Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sans point, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they've found the point but they ain't talkin'.

And the word of the day is: CANOROUS!

Will we never get to page two?
-
Finding the Bay Cities Claus Ogerman album has inspired me to listen to some of our CDs. The Ogerman, which I hadn't heard in ages, is simply amazing. I have but a few copies left and I cannot recommend it enough.
Then I listened to the first Bay Cities CD, all Robert Ward music. Mr. Ward was a huge influence (he's mentioned in Kritzer Time) on me, musically, and the selections on this CD are brilliant (including his piano concerto, which is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard). Then I decided to listen to a multiple composer album featuring Norman Dello Joio (one of my favorite American composers), Randall Thompson (his second symphony, which is incredibly beautiful), and Jerome Moross. I remember the first time I heard the LP that had the Thompson and just being bowled over by it. I was determined to do it, and we got the rights - it was a very old mono recording, and while the tapes were in good shape, the sound quality was really lacking. But Tom Null and I worked for about three days on it, and I must say the result is better than I remember - it's really good. There are two recordings in stereo, Leonard Bernstein's (which I don't like), and a more modern recording done for Koch, which I loathe. I may just have to play the entire Bay Cities output - it's ninety-three discs, but it will be like a trip down memory lane.
-
Norman Dello Joio has written some pretty incredible choral pieces and piano music, too.

TOD: My favorite singer songwriters of all----
Randy Newman, especially SAIL AWAY, the first album I bought, and GOOD OLD BOYS
Harry Nilsson, especially HARRY, the first album I bought, and NILSSON SCHMILSSON.
Van Dyke Parks, especially SONG CYCLE
That's my triumvirant, or trifecta, or whatever. I now know Parks and Newman, but always regret that I never met Nilsson, my first adolescent crush!

Happy Birthday to Jeanne!!!

Well, I am almost caught up. One more day to go.
I have had a curve ball thrown to me. A colleague and I are scheduled to go to Connecticut in June to do a presentation on our indexing taxonomy. Or so we thought. After a conference call yesterday we learned we have to throw out about half (or more of the presentation) and make it more funder focused. I'm annoyed at the person here who arranged the thing in the first place because he didn't tell us that should be the focus of the presentation. We knew about this for a couple of months and we thought all work was done. Now we have about a week and a half to reconfigure this puppy.
Sometimes I don't like my job.

Later, Gaters.

George, I think TLT's WHOREHOUSE (which opens in two weeks) has only four Aggies, too. Amazing that any college can win the "Big Game" with a football team of four players.
And why are two local theaters (within 30 miles of each other) both suddenly dragging out WHOREHOUSE when there so many other musicals that never get done locally?
-
Hi, Ben!
-
I think the #1 Song Birthday CD is a wonderful idea. How depressing that I was listening to some people's natal songs while in high school and college.

I'm annoyed at the person here who arranged the thing
That person should be strung up by their thumbs, like a gazelle in deer season.

No problems TCB - you'll get your copy. Do I have your address?

I am so glad that we have a three-day weekend coming up. I was going to turn mine into a four-day event, but decided to save my leave time for June.
I will be going to Lost Wages Las Vegas at the end of June. While there, I will be attending a perfromance of PHANTOM - THE LAS VEGAS SPECTACULAR, starring the WSMA! Yeah!

Good evening/good morning. Today was DP Colin's birthday. I should check on his song.

I sort of caught up on Ugly Betty. I went to this site

Speaking of frogs, we had dinner with my little French boy last night. He's leaving today to go back to Paris, but he has decided to stay at the Sorbonne a little longer (he's been teaching there for 12 years) so that means he'll be coming back in October. We will be in the new house by then (she said) so I'm planning to have a party and invite all our friends who know him and all the friends he's gotten to know from working here over the years. We will celebrate 20 years of friendship, as well!

I deleted the picture from Page 3 (The Winner), resized it and moved it here along with the text. It wouldn't let me just change the picture. Oh, well.
On Monday night we played a musical theatre related game. Karen was born in 1957 so her sister's boyfriend put together a game involving 50 years of Tony winners. He put together a list of each Tony winning Best Musical from 1957-2006. He had a 30 second song clip from each show. We had to identify the show, the song and the year it won the Tony for Best Musical. Each question, depending on how much you answered was worth 1-3 points. No bonus points if you knew the singer (darn). Well, guess who won! I was surprised at the number of "special interest" men who did NOT know their musical theatre. Many Gay cards were revoked that night. Obviously, I won (or I wouldn't be writing this long post). We began with My Fair Lady, I Could Have Danced All Night, 1957 and Ended with Jersey Boys, My Eyes Adored You, 2006.
Here is a picture of me receiving the prize, a pack of Florida playing cards.

Last night DR Jennifer posted:
RE: LOST finale
SPOILERS
*
*
*
I loved jack telling kate he loved her. But i am so curious whose funeral jack went to in his flashforward. Any ideas?
*** MORE LOST SPOILERS ***
I loved the show last night. My heart was pounding throughout! The only thing that I question is why did Charlie stay inside the chamber when he closed the hatch door? He could have easily slipped outside and closed it and saved himself and Desmond from the water. And he had important information to tell Desmond (and the other survivors.) The only thing that I can think of is that in that brief moment of time, he decided that he had to fulfill Desmond's premonition of his death so that Claire would be rescued off the island. But that seems like such a heavy decision to make in such a short amount of time.
I'm puzzled about Naomi and the rescue freighter. She had been claiming (and had good evidence) that they were looking only for Desmond under directions from Penny--they didn't even know the island was there. And yet Penny disowned any knowledge of such a rescue freighter and Ben warned that these "rescuers" have been specifically looking for the island and will kill everyone there, which seeing how things turn out in Jack's flashforward, is probably more or less factual. But I've thought that Desmond was the wild card in all this--how would anyone outside of Penny and the Others know that he was on the island? Why would Naomi say she was looking for him? Well, I guess it's all fodder for the coming seasons...
Speaking of Naomi, I did not like that she was taken out so soon. It seems that newcomers don't last long with the original survivor group. I was expecting Juliet to also buy it last night, but I'm glad she didn't--I've grown to like her for her sly sense of humor.
I was also worried that Hurley would be sacrificed. I so loved it when he drove the van to the rescue! Also loved seeing Ben get his. And seeing Rousseau finally meet Alex.
Anyway, to answer DR Jen's question: I think the funeral Jack went to was Michael's. It was in a black neighborhood and when the funeral director asked Jack if he was family or friend, Jack replied, "Neither." What has me wondering is who was Kate referring to when she said "He doesn't know I'm out" or some such thing. Sawyer? The husband she abandoned? Someone else? Hmmm...
Boy, last night's episode really has me thinking. It's going to be a looooong eight months!

