Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both NY,NY and LA,LA, and now it is time for you to post until the LA cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: DIADEM!
-
This stinking, stupid excuse for a wireless connection - I managed to get the notes posted twenty minutes ago, but it just took twenty MORE minutes to simply change to discussion to the new one. I really needed to be to sleep twenty minutes ago, not sitting here while this ridiculous wireless connection did everything except do what it's supposed to do. Good night.
-
I'm first after BK - How did that happen?
-
I have been working on my trial for the past few hours. I find I do my best prep work between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM. I think it's just quiet and I've relaxed from the day. I'm really catching up on the prep I didn't have time for during the week. I am going to be so ready to go on Monday morning.
-
I'm first after BK - How did that happen?
Magic! :D
-
Would love to contribute to oh, any old conversation, but my brain is pretty much in a single minded zone right now. I will say one thing. No matter what the outcome of this trial, I am extremely glad I took on this case. It's reignited my love of trial work and all that goes into it and I've regained the confidence I lost working at my previous place of employment.
-
Life is good...think I shall finish the last couple chapters of Kritzer Time and get some sleep.
-
Tonight (Sunday evening, that is), my niece, my sister, her boyfriend and I (hopefully, I'll be well enough to
go attend) are going to a Seattle Storm basketball game. It's the last game before the Olympics. A couple members of the Storm team are part of the American team and one is on the Australian team.
-
Well, I need to be going. Good night, all.
:)
-
With a word of the day like DIADEM, what would ArnoldBrockman have done for the song of the day if he were here?
"Beautiful Girls" is too obvious.
"Send in the Crowns" is too silly.
Something sung by Jewely Andrews?
Maybe something from the musical CROWNS???
Hmm, maybe just somthing that generated royalties?
I'm babbling, time to go to sleep. :)
-
bk, glad that the show went so well. I'm sure those Jersey Men are glad that you were here. And it sounds like Crista is, too!

I keep forgetting about Donald's radio show... :(

Many a blue moon will shine...
Oh, I'm getting a picture, all right! ;)

Before I'm through!

Up till the wee hours, DR Ron Pulliam, or just up to get a drink of water?

Oh, I'm getting a picture, all right! ;)
Don't try to publish it!

