Well, dear readers, it is Friday, a day of rest for me and rest I will as for the past four days I’ve only gotten five hours of sleep per night. I need a good night’s sleep after a hard day’s night. What am I, The Beatles all of a sudden? Right now, Miss Ethel Merman is singing, the original mono Decca album of Annie Get Your Gun, which sounds shockingly great. It’s really fun to hear Merman from this 1946 era. And what a perfect score by Mr. Berlin – amazing tunes, amazing lyrics, every song a winner. Otherwise, our rehearsal was fun – the usual drilling, futzing and finessing, and adding new things. And I have to say that the numbers are starting to look really good. Cheryl Baxter’s number for Saturday is postponed until the first Saturday we’re back, December 6. She caught a cold or something and won’t be better by tomorrow. The rains did come and by the time we wrapped our rehearsal at nine-thirty, it was coming down pretty good. I got another slice of pizza to take pill three with and came home. By the time I got to the freeway, it was really coming down hard, the motor car being pelted pretty good. I was happy to get home, get the motor car in the garage and me in my warm home environment. The slice of pizza was just right. Prior to all that, I got five hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, was going to go back to bed but I didn’t and instead spent a couple of hours following an auction – rare books, mostly sci-fi and mystery from a well-known collector’s estate – very pretty books, mostly in extraordinary condition. I suspect a lot of dealers were bidding up the prices – nothing really went cheaply except books that weren’t worth much to begin with. Some things did really well, surprisingly so – but that’s the auction game – you get two people who want something, and they don’t seem to care how much it costs them or how much over the high estimate. Anyway, after a while I got bored. I had Pad Thai for food and that was very good. I snoozed for an hour, had a nice telephonic conversation with dear reader Jeanne, shaved and showered, and when it was time, I moseyed on over to the rehearsal space. Then we had our rehearsal, and I let everyone go thirty minutes early. The rest you know and here we are. Now playing, Miss Merman singing I’m an Indian, Too – I don’t care what they say, it’s very funny, great tune, and the show doesn’t take place today, and Annie LIKES the Indians, and they like her. And now it’s I Got Lost in His Arms, a gorgeous Berlin ballad. I can’t get over how good this all sounds.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which hopefully won’t be much, I’ll eat something light and fun, maybe a salad, I think I’ll wait to go to the mail place until Saturday, since I’ll be down that way, otherwise I’m just resting and I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, we have rehearsal from ten to one, then I’ll eat something, go to the mail place, come home and relax, and then I’m seeing a play in the evening. Sunday is a ME day, then Monday we’ll block the only remaining scene – it’s a long one but I’ve already done the first four pages, so we should be fine. Then I need to put our two missing actors in the musical numbers we haven’t put them in yet and we’ll teach one of them the duet he does with our leading lady. Then everything will be blocked except Cheryl’s number. Then we’re off for the week. I’ve been invited to David Wechter’s for Thanksgiving. I’ve said no for the last few years for various reasons, so I felt like I had to say yes, but if it’s raining then I’ll get out of it, because it’s a long drive.
Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the mambo, for today is the birthday of our very own KevinH. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own KevinH. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN KEVINH!!!
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, some more Apple+ CDs. Streaming – about five new films via DGA streamers. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be inside and warm and cozy from the earlier real rain.