IIRC, DR MBarnum arrives in NYC the morning of Thursday, July 28, and DH Richard and I arrive by train from Washington, DC, that afternoon.

DR Michael S - Vibes for your root canal :P

I think a couple of things in last night's LOST heralded a "game changing" scenario for the show: for those who didn't understand how it did.
1. Flashforwards now instead of only flashbacks.
2. The most combative "Others" have been taken out of commission one way or another. We ended the last season with the Others firmly in control. This season ends with exactly the opposite scenario. If that's not game-changing, I don't know what is.
-
DR Ben, I also very much enjoyed the alligator attack. What a hilarious way to start my morning.
-
For those who are interested, STUDIO 60 comes back tonight to burn off its remaining episodes that have not yet aired.
Because this is the big Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR week in Charlotte, NBC's Thursday programming here has been preempted by race specials on our local NBC affiliate. STIO 60 is going to be shown in the early morning hours. I haven't decided yet if I'm even going to record it. I had grown very disenchanted with the show in its last couple of episodes, so I'm not sure I want to invest any more time in a show that's clearly a goner.
-
IIRC, DR MBarnum arrives in NYC the morning of Thursday, July 28, and DH Richard and I arrive by train from Washington, DC, that afternoon.
DR Ginny, is that June or July?
-
I agree completely with bk's assessment of CAN-CAN, both as a film and the DVD transfer. And thank goodness he saw the same color fluctuations I saw. I was afraid I had a defective disc or my DVD player/TV was about ready to bite the dust.
Fox really should remaster this and allow those who are interested to get replacements. However, if they didn't do it for the Todd-AO OKLAHOMA!, they certainly won't do it for CAN-CAN.
-
DR Ginny, is that June or July?
Spoo! It's June 28.

I had read (in EW?) that the flashbacks were coming to an end, but I didn't know that they would be replaced by flashforwards. That is giong to take some fancy footwork, writing-wise.
The Others have lost their thirteen toughest members, plus their leader Ben is captured. But that doesn't mean that Jack and the survivors have that much of an upper hand. The Others as a group are still far more savvy and capable, posess knowledge of the island's mysteries and have reached a point where Ben's continued leadership is in question. However, I do predict that there will be an uneasy alliance between the two groups coming up next season, if only because there will be a greater common enemy.

Just so you know:
Neptune is in Retrograde.
It's time to tune in to your deepest core principles and create a larger vision! Neptune takes 14 years to transit through a sign, and has been transiting through Aquarius since 1998. On May 24, as Neptune begins its yearly retrograde -- a period that will last until October 31 -- it is time to revisit a dream, an ideal or a vision you've had. Think about how far you've come over the last nine years, as you have been prompted to make positive, healthy changes in your life. You've come a long way, baby!
And though I hesitate to mention it, Venus trines Uranus.
;D
-
"trines"?
-
"trines"?
They are 120 degrees in aspect from each other.
The planet of love forming a supportive trine aspect to zippy Uranus sparks up all of your relationships. You'll want none of the old tried-and-true; it's time to experiment and open up your world. Make new friends, join an organization that supports a good cause, or try an interesting new cuisine. Your motto for this aspect? The quirkier, the better!
Bet you never knew Uranus was known as zippy. ;D

Happy Birthday DR Jeanne.

DR Ben, i love televisionwithoutpity for all tv recaps. They do the best ones around. And their forums are amazing. So much intelligent chatter about all your favorite shows!

SPOILERS from last night's show
DR Jose, i'm gonna answer your PM here in case anyone else wants to chime in.
On the televisionwithoutpity boards everyone is commenting on the flashforward and why jack kept referring to his father as being alive.
DR Jose mentioned that at the beginning of one of the seasons we found his father's casket empty.
Now so much happens, but i totally do not remember that at all.
I do remember this year that claire saw her father. But i thought he still died.
I must admit jack referring to his father in the future really struck me as being off as well. I couldn't make sense of it. In fact when they were showing kate and jack at the end i was thinking "geez they knew each other before?" Then when jack mentioned getting free flights forever and needing to go back ... i realized it was the future. But the part with jack's dad still was the one thing that didn't fit for me.
Btw, DR Jose, when i read the forum chats at televisionwithoutpity i usually only get to page 4 or 5. There are so many fans there that end up writing 30+ pages for each episode. But you can really get the gist of it in a few pages.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR JEANNE!
HAVE A FANTASTIC DAY! [/size]

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up...
And it's still very sobering and disturbing, to me, to hear the President acknowledge that more American soldiers will be injured and killed over the next couple of months. Even more unsettling to hear him state that there will more than likely be a period of heavy casualties in the near future.

As for "American Idol"...
Poor, poor Carrie Underwood. That Beatles' song really did not sit well in her voice from the first note to the last.
-
And the word of the day is: CANOROUS!
In the middle of our visit to his backwoods home, Floyd stopped for a moment, dug through his sizeable reel-to-reel tape collection, and played for US RACOON mating songs and other CANOROUS sounds from the local woodlands.

Good morning all...... I hope everyone will have a very happy day today!
I'm still trying to absorb all of the info that I have read here, just so far this morning.
So Neptune is in retrograde....... hmmmmmm, might explain a lot of things.
Only here kids,...... only here!

I'm up, I'm up and have read all the posts.
I must now get ready to toddle off to the Alex.
There are only six copies of the Claus Ogerman CD left.

