NOTES ON THE FAST TRACK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have some breaking bombshell news for you and it’s a doozy – today’s notes will be shorter than yesterday’s notes, which may have been the longest notes ever, the War and Peace of notes. I don’t know that for certain, of course, but they sure seemed like the longest. So, today’s notes will be on the fast track, they’ll plow the speed, they’ll neither dilly-dally nor shilly-shally. So, I think it is safe to say that yesterday was a Monday. Not a very eventful Monday, but a Monday nonetheless. I only got about six and a half hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and then tried to schedule a call with Apple with the first available time being 2:45, which I found weird. But it kept giving me an error message and wouldn’t schedule it. So, I chose “Chat” and got someone who was able to schedule the call for me, and not at 2:45, but in ten minutes. The call came and I told the very helpful man what was going on and that we had to solve it as I hadn’t been able to do the hourly and daily back-ups since getting everything set up. We screen-shared, checked a bunch of things, then he had me go to some setting where we’d checked optimize the Cloud, which we didn’t need to have checked because I have so much storage in the Cloud AND the hard drive being used for back ups AND a huge amount of storage on the Mac Mini. We turned that off. We went into the Cloud, and he could see that even though we had the little Cloud icon next to every single folder, the contents were, in fact, all there. Baffling. Then he had me go to the Time Machine to see if it was still telling me it couldn’t sync and voila – it had just done a backup and has happily been doing them every day. Now that that setting is off, I’m going into every folder and things within that were saying waiting to sync are suddenly okay. I think when I’m through doing that then maybe all those Cloud icons will disappear. We shall see, but as long as the backups are happening, I’m fine with it either way. So, that was a good thing. There was no need to do banking, which wasn’t so good, and then I placed the book order, so that was good. The good was certainly outweighing the bad and I was certainly outweighing both the good and the bad, but that’s another story. I had my morning pill with two biscotti, then for my main food I had a Chinese chicken salad from Stanley’s – that arrived and was excellent and I took pill two. Then I found out that friend David Wechter, with whom I lunched on Saturday, had Covid. IF that’s what I had, the hope is that I’m still immune from it. But we never touched so maybe it’ll be okay, because I sure don’t need THAT again.

I worked on my friend’s screwy manuscript as much as I could – I’m about 140 pages in, in the reformatting phase. I had to stop doing corrections because it really slows everything down. I dozed off for a bit, then later in the evening I had pill three with some white rice and butter. That was surprisingly tasty. Then I watched the second episode of the documentary The Yogurt Shop Murders. It’s too artsy for me and at four hours, too long, especially when you know going in that the crime still isn’t solved. I don’t know if I need the other two episodes and HBO is doling them out one a week, which I don’t really understand. That was about it and here we are.

Today, I’ll try to be up by nine in case I need to do some banking, which I’m hoping I will. I’ll continue fixing up my friend’s manuscript – her story is interesting and there is quite a bit of randy behavior and more than a little dish. I’m featured briefly in it when she writes about The First Nudie Musical. No dish about ME, I’m happy to say. I think the barstools are arriving between 10:45 and 2:45 but I’m not going to reschedule the assembly people until they’re in hand. IF that’s today, I’ll try and get them here tomorrow or Thursday. Otherwise, I’ll eat something amusing, I may have to go get more Claritin D, as I took the last one a few hours ago, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, assembly people might come, otherwise I really would like to finish the manuscript reformatting, after which I’ll go back and do some fixing of typos and things that are easy. Having it properly formatted in a font I’m used to make seeing typos much easier. Not sure what else is happening this week or the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by nine, hopefully do some banking, continue fixing a manuscript, hopefully get the barstools, eat, perhaps get some Claritin-D or maybe I’ll finally just try the Flonase thing, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite kinds of salads? Cobb? Chef’s? Chinese chicken? Spinach? Fruity? Remember a time when spinach salads were all the rage – every restaurant had them, you could not escape them. Well, what ever happened to them? I don’t know a single restaurant in LA that has it, although perhaps I’ll check. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as we stay on the ever-lovin’ fast track.
