Well, you've read the notes, the notes were traffic-centric, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they are, of course, stuck in traffic.
-
And the word of the day is: SUPERNUMERARY!
-

For once I actually remembered to check the initials this morning when I got up instead of remembering at the end of the day, but it was kind of a moot point. You guys are so good!
-
It's tough when the east coast listkeepers aren't with us yet... I see that all names I thought of had already been all posted, so I'll just check later when there's a list going (or after I've had coffee!) and see if I can add anything.
-
And in case I forget to mention it, new episode of THE CLOSER, tonight at 9est!
-
Oh, I did think of one...Betty Monroe, the girl who didn't have an engagement ring as nice as Janet's in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.
-
Forgive me. When I said "Bruce Maher", I meant "Bruce Mahler".
-
****END OF NIGHT MONDAY IS LAST CALL TO RSVP TO AOL ADDRESS DYLAN43RD FOR THE PARTY ON FRIDAY NIGHT. BUT SERIOUSLY, ONLY RSVP IF YOU'RE REALLY PLANNING ON COMING!!! it's casual, but we really do need to plan realistically on how much food to have.******
INVITATION TO HHW-ERS -
RSVP BY MONDAY JULY 21 BY EMAIL TO MY AOL ADDRESS DYLAN43RD. PLEASE DO NOT RSVP HERE ON THE BOARD OR BY HHW MESSAGE OR I WILL LOSE TRACK AND THERE WON'T BE ENOUGH FOOD.!
MINI-GATHERING AT OUR PLACE IN HONOR OF BK'S BEING IN TOWN
7:00 PM FRIDAY JULY 25
(We have two dogs - corgis - and they will be wandering around the room looking longingly at the food!!!)
-
So far, the list for the mini-gathering includes Skip, me, Toby, Dylan, BK, Larry, singdaw, JulieMiller.
-
We have a heat advisory until 6pm this evening. When I left for work it was 74 degrees (pleasant) but it's supposed to be over 90 by the middle of the day.
-
Can't stay and chat, we did get the severe storms last night for the second night in a row. Last night the wind was 74 miles per hour and we had torrential rains. The one very healthy maple tree by my drive way lost a HUGE limb. There are trees down, wires down and electricity out around town. Other than the maple tree, so far it looks like I'm OK, I have to go outside and check.
Better run, I want to get to work early today and it may not be easy to get there
-
Bob McCaffrey, radio operator, South Pacific.
-
Glad you are safe, DR Cillaliz!
-
Oh, I did think of one...Betty Monroe, the girl who didn't have an engagement ring as nice as Janet's in THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW.
And...
Since you didn't mention it...
Brad Majors!
Same film. ;D
-
Duh....
-
And my own brother is named Brad. Y'd think...
-
Brett Martin, former "Road Warrior" on Fox 5 Atlanta, now with CBS (hope he had an attitude change...).
-
Bip the Mime? Marcel Marceau's character...I don't think he had a last name!
-
And the word of the day is: SUPERNUMERARY!
The play was going great guns, until the ultimate death scene came along and the star was upstaged by the SUPERNUMERARY having a PURER ANEURYSM.
-
I'm up.
I'll start getting the list together now.
-
Broadway actress Bernice Massi (No Strings, What Makes Sammy Run?)
-
Bill Macey (Maude et al)
-
Brian Mitchell (Jackpot on Trapper John MD)
-
Brian Stokes Mitchell (Formerly Brian Mitchell and now a "Broadway" Star
-
Barry Mann (song writer Somewhere Out There)
-
A judgement call----actress Betsy Jones-Moreland?
I'm going to allow this one. Her birth name was Jones, Moreland was her married name, and apparently she used her last names both hyphenated and not.
(And that's scorekeeping, folks!)
-
Larry "Bud" Melman?
This one I'm going to have to disallow. The actor was Calvert deForest, with Larry "Bud" Melman being a character he played. Unfortunately, the character was always known as Larry "Bud" Melman, not as Bud Melman, which makes his first initial L, not B.
It'll be worth remembering when the game is LM, however.
-
It's tough when the east coast listkeepers aren't with us yet... I see that all names I thought of had already been all posted, so I'll just check later when there's a list going (or after I've had coffee!) and see if I can add anything.
IT'S MY DAY OFF!!!
Nag, nag, nag. Sheesh.
;)
-
Bip the Mime? Marcel Marceau's character...I don't think he had a last name!
Ouch. No. The character's name was/is Bip. First only, no last.
-
Brian Mitchell (Jackpot on Trapper John MD)
Same guy as Brian Stokes Mitchell. No, seriously, he had a career before he added his middle name.
Oh, you already knew that. Sorry, one per customer. No double-dipping.
-
Barry Mann (song writer Somewhere Out There)

I'll once again be waiting patiently to see if the mail brings me what is supposed to be my next review disc. I have back-ups, of course, but I'd like to make street date with THE SCORPION KING if the USPS will cooperate.
-
Well, today is the BIG day! Leaving for New York tonight at midnight. Have loads to do so probably won't be on here very much today, we'll see. Have laundry to do, go bug my "supposed" employer for a small reimbursement check they owe me, deposit check I did get for the week I did work, get money and such and a million other things! :) Am I excited? YES!
-
I have to say that I get the giggles when I see bk put the "TM" symbol after The Initials Game in the notes. And someone (was it DR derBrucer?) put the copyright symbol after WBBL the other night, and that also made me burst out laughing.
-
And I am going to try really hard to get to Levain's Bakery at the end of my trip for the amazing chocolate chip cookies!
JMK, I'm not sure how many to get you but I'll do my best to guess! :)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And, yes, it does look like we're in store for a hot and humid day here in NYC. -Of course, since I'll be down at Chelsea Studios this afternoon, I'll most likely have to bring a pullover to help keep me "warm" in the air-conditioned cool of the studios.

