A SLEEPER KNEE DEEP IN SLEEP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have just received the fixed galley, so I want to go make sure everything got fixed because if everything got fixed then we’re done with the fixes and this can now be put in a folder for the publisher, but not until I get a blurb or two, do flap copy, have Doug Haverty do those things, and THEN everything will go to the publisher and away we go. Therefore, I shall keep today’s notes brief and that will not be hard since I only got about four or five hours of sleep and basically the day and evening were comprised of me sleeping. But I did do a few things. For example, I did get up. I did answer e-mails and I did get dressed. I decided to do the smog certificate thing, which is just up the street. I drove around so I’d be on the right side of the street when I got there. Only that was not possible because they had that street all blocked off and were paving it for reasons unknown, since there were no issues there at all. I had to drive straight, pull a U-turn, and go back the same way I’d come. When I got back home, I called the smog place, and they told me to come up the street rather than go around and that I could turn left and enter. Well, that’s peachy except it’s a very dangerous place to turn left because it’s just south of a freeway off-ramp where no one actually stops for the red light – they just turn and they’re not going slow either. Anyway, I told him I’d try after I ate. I ordered carbonara in a light cream sauce from Marmalade – it arrived quickly, was huge, and if that was light cream, I’d hate to see what heavy cream is like there. This was the Haystack Calhoun of cream, perhaps the heaviest cream of all time. And carbonara, I hate to tell these people, is not penne pasta – it’s spaghetti. Apparently, according to Google AI, tube pasta is popular in Rome, but I’m not in Rome and therefore will NOT do as the Romans do, even Romans in their underpants – I will do as they do here – spaghetti. That’s what works best. Anyway, I ate as much as I could and left about a third, but it was too heavy, too much garlic, big chunks of chicken, which isn’t carbonara, and the usual bacon (pancetta) and peas. Let me tell you how heavy this was – I’m STILL full and I STILL feel gross and I need the next size up in Roman underpants, and my toga is now a little too tight, more like a mini-skirt that shrunk.

After that, I went to the smog place and it was indeed very scary trying to make that left turn, but I finally did, the smog thing only took fifteen minutes, I got the paperwork and came home. I went online to pay the registration, but the smog certificate hadn’t come through – it’s supposed to be immediate, as soon as they scan the paper that I bring. I called over there and they said to wait till this morning, so I guess I’ll try and hopefully it will work. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish and was out like a light instantly and woke up at seven. I did a few things, then decided to watch something. I began searching Amazon Prime but before I got very far, I was out like a light again and that was the routine for the entire night until it was time to write these here notes. I’d wake up, start searching, and doze off again. I was a sleeper knee deep in sleep.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll hopefully approve the fixed galley, and then I’ll do the flap copy stuff, hopefully get the blurb and still hope for one more – very unusual to not have heard back from the two others I wrote, so maybe it went to spam. Once I have the flap copy, I’ll send to Doug so he can get that done. Also, hoping the direct deposit pension arrives as well as the one important envelope. If so, I’ll do some banking. I’ll eat something, do whatever needs doing, and then attempt to watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow and the weekend are still unknown to me, and then next week is getting the book stuff to the publisher, doing pre-orders for it, and hopefully the new CD release at the same time.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully approve the fixed galley, do flap copy, hopefully get a blurb, hope the direct deposit pension arrives, bank, eat, do whatever needs doing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, our next release. Streaming, Ella McKay. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall once again be a sleeper knee deep in sleep.