SPOILER
***** LOST SPOILER WARNINGS *****
The Others have lost their thirteen toughest members, plus their leader Ben is captured. But that doesn't mean that Jack and the survivors have that much of an upper hand. The Others as a group are still far more savvy and capable, posess knowledge of the island's mysteries and have reached a point where Ben's continued leadership is in question. However, I do predict that there will be an uneasy alliance between the two groups coming up next season, if only because there will be a greater common enemy.
I'm not too sure the remainder of the "others" do have much knowledge. They've been following Ben's orders....and we got a good look last night at how clueless many of them are about why they are there and what they are supposed to be doing (the two ladies in the underground station, and the fact that Ben had lied to everyone about it being flooded).
None of "the others" were part of the Dharma initiative, and some were already "on" the island pre-Dharma...which begs the question: Who are they and where did they come from and what will happen next? I base this on the fact that Ben, as a child (in his flashback) encountered Nestor Carbonell outside the security barrier.
Carbonell seems to be the smartest of the remaining "others"...and he wasn't among last night's casualties.
-
As for "Lost"...
SPOILERS AHEAD
As for the "game-changing" aspect of the "flash-forwards", well... First of all, I had never come across the term "game-changing"... Cool!
Secondly... After watching last night's season finale, it really has set up the whole time on the island as one big flashback. The "flash-foward" scenes with Kate and jack were obviously in the present. -I loved how people - even my roommate - pointed out the brand and style of cellphone that Jack was using. Now, we just have to figure out how far in the "future" the flash-forwards took place. -And I think future-Kate is with future-Sawyer.
As for why "the Hobbit" allowed himself to die, well... I think he was basically fulfilling Desmond's visions, and he just wanted to stop stalling whatever "process" was/is in motion. Additionally, I think he knew that if Desmond had run into that room, then Desmond would have most likely died too - and by that time the equipment was already flooded out. Also, by closing that door, he prevented the rest of the Hourglass from being flooded out too - the grenade only blew out the porthole. Thus allowing Desmond a chance to get out of there.
As for whatever will be happening over the next three seasons, well... I'm wondering if this was the "hook" that hooked the ABC execs when the creators pitched the show. I sense the real story will not start until we get off the island. Subsequently, the title "Lost" takes on a much larger meaning.
OH! And I also have to wonder if Locke's paralysis has been psychosomatic all along. Maybe the plane crash just made him "forget" all of his troubles; the drastic change of scene gave him a chance to start fresh. And when Walt(!) told him to get up, and he could... Hmm.. ???

LOST SPOILERS

I think a couple of things in last night's LOST heralded a "game changing" scenario for the show: for those who didn't understand how it did.
1. Flashforwards now instead of only flashbacks.
2. The most combative "Others" have been taken out of commission one way or another. We ended the last season with the Others firmly in control. This season ends with exactly the opposite scenario. If that's not game-changing, I don't know what is.
I did not realize that we would be getting flashforwards now. That should be very cool.
I really don't think #2 is what the producers/writers were referring to when they said something would be so dramatic and so drastic that it would change LOST forever.
I really just wanted to know what specific thing they were talking about. Maybe #1 is part of it.

Urp--when i said that the remaining Others were knowledgeable about the island, I meant the mystical aspects. I think they are still limited in what they know about the Dharma technology--even Ben still had no idea that the "purple sky" event meant that the Swan hatch had exploded.
The other Other who was not among last night's casualties was the Sheriff. She hasn't been seen since her initial appearance, but she struck me as one tuff cookie.

SPOILER
So... The one theory that keeps kicking around in my head, is that for whatever reason - known and unknown - everyone was supposed to stay on the island. Consequently...
-Whoever was in the casket, killed himself. Or at least allowed himself to die. I mean, if Jack, was about to kill himself...
-Is it possible that the "flash-forward" took place eight years in the future, and the woman and the eight year-old boy who Jack saved on the bridge were... Maybe that's why that guy at the pharmacy said he was hero for the second time. ???
-That once off the island, all the survivors start to die, one by one.
-And all the Alice in Wonderland imagery - the Looking Glass, the Swan, etc. - has to make sense eventually. To me at least.

Oh... As for that frog on the balcony... Well...

DR GINNY's link reminded me that MAMMA MIA! is coming back to Indy in November....but I don't think Lisa (the most beautiful girl touring in a Broadway show will be in it this time).
That girl should be a Broadway star....I have never heard such singing, heard someone get her laughs, and be so #*&$ beautiful to look at....she is a star!!! 8)
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
James Taylor
And even though he never really sang his own songs: Jimmy Webb
-
MR BRUSHES KIMMEL - if one of your California ladies doesn't make it to NYC, I vote for Ms Lisa Mandel to take over the role....the mother or the space gal....

"Lost" Spoilage...!
I, too, was mesmerized by the finale last night. I thought the "Jack story" (flashforward?) was disturbing...and it was painful to watch him destroying himself.
I, too, was confused by the reference to "call my father's office..." It seemed to validate that his father IS alive...so it appeared to be a flashBACK.
As Jennifer has reported, the final one of these scenes indicated it was a flashFORWARD because the scene between Jack and Kate -- and the reference to the "Golden Pass" (Oceanic, I presume) -- was totally in the future tense.
I agree about Charlie -- he could have escaped. In fact, even though he was in that flooded hatch, presumably drowning (but on this island, who can say what "death" is?), there was an open porthole that looked large enough for him (and his scrawny frame) to escape through in order for him to reach the surface. Thus, Desmond's vision would have been real, but Charlie would survive. And who knows....
I was really glad Hurley had his "moment". I thought the scene last week between him and Charlie was rather touching, especially given the bluntness of Charlie's reference to Hurley's size and its incompatibility with the canoe. Sawyer was rather ugly last night, too....it was great to see Hurley save the day.
I felt really torn about Sawyer killing that guy on the beach, especially since he had given up. This was the guy who defied Ben's orders and did NOT kill the three men on the beach. He was always portrayed as a "probable" good guy. There may be repercussions for Sawyer on that move.
Locke seeing Walt next to the pit was interesting. I think it may have been Jacob/the island using the image of Walt, and his previous closeness with Locke, as a means of communicating/saving Locke from his death (by suicide) in the pit rather than an actual manifestation by Walt as some protective overseer.
-
Wow...the internet.
Lisa Mandel was Miss Arizona in the 1989 Miss America Pageant.
-
Oh... As for that frog on the balcony... Well...
Sometimes a frog is just a frog.

Even when there's no frog sitting there?