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up.

JMK, I'm not sure how many to get you but I'll do my best to guess! :)
Well... Each of their cookies weighs a hefty 6 ounces, so just be sure you don't buy too many or you may end up having to pay excess baggage fees on your flight back.
*And I'd suggest just getting a box of four - one of each flavor. Or two boxes of four. ;)
**And, remember, they only take cash. So, have plenty of cash on you. :P
-
And very impressed with the names - some I'd already thought of and a lot I hadn't. Good ones!

Marx Brothers
Uh, no. They were not known as the Brothers Marx.
-
Barry Moss, B'way casting director.
-
I'll once again be waiting patiently
Let us be the judge of that. ;)
-
Bronislau? I believe Martinu's first name is actually "Bohuslav".
-Yep, I just checked, it is "Bohuslav Martinu".
*I used to accompany many flute players on the Martinu flute sonata in college. And his piano music is quite wonderful too.
It was late. Listmaker, please correct the spelling.
-
Blue Mitchell - legendary jazz great.
-
Brandon Maggart - original cast of Applause.

Already done

I knew B.M. would be a little more difficult than the last few, but I think that B.M.'s usually are. And I also think that there's a lot more to come, although we're doing very well at eight in the morning.
-
Wow, thanks for all the travel vibes! :) Teeth are much better today!
Sorry for the confusion about the travel plans. No, Ringo's concert was last night and then leaving for NY tonight.

I think the BMs are passing quite nicely.

Travel vibes for DR JULIEC40 and her sister....while I wait for someone else to post a name and hope it isn't the one I am thinking of.

Uh, no. They were not known as the Brothers Marx.
Busted! By the Game Warden ;D
-
DR JRand57...bk dispensed with that rule some time ago. You can post consecutively, so long as it is just one name per post.

Bill Monroe - the Father of Bluegrass.
Thanks DR SINGDAW.

To reply to S. Woody's question of yesterday:
I have heard of, and have seen, "Dr. Who", in both the 70s (?) BBC incarnation and in the current one.
I had heard of the character "Tintin" but knew nothing about him, per se.
Looking it up, it seems "Tintin" is a made-to-order subject for Mr. Spielberg. I'm certain he'll have no difficulty finding a suitable writer to replace the defecting one. The question is, how will "Tintin" translate to/for the 21st Century?
I don't believe one can equate any ratings for a British TV program with ratings for anything in the U.S. You'd need to know the precise ratio of TVs there being monitored and the proportional equation to population, just was you'd need to know the same for sets in the U.S. I doubt, seriously, that anyone adequately rates TV programs based on what a representative percentage of any population watches. I know U.S. ratings are skewed toward a much younger viewing audience -- 17-24, for instance. Are ratings in the U.K. skewed the same way?
By skewed toward, I mean that this rating group seems to mean much more to the networks than any other age demographic.

I'm having lunch with best friend John today, so I need to head downstairs and get cleaned up.
WBBL.

Bryn Mawr - won't count, I know, but there it is.
I'm going to count this. The name means big hill in Welsh, and since it has both a first and last word I think it qualifies.
But only just barely. ;)

Brokeback Mountain
That's it, throw it right back at me.
I'm going to defer to our exteemed BK for a ruling on this one. (Until that ruling, it will be on the list, but let's keep this to a minimum - I'd hate to have to delete lots of posts.)
added thought - there are critics who would argue that Brokeback Mountain is as much a character in the film as any of the humans.

I hope the previous item wasn't a serious violation of the one-name-per-post rule.
They were identical twins, and this film was their one major appearance in cinema.
If it helps, I'll put Bobby Mauch's name in this post so they each appear in separate posts.

Tonight on tv for me:
THE MOLE
CANADIAN IDOL
HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA results show.
I thought ALW was funny. Interestingly he would not say his favorite out loud. Although the other judges really praised 3 out of the 4. Yet declared 2 of them their favorites. My favorite is the 3rd, jayme. The weird this is when i tried to vote her line was busy for 90 minutes. What the heck??? How can they seem who got the most calls if one cannot even get thru!
I found out PROJECT RUNWAY season 5 will start here on sept 1st (i guess that is like 6 weeks after the US). Not sure why they do this every season. Oh well. I guess i'll just have to block out the eliminated contestants!

Several dozen should suffice. :) Get the kind with nuts, please.

