THE BEST FILET MIGNON EVER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, with Tubin’s fifth symphony playing, I am sitting here like so much fish, having dozed off for most of the evening last night, which means, of course, that I did not watch a motion picture or do much of anything else. That was due to only four hours of sleep. That was due to staying up too late and then the phone ringing incessantly starting at eight in the morning. So, I got up, answered e-mails, had an English muffin and took all pills (Monday is the big pill day). Then I got ready for the early birthday lunch, did a few things before leaving, then moseyed on over to the Capital Grill in the Bank of Bur, meeting Howard Green and Brit friend of ours, Ian Gude. My first visit to this location was excellent, but I only had starters, all good. Soup, salad, shrimp cocktail. Yesterday, the fellows both ordered cheeseburgers, and both said it was the best they ever had. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and the filet mignon. Our server was the delightful Zoey. I ordered the steak well done but said I wouldn’t mind if there was a trace of pink. I ordered some Bearnaise sauce, and a little of their house made steak sauce. The steak itself came with some kind of butter on it, but it was very light whatever it was. Soup was very good. Steak arrived along with my chose side that it came with (creamed spinach). My first bite was sans sauces, and it was instantly the best filet mignon I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a LOT of filet mignons in some very fine restaurants. This melted in your mouth – tender as can be. Then I had the next bite with Bearnaise and that was amazing. I tried a small piece with their house sauce and it, too, was very good and unique, but I’m really a Bearnaise boy. So, I went back and forth between no sauce and the Bearnaise. It was an 8oz steak – 360 calories. I mean, one could lose a lot of weight on a filet mignon diet – one could also go broke. I know the exact calories because they’re listed on the menu. 200 for the soup, and 400 for the creamed spinach, which, by the way, was also great. But the steak was just the best of the best. I want it again soon. The conversation was lots of fun. After that, I went to the mail place and shipped a little package, then came home. I caught up with stuff. At around three it began raining and that continued till about nine at night. Nothing terrible, but I liked the sound of it, and it was probably one of the reasons I dozed for most of the evening. I got a couple of donuts for snacks to take pills two and three by. They were good. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I have to get Cheryl Baxter the track for the song she’ll be choreographing on Saturday, I’ll eat something fun, perhaps some pasta I make here, perhaps not, then I’ll relax until we have our rehearsal at a rehearsal studio, since the play at the Group Rep plays an invited dress. After that, I’ll come home.

Tomorrow and Thursday are more of the same, Friday we’re off, Saturday we work in the morning and then later I’ll be seeing a play. We may rehearse on Sunday morning, too, if I can have my two actors. We shall see. And then it’s Thanksgiving week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, relax, have a rehearsal, then come home. Today’s topic of discussion: For our carnivores, what are the best steaks you’ve ever had? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had the best filet mignon ever.
