of the film is so good. I do not like most horror films – just not my thing. But I’d heard such good things about Orphan that I streamed it because it was really cheap and I figured I could just shut it off if I hated. But for many reasons, I really liked it a lot. For me, it’s one of the best movies of the first decade of the 2000s and even the second decade. It’s very well directed, the script is very good, but it’s the acting that really sells it – Vera Farmiga, Peter Sarsgaard as the married couple adopting a nine-year-old, and Isabelle Fuhrman, who gives one of the best child performances ever. She should have been up for an Academy Award, that is how good she is. She doesn’t have a false moment in the film and even late in the film she pulls off the near impossible. The film was certainly a hit back then, but the reviews were mixed – interesting to read the bad ones and I’m guessing a few of those critics have quietly changed their opinion about the movie. The good reviews get the movie and laud it for the direction, performances, and story. Anyway, if you don’t mind a bit of violence I’d recommend this highly, just for the unique story and the performances. Prior to that, I’d had a sketchy night’s sleep – up and down, down and up – maybe five hours of sleep. I made some Wacky Noodles and the rest of the ground beef from a couple of days ago. Just adding the beef to the Wacky Noodles just doesn’t work and I shouldn’t have done it. I ate some of it and tossed the rest. Oh, and I had an English Muffin early, around seven-thirty.
After food, I moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up the two heavy boxes of books and came right home. Then the next two hours were spent signing them and getting them boxed for the helper to take. By the time I finished, it was way too late for the helper to come get them. I did proof, only about ten pages, though. Then I watched Orphan and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up at eight and out the door by eight-forty-five. I’ll try the alternate route, which will hopefully be fine, then I’ll have the appointment, after which I may stop at Farmer’s Market for food – not sure, though. If not, I’ll come home and order something from somewhere at some time. I’m hoping the helper will come get the books and get them shipped. Then I’ll go back to proofing and try to get a bunch of pages done. After that, I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow will be an all-proofing day and evening, with a movie or two for relaxation and the same thing goes for Sunday. I’m really hoping I can get it finished by Sunday. Then the upcoming week is very busy with all sorts of things.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight and out the door by eight-forty-five, have a doctor’s visit, either go to Farmer’s Market or come home and eat here, hopefully get the books to the helper for shipping, proof, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, who knows? Blu-ray, the von Sternberg/Dietrich films and some other stuff I pulled to watch. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have gotten all the books signed and ready for shipping.