I believe the two Brian Mays are one and the same person - can someone check?
-
I'll see if elmore does the B.M. that we both know and loathe - the man who, in fact, was mostly repsonsible for the debacle of October 2001.
-
I believe the two Brian Mays are one and the same person - can someone check?
They are not. The Brian May of Queen is very much alive. The film composer is deceased.

The Brian May of Queen

I remember those!! I liked them, too.

I re-watched the film Sordid Lives over the weekend. I just love it! :)
And then I watched all the bonus features on the DVD.

And then I programmed my DVR to capture the Logo series.

I'm not obssessive.
Much.

Compulsive? Perhaps.
But not obssessive.

Thanks for checking about Brian May.

Thanks for checking about Brian May.
He was just following the dictum, Come What May...
-
Thanks for checking about Brian May.
No problem. May of Queen is actually British and was born in 1947.
May of film composition was Australian, born in 1934 and died in 1997.

We never do learn Mrs. Munday's first name in Evening Primrose, do we?

Back from a rough two-mile jog and thought of two more:
Brittany Murphy - actress/singer, Clueless, Girl, Interrupted and many more.
-
And more importantly, Barton MacLane, actor - many films including The Maltese Falcon.
-
I've heard of him, but I've never heard any of his music...Bret Michaels, "singer"

We never do learn Mrs. Munday's first name in Evening Primrose, do we?

How about "Bridey" Marchmain, heir to the Brideshead estate in "Brideshead Revisited."
Although he was Lord Marchmain, he was called "Bridey"....so.....?
-
Big Witch, a character in The Nightmare Before Christmas ..
...never mind, DR Ronnie P caught my mistake ... well, a W is an M upside down ...
-
Big Witch, a character in The Nightmare Before Christmas
Wrong initials?
-
How about "Bridey" Marchmain, heir to the Brideshead estate in "Brideshead Revisited."
Although he was Lord Marchmain, he was called "Bridey"....so.....?
Sounds like a good argument to me, so if I was the judge, I'd rule in your favor ... but I'm just a posting peon ...
-
Wasn't Bret Michaels one of those celebs with an X rated home movie all over the Internet?
Could be, but he's the rock singer that has that reality show "Rock of Love" -- I haven't seen it but he was on a talk show and brought a clip -- looks like a variation on the dating reality shows like "The Bachelor," etc. I'll have to look up what band he was with, but it's like the rock star and the babes -- a bunch of girls sign on and he picks one at the end. Sounds like it's been on several seasons -- and no real love match yet...
-
Wrong initials?
Good grief -- I wasn't thinking. derWoody will be glad that you're keeping on eye on me while he's napping -- I keep doing that today, trying to slip in the wrong initials ... I'll try to be more careful ... spoo!

Yeah, that's the ticket, Big Mitch .. isn't that what they call the Michelin Tire Guy -- Big Mitch or Big Mich? (I'm going for the save here folks .... maybe? ...)
-
Ah, yes....The Better Way!
Or, in your case...
The Wetter Bay! ;)
-
Oh, okay, I know who he is now -- Bret Michaels was in the band Poison -- sang "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" -- I've heard of Poison, but not most of their music, except I do know that song and have heard it a lot. Rock of Love is on VH1 -- and he was the lead singer in a videgame called Guitar Hero. Wikipedia didn't mention any sex tape, but he likes to play the bad boy so ....
-
I amend that last message -- you are right bk, I didn't scroll down far enough. He was in a relationship with Pamela Anderson, and a sex tape is mentioned ...
-
... and another sex tape of him and some of his Rock of Love gals got out on the internet ... Okay, I know, more than you ever wanted to know about Bret Michaels ...
-
Is the Bret Michaels everyone is mentioning the SAME Bret Michaels who was a wrestler in the WWF a number of years back?
-
Or, in your case...
The Wetter Bay! ;)
It's certainly Foggier.

Is the Bret Michaels everyone is mentioning the SAME Bret Michaels who was a wrestler in the WWF a number of years back?
Doesn't mention the WWF on the rock singer Bret Michael's Wikipedia page -- and when I goggled Bret Michaels WWF, the Bret Michaels fight came up (Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels) but so far nothing on an individual WWFer named Bret Michaels, but that could only mean I'm not looking in the right place...
-
Do they still call the "Foggy Bottom" Metro stop in Washington D.C. "Froggy Bottom"?
-
It's certainly Foggier.
Or possibly pixillated ....
-
Pixillated -- I like that word, DR RP -- a fun one, like discombobulated... I think I'll be using pixillated a lot....
-
Yeah, that's the ticket, Big Mitch .. isn't that what they call the Michelin Tire Guy -- Big Mitch or Big Mich? (I'm going for the save here folks .... maybe? ...)
Ooh, ooh, I know that one:
Bibendum, or Bib for short. My DH knows his whole history since he's been doing a lot of work for Michelin.

... I think I'll be using pixillated a lot....
Just be sure to follow the dosage instructions carefully...

Much to my increasing irritation, THE SCORPION KING Blu-ray disc did not come today. Argh!
I guess if I have some time this evening, I'll continue watching the bonus features on the sDVD that I have.
-
Bruce Miller - film/theater critic at the Sioux City Journal
-
That's it: Bib Mich! ;)
LOL!
The reason he is white is that the tires were originally white, not just white walls. Bib's original logo showed him imbibing in big glasses full of nails and other road hazards, because he was so tough, it wouldn't hurt him.