Amanda Mitchell is still in second place....thanks again for your votes, everyone. I think the voting continues until Monday....I thought today was the last day of the first round....I will keep you informed.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
James Taylor
And even though he never really sang his own songs: Jimmy Webb
Jimmy Webb most certainly DID sing his own songs. I've enjoyed several of his albums. He just never had any hits from singing his own songs.
His solo vocal of "Highwayman" is miles and miles above the quartet done by Nelson-Kristofferson-et al. The song needs to be sung by one person for it to make any sense - it's about reincarnation.
-
Even when there's no frog sitting there?
Isn't that a Jimmy Webb song? :D

Yeah... That's what I meant. ;)
I just recently discovered Jimmy Webb after listening to Linda Ronstandt do a couple of tunes in concert a couple of times. Good stuff.
-
Due to der Brucer's continually watching one show "live" all season, while recording another, and my schedule (both working and cooking) causing yet another conflict. he and I are so far behind on watching Lost that we won't be catching up to the finale for weeks yet.
The good news is that, by the time we do get to the finale, we'll have forgotten every spoiler that's been posted here today.

Hmmm. I could venture a guess that Ben's comment about the freighter coming to the island would see them all killed COULD mean that they'd all -- EVENTUALLY -- die as a result. I think Jennifer alluded to that in an earlier post.
That second point above, Jose....I don't follow, and I very much want to. The woman and the boy were who? Claire and Aaron? Or...?

Jose, if you can find it there's a fantastic recording by Webb, a long track, on his Land's End album. The two melodies are "Land's End", an instrumental evoking flight, and "Asleep On the Wind," a love song that extends the soaring feeling of the instrumental. Great stuff.

And was the car crash on the bridge really an accident? Which it could have been. And was it the car they showed coming at Jack in the shot before? Or had that car come and gone? And/or is pat of Jack's guilt the fact that by leaving his car on the bridge, he caused the accident.

***** EVEN MORE LOST SPOILERS *****
Reading over some of the blogs that DR Jennifer linked to, it occurred to me that Jack's flashforward mainly indicates that he isn't coping with escaping from the island, not that he is necessarily feeling guilty of being of three to four who managed to escape. It could well be that everyone made it safely off. If I'm recalling Kate's reactions clearly, it could be construed that she has just grown weary of Jack's downward spiral. As Ben had said, "What do you have to go home to, Jack?" It looks like he spoke the truth. Jack could be doomed to suffer the same sort of post-war trauma that so many veterans experience and he's medicating his pain with drink and drugs. And in his suffereing, he believes that the one true way to relieve his pain would be to return to the island.
I hope I don't stay obsessed like this for the next nine months!

But did he snag Guy Haines? That's what I wanna know!

As someone who personally knows both the Log Lady and the one-armed man, believe me, Lost is head and shoulders (and possibly one arm) above Twin Peaks. No comparison whatsoever.

That's one of life's imponderables. :-\

This FIREBRAND OF FLORENCE dilemma continues. After I got screwed over by the used seller on Tuesday, I sent the President of the Kurt Weill Foundation an email asking if he could help me out with a discount on the edition ($425 for subscribers and $600 to nonsubscribers). While I would love to have the entire Weill Edition, I would rather purchase only the ones I really really want. He told me he would get back to me. No word yet.
So, I found a copy on AbeBooks, and I've sent trhe vendor two emails now asking if it's the single orchestra score or the complete 2-volume edition I want. That was two days ago and still no response. Is the universe telling me to forget about this?
-
However if the producers of LOST were suddenly to cast Miss Carroll Baker in a role, I would start watching again....in February.

A Very Happy Birthday to Tomovoz's DP Colin!! ;D

That DR Elmore--who does he think he is anyway?
-
Bruce & everyone in the L.A. area, please read the following carefully.
I hate planning trips to L.A. I can easily name 50-100 people I want to see. Naturally this is impossible which causes me great stress & sleepless nights trying to figure out who I can see on each trip, and then organizing it so we aren’t driving back and forth between counties.
Going for our reunions makes life easier, all those people in one room at one stop. But then there are always more invitations, where Sherlock is also welcomed, to stay with people next time we are in town. Unfortunately none of them live near Keith’s mother, and as usual we shall have to pass on them.
This visit is to spend time with Mom. We will stop in Saugus & Thousand Oaks, and maybe Agoura to see my cousin, on the way down. Once in West L.A. we will basically be with family. I’m already feeling guilty I will once again miss visiting with a good portion of friends, including a few older ones I’m concerned about. And of course this sadly includes planning a HHW gathering. Hopefully next time, someplace where Sherlock can also be included.
-
DR elmore - Are we still on for "Hot Fuzz" this afternoon?
Where is your phone? I just left you another message?

So...are you saying that those of "us" who are talking about it so avidly and with great admiration of it cannot possibly have any taste when it comes to such things.
;)
Well, it looks like someone completely rewrote his original post.
-
No more "Lost" talk.
Speaking of "No More," Sondheim's song is incorrectly listed as being from The Frogs - instead of from Into the Woods - in the liner notes to Barbara Cook's new CD.
Also, "Lover, Come Back to Me" is incorrectly attributed to Richard Rodgers [should be Sigmund Romberg].
-
Where is your phone? I just left you another message?
Sorry.... It was still in my room...

And Romberg stole it from Tchaikovsky.
On a politically incorrect note, has anyone seen this very funny and rude precis of the current Roundabout production?

Yes...I post, and then re-think in terms of whether I've said it correctly...or whether I've come off snarky...and I change it.
And then, I discover someone has been responding to the original...and there I am with muck all over the place.

Great news!
I just called Danise. She reconnected with her family & is with her nieces and ex sister-in-law.
I am so happy for her!!!!!!
Our conversation was very brief, I feel lucky she answered the phone long enough to give me the good news. :D :D :D
Happy is big enough, I'm thrilled for her!

Can "albums" still be correctly used describing a recording on cd? Or is an album specifically denoting a LP record release?

Can "albums" still be correctly used describing a recording on cd? Or is an album specifically denoting a LP record release?
An album is a collection of things.
A CD can be an album in the same way that an LP is an album.
Interestingly enough, a number of CD labels out there still use the term "Records" in their names, which I'm guessing isn't incorrect, either, since a CD is a "recording" in the same sense that an LP is a "recording."
It's a "record" of a collection of songs produced for an "album."
Just don't call CDs "vinyl" or "LPs" and things ought to work out.

I was once cast as Flute in a production that seemed so godawful that I was ecstatic when it fell through. DR Ginny, were you cast as well? It was by the same incompetent director responsible for that BRIDE OF ZORRO production of OKLAHOMA! who cast a brother and sister as Ado Annie and Will Parker. A verrrrry interesting production!

I spent a glorious afternoon with the wonderful 1935 version of LES MISERABLES. I hadn't seen this in at least 20 years and maybe 30, and I was entranced from beginning to end. Terrific performances, grand production values, and a good condensation of the story for the screen. Superb!

