BACK TO WORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we were back rehearsing last night – still missing our two actors who are in the show that’s opening soon, but I asked Doug Haverty to fill in so I could at least block. And so, we dove in and blocked the entire sixteen pages that end the show, all of which takes place in a courtroom. We didn’t stage the four songs because I’d already staged them for the reading, and I liked what I did. I was given a video of those numbers and I’m just making notes about who sings what line and what the ography is. Richard Allen has to adjust a few things, now that I know what the staging is, so hopefully he can do that right away – it’s pretty simple stuff. We also ran all the number we’d done. I cleaned some of those up, and still we wrapped about twenty minutes early. I told everyone to go home and learn the lyrics and tunes so that tonight we could get all that done. All in all, a good night. I came right home after rehearsal. I’d gotten some lox, bagels, and cream cheese earlier at Gelson’s, so that was my snack, along with pill three. Very good. Then I had a ton of e-mails to answer, then I started listening to some Roy Harris, an excellent American composer and one of many that we featured on CD in the Bay Cities days. Earlier, I’d gotten six hours of sleep, then met Robert Yacko for breakfast at Good Neighbor. Now, the first time I was there, 90% of the parking spaces in their lot were open and there were only a couple of other diners there. The omelet was excellent. The second time I was there, there were only a few spots left and it was more crowded – the omelet was still excellent. And then there was yesterday. Exactly one place left, and it was tight, but I managed it. Robert had to make do with street parking. The jernt was jammed and the omelet was terrible. Maybe it was the holiday. Whatever it was, I’m not returning. From there, I put gas in the motor car, did my Gelson’s run, then came home. I had prep for the rehearsal, I dozed off for a bit, had some telephonic conversations, made some notes on the video from our staged reading, had a muffin top with pill two, then moseyed on over to the mail place and shipped a package, then moseyed on over to the theater and got everything set up. The rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty, I’ll talk to Richard Allen about the adjustments to a couple of tracks, I may have bagels and lox for food, or I may save that for snacking after rehearsal. I’ll watch the video and make lots of notes, I’ll shave and shower, I’ll do whatever needs doing and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater to finish the songs in that final act two sequence. I’m sure we’ll also run everything else we’ve done, and I may even start on the last of the big numbers we haven’t done. Then I’ll come home.

Tomorrow, I have several things to block and will be missing our leading lady. Friday is my day, Saturday we work in the morning, then we’re back on Tuesday, but rehearsing for the weeknight rehearsals at a nearby rehearsal studio, since the show that’s opening will be in final invited dress and previews mode, after which they finally open.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, talk to Richard Allen, eat something, watch a video and make copious notes, shave and shower, do whatever needs doing, have a rehearsal, then come home. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be back to work.