I had some errands to run - pick up a couple of sympathy cards and mail a package, so my viewing time was a little limited this afternoon.

So, I spent most of the afternoon with SHINE A LIGHT, Martin Scorsese's film of the Rolling Stone's concert at the Beacon Theater in NYC. If you're a Stones fan, you'll be in heaven with the camerawork allowing you to get up close and personal. The 5.1 sound rocks the house.
Not as trenchant a docu-concert as Scorsese's THE LAST WALTZ, but still good for a single look. There are a few bonus features I'll get to this evening.
-
Bugsy Malone
done many pages back. (page 1 maybe?)

No time to catch up. I have had my last pretrial conference, gone home and cut the downed limb into pieces I hope they will pick up with the trash. (That was a lot of sawing) Recovered from getting overheated cutting the tree limb and am not back at work.
-
Wasn't it Mellman? The toast on a stick guy
Yes, I think so.
-
I did have time to skim quickly through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke and Noah and not in the previews for tomorrow either.

Not sure how all the "Mc"s fill the bill, but if the M is sufficient, I name
Bear McCreary, composer, TV series "Battlestar Galactica".

They are not - one is an Aussie film composr (Mad Max), the other a British rock star.

Dakota Celt are you just not reading the NOTES? And are you not reading the posts - just about every name you've mentioned has been listed - and the big list appears several times on this board.

And here it is folks:
Government inspectors have found the same salmonella strain responsible for a nationwide food-poisoning outbreak in a Mexican-grown jalapeno in a Texas plant, prompting a new warning for consumers to avoid eating fresh jalapenos.
The Food and Drug Administration called Monday's announcement a "very important break in the case."
But it doesn't mean Mexican jalapenos are the culprit _ the pepper may not have been contaminated on the farm. And while tomatoes currently are safe to eat, health officials also said the finding doesn't exonerate tomatoes that were sold earlier in the spring and summer.
These idiots just can't admit they were completely wrong about the tomatoes - they had ZERO evidence and just guessed, thereby causing the tomato growers millions of dollars. These creeps need to apologize and admit their error. They at least now seem to have some proof of the jalapeno thing, or so they say.
-
BK, what channel did CRIME AGAINST JOE air on?
I am so bummed that I missed it! I have long wanted to see that movie.
-
The Barra McNeils (http://www.barramacneils.com/)! They recorded a version of Auld Lang Syne that is purported to be the original melody, not the Guy Lombardo version. It's a beautiful version. My sister's boyfriend recorded their Christmas concert on PBS and that song was in it.

Belinda Montgomery, actress...
I did her pages ago.

Trying to and thinking off the top of my head at work... Trying not to look too obvious that I am chatting on teh board...

Good Afternoon!
Greetings from the cool - almost chilly - comfort of Chelsea Studios. We finished about 15 minutes ago, but since the studio was rented for another hour, I figured I'd use the time to catch up on things computer and internet. -Or something like that.
-
We had a nice turn out today. About 170 people came in. And we have a nice group coming back tomorrow morning for the callbacks. -Which should go quite quickly. I'll be coming in at 11:00 - instead of 10:00 now - and it looks like we'll be done by Noon. Thank you, Disney! ;)

Eh... "Froggy Bottom" never really caught on. However, saying "Foggy Bottom" followed by a slight, embarrassed giggle still seems to be the norm.

Well, I think I'm going to get my stuff together here and get ready to head out into the heat and humidity. No one came in to the room complaining about the weather - and it was actually still kind of nice and breezy when I walked in during the lunch hour, so... We shall see...
Laters...

Thank you kindly, DR George! :D

Now, I didn't specifically check each disc, so if there are any problems, any at all (even breakage), just let me know...not that there should be, but you never know. I can easily reburn them and make sure that everything is okay. ;D

Brent Musburger, sportscaster.

:o TMI!! TMI!! :-X

If groaning were permitted, that's what I'd be doing.

Bunky Miller, gay contestant on BIG BROTHER's second season.

Finished writing up all I could of SHINE A LIGHT. Heading down now to watch the bonus features on the disc.
Then, I plan to finish FEAR ITSELF from the other night and watch last night's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT.

Hi Kids!
Boy, speaking of traffic, we're on page 14! I have a lot of catching up to do. It must be all the initials lists.

DR JMK - The only cookie with nuts at Levain is their Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie. Otherwise, you may also choose either a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip one, an Oatmeal Raisin one, of a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip one. -It's always best to start off with the "sampler pack" and proceed from there. ;)
Yes, Chocolate Chip Walnut is exactly what I want. Make that need. In copious quantities. :)

Not to nitpick our birthday gal, but just because he's an Atlanta boy, I feel the need to correct Bernard/Barnard Marcus. He's known 'round these here parts as Bernie Marcus.

