THE SIXTEEN-PAGE, FOUR-SONG COURTROOM SCENE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the new soundtrack to the new Frankenstein motion picture, which some folks seem to love, and others don’t – the score is by Alexandre Desplat. I may watch the film when we get a screener – I’m guessing the score, which is very atmospheric, works well in the film. We had us another rehearsal and it went well. We only reviewed the opening as a warm-up, then went back to the top of the long sixteen-page courtroom scene with four songs and began reviewing that. I still have three songs to stage, and we did those as we came to them and they’re fun, I think. Also, I think we finally have our needed boy for the ensemble – nice kid, good energy, good smile, Hungarian but no accent. He’ll begin with us tonight and we’ll put him in all the numbers we’ve done so far. We finished the courtroom, did the finale, and that was that. I stopped at the donut jernt on the way home to get a chocolate chip muffin – of course, they didn’t have any or any apple fritters or any cinnamon rolls – I got a chocolate buttermilk bar and came home. I still had one pill to take, so I had a bagel with lox and cream cheese and then the chocolate buttermilk bar, both good, and took pill three. Prior to all that, I got eight and a half hours of sleep, had a telephonic conversation with Richard Allen about the tracks that needed adjusting and he did those and sent them back. They work except one – it’s hard communicating over the phone and if he tries to play the track from the computer, I don’t hear it at all – it’s like cancelled or something, noise-wise, and I really don’t understand why that would happen or what the reason for it is. After that, I had extra crispy orange chicken from the good place and it was a very good batch – half order, as always. Really hit the spot. Then I did a quick errand, had more telephonic calls, had a fortune cookie and took pill two, shaved, and then moseyed on over to the theater, got everything set up and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll try to be up by ten-thirty and then talk through the track that didn’t work, get that done and back to me so we have it for tonight’s rehearsal, I’ll eat something fun – will try for something I haven’t had in a while – frankly, I’m in the mood for an In ‘N’ Out burger – haven’t had one in over six months, I think – maybe I’ll get that after rehearsal, I’ll check with the mail place and see what’s what, then the first two hours of rehearsal are all reviewing and drilling, and the final hour are doing three little two person scenes. Then I’ll either stop and get the burger or come home.

Tomorrow is a day off and I just need to rest and relax and watch and listen. Saturday, we have a ten to one rehearsal, then the rest of the day and all-day Sunday are ME days. Monday, I’m begin taken for a month-early birthday lunch to a fancy shmancy place – very much looking forward to that, and then that night we have our two missing actors in for a rehearsal – all four leads, and I’m hoping I can get most of their stuff blocked in those three hours. That would be a very good thing. Then we have our usual Tuesday through Thursday rehearsals in an off-site rehearsal studio, then I attend an opening night on Friday, we have our Saturday morning rehearsal, and then we’re off until after Thanksgiving. Whew!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by ten-thirty, have a phone meeting with Richard Allen, eat something fun, relax, check with the mail place, then we have rehearsal and after that I’ll either get a burger or come home. Today’s topic of discussion: What new movies sound interesting to you? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the sixteen-page courtroom scene is finally done and that the ography for it is done, too.