Ah, I memention that the transfer was OK. There were some scratches, and it wasn't razor sharp, of course, but imminently watchable. I couldn't place the actress playing Fantine though I knew that I knew her. Of course, it turned out to be March's wife Florence Eldridge. She looked really young, and I geuss that's why I just wasn't placing her.

Because I have a long list of Academy ratio pictures lined up to watch for the rest of the day, I took out a Brosnan/Bond picture to watch - TOMORROW NEVER DIES, filled with widescreen explosions and chases. So much fun.
When I saw this in the theater, the print was so washed out that it appeared to have almost no color at all. Seeing the DVD, it's still on the drab side, but at least there are flesh tones that look real.

I'm guessing THE BLACK ROSE will be my next film of the day which I'll start when I go back down.

Amazon.com seems to be having a bad week.
Or, I seem to be having a bad week and it's all because of amazon.com.
First, there was the cancellation of my pre-order of "Pigskin Parade" with a link to reorder it. Then I find out that my reorder will take 6-11 days to process. Amazon's explanation is that some titles are difficult to get from the companies that manufacture them, and it takes time...never mind that Fox home video also issued "Can-Can" and "On the Riviera' simultaneously, and amazon shipped them Monday.
Yesterday, I had a sudden urge to watch "That Touch of Mink" again. I wanted it in my collection. I went to order it...and got a notice that if I ordered within the next 21 minutes, I could have it today if I used "next-day" delivery for $1.99 extra. Since I get all my shipments via 2-day delivery...and shipping is already pre-paid...and I've more than gotten my money back using pre-payment for 2nd-day delivery, I opted to buy it using next-day delivery.
Do you know....it still hasn't SHIPPED? I'm still being charged $1.99 for the next-day delivery....but it's well past "next day" since I ordered it.
I'm rather steamed, actually.
I've sent Amazon.com a polite little e-mail saying as much.

We are stunned. Stunned! Have we reached a culturally significant watershed moment here? This just boggles the mind. This turns things upside down. Are the Coors Twins out of a job? What about the Miller Lite Cat Fight babes? The St. Pauli Girl? The Rolling Rock Beer Ape Babes? The Milwaukee's Best Automotive Girl? The Foster's Beer Boob? The Bavaria Beer grocery store stripper? Beer.com's Virtual Bartenders? The Troegs Beer burping and farting babe? The Labatt's Blue lesbians?
Cultures will crumble! Models be out of work! Beer drinkers will rebel! Anarchy will become the norm! Without the enjoyment of the beer babe, men will turn increasingly to porn. They will stop buying beer. Beer makers will suffer. Jobs will be lost. St. Louis will disappear. Sales tax revenue will plummet. Government services will be cut. Personal income tax will have to increase resulting in lower take home pay. Mortgages will default. Foreclosures will increase. Banks will fail. The secondary loan market will grind to a halt. Wall Street will be affected. Global economies will suffer.

Sorry Der Brucer - I was meaning that Simon and Newman were way above their peers. Not that either was missing from lists.
On that we agree (particularly in the area of the music as opposed to lyrics).

But how much of the original material has been preserved?

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up...
And it's still very sobering and disturbing, to me, to hear the President acknowledge that more American soldiers will be injured and killed over the next couple of months. Even more unsettling to hear him state that there will more than likely be a period of heavy casualties in the near future.
Bring Them Home!
God on High.............

Good morning all...... I hope everyone will have a very happy day today!
I'm still trying to absorb all of the info that I have read here, just so far this morning.
So Neptune is in retrograde....... hmmmmmm, might explain a lot of things.
Only here kids,...... only here!

CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/05/24/turkey.terror/index.html)
On Thursday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that if the military were to request a retaliation, the parliament, which is dominated by Erdogan's AK party, would support it.
Turkey's army chief, Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, said recently his troops are ready to attack what he calls Kurdish terrorist camps in northern Iraq. And retired Turkish Gen. Edip Baser told CNN he believes an operation could be just weeks away.
Well...a NATO ally invading Iraq from the north would be decidedly unhelpful.

Not a bad work day for me: I took 3 hours of sick leave to look after DS Rob, went in at 12:30, went to a meeting at Panera Bread at 3 and ended my workday there at 5:30. The meeting was the wrap-up for a conference last week for which I was treasurer/registrar. We'll make about $2,000 profit, after all expenses are paid. Hoo and Ray.

Richard Carpenter's expensive production for Karen bombed totally!
I was at a Carpenters concert at Pine Knob, the outdoor amphitheatre in suburban Detroit, when they were promoting that album. When Karen tried to sing some of the serious material, the crowd booed and she walked off the stage in a huff.
-
I wasn't commenting on Carter---just agreeing with him about our "President."
I didn't think you were. ;D Just mentioning him reminded me how dissapointed I am with him.
-
DR Jane - thanks for asking last night about DS Rob. He was diagnosed with mono a week ago Monday. Fortunately, spring and summer quarters are co-op (work) terms for him, so he's not in the last weeks of classes and final exams. He's been here at home with us and eventually we'll have to get down to UC to clear out his room. He was going to have to move out in early June anyway and has decided to move back here for the rest of the summer. He's still trying to decide whether to take that quarter off or try to continue with his co-op job. Poor baby, not the way he'd planned to spend the summer of 2007.
-