Is Belinda J Montgomery the same actress as Belinda Montgomery

DID ANYONE LIST OUR VERY OWN DR BEN MCLAUGHLIN of "DANGER MOUSE" FAME?
-
Good one, Kerry!
-
Just a note of congratulations to all. With all my early postings, I'd pretty much shot my load. As the actual inventor of this game, I was concerned that my intense participation would leave very little left for everyone else. I'm very glad that it has not been the case. How'd I miss Benito Mussolini? And Bill Moyers?
And Brent Musburger? And all the Mavericks? And Barton MacLane? Applaud yourselves! See you next week(unless I happen to think of any more tonight).
-
Back from seeing Wall-E, which was very inventive and fun. For the last few weeks, I sure could have used an All-Access Hover Chair!
-
BK, what channel did CRIME AGAINST JOE air on?
I am so bummed that I missed it! I have long wanted to see that movie.
TCM.

Bert Mooney---has a namesake airport in Montana, so he must be important!
The airport is named after Bert Mooney, an aviator from Butte who was the first to fly mail into Yellowstone National Park in 1935.

Had a Subway Club for lunch and may venture over to La La's a bit later for a salad - the Subway Club sans cheese today is only 640 calories, plus I jogged the two miles, so having a salad should be fine - their dressing is VERY light. I have to buy some of those travel sized toiletries like toothpaste and such.

Is Belinda J Montgomery the same actress as Belinda Montgomery
IMDB: Belinda Montgomery, who sometimes inserted the middle initial "J." into her stage moniker, is a native of Canada, where she began her career on TV in the 1967 series "Barney Boomer" (1967).

These idiots just can't admit they were completely wrong about the tomatoes - they had ZERO evidence and just guessed, thereby causing the tomato growers millions of dollars. These creeps need to apologize and admit their error. They at least now seem to have some proof of the jalapeno thing, or so they say.
But, dear bk, the FDA was NOT completely wrong - they NEVER said tomatoes were to blame, only that they were the leading candidate at the time; they need make NO APOLOGY for they made NO ERROR; if in an abundence of caution consumers elected to avoid tomatoes, so be it. What is it about responsible science reporting you do not understand?

You might want to space them out a bit...throughout the day. ::)
Give the rest of us a chance, at least.

Not that I would be able to think of many (if any) of the names you've posted. :)

Cilla, I am sorry to read about the storm, but grateful it wasn't worse.
Still, it has been years and years since I have seen a newspaper that quotes a citizen, and then lists his actual street address. Incredible!
-
Wow. That was quite a storm. I'm glad you are ok, Cillaliz. Did you and the girls go into the basement?

Holy you-know-what! I think I'll need an extra seat on the plan coming back!
A friend of ours is picking us up at 8:30 p.m. even though we don't leave till midnight. She has to work tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. so dropping us off early is the least we could do for her since she is so kind as to take us in the first place!
4 mores hours till we take off. Just waiting for some last minute things to come out of the dryer and then almost packed. Sis ran to store to grab a few last minute things. Boarding passes in purse and almost rarin' to go! :D

Yeah, good luck with that! I'll tell you what, you pay for the shipping and I'll have them sent to you! ;) I've been told one cookie is 6 oz. so you'll be lucky if you get a half dozen! *lol*

Oh, I found out that because my temp agency pulled me from that job that it is considered a suspension and that I will have to fill out paperwork and fight to get my unemployment reinstated. I'll worry about that when I get home. Just what I needed, huh?

Have a great time in NYC, JulieC40! Take photos!

"Bud" Millman, the late comic character from late night TV. (David Letterman?)
I'm taking this off the list, for reasons given way earlier (specifically, it was Larry "Bud" Mellman, who was a character played by an actor, and the character was always referred to as Larry "Bud" Mellman).
-
Musical director was supposed to be here at three, and still isn't here, with nary a phone call. This guy is really beginning to bug me even more than he usually bugs me.

I can help you with that when you're ready, having been on "the other side" of that many times (i.e., I was the one attempting to deny unemployment benefits on behalf of the temp service).

Good Evening!
I want chocolate.
That is all for this post.

Actually, Levain does ship their cookies - just go to their website - levainbakery.com.
Hmm... A half dozen of those cookies will run $22.50 - they raised their prices a couple months ago to $3.75 per cookie. I guess we'll find out just how much DR JulieC40 likes DR JMK. ;)

