Well, dear readers, what makes hash out of hash. That is today’s burning question. Have you ever burned a question? I have and then the question, in retaliation, burned me. Go know. Yesterday morning, after four hours of sleep and after she of the Evil Eye arrived, I moseyed on over to Paty’s to breakfast with Robert Yacko. I was determined to have something different, like maybe chorizo huevos or huevos ranchero – something. Then I noticed corned beef hash. I could not recall ever ordering corned beef hash anywhere ever, although I did use to enjoy Hormel canned roast beef hash quite a bit. So, I ordered it – our waiter told me it was very popular with the populace. It came with hash browns and two over medium eggs. All I said to the waiter is that the whites could not run but the yellows could. A while later, our food arrived. Forget the eggs – what arrived were two over HARD eggs that were beyond gross, but not as beyond gross as the corned beef hash, which turned out to be huge chunks of corned beef. That’s it. No little potatoes, no onions, no seasoning, just huge chunks of corned beef. I ended up mixing in the hash browns but could only stomach a few bites. It was, in fact, just about the worst breakfast I’ve ever had – a shame, as Paty’s is very good usually. After breakfast, we walked to the new Gelson’s next door and Robert bought a water. I almost got some fresh creamy tomato soup, because I hadn’t eaten hardly anything, but I couldn’t come back home for forty-five minutes, so I didn’t. When I did come home, I caught up on e-mails, then made hot dogs that I had here on buns that I had here with mustard and onions that I had here as well as red cabbage and cheese that I had here. I ate a couple of those and they were very good. I did a few things on the computer, had a telephonic conversation in the comfy armchair in the living room, and then instantly dozed off for two hours. Then I did more on the computer, including sending out two blurb asks, neither of whom has responded, so I’ll move on to the next. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish and dozed off before I could find anything to watch – disturbing dream, during which I threw the Firestick remote across the room, which woke me up – in the dream, I was throwing a cell phone. Weird. Oh, and also earlier I had a lovely conversation with the publisher and as soon as I have everything, that stuff will all go to them. Anyway, it was then too late to watch anything, so I just watched some irritating YouTube videos that were irritating. That was pretty much it, save for making a small Ralph’s order that should arrive shortly. As always, things that say “many in stock” are out of stock, in fact, half my order was out of stock and even though I’d already said no substitutes for ANYTHING, he kept asking me if I wanted substitutes and I kept saying no. And yet, I can see I’m getting two substitutes I don’t want. It’s through DoorDash so I’ll get refunded for the two substitutes. I just don’t get saying “many in stock” and then being out of stock, although maybe he just couldn’t find stuff. One thing I did buy was two cans of Hormel roast beef hash – yeah, baby, that’s what I’M talkin’ about. And here we are – Ralph’s delivery should be here any minute, but the things I wanted as a snack are not there. Maybe I’ll be a bad boy and make half a can of hash.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, the book files will go to the designers, I’ll continue the hunt for new blurbers, but basically I think I’ll just relax and smell the coffee, no, no coffee, the roses, no, no roses, the cottage cheese, no, they were out of stock, the honeydew chunks, no, they were out of stock, well, I’ll smell some damn thing, and then I’ll definitely watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same, then Friday we begin our final performances of The Altruist. There’s a cast partay after the Sunday matinee.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, send book files to the designer, hunt for blurbers, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping to never have corned beef hash from Paty’s again.