Is that the chain store Panera? If so I had a delicious chocolate chip cookie at the one near Craig' new apartment.
-
Back from a walk-through at the Alex - what a gorgeous theater, and it's going to work really well for us. Then had a working lunch with Cason and we budgeted the entire show, which came in exactly where I'd predicted it would.
:D
-
Is that the chain store Panera? If so I had a delicious chocolate chip cookie at the one near Craig' new apartment.
Yes, it's the chain, which is very popular around here. When I left home about 11:30 this morning and told my DH and DS that my day would end with a meeting there, they said, "We want breakfast pastries." I brought home 3 bear claws (topped with almonds and a light orange icing), a blueberry muffin, a pumpkin muffin, and a cranberry-orange muffin.
-
Ginny-Tough break for DS Rob! At least he didn’t miss finals. Does he receive some kind of grade or just credits for his co-op job? Do you mean taking the last quarter off or the summer quarter?
-
I'm watching the first episode of UGLY BETTY, which I've never seen. My god! the late Faye looks just like Anna Wintour. I loved it.
I'm reeling at the moment from an email I just received from Kay Swift's granddaughter whom I met working on the FINE & DANDY recording. I hadn't seen her since the sessions in 2004, and there was a reading of the show a couple of weeks ago. I had been hurt that I wasn't invited to the reading, so I asked how it went and how surprised I was that I hadn't been invited. I got a reply this evening saying that I was unwelcome at the reading; I had complained about payment in 2004 and pissed everyone off.
Well, since Local 802 guarantees its members payment on recording within a certain amount of time, we were neither paid within the time limit nor advised there would be a delay. For us self-employed folk, we're dependent upon payment within the deadlines and I got tired of calling 802 asking if a check had arrived. Since the events happened in 2004, I have little memory now except the phone calls asking about payment. Since I was never aware of any resentment this caused for three years, I was caught totally unprepared. I still feel that I did no wrong: I gave them excellent work at last minute literally, and I was paid late. And they're pissed?
-
I thought he said my ass was in retrograde.
We won't know really until the autopsy.
-
elmore are you sure they aren't related to Mrs. Macbeth? They should be embarrassed, not angry.
-
Ginny-Tough break for DS Rob! At least he didn’t miss finals. Does he receive some kind of grade or just credits for his co-op job? Do you mean taking the last quarter off or the summer quarter?
No grades for co-op, it's a paying job. No paid sick-leave, though, so he'll miss out on making some money. This is the end of spring quarter, of which he's missed about 2 weeks. It's summer quarter he's considering taking off completely. We're just thankful this didn't hit him in an academic quarter (fall and winter for him, when he takes classes).
-
elmore are you sure they aren't related to Mrs. Macbeth? They should be embarrassed, not angry.
No, they're being petty. I now have no wish to work any more with them.
-
elmore-It's a shame they have to be that way. Their loss.
-
Ginny-Do I have it straight that the job is part of a work expierence related to getting his degree?
Are those bear claws filled with loads of almond paste?
-
elmore-It's a shame they have to be that way. Their loss.
A side of me feels that way, too, but being dumped for any reason when you know your work is good still hurts.
Maybe it's the depression I'm in, but every day feels like trying to roll boulders uphill for folk who don't give a hoot in hell.
-
Ginny-Do I have it straight that the job is part of a work expierence related to getting his degree?
He's in his 3rd year of a 5-year program in which spring/summer of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years are work quarters. He did manage to tell us last night that it's his understanding that one can miss up to 2 quarters of co-op and still graduate on time (which I don't understand.
Are those bear claws filled with loads of almond paste?
I'll have to get back to you on this one after breakfast tomorrow!
-
But we still love you, dear DR Elmore :-* !
-
Oh, DR Elmore, the ill-fated production in which you were cast as Flute must have been before I moved here.
-
elmore, it would hurt and right now you are still dealing with the loss of your father, the estate & your hurtful brother. Your coping resources are pretty much used up. They will return & you will eventually feel better.
Just keep reminding yourself “this will pass” & “I will get through this”. And remember, Nursie loves you. :)
-
My wireless laptop has a problem staying connected. I just had to restart the computer so I could post. This only happens about ten times a day-very annoying.

And I love Nurse Jane and DR ginny and everyone on this site! I'm fortunate to have such good shoulders to cry on.
I had a good time with our DR Jose this afternoon. HOT FUZZ was as much fun today as yesterday. I cannot recommend it enough. I'll let DR Jose tell you all abouty our peculiar and inept dining experience this evening. Oy!
BK, your package arrived today. Many many thanks!
-
Good Evening!
Back from the movie - it's amazing how well "Hot Fuzz" held up on a repeated viewing.
Back from dinner - The food was tasty, but the service was lacking - surprisingly so. *I still think we should have just walked out, DR elmore. No one would have noticed.
-
He did manage to tell us last night that it's his understanding that one can miss up to 2 quarters of co-op and still graduate on time
I hope he has that in writing. But this co-op he had to leave early still counts & he still has two more he can miss?
I will be watching for the bear claw report.
-

Hmm... Sounds like something isn't configured properly. Or maybe you're just spending too much time on HHW. ;)
-
Have we discussed this before: I just watched the first episode of UGLY BETTY - is there some balancing factor which makes it OK for a show to have such a negative stereotype of a gay character as Ms. Williams' assistant? The show is obviously highly regarded, but this "bitchy queen" portrayal, combined with what i saw of the (possibly gay???) little boy turning out in the most recent weeks to pretty much poison someone to get a part in a school play, makes me wonder how this show gets away with it. If a show is well written and is of high quality, does it make such negative portrayals acceptable?
-

Keith said he didn't have any problems while I was in Pittsburgh. I know I'm spending too much time here, I should be out walking. ;)
-
I must have missed the episode of the nephew trying to poison someone, most of the time he is a fun kid.
The assistant does have some endearing qualities. He is a good friend to the girl at the front desk. :-\
We tired of the show half way through the second season.
-
I must rest up for my last day of work before my 4-day weekend.
'night!
-
SPOILER - UGLY BETTY SEASON FINALE FROM LAST WEEK
The kid (who was the understudy for the lead in the school show) gave the guy playing the lead nuts even though the lead had an allergy to nuts. Of course, the kid ended up going on in the role.
-
Back from a wonderful meeting with the president of LACC and the news is most excellent - our show is funded. He found a way to do it so it's all coming from one place, and it's being given to us, so that all the actual proceeds from the event go right into our coffers without any deductions.
-
Maybe "pretty much poison" was too strong, but it seems evil to me to give someone with an allergy the very thing to which they're allergic.
-
Maybe "pretty much poison" was too strong, but it seems evil to me to give someone with an allergy the very thing to which they're allergic.
No it wasn't and I'm glad I stopped watching the show.
-
I then drove to the Academy, got there at five-fifteen only to be told they were closed and wouldn't open until six-thirty, at which time I'd have to stand in line to BUY tickets and then stand in another line to get in. I passed. I'm very weird about this stuff, and I like to go in when the doors open and I like to be at the front of the line and I like to sit where I like to sit. So, without knowing how many people were going to be there, and knowing there was an invitational reception for 100 people beforehand (Nick Redman wormed his way into that by going as the guest of an invitee), I just got antsy and left.
-
Bruce, great news!
-
Will we never get to page sixteen?
-
I'm trying to generate some P.C. controversy here which may add to the posting tally :) . But I'm wondering if we've been through this discussion before I started really watching UGLY BETTY.
-
A friend just called me on my cell phone. It rings in the house but I can’t answer it without any bars. I called her back immediately and her phone is busy-guess she went on to the next person she has to call tonight.;D
I gave her enough time to leave a very long message.
-
JFL-I don't know.
I tend to watch shows a day to a week after they air, so when I was watching the show I would have skipped posts regarding it.
-
I must be getting crabby. Last week MEDIUM bothered me no end, and now UGLY BETTY.