Good day HHWers!
Returend home late Saturday and have had company since. I will be semi scarce the next few weeks due to a visit from DBF....
the funeral was nice but difficult
Again, condolences.
Enjoy your visit with DBF, excellent timing.
-
In an article by Jeffrey Steingarten (part of last week's list), originally published in Vogue magazine in June of 2000 and reprinted in It Must've Been Something I Ate,
The FDA has told me that, if mandatory pasteurization [of the raw milk used for making cheese] would save just one life a year, the agency would have no choice but to require it. The FDA says it has no authority to balance the risk from eating a certain food against the benefit or pleasure we might derive from it. (This is what the agency does on a daily basis when considering drugs and medicines and their side effects.)
(Pages 110 - 111 in the book.)
In other words, they're doing their job.
I don't think it's likely for them to make an apology for trying to save people's lives.
Meanwhile, der Brucer is jumping for joy because I won't be force-feeding him jalapenos for a little while. Wuss.
-
Dakota Celt are you just not reading the NOTES? And are you not reading the posts - just about every name you've mentioned has been listed - and the big list appears several times on this board.
Probably not since she just returned from the difficult funeral, and DBF is visiting.
I must admit to skimming the posts today. I hadn't planned to stop by today but Keith saw something interesting running around outside.
-
Oooh, oooh, oooh!!!
It's the jalapenos from Mexico and Texas that are the problem!
If I get any jalapenos at tomorrow's Farmer's Market, they'll be safe because they're local!
(On the other hand, Delaware jalapenos sounds like an oxymoron.)
-
Oh, I found out that because my temp agency pulled me from that job that it is considered a suspension and that I will have to fill out paperwork and fight to get my unemployment reinstated. I'll worry about that when I get home. Just what I needed, huh?
I would be very, very angry at the temp agency. VIBES DEALING WITH THIS!
-
For some reason I'm having a problem posting the photo.
-
Bat Masterson, gunfighter
-
Keith saw a young Blue Tailed Skink at the pond. Not this one since we still don't have a camera.
-
Barry Michaels - Australian boxer
-
Finally!!
-
Betty Madigan. 50's Singer
-
We were early to Keith's eye doctor appointment today (the doctor is very impressed with results of the surgery) and decided to take a drive up into the hills and look at houses.
We saw four stags walking around and one person trying to chase them off of his property.
Sherlock enjoyed seeing the stags as much as we did.
-
Billy Murray - popular reecording artist of the early 20th Century. Larry will remember his duets with Ada Jones
-
Bat Masterson, gunfighter
See page 1. The character and the historical personage count as the same. (Otherwise, we'd have to include a listing for each and every appearance of Masterson in a film or television show... or dime novel, for that matter.)
-
Today DP Colin and I received a card from DD Sherlock and his people. It was very much appreciated.

Not only am I out for another week, my work email revealed to me today that the mother of one of my coworkers died this weekend and another of my coworkers broke her leg.
Vibes, please, for Bonnie and Sue.

Well, that's why I usually don't bother to play.

Nice lizard, Jane. Are they common there?

Actually, someone told me you posted that Mr. Oz. I, of course, would never read your posts.

The alphabetical order is a bit off around Marx.

Brass Monkeys.
OK, it'g got the intials, but what does Brass Monkeys refer to?
-
Vibes for the Monkey and His Brass is my new biographical novel about Herb Alpert and Julius Wechter (well, maybe it should be Marimbas for the Monkey and His Brass).
-
DR Laura, we have loads of lizards here, the skink was a first. I missed out on seeing it.
-
I wonder if DR TCB is still not reading my posts. I am of course ignoring his.
-
The alphabetical order is a bit off around Marx.
Der B and I use an Excell spreadsheat. The data order is automatic, every time we do a data sort, which we do every time we start a new page's listings/right before we post the current list.
-
Obviously an endearing term for Herb and Julius.
-
Thanks for the vibes for my coworkers. They are two of my favorite people in the department, both of whom have been very faithful with encouraging emails during my ordeal.
I have an appointment tomorrow with the foot surgeon - we're going to discuss why my foot is still so swollen.

Does Tomovoz still post here?

I would point out that TCB has email but that would be pointless as he does not read my posts.

Today DP Colin and I received a card from DD Sherlock and his people. It was very much appreciated.
DD Sherlock and his people are pleased it arrived. We are all still heartbroken for you.

Please forgive another photo, but this picture of Magnus as a baby is just too adorable.

If I read TCB posts I would wonder how he has been accessing DR Jane's email. As I have not seen the photograph nor the post this must be just another attempt to add to the number of posts.
Baby Magnus.
(No that does not count. His name was Sir Magnus Pym)
Thank you DR/DF Mr Birkeland.

Tomovoz, I checked my email. You sent the OH SO CUTE photo to both of us. :)

Bob Minor, stunt man extraordinaire!

Oh no! I've sent mail to TCB.

It would quite likely have been his first day here DR Jane.

Still, it has been years and years since I have seen a newspaper that quotes a citizen, and then lists his actual street address. Incredible!
When I went to see "Wall-E," I paid with my debit card. When I got my receipt, it had the balance of my checking account printed on it!! What's that all about?? How did they get the info? That's not right! >:(

We can't possibly have all exhausted our B.M.'s can we?

DR George, that is scary.

DR George, that is scary.

And I'm not talking about the TV show.

More pics sent to DR Jane. I hope I have not accidently sent them to DR TCB again!
Of course if I have done so he may end up reducing their size and posting them here. I have no control over such internet theft etc.

I would like to thank whoever it was that posted the web site for Oldies.com, even though it wasn't the place that people were looking forat that time. I just received a lovely 4-film Basil Rathbone as SHERLOCK HOLMES collection in a Limited Edition wooden box for $6.95.

Well, I'm pooped.

DR TCB are you going to share those photos or shall I?

Someone should tell Tomovoz to be careful what fruit he picks up to take home.
-
Awww. Such sweet puppy photos. They are so fluffy!

