THE HIGH SPEED CHASE AND THE BAKED POTATO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I just had me a most loverly snack of clam chowder and baked potato. I really do love me a baked potato every few months, but I use way too much butter and sour cream – such is life because that’s what I love and what’s the point of a baked potato if you don’t slather it in butter and sour cream? Otherwise, I’ve been watching one of the hundreds of high-speed chases that occur here every few minutes. The people involved have gotten very savvy about these and know that if they head towards LAX then helicopters can’t do their thing easily, which is exactly what these cretins did. They crashed the first car they were in then because there was no law enforcement behind them at that point they had a friend pick them up and on the went with cops finally in pursuit, but the news helicopter was in LAX hell and they wouldn’t give an inch, even though I cannot imagine there’s a lot going on there now. Right now, the news helicopter had to fly around, and they can’t even find them at this point. No ground units, which is a real problem if other drivers don’t have lights and sirens to warn them of potential danger. Maddening. The ground units should have kept after them, but alas, this is L.A. and the watch commanders don’t really care – well, they care if they’re not in pursuit and the cretins still drive recklessly and injure or kill someone – then the blood is on their hands. They’re much more aggressive in other States. In other news, it’s still hot here in L.A. and I must cool the house down once again – third time today. I watched no motion pictures but did watch a few irritating YouTube videos. I did get eight hours of sleep, so that was nice. I got up at noon, just before food arrived – a turkey, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing on rye from Daughter’s Deli. It was good – not as good as the pastrami, but I wanted something lighter. Once I finished eating, I began proofing again and got to a slightly problematic section, content-wise, so I wrote the gal and we decided to soften one thing and get rid of the other, as it wasn’t really germane to the story she’s telling at that point. Anyway, I have crossed the Rubicon and am heading to the finish line – less than thirty pages to go but I already know there will be tons of stuff to do in these last pages. That was basically the day, plus a long telephonic conversation, plus catching up on a few other things, and now listening to Munch do more Ravel – and nobody did it better or in better sound. I think I’ll revisit some other favorite conductor sets that I haven’t heard since buying them – I think next could be George Szell. It’s so nice having all this stuff in the computer – so easy to get to.

And today on the Tube of You, I found a channel with tons of Easy Listening stuff, including several George Greeley albums that I loved as a kid. I’m going to grab those – I have them but from LP transfers – this channel has done everything from commercially-released reel-to-reel tapes, and so the sound is MUCH better. He also has a bunch of stuff I don’t have so I’m going to grab quite a few things when I have the time. Perhaps over the weekend.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll definitely finish proofing and then I just have to wait for the final three chapters from her husband’s proofing so I can enter those things onto our now new manuscript. As soon as that’s done, she’ll send it out for some blurbs. Had she sent what she had, no one would have been able to decipher it. I’ll eat something fun at some point, take pills, and then watch, listen, and relax.

The weekend shall be mine all mine and I don’t care who knows it. I will catch up on things, and I do believe all books will have been delivered, with the last of them arriving on Saturday. A bunch of people got them yesterday and a bunch will get them today.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, finish proofing, eat something fun, take pills, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, Munch and then perhaps some Szell. Blu-ray, The Hairdresser’s Husband and season one of the early 1960s British TV version of Maigret – Simenon was very fond of the actor who played him, so I’m looking forward to watching. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have recounted the late-night ramblings of The High Speed Chase and the Baked Potato.
