Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes on the new computer known as Mac Mini and Apple Display monitor of 27-inches. Whilst doing it, I am listening to music, namely Pete Jolly’s Little Bird album, which was one of my favorite early teen records, mainly because it had the theme from To Kill a Mockingbird – that was the reason I got it, but I fell in love with every selection and then bought every Pete Jolly album that came after. I’m also cooling down the house, which was eighty-two degrees. But let’s talk about the new computer, shall we? Using the Thunderbolt 4 cord getting all the old computer onto the new computer took two hours, instead of the twelve or more it would have taken doing it any other way. The fellow in the back house helped get everything going with the data transfer. We kept the old computer hooked up as I had to get the notes posted. But right after midnight, the migration was complete. We’d already paired the new keyboard and trackpad. As soon as it was finished, it restarted itself and I began checking everything. All the stuff I was worried about, like Mail and Microsoft Office and Music actually worked perfectly. The only one I had to do something with was Word – and that took all of three seconds – I opened a document, it asked me if I wanted Microsoft Office on this new device, I clicked yes, entered my password by using touch ID, and that was that. The Music folder came over perfectly with all tracks and playlists there and ready to play. And Mail also came over perfectly – never had to type a password. I didn’t care for the default desktop image, so I found one I liked and changed it. Anything I had a question about I found easily on Google. There are a couple of quirky things I have to get used to, but other than that this thing is absolutely amazing. Remember, my computer was over a decade old and oh, I forgot to mention that it crashed three times in a row – I think we got this in the nick of time. On the old computer, everything took forever, especially opening Word documents and trying to use Chrome, which I don’t use much, and the hiccups on websites, getting DoorDash to load properly – all that stuff is instant. The ONLY thing that’s taking a long time is syncing to the Cloud – according to Google that could take several days. Once that’s done, I’ll be able to do backups again. I was up until two-thirty playing around with everything, including listening to the array of internal speakers. My speakers are better, and I decided to hook them up, which I did in the morning, but I thought the internal speakers weren’t that much different, and so I put the external speakers in another room and when I get a good turntable, I’ll use them with that. The CD drive works great and so I’ll be able to upload CDs again easily. When I think of the stupid way I had to do those big box sets, this will be a joy again. Losing the speakers makes everything look really neat on the computer table. The ONLY thing that’s awful still are these damn barstools, which kill my back and whose screws have to be tightened three times a week. To that end, I have new barstools coming on Saturday and someone coming on Sunday to assemble them. They look much nicer and certainly look much sturdier. And so, I am a happy computer lad. Here is an actual photograph of the new keyboard, display, the Mac Mini is directly under it on the right and next to that is the CD drive. Next to the big boy keyboard is the new trackpad.
Otherwise, I got about six hours of sleep, got up, the back house fellow came over and we checked out just a couple of things, then I did some stuff on the new computer, then went back to bed and slept until three. Guess I needed it. The good news is I awoke to the Amazon issue finally fixed and a rave review for the new book on Barnes and Noble – this woman and her daughter have been so loyal as readers, and they wrote me the loveliest e-mail about their fondness for my writing. I always look forward to their reviews. I ordered some pasta with Eyetalian sausage in pink sauce from Maria’s Kitchen and the arrived quickly and I ate it all up. I’d had my English muffin in the morning and pill one and I took pill two after I finished the pasta. Then I played on the computer some more, marveled again at the speed of it all, and then around seven I sat on my couch like so much fish. I watched an episode of Arrest and Trial with guest star Dorothy Malone – couldn’t quite pinpoint the locations. Then I dozed off for the next three hours. Go know. I made an egg in a tortilla and at that and took pill three.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I may go to the mail place to see what’s what, I’ll need to put gas in the motor car for the first time in two months, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
The weekend will be ME days, then on Monday I’ll place my book order, so we should have books in about three weeks after that and we’ll get them shipped right out. Lots of other stuff happening next week, too, including having to make a decision about doing a September Kritzerland anniversary show.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, maybe go to the mail place, put gas in the motor car, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, not sure – have several to listen to. Blu-ray, have several to watch. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, so happy with the mighty Mac Mini and the new Apple Display.
