THE DARLING DAUGHTER PAYS A VISIT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much Friday fish, listening to Alexandre Desplat’s score for Jurassic World, a movie I’m intending to watch this weekend – it’s nice and of course incorporates John Williams’ iconic theme. In other breaking bombshell news, I just heard that yesterday was national daughter’s day – so wasn’t it lovely to spend the afternoon with the Darling Daughter and her friend. When they arrived, I ordered food for us from Maria’s Kitchen – my usual penne with pink sauce but instead of sausage I opted for two small meatballs. Unfortunately, I forgot to uncheck the sausage box so – I got both – a bit too much protein and certainly overwhelming to the pasta. I don’t mind a little whelming, but overwhelming is a bit too much for the likes of me. The girls split some pesto dish – I don’t like pesto. Pesto bugs me. And I’m sure I bug pesto. They spent time in the garage organizing stuff and I found all the Sherman Brothers charts I needed if we’re to rerecord at least some of the vocals. Then they took their leave to go do some other stuff, and I caught up on a bunch of stuff, since I’d spent ninety minutes on the phone with Apple about the CD drive issue. We tried many things, restarted the computer, fixed another issue that was really bugging me – it was something that we did when migrating and setting up the Mac Mini, and we finally got rid of it. But still a no go on the CD drive. Maddening. So, she had me take lots of screen shots and we’ll speak again after she gets those results. It’s not good if we can’t solve this, because I can’t even listen to CDs as I used to when I had my external blue tooth speakers. I could at least play the CDs using the laptop, where the drive works just fine, but now that I’m using the new monitor’s excellent speakers that can’t happen. And I really don’t want to hook those speakers up again. Anyway, I’m still hoping we can solve. After the girls left, I dozed off for a while, then watched a hyper low budget movie entitled Without Warning, starring Adam Williams, Edward Binns, and Meg Randall. It’s about a killer on the loose who does his nasty work with a pair of scissors. Strictly bottom of the bill stuff. It’s all filmed here in LA but no great shots, unfortunately – well, there are a couple of nice exteriors, but they’re all demolished, sadly. Interestingly, Adam Williams and Edward Binns, both of whom played leads in low budget potboilers, were both in Hitchcock’s North by Northwest in small but memorable roles. Anyway, that was pretty much it.

Today, the daughter and friend return at ten-thirty and they’re going to attempt to make some sense of my personal storage room – I have the card to get in and the key, so it should be relatively easy. What won’t be easy is even getting IN the room. We’ll see how they do. I have to go pick up a couple of prescriptions, especially one that I’ll run out of today. Then I’m meeting the Pearls for supper, after which we’ll attend an opening night.

The weekend is pretty open, and I hope it stays that way. Then next week we’re into a new month, namely October, and we get ready to cast the play, which I’m very much looking forward to. We also have to get the rest of the tracks done at least two weeks before rehearsals, and we’re on the hunt for a stage manager – we had the fellow who did a great job on Drat but he suddenly has to move back east. Go know.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, give the Darling Daughter and friend the storage stuff and send them on their merry way, pick up prescription (although I may do that early tomorrow morning, like seven, before the crowds), I’ll have a snack so I can take the necessary pills, then I’ll clean myself up and the Pearls will pick me up at five and off we’ll go to dine and see an opening night. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – just going through my Music stuff randomly. Several Blu-rays to watch. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, always happy when the Darling Daughter pays a visit to her Darling Dad.