ON THE LOT is very interesting....with some villains and heroes already showing their colors.
-
CRABBY FREDDIE - that's the name of my new TV show about....never mind. :)

Congrats to DR GINNY on her $2000 profit!!! We should all be so lucky.
Funding for BK but NO ticket for THE HIGH AND THE MIGHTY.....that is a bummer. Who makes these rules?
-

Great TV title, DR FJL.
If only those producers in the past had been as creative, we might have had:

My fave movie actor is Crabby Hayes (for the moment anyway).
-
Watching LADY IN CEMENT in HD.....it does NOT improve the film.

Picture Mommy Dead is featured in Comcast ON DEMAND this month.

Crabby Hayes was great in those Rogers/Evans films....loved it on tv when they ended the show by singing "Crabby Trails".

You could always let go of the boulders and watch them get flattened on the way down the hill....
-
Picture Mommy Dead? Is that what kids watch these days? Feh on kids today.

:)
-
I checked and I don't have another Medium to watch, so that must have been the one (with Neve Campbell). Keith wasn't thrilled with it either. I don't think he would use the word bothered.
-
Jane, yes, that's the one. I was pleased to have this board to vent, and to hear the different points of view.
-
DR ELMORE - they need you much more than you need them. I agree that they were embarrassed by the situation in which you (and others) were treated unfairly. If YOU had been paid ON TIME, no problem would exist. They are punishing you for their own incompetence.
-
Jane, yes, that's the one. I was pleased to have this board to vent, and to hear the different points of view.
I would have enjoyed that if we didn't wait until last night to watch both episodes, one after the other.
-

I don't even like movies with a different POV. ;D

I fell asleep watching it!
-
Ok, no I didn't but how do you not say that about a film about insomnia
-
I liked what I saw. I missed the first 1/2 hour so I recorded it and plan to watch it so I see the whole thing. His coffee experiment really made me laugh. I know a lot of people who stay up all night working on creative things, and I guess I never thought about it being because they can't sleep, I just figured that's when they did their best work.
-
I think that they will probably be here to cut down 8 trees in my yard tomorrow. There's a chance that due to all the rain we've had, the ground is too soft for their equipment, but if not, I will be at home while they work on the trees. I hope it's tomorrow. I'm ready for a 4 day weekend and ready to get away from the people at the office. They are driving me nuts.
-
Who "costumed" this show????????
Jose did it!
-
We're going to try to see HOT FUZZ on Memorial Day. I was surprised to see that Edward Woodward is in it. (I love him!) I was working on a movie in NY over 20 years ago and the Equalizer was cutting down the hall from us in Times Square. EW had a heart attack back then---I'm glad he's still around!
He had a birthday while I was working there and invited all the editors, not just his, down for cake and ice cream. Nice guy!
-
I'm surprised you're not going to wait for a HDTV-enhanced version.
Well, there are very, very few regular TV shows that have been issued in high definition transfers. In fact, I can think of only two: SMALLVILLE and the soon-to-be-released HEROES. There are plans for RESCUE ME to be issued on high def DVDs, but it hasn't come out yet.
And that's it, so I think I'd have a long wait.
I have seen the shows in high def. Ideally, I'd like to have them that way, but since they aren't going to be released that way (at least not yet), I'll take what I can get.
-
NOT REALLY A LOST SPOILER>>>>>>>>>
I wasn't into Lost, but after watching the recap show, I really enjoyed the season finale.
-
Will we never get to page sixteen?
Arrived and deparated already.
-
I may be going to the lake tomorrow night. It's either tomorrow night or Saturday morning. Right now I'm leaning toward Saturday morning (there's a bridal shower at 11:00 am) but we'll see. If I'm home all day I can get my chores done and I won't mind going.
I have the cat sitter all lined up and will come back here on Sunday. I have finally decided how I want to decorate my bathroom, so I'm thinking I'll do that on Sunday and Monday - or at least get started on it
-

Ok, no I didn't but how do you not say that about a film about insomnia
Actually, I know a few people who did sleep during it (I had talked them into going at the film festival) since it showed at a very late hour.
The coffee section was my favorite part, caffeine addict that I am!
-
DR FJL, I think you're totally missing the point of UGLY BETTY.
It's a BROAD American version of the Mexican telenovellas in which there are stereotypical characters of every persuasion.
If you think Marc is so objectionable, doesn't that mean that you also have to think Vanessa Williams (and all powerful black women) are objectionable, and Eric Mabius (and all spoiled, pampered rich white men of privilege) are objectionable, and , well, you get the picture.
The show is a comedy which pushes buttons on all races, classes, and sexes. What I have admired greatly about it is that Marc, and Vanessa, and Eric's character have all shown moments of great tenderness, generosity, and warmth amid their devious, often self-immolating ways, and the fact that you can find these things in a broad satire of Spanish soap operas is quite wonderful.
-
It will take two months to get your bathroom done.
LOL---it's taking us longer than that!
-
I still only have a tile floor, a bathtub that is not hooked up, and a bucket in mine.
-
Michael S-Did the pain killers work?
Believe it or not I am still de-novocaining, but I took two pills just in case, So far so good
-
I began my evening watching the next-to-last PLANET EARTH episode - "Seasonal Forests." Amazing footage once again, and using time lapse photography to show cycles of trees and plants was just stupendous.
Much rare animal life footage was also captured and made it one of the strongest of the episodes.
-
I know a lot of people who stay up all night working on creative things, and I guess I never thought about it being because they can't sleep, I just figured that's when they did their best work.
I like editing best after sunset, and when I don't have a day job I work on my own projects, usually until 2 or 3AM. My DH is also a night person, I think, although he often has to get up super early for jobs.
-
Off to do some dogwalking.
Is it like moonwalking? ;)
-
Next, I played and enjoyed THE WEST POINT STORY. Hadn't seen it in a long time, and it was certainly a wonderful debut film for Gordon McRae and Gene Nelson. Doris Day doesn't enter until 45 minutes into the picture, and then she just transforms it with her spirit and charm.
Cagney sings and dances exactly as he did as George M. Cohan eight years earlier, but it's pleasant entertainment.
Warners didn't expend much effort to clean up the master. There are specks and marks throughout the film, but not so much that it's annoying.
-
Her little French boy, or whatever is nickname is.
Frog! You kisses him and he turns into a Prince! A French Prince, that is! ;)
-
Favorite old crabby joke:

