August 9, 2025:

THE HAPPY HARDCOVER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much Friday fish as I write the Saturday notes. Currently, I am trying to empty the trash on the computer – I found a folder called Old Apps – who needs old apps – I deposited it in the trash and apparently there are 743 items in there, which is rather insane. I don’t even know why I have such a folder, and I certainly don’t need or want it. But it’s not emptying – it just says 743 items deleted but won’t finish it. If it’s not finished by the time I finish these here notes, I guess I’ll stop it and worry about it later. Meanwhile, it was a nothing Friday filled with mostly nothingness. The most interesting and best thing that happened yesterday was the hardcover test book arriving before the softcover – that’s never happened before. And I must say the hardcover looks great. So, that was nice. I got almost eight hours of sleep, had my muffin and pill and then did some stuff on the computer. After that, I moseyed on over to the mail place to pick up the package that contained the hardcover, then came right home. I had a couple of telephonic conversations whilst sitting in the comfy armchair in the living room. After the last of them, I just sat there like so much fish and fell asleep for two count them two hours. Then I plopped down on the bed and fell asleep for another hour. This is not normal. After that, I made a batch of Wacky Noodles, less than usual, and then I ate them up – it was a pretty good batch as batches go. The emptying the trash nonsense is still going on and it now says 789 items deleted. I’m about to stop this nonsense and just stick it somewhere on a hard drive because this is just silly at this point. Who knows how many there are to go? Not I. Anyway, after food and pill, I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched some TV show I’d never heard of called Shannon, starring George Nader. A thirty-minute affair. I had hopes that it was filmed on location in LA since the main titles have him driving on the Hollywood freeway, but no such luck at least in that episode. Despite the main titles shot, the show is supposed to take place in Denver, Denver being the backlot of Columbia Studios. A terrible show, mundanely directed by Fred Jackman, a cameraman who apparently gave up directing pretty quickly – Fred was the cameraman on The Partridge Family and a very nice chap. The pretty young teen in the episode, who reminded me of our very own Susan Gordon, was Candy Moore, who was a regular on The Lucy Show and did a lot of TV back then. According to the imdb, she appears as Linda in Raging Bull. I have no idea what role that is. She’s still with us and just a few months older than me. After that, I watched some true crime YouTube videos and that was pretty much it.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, then I’m lunching with David and Barbara Wechter, after which I’ll come right home. My new barstools are supposed to arrive, but the website shows no evidence that they were actually shipped. If they’re not here when I get home, I’ll call, and they’ll have to figure out when they ARE arriving and reschedule the assembly people. And this thing is STILL emptying the trash. This is nuts and I’m about done watching the attempt. When I’m done writing and posting these here notes I’ll stop it, see how much it’s actually emptied, then remove the folder from the trash and stick it on a hard drive. Then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, IF the stools have arrived, will be the assembling of the stools and then I’ll finally have something to sit on that’s hopefully a lot comfier than what I’ve been sitting on for the past five years. Monday, I’ll place the book order, and the rest of the week is busy, with another work session and various and sundried other tasks.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, lunch with David and Barbara Wechter, hope the barstools arrive, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: When you were a kid, what chores were you expected to do and which did you not mind and which did you hate? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have received the hardcover in such a timely fashion.
