Well, dear readers, we need to talk. Actually, we don’t really need to talk, but that hoary line has been used I don’t know how many times in Shooter and every other series like it. We need to talk. There ARE other ways of saying that, dear screenwriters – try one of them. Another hoary word constantly used after hearing some kind of really surprising news is – WHAT? Also tiresome after having seen two previous seasons and eight out of thirteen episodes of the final season is some bad guy doing some bad thing, then running and being chased by the good guy, bolting out a door as the good guy bolts after him, only to hear the screech of tires as the bad guy gets away. Since he’s been running all over the place in an effort to get away from the good guy, he just “happens” to have his car parked close enough to a door in a hospital that he could go out the door, jump in his waiting car after unlocking the door and starting it and be sufficiently far away with tires screeching. Every single time? I will say that in Shooter they do kill important characters off after two or three episodes, even killing one important character off after one scene. But stretching out season three, which began really well despite the horrible direction that’s insisted on by the producers, clearly – all shakycam lurking behind foreground objects and doors – maybe the idea is to keep the audience on edge by making it seem like someone is always lurking and watching, but no one is lurking and watching other than the camera for no reason at all. The writing is pretty standard for these kinds of shows – lots of “copy that” and “stand down” and “There’s a storm coming” and “We’ve got company” and “Don’t die on me” and “You’re insane.” I think it would be fun to write a movie using ONLY lines like that. Or not. Anyway, I’m slogging through it come rain or come shine. Otherwise, I got nine and a half hours of good sleep, got up, answered a lot of e-mails, had another e-mail that was great to get, about righting a wrong made over twenty years ago and I really hope it comes to fruition so send excellent vibes and xylophones for righting a wrong made over twenty years ago. I can say no more, oh, no, I can say no more at this time, other than just in case it happens I’ve already put the wheels in motion to right the wrong. For food, I ordered a “the works” small pizza from California Pizza Kitchen – pepperoni, spicy sausage, green peppers, red onions, mushrooms, and black olives. It wasn’t bad and 1200 calories for the whole thing, so that was fine. I do wish they still had my favorite – the roasted garlic chicken pizza – I keep hoping they’ll bring it back someday.
Other than occasionally seeing how my voice was doing, I didn’t talk at all yesterday, and it did feel a bit stronger. I really need it back to normal by Monday or I will get the pill pack that Robert Yacko used. I sent the flap copy and as soon as they’re done and approved, that’s everything on Doug Haverty’s end and he’ll get me all his files. That’s about it – a restful day, and I finally got more Claritin-D and took one of those.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll start thinking about a show order, think I’ll still stay put, finish Shooter and then no more series for a while – I have High Society sitting here so I’ll watch that at some point – I’ll eat something fun, but mostly I’ll keep resting my voice, and then watch, listen, and relax.
The weekend is unknown to me, but if I’m really feeling back to normal by Sunday, I may take a drive. Then next week is busy, proofing the galley when it arrives, doing any fixes necessary, and then sending all the files to the publisher. It’s also begins our rehearsals on Thursday, Saturday, and stumble-through on Tuesday and show on Wednesday.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, think about a show order, stay put, finish Shooter, eat, rest my voice, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, nothing. Blu-ray, High Society. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, but not before saying, “We need to talk.”