This Maître D sure was French!
-
Next, I watched ARABIAN NIGHTS. This Universal film was released a month or two ago at the same time as THE HEIRESS, but to save money then, I didn't order it. The price came down at Deep Discount, so I ordered it and it came today.
It's a silly tale, but the men are gorgeous, especially Jon Hall and Leif Ericson. And the beautiful Technicolor transfer really shows off Maria Montez's beauty (you don't need Technicolor to show up her limitations as an actress). Sabu is lots of fun in this as well, and along for the ride are folks like Billy Gilbert and Shemp Howard, among others.
Fox and Warners, who have turned out some very disappointing Technicolor transfers lately, should borrow a page from Universal's book. This looked wonderful.
-
SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!
It will take two months to get your bathroom done.
I stripped off the wall paper about a year ago. I haven't scrubbed off the paste and painted yet....so I'm already a year into the project.

TWILIGHT ZONE ALMOST-SPOILER

UGLY BETTY is a comedy which pushes buttons on all races, classes, and sexes? A broad satire? If that's true, then based on the season finale, the creative team seems not to know what they are, or else they've lost control of their storyline.
-
Have we discussed this before: I just watched the first episode of UGLY BETTY - is there some balancing factor which makes it OK for a show to have such a negative stereotype of a gay character as Ms. Williams' assistant? One viewing was more than enough for DP Colin and myself.

Don't mind me. I'm crabby tonight. Don't know why: The dog poop came very easily, so i should be walking on air.
-
Well, that's better than walking on dog poop.
-
hey, it's fun just saying what's on my mind. Can I do that all the time and use the reason that I feel crabby?
-
The first copies of the HHW Birthdates Cd have been finished and shall be posted on Monday.
DRs who wish to have a copy and for whom I do not have a mailing address, please PM me here.
So far I have six definite requests!

Even on days when I'm not really crabby, i mean.

UGLY BETTY is a comedy which pushes buttons on all races, classes, and sexes? A broad satire? If that's true, then based on the season finale, the creative team seems not to know what they are, or else they've lost control of their storyline.
Well, all I can say is that I taught children for 30 years, and some of the more precocious ones might well have tried what Justin did to get his chance in the limelight. Again, it's a satire and supposed to be in fun. Sorry you're not having any.
-
Oh, and the drama on the show is also exaggerated just like on soaps, e.g. the girlfriend pregnant by another man who tricks the heroine's love into potentially marrying her, Betty's father being seduced by the social worker in the name of getting him a green card.
-
Might go get a bite to eat, since I had my big meal at eleven-thirty this morning.
-
But I think DRs Jane and Tomovoz have the best idea. If a show bugs you so much, stop watching. There are lots of other channels out there.
-
See! I can be crabby too! ;D
-
Off to bed now.
Good night!
-
UGLY BETTY SPOILERS
Continuing my evening of crabbiness: :)
(a) The boy could have seriously harmed the boy with the peanut allergy and should have been arrested or at least his family sued for what he did. If some kid is tempted to try that in real life, someone has fallen asleep at the wheel in bringing that kid up. The show seems to suggest that what the kid did is OK.
(b) the shooting ending shows a loss of control by the writers, if the show is indeed supposed to be a satire.
(c) You surely see the difference between a gay stereotype on a show with no positive gay characters, and the treatment of Mabius' character. Also, I can't argue with Williams' character; she's a "bitch" who just happens to be played by am African-American actress - they do not define the charcater by any racial stereotypes, nor would they dare do so. The gay character is defined by gay stereotypes. That's a big difference.

I don't believe in just not watching if something bothers me. I'm trying to get ahead (in a small small way) in the entertainment field, and it's important to me that I know what the trends are. For an extreme example, the Grease reality show, however "low-quality," was required viewing, to know what's going on in the theater world. If comedy is getting more cruel, it's important that I sample that as well. But also as an example, if I see bad influences on kids taking place in the family hour, I need to vent. You can't look the other way just because something bothers you, you must meet it (dare I say it) head on.

I wanna be crabby too!!!!!!

And BTW, I love hearing your points of view, Matt. Give and take, even friendly disagreement, with people on this site is one of the joys of being here.
-
But how can I be crabby after watching DR Sandra's preschoolers at graduation tonight. Anyone hearing thirty preschoolers belt out "Jesus Loves the Little Children" in a monotone can't be crabby.
-
I wanna be crabby
But I can't be crabby
'Til I make you crabby too
Nothing is worth griping
With no one else sniping
Let my mood rub off on you

Crabbieness is a thing called Fred.
Who sang that?
-
"Crabby" that was the song from "Diana Sings the Blues".
-
Didn;t the Heebee-BeeGees sing "Blaming it all on The Lice on Broadway"
-
"Crabbiness is a warm gun"
I don't know what that means but Eric Clapton would play the guitar backing well.
-
I'm also not sure about the spelling of crabbieness/crabbyness/crabbiness.
-
maybe I'm not sure/shore/shaw about it.
-
LOL FJL. DR Rodzinski has now discovered the joys of the HeeBeeGeeBees.
meaningless songs in very high voices.

Crabby days are here again
The clouds above are near again
So let's all go see Cape Fear again
Crabby days are here again

Life is a Crab-array, old chum

CRABBIN' IN THIS GUY - kind of a Reefer madness, only about crabs

As Samantha sang,
Goodnight, goodnight, goodnight, goodnight.

Well, that's better than walking on dog poop.
Speaking of poop, a bird pooped on George Bush at his outdoor press conference today. Conicidence? I think not.

I missed the whole crabby bit. Damn! Instead I was out having a bite to eat at a newly-discovered restaurant that I've probably driven by about 1000 times in the last fifteen years without once noticing it. Called the California Canteen, it's actually mostly a French restaurant - I had a lovely Caesar Salad and great onion soup. I'll be going back.
