A FUN FIRST REHEARSAL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a really fun first rehearsal. Did our meet and greet, did my usual spiel, and then we practiced the music for the opening number. I’d found my speakers and put them in the car, and of course then forgot to put the laptop in the car – so we had to use a laptop of someone else’s and my speakers have the old USB cord so wouldn’t work, therefore you couldn’t really get it loud enough. Then I got everyone on their feet, and we just began. I got it all staged, kept making additions and adjustments and while I still have to work four missing people in it, I think it’s really fun and cute. I didn’t want to overdo anything or make it too busy. It’s also pretty short, under two minutes. Now everyone just has to work with the tracks and sharpen it up. We filmed it and made a Google Drive folder for everyone. We finished early and since I hadn’t figured out what to do next, I just ended the rehearsal. I stopped and got food to bring home. All I’d had all day was an English muffin. I came home and ate, then caught up on e-mails and stuff. Prior to that, I got around six and a half hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had the English muffin, took pills, found the speakers, shaved, and then finally moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up a couple of packages, one of which was the Petula Clark memoir, which doesn’t come out here in hardcover until early next year, so I got it from the UK. Of course, I checked the index immediately, but sadly neither I nor the album we did together are mentioned at all. But apparently, we’re in good company – there are tons of projects that receive nary a single word, and she even acknowledges it in the thank yous – left out as much as she put in. Looking forward to reading it. Then I went to the theater, got the speakers all hooked up before realizing I’d left the laptop at home. Oops. The rest you know, and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll do some prep work on the three short numbers I’ll try to get done tonight, I’ll eat something light, I’ll shower, then we’re meeting our lighting person at five, and then we have our second rehearsal.

Tomorrow is more of the same and then our third rehearsal, Friday is off, we work Saturday morning, and I’m hoping by then to have all but two of the group numbers done. The duets and solos are pretty easy – only one duet has real staging. Then I can start on the scenes. The show that’s rehearsing that has two of our cast members, opens in two and a half weeks and once that happens everything gets easier. The rest of the weekend is mine all mine.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, prep, eat, shower, meet with our lighting person, rehearse, and come home. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a fun first rehearsal.