Up till the wee hours, DR Ron Pulliam, or just up to get a drink of water?
Just winding down before bedtime. I sat up and watched two -- count 'em 2 -- films: Chariots of Fire and The Big Country.
But my, aren't YOU up early at 4:43 a.m.!!!
Or are YOU just crawling in?
;)
-
Don't try to publish it!
Heaven forfend!
-
Heaven forfend!
Well I should hope so.
-
I get up at 4:00 AM during the week, and on the weekends my body just doesn't adjust. So there it is.
-
I see DearReaderLaura is kicking about, too!
-
I know what let's do!
Let's sing SHOW TUNES!
:D
-
I don't think I'm familiar with The Big Country.
-
OK. You start! :D
-
I get up at 4:0 AM during the week, and on the weekends my body just doesn't adjust. So there it is.
How very inconvenient for you. On the other hand, you could do some work on the side prodding roosters to crow!
PAGE 2[/shadow]
-
We could also toast marshmallows and sing Kum Bah Yah! :D
-
Well, we've got a trio now...
How 'bout "The Surrey With the Fringe On Top"?
-
I don't think I'm familiar with The Big Country.
1958 -- directed by William Wyler -- starring Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Charlton Heston, Carroll Baker, Charles Bickford and Burl Ives -- about feuding cattlemen Ives and Bickford and how their feud affects lives and leads to ruin. Seminal movie score by Jerome Moross.
-
And most appropriate for HHW, since it deals with cows. :)
-
"Chicks and ducks and geese better scurry...
-
I wonder who came up with the phrase "Big Sky Country."
-
"When I take you out in the surrey..."
-
I wonder who came up with the phrase "Big Sky Country."
Someone overwhelmed with how much sky he could see as opposed to the flat lands. The sky can be overwhelming when man's buidlings aren't in the way.
-
"When I take you out in the surry with the fringe on top.
-
DearReaderLaura DR is sitting there like a bump on a log. Hi, DearReaderLaura DR!!! :D
-
"Watch that fringe and see how it flutters"...
-
We could also toast marshmallows and sing Kum Bah Yah! :D
S'mores!
But no "Kum Bah Yah', please. No, nor any "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore."
-
"When I drive them high-steppin' strutters...
-
"Nosey pokes'll peek thru' their shutters and their eyes will pop!
"The wheels are yeller, the upholstery's brown,
The dashboard's genuine leather,
-
Methinks DR Ron Pulliam didn't enjoy summer camp. ;)
-
Oh, great! DearReaderLaura was here, and now she's gone without a word.
I think she must have been sleep-walking!
-
"With isinglass curtains y' can roll right down,
In case there's a change in the weather..."
-
"With isinglass curtains y' can roll right down,
In case there's a change in the weather..."
Oh, well done. You got it!
-
Oh, great! DearReaderLaura was here, and now she's gone without a word.
I think she must have been sleep-walking!
She did the same thing about a half hour ago!!!
She's our very own lady of mystery!
-
"Two bright sidelight's winkin' and blinkin',
Ain't no finer rig I'm a-thinkin'
-
"You c'n keep your rig if you're thinkin' 'at I'd keer to swap
Fer that shiny, little surrey with the fringe on the top!"
-
She did the same thing about a half hour ago!!!
She's our very own lady of mystery!
I wonder if she knows! ;)
-
Where's Dream Curly when you need him?
-
Oh...there you are. I thought you'd fallen asleep on me!
"Would y' say the fringe was made a' silk?
-
"Dream Curly" sounds like some special edition Barbie... I wonder if DR MBarnum knows anything about that?
-
"Wouldn't have n' other kind but silk."
-
"Has it really got a team of snow white horses?
-
(http://cache.eb.com/eb/image?id=102043&rendTypeId=4)
-
"One's like snow,
the others more like milk."
-
"All the world'll fly in a flurry
When I take you out in the surrey,
When I take you out in the surrey with the fringe on top!
PAGE 3[/shadow]
-
I'm gonna have to call it a night.
-
"When we hit that road, hell fer leather,
Cats and dogs'll dance in the heather,
Birds and frogs'll sing all together and the toads will hop!"
-
DR Ron Pulliam - I completely understand! Sweet Dreams.
-
"When we hit that road, hell fer leather,
Cats and dogs'll dance in the heather,
Birds and frogs'll sing all together and the toads will hop!
The wind'll whistle as we rattle along,
The cows'll moo in the clover,
The river will ripple out a whispered song,
And whisper it over and over:
Don't you wisht y'd go on forever?
Don't you wisht y'd go on forever?
Don't you wisht y'd go on forever and ud never stop
In that shiny, little surrey with the fringe on the top!
-
Oh, and The Complete Lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein II will be published this fall.
-
Sweet sunrise, David!
-
:)
-
"I can see the stars gettin' blurry,
When we ride back home in the surrey,
Ridin' slowly home in the surrey with the fringe on top!
I can feel the day gettin' older,
Feel a sleepy head near my shoulder,
Noddin', droopin' close to my shoulder, till it falls kerplop!
The sun is swimmin' on the rim of a hill;
The moon is takin' a header,
And jist as I'm thinkin' all the earth is still,
A lark'll wake up in the medder.
Hush, you bird, my baby's a-sleepin'!
Maybe got a dream worth a-keepin'
Whoa! you team, and jist keep a-creepin' at a slow clip clop.
Don't you hurry with the surrey with the fringe on the top!"
-
Well, time to take Zach for a stroll.
-
It was a very short stroll.
At the first clap of thunder, Zach turned and headed for home.

BK:
Any photos of the boys in concert to share with us?

