Well, dear readers, it is already midnight at the oasis and I need to put my Kimmel to bed, if you get my drift. Therefore, I shall write these here notes in a hurry and do so. So. So what? What so? We had an interesting rehearsal last evening. We ran act one and timed it, and with all of the line fumfers, a couple of small stops, and calling for lines, act one ran fifty-five minutes. I suspect we’ll whittle that down to fifty and maybe even less once the pacing is right and they know their lines well. But everyone was kind of doing a different play, so because we were missing an actress who’s got a lot to do in act two, I went back and worked all the scenes with the four leads. I stopped them often, so that the tone was consistent, the energy was consistent, and that we never strayed into territory that simply doesn’t work for this play. They all made notes, I adjusted some blocking and by the end of it I think they all saw why I was pushing it where I was pushing it. Now, if they just remember it, take it to heart, and play it the way we worked on it. At this point, we just need it to stick so we don’t have to keep pouncing on the same issues. On the other hand, all the musical numbers in act one played really well. During the last twenty minutes we drilled the duet and that staging. Then I came right home, ordered a snack, that arrived and I ate said snack. Prior to all that, I got between six and seven hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had orange chicken for food, got the replacement package that was stolen, took a hot shower, did stuff that needed doing, and then went to the mail place and picked up a residual (might pay for a Big Mac – maybe), and then we had our rehearsal and you know all about that and here we are.
Today, I have to go see the eye doctor, so must do the drive I hate doing. Appointment is one-fifteen, so that means leaving here at 11:50, just to be on the safe side. And speaking of being on the safe side, is there something going on with the planet that is causing drivers to drive especially dopey? Going to the theater last night was like Dodge ‘em Cars. Be careful out there. Anyway, I’ll come right back home after the appointment, I’ll eat, and then I just really need to rest and watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, we rehearse from 10 to 1, then the rest of the day is mine all mine, and so is Sunday and Monday. We’re back Tuesday for a run-through and attending, rough as it may be, will be our author and costume designer – I’ve talked to both about it, so they’re prepared. Wednesday night we won’t have a full cast, so we’ll just drill stuff over and over again because after that, we’re off until January 2. Of course, we’ll have our Annual Kimmel Christmas Eve Do, the Darling Daughter will visit on Christmas, I’ll do some more advance writing on what may well be next year’s book, but mostly I have to catch up on sleep, be fully functional for the busy start of the New Year.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, go see the eye doctor, come right back to the Valley, eat something amusing, rest, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray, streaming player? I’ll start – I have no idea. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, now that it’s post-midnight at the oasis and time to put my Kimmel to bed.
