GETTING MY DRIFT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, whilst I wait for the ubiquitous clam chowder, I may as well start writing these here notes, although there is not a lot to write about, if you get my drift, and you, being dear readers, always get my drift. My drift drifts everywhere drifts and drift and that always gives me a lift. Currently playing as we near the end of the Fs, Fritz Reiner’s Columbia Records albums – all mono all the time. Wonderful performances in surprisingly robust sound. Just finished a lot of Bach – well, the Orchestral Suite 2 and the Little Fugue in G-minor. And now playing is the kind of jazzy and weird Hungarian Sketches by one Bela Bartok. Then more Bach – the Brandenberg Concertos. Fun listening. I did try to watch something but kept dozing off all evening. I did watch the start of several movies, though – including one amateur piece of merde called Don’t Look in the Basement aka The Forgotten and about six other titles. And yet, there are a few “critics” of today who find it to be a hidden gem. Let it stay hidden. Strictly from hunger. What else? I watched about ten minutes of some movie called Scorchy, starring Connie Stevens and Cesar Danova from 1976. Never heard of it. And The Destructors, whose release title when it came out was The Marseilles Contract. Good cast, but if the first fifteen minutes are anything to go by, completely wasted in a rather mundane affair. Can’t remember what the others were. Of course, I also watched some irritating YouTube videos. Soup is here, so excuse me for a moment. Back. Soup was good, but not full up to the top. Oh well. Where was I? Here. That’s where I was. Anyway, I got about four hours of sleep, went to Hugo’s and had an omelet and a tiny Caesar for the side dish. Both were fine, but I just don’t like eating breakfast in the morning. I like it other times, but when I eat in the morning, I just feel logy and non-energized. I picked up a tiny package at the mail place, then I did a quick Gelson’s run – just a red onion and a couple of other necessaries. I came home at eleven-thirty and she of the Evil Eye was gone.

I caught up on e-mails, caught up on other things, caught up on up, did some work on the computer, had a baked potato at around two, all pills were taken, and then the watching and dozing routine began. I also got a lovely order for all four Kritzer books, which I thankfully had here, so I’ll ship those out myself today. I must say, I do love Bach – although listening to it always makes me want to get up and do a minuet and wear a powdered wig. Don’t worry, I shan’t be doing that. That was really about it. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll see if anything is at the mail place, I’ll eat half the tuna pasta salad throughout the day whilst taking all necessary pills, if I get all the book components from Doug I’ll send that along to the interior designers, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I have a Zoom at eleven with the set designer – he has some ideas to show me – and then I’ll just continue catching up, hope I get the rest of the act one songs so we can move on to act two, hope to hear about the missing hard drive, I’ll hear a mix of one of the seven or eight vocals we were able to save and that will be interesting, Friday I have a Zoom with the neurologist, and I have a lunch thing on one of the two weekend days.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, check with the mail place, eat half the tuna pasta salad throughout the day, send the book to the designers if I have all its components, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Bach pieces? And what are some of your favorite Bach recordings? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping everyone got my drifting drifty drift.
