SOUP TO NUTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to more wonderful music from the composer Franz Schreker. More people should know his music, and I do always hope that dear readers will seek him out – plenty of his stuff on the Tube of You, whether his wonderful, atmospheric orchestral music, or his operas. He’s the real deal and, as you know, we always deal in the real deal here at haineshisway.com. We don’t deal in the fake deal here, the bogus deal, the fixed deal. We are on the up and up and never the down and down. In other news, I watched a couple of episodes of the new CNN docuseries about The Billionaires Boys Club. Having slept through most of the 1980s, I knew nothing about it other than hearing the name. I didn’t see either movie made about it, nor any of the other docs. Of course, I fell asleep through a few important parts, so I’ll have to go back and watch those, but it’s certainly interesting. Prior to that, I did get nine hours of sleep and felt much better than the day before – I really think that dye they inject for the CAT scan takes quite a while to pee (eep, spelled backwards) out. Once up, and I know this will come as a shock, I answered e-mails. I caught up on a few more things, then got another piano track to approve for the show – I listened, but I had to be on my way to a lunch meeting with Doug Haverty, so I told Richard Allen we’d talk when I got home, but that basically I loved it and just needed four bars at the top to get everyone onstage for the number, and four bars into the tap section, to get that set up. Then I moseyed on over to Doug’s, picked him up (not literally) and we went to nearby BJ’s for food, as I had two twenty-five-dollar gift card things from screwed up orders. It was pretty empty at two, I thought. We got a nice booth. Doug ordered a cup of clam chowder at my insistence (as did I), and an Asian salad, which he enjoyed very much, and I think he really liked the soup. I ordered what I always do – one of the thirteen-dollar lunch specials – small fried chicken breast with country gravy, a small portion of mashed potatoes, and some corn. It’s really great and I downed all of it. We also both ordered a mini-Pizooki – I had the chocolate chip one and Doug had some other one. They arrived and they accidentally made Doug the full-sized one – it was huge but only charged for the mini. The mini was perfect for me and Doug did leave quite a bit of the huge one because – it was HUGE. Soup to nuts, baby, although I don’t really recall any nuts save for the two people eating.

After that, I came right home and had a long telephonic conversation, did some work on the computer, gave Richard Allen those minor notes on the track, which he can now orchestrate, then I watched to documentary, sort of, had a small sweet potato for a snack and took pill three (all the others were taken right after lunch and the first was taken when I got up and had an English muffin, this time with cherry preserves. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty, and the meeting with the set guy that I thought was yesterday, is actually today at noon-thirty, so I’ll leave here around noon o’clock and mosey on over to the theater. That shouldn’t really take more than an hour, and then I’ll go have another nice sit-down lunch somewhere – I really do enjoy that. Maybe down by the theater, or maybe the Cheesecake Factory with my gift card. We shall see. Then I’ll have a telephonic call at some point and still hope for some good news re the missing drive for the Sherman Brothers album, and then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow and the weekend I’m hoping will be free and easy, that’s my style. Then next week we have to routine all the act two songs for the play and get those done. Both Richard and I want to get everything orchestrated before rehearsals begin, so the actors can learn from the tracks they’ll actually be singing to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, shave and shower, have a meeting, eat, hope for good news about a missing drive, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Soup, baby, soup. What is your first memory of eating soup? Homemade? Campbell’s chicken noodle soup? And what are your favorite canned soups, what are your favorite soups in restaurants, and what are your favorites to make at home? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall dream of both soup and nuts, not necessarily in that order.