I spent nearly 30 years teaching vegetables. I am a good judge.
On the other hand TCB maybe a better judge of fruits.
(I of course did not read his post.)
-
I can help you with that when you're ready, having been on "the other side" of that many times (i.e., I was the one attempting to deny unemployment benefits on behalf of the temp service).
I would REALLY appreciate it. I'll let you know when I get home what happens with it. Hopefullly, it won't be too much of an issue. I will be without unemployment benefits however until it's settled and maybe get "back pay."
-
The puppies when born are like sleek tiny baby seals. they would have been about. Magnus would have been about 7 weeks old in the photograph. Fosca was about three weeks older. They had the same father.
-
I've an early day tomorrow - have to be at the store by six in the morn - so I'd better sign off.
If you're all very good, der B will take over when he's finished with his televiewing.

I don't know if I'll get a chance to get on the internet while I'm there but if not, I'm sure you will all be hearing about this on Monday. Getting home late on Sunday night. Everyone have a great week! :)

I am very excited and happy for Frank and extremely disappointed that I will be out of the country for the duration of the run of the show... I would like to support him however so if any of our NY area DRs (or any of our DRs who will be in the NY area during this time ) would care to go to one of the performances I will be happy to pay for the tickets!

I'll ignore the DRs with an apostrophe! I'm just that sort of guy.

I finished the bonus features on the SHINE A LIGHT DVD. There were four songs cut from the final picture, but my favorite bonus was a 15 minute behind-the-scenes compilation with the Stones rehearsing or just sitting on stage riffing on their guitars without amplification or a screaming crowd. It's the best music on the disc - so pure and hypnotic.
-
You're right, Cillaliz. That microburst we had a couple years ago was probably not as bad as your storm, but I don't care to repeat that again!
But some wind, lightening, and rain would be appreciated.

There sure was. Played by Robert Colbert.

I watched last night's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. Good episode and I love James Frain on THE TUDORS so nice to see him in a completely different role here. Good, quirky episode.
-
French Singer Betty Mars.
-
Next, I opened WILL & GRACE - Season 7 and watched the first 3 episodes. This was the season where Grace left Leo when she found he had cheated on her so the first two episodes involved her in the failed reconciliation and then grieving process. She drove me CRAZY, and I was especially disgusted with Will for letting down his boy friend Vince who wanted Will to meet his boss just because Will had to answer his cell phone every single time needy Grace called during the dinner.
I remember now why many of the episodes during seasons seven and eight were so unbearable; Grace is the most selfish person on earth and Will lets her take total advantage of him.
-
Nice "Closer," very romantic in its quirky way, which was a nice change. What a great show.
Yay! Thanks for tuning in!
BTW, although household ratings used to be measured just by Nielsen families, now you can help improve the ratings of any show you like with your Tivo or other recorder. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I guess the providers keep track of who records what, so whenever anyone records THE CLOSER, it helps our ratings. So even if you don't watch it, but record and erase it the next day, it still helps.
So support your favorite shows!
-
I watched the BONES rerun, and it was another heavily-plotted Gormogon episode. These episodes really creep me out, and this was the worst yet. It also ended with a seat-jumping moment which really made me lose it. And I saw the ORIGINAL broadcast!
-
By the by, isn't there one too many Maverick's on the list? I know about Bret. Was there also really a Brent?
Yes, played by Robert Colbert
der Brucer
MattH beat me to it!

Betsy McCall (http://tpettit.best.vwh.net/dolls/pd_scans/betsy_mccall/index.html), paper doll character that appeared in McCall's magazine, when I was really, really into paper dolls.
OH! I loved Betsy McCall!!!

A RED LETTER DAY!!!

Back from seeing Wall-E, which was very inventive and fun. For the last few weeks, I sure could have used an All-Access Hover Chair!
My DH wanted to go to a store called FYE tonight. I was ready to leave after about 15 minutes, so I whiled away the 2 hours I had to spend there by watching different films that were running, including SHORT CIRCUIT. When my DH finally showed up, I pointed out how much the robot in the movie resembled pictures I'd seen of WALL-E.
As we got in line, I heard a little kid calling out to his Dad, after seeing the same movie: "It's Wall-e!"
Here's the SHORT CIRCUIT ROBOT:
-
I'll ignore the DRs with an apostrophe! I'm just that sort of guy.
Apostrophe? Everyone knows that they are only used in place of a missing letter... what sort of nit wit would put apostrophes in DRs?
::)

Then, I plan to finish FEAR ITSELF from the other night
Good luck - I gave up after 40 minutes.

I'll check tomorrow and see if I recognize it.
Kyra is also on the cover of Redbook looking gorgeous!
I notice she's showing a lot more skin and having more intimate moments with Fritz. I wonder if it's in response to SAVING GRACE?
I have to say that I prefer seeing a scantily clad Kyra to Holly!

For comparison, here's WALL-E:

SPOILER ALERT/WARNING
For any DR who has not yet watched tonight's finale of "Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods", DO NOT go to Playbill.com, Broadwayworld.com, etc., etc., etc.
-
You might want to space them out a bit...throughout the day. ::)
Give the rest of us a chance, at least.
;)
Ditto! ;D
-
Yeah, good luck with that! I'll tell you what, you pay for the shipping and I'll have them sent to you! ;) I've been told one cookie is 6 oz. so you'll be lucky if you get a half dozen! *lol*
Remember the airlines will probably charge extra for those cookies!

