WHEN THRILLERS HAD THRILLS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I shall keep these here notes on the short side because a mere hour ago the galley arrived and I began proofing immediately, which I’ll continue as soon as I’m finished writing these here notes. I got about nine hours of consecutive sleep, so that was good. I felt a bit better but at this point I really do not understand why it’s taking so damn long to be 100-percent. Voice is still not anywhere near where it should be, which is irritating the HELL out of me. Who needs HELL in them? Not I. I’d pre-ordered food and it arrived right on time – from Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. I didn’t order the waffle because having done delivery before from there it just doesn’t travel well. I got two breasts and two legs. One set for lunch, one set for dinner. It was very good, but I couldn’t even finish half of the second breast when I got around to eating it. I finished watching the PBS American Masters program, Something to Dance About, about Jerome Robbins. I’ve seen it already, but it’s really done so well and has so many amazing clips that I just watched the whole damn thing. I had no telephonic calls, didn’t really talk at all other than testing out what is still way to hoarse and weak for the likes of me. After I had the later meal, I finally watched a movie entitled, The Stranger in My Home. Based on a supposed international best-seller, a thriller, naturally. The book has the usual number of five-star reviews and a lot of one-star reviews. If the movie is anything to go by, it’s probably not a very good book. For a new movie, there is not a single review by a legit critic. That’s probably a good thing. The movie is terrible – horrid direction, annoying performances, especially the lead woman, “twists” that are preposterous, laughable dialogue and a very long slog despite being under ninety minutes. Highly not recommended by the likes of me. I don’t think people know how to write thrillers anymore – they’re all the same now and the worst of them seem to be best sellers somewhere. I used to love thrillers that had real thrills and were real page-turners. Same with movies. That was really about it for the day and evening. I keep thinking the soreness in my throat on the right side has gotten better, but it’s still there if I swallow a certain way. I think I’ll do a little steam at some point today.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, if possible, to continue proofing until I finish. That will probably take all day. I’ll eat something at some point, then after I’m done proofing, I’ll definitely do a show order. Don’t know if I’ll have time to watch, listen, and relax, but I’ll continue to hope I feel much better and that my voice comes back sooner than later. I’m going to try no Ny-Quil – scary – but I just want to try not doing it for one night.

Tomorrow, I’ll start writing the commentary and I’m hoping to get whatever fixes there are back to the designer so they can get them done and get me a final galley – then I can send everything in to the publisher. I will pray hard for a needed modern major miracle, and then we start Kritzerland rehearsals on Thursday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, proof, eat, proof until I’m done, do a show order, pray hard for a modern major miracle, and pray I’m better and have my voice back sooner than later. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite chicken dishes? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that someday thrillers that have real thrills come back in style.
