WHEN CROWDS ARE RIDICULOUS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, just finishing up listening to Alexandre Desplat’s score for Frankenstein – it’s got some very nice themes, and I’ve enjoyed it. I don’t know that I want to see the movie, but if a screener comes along, perhaps I will. The first two hours of last night’s rehearsals were devoted to cleaning up stuff – I also added a few things, as is my wont. In our final thirty minutes I staged the first half of the last big numbers. I’m hoping Cheryl Baxter will come in and help do the rest. I originally was going to have it be a tap-dancing number, but we don’t really have the tappers to do it and no real time to teach them anything. What we’ve done thus far is cute and fun. At nine, I let everyone go but our two leads and we did their two duets and one solo number. No real staging – I purposely designed these to be simple so that they would stand in nice contrast to all the busy and kinetic staging of the other numbers. I’m really enjoying the rehearsals, with the only downside being no assistant director and me having to do stuff that isn’t part of my job description, especially operating the tracks. Anyway, we all had fun. After the rehearsals, I decided to have an I ‘N’ Out burger, so I drove over there. The drive-through line was a block and a half long. As I drove by the restaurant, I could see that every table was taken, and the order line was almost out the door. This at 10:10 on a Thursday evening. I just don’t get it. Who ARE these people? I drove right home. Instead, I ordered dos filet ‘o’ fish from McDonald’s. Those arrived very quickly and thankfully they were very good and had the extra tartar sauce I always pay for. I took pill three after that. I had a telephonic call. Prior to all that, I got nine hours of good sleep, got up, talked through the one still problematic track with Richard Allen and we figured it out and later he sent me version four of that track – faster tempo and the correct layout. I did some prep work, relaxed a bit, had a Subway Eyetalian footlong with a $5.00 off coupon, that was good. Then I showered, watched some irritating YouTube videos, then it was time to mosey on over to the theater. I got everything set up (also not my job), then the cast arrived and we began. The rest you know.

Today, I’m having me a ME day and I don’t care who knows it. I do have a few things to take care of, but mostly I want to just take it easy. I’ll eat something fun at some point, I’ll partake of the pills, I’ll do a tiny bit of prep work for tomorrow’s rehearsal and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, we have a ten to one rehearsal, then the rest of the day is mine all mine – thinking about another sit-down meal after rehearsal somewhere. Then I’ll come home and just do whatever needs doing, try to list two or three new items, but mostly I’ll relax.

Sunday, we have a six to nine rehearsal for our missing actors and I’m hoping I can get all the major scenes blocked. Their usually either two or three person scenes and only occasionally four persons. I don’t envision to much intricate blocking. Monday, I’m being taken for an early birthday lunch at a fancy shmancy establishment – very much looking forward to that – and then Tuesday we’re in a rehearsal room and we’re also Wednesday and Thursday, back to the theater on Saturday and Sunday morning. Then we’re off for the entire Thanksgiving week and back on December 2, when our schedule will slightly change.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, have me a ME day, take it easy, eat, pop pills, prep and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, an opera by Messager. Blu-ray, maybe Garbo Talks. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, still trying to fathom the crowded goings on at In ‘N’ Out.