I enjoyed THE CLOSER tonight very much. The relationship between Brenda and Lt. Flynn has always been a sharp one but there's mutual respect there, and it's always a pleasure to see.

I cannot believe what cute puppies they were!
Tomovoz, I know you mentioned it before, but what kind of dogs were they?

We haven't had nearly enough B.M.'s today.
TMI! TMI!

I just remembered another B.M.....Barry Mahon, producer and director of such 1960s and 70s hits as CUBAN REBEL GIRLS, DIARY OF KNOCKERS McCALLA, FANNY HILL MEETS LADY CHATTERLEY, GOOD TIMES WITH A BAD GIRL, and THE WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ.
-
Oh my god. They are the cutest puppies in the world! (Apart from DD Sherlock of course!) How long ago was the photo taken?

Good Evening!

Commercial # 2...
This is what Frank's show is about
GALATEA
Dreamhouse Ensemble
Writer: Frank Tangredi
Director: Alex Sol
Present-day New York, "Galatea" weaves together a retired fireman and his wife, with a neurotic, obsessive sculptress. First impressions can be misleading. ?Galatea? is an insightful examination of relationships and commitment, with unexpected, postmodern twists on conventional wisdom.

You're right, Cillaliz. That microburst we had a couple years ago was probably not as bad as your storm, but I don't care to repeat that again!
But some wind, lightening, and rain would be appreciated.
They called ours a derecho....right...

JOHNNY 5!!!
I loved SHORT CIRCUIT

I had a great salad at La La's - just perfect, and their dressing, whatever it is, is really light - I really doubt there's any oil in it at all - it's very thin.

I read this a while back but it was still fun to watch and to know about what happened to the others

I've been watching Evita, which I'd never seen before.

Time for bed. I have Jury Selection starting in the morning, so I will need extra time in the morning to attempt to look marvelous for the jury. I'm really ready for this trial to start. Tonight is the first night it was on the news and of course they got the "facts" wrong already.
There will be a camera in the courtrrom. So, I'm sure we'll make the evening news.

From memory there is no indication in the Evita movie as to who the Che character is!
-
The Oscar song is sort of pointless and giving the "Another suitcase" song to Madonna I guess was only so she could sing something else!
IMHO quite a mess of a movie yet some of the cinematography was good.
I was not really sure the film truly had a "focus". I've not watched it since its release at the cinema though
-
Tim Rice said that "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" really didn't make sense either. (when he wrote it as it was a "Dummy" lyric)
-
From memory there is no indication in the Evita movie as to who the Che character is!
Whether or not he is intended to be Ernesto "Che" Guevara is not plot significant.
der Brucer
-
Yet "Che" is listed in the credits.
It was understandable in the stage production (and more so in the concept album recording) that Che was the "moral" conscience of the movie and the chief critic of the "Climb" of Eva Peron.
-
I doubt the movie really made any sense to the viewers who were not familiar with the stage musical.
I guess it is one of TCB's favourite movies but he won't be reading this post so I guess he won't react.
-
CHE must be one of the most interesting political characters of the 2oth Century. I really liked Motor Cycle Diaries.
-
Before "Gay" was the word, I remember in the UK in 1973 that CHE was very recognisable as a name - and was also the CAMPAIGN FOR HOMOSEXUAL EQUALITY.
-
I can't think of any more BMs.
I was at school with Barry Moore and I taught with Barbara Moore. I don't think either person is known to the general public.

By George - George has arrived.

Bas Meudon is an area in Paris (part of the Seine river).

Agree that the Oscar song was pointless, moving another Suitcase was just dumb, and, yes, the cinematography was quite good (and if you close your eyes, the movie doesn't sound all that bad). A great "movie moment" truely lost. Sad!
der Brucer
I'm hoping for a good cinema treatment of Les Miz (Because it is based on a novel, the screenwriters don't have to stretch to give the plot some more definition, if desired.)
Imagine the great visuals that could be created to accompany Eponine's trip from the house to the barricades while singing On My Own!
-
By George - George has arrived.
By ME, I've got it!
;)
-
Yes it was indeed a great movie moment lost!
One day I'll have the courage to look at "PotO"

I assumed that she sang the song so that no other woman sang in the movie. ::)

The CD of "Marguerite" is due for release. We have booked tickets for the show in London in Sept.

On the original white album studio recording, you never get the impression that he's supposed to be Che Guevara. It seemed that he was just the narrator who happened to be named Che.

Unfortunately, what were dramatic techo-moments on stage are ho-hum when done on film and the score is still the same "one-trick-pony".

I wonder if anyone has considered "Starlight Express" as an animated movie.
Guilty pleasure - I really quite enjoy the score but the original production in London was a total yawn fest!

I don't think one needs to be a Comcast subscriber (I logged out and it worked), but I'm currently...and legitimately...watching next week's as-yet-not-broadcast-on-TV second season premiere episode of "Mad Men," called "Those Who Think Young." Click HERE (http://www.comcast.net/data/fan/html/popup.html?v=796472025) to see it (and to see if it works)!