The six hours worth of exams went well. I feel confident about the first two. The third a reading exam I spent too much time on the first few passages that when it was announced that there was 10 minutes I had two passages left. With no time to read them I went to the questions and looked for the answers by scanning the passages. So I hope that I did well enough.
Since I had some time before the last exam (the dreaded math exam) I quickly went to the car and looked over the flash cards I made. This proved useful as there questions related to the flash cards I crammed with. There were more problem solving questions like: Tom rented a car for $60 a day and $0.32 a mile. He used the care for three days and 343 miles. What city did he visit?
Just kidding. How much did it cost him?
There were some questions I had no idea and took a guess, In past exams there were patterns with the answers like answer B could appear three times in a row. So I tried that as a guess. In all the practice exams I usally did well enough to get a passing grade for the math test.
Not bad for someone who hasn't studied math for over 33 years.
Tomorrow and Tuesday are the job interviews.
-
Interview vibes for DR MS.
-
one of my favorite songs on the Dorothy Provine records is this one, here sung by Ms Fanny Brice. I had never heard it before and haven't heard it since, until today.
I also love a medley of college tunes that includes Doin' The Sigma Chi, Bashful Baby, and Freddy the Freshman.
This is a pretty song that perhaps Mr Guy Haines can record someday:

What television star's album made because he/she was a television star is your favorite?
IE - Miss Dorothy Provine's two Warner Bros. Albums of 20's songs because she happened to play a singer in a speak easy on a Warner Bros series called The Roaring 20's....ie....
-
I think she lives up in DR MBARNUM'S Great Neck of the Woods now:
-
Glad to have the positive show report and the audience reaction information!
-
DR Laura - thanks for checking out that Phantom info.
So far, i've gotten tickets to Cirque du Soleil's LOVE early show and also for PHANTOM's late show for Monday the 18th, and for Cirque du Soleil's KA for Tuesday the 19th.

Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day. I am up.
-
It looks overcast outside. I'm hoping the sun breaks through or that it stays the same until I'm on my way to LA.
-
I'm really not sure if I have a jog in me - we shall see. Certainly, I'd begin it by going south rather than north, should I suddenly feel up to it.
-
Sounds like you'll have a good time, FJL. Don't forget your camera for the carpet photos.

Since I will be working tomorrow, I will not be scorekeeping the Name Game.
Any and all scorekeeping will have to be done by der Brucer, between naps, mainly because none of the doggies can be bothered with learning how to work a spreadsheet.
That's the problem with dogs - they're just not computer literate.

Great travel and vacation days, DR FJL, astrologically speaking.

Clearly, if dogs are going to become computer literate, we need an Internet that smells.

Dorothy Provine was/is best friends with a woman whose husband worked for my Dad back in the 1960s. This family was popping out a kid a year for the whole time they lived in SLC and I used to go over to their house and swim (the husband had been on the 1956 US Olympic Swim Team, IIRC--if 1956 was a summer year, LOL). I remember M.A. (the wife-slash-friend of Provine's) took us to see "Good Neighbor Sam" just because Provine was in it.
-
I need a vacation. These forty-four/forty-six hour workweeks are getting to me. :P
Of course, we can't afford for me to go on vacation. And the store can't afford for me to go on vacation.
:P :P
What I really need is some good putz time. Maybe on Tuesday (my only day off this week) der B and I can head into town, I can park him somewhere, and I can wander around aimlessly, just to enjoy myself.
-
BABBLES, BUNGLES & BIDS - that should be the title of something, shouldn't it?
-
yes DR GINNY - the World of Wisdom is a destination retailer!
DR JMK - back in the old days, the Winter AND Summer Olympics were held the same year..... So 1956 was an Olympic Year.....
Exactly how does one become best friends with Dorothy Provine, I wonder?

Good morning, all! The dog in the apartment above me began barking at 12:30 am and stopped some time later than the note I left on the tenant's door at 1 am. If this begins to be a common occurrence, I will send emails to the apartment management as well. I'm puzzled by the whole megillah since the dog's been really qiuiet for the past 6 months, and suddenly he's making noises. I know part of it is his owner's late night socializing - he wasn't in till about 4 - but this old coot needs whatever sleep he can get.
Then, I finally got to sleep and had a very bizarre dream which began in a bookstore, and I rcommended a book, which was sort of a cavalcade of friends in the late 60s wo had moved to New York, whose lives changed as they met other friends, changed lifestyles and occupations, onle lady had a baby by someone other than her partner, some left Manhattan for communal living; anyway, I was suddenly inside this story, and I was one of the characters whose lives outside Manhattan - by the ocean as I recall - didn'nt work and it was back to Manhattan, I was woring on a film score at Town Hall, I believe, with an unhappy singer etc.
I awoke from this thing thoroughly rattled by it all, around 4 am, feelng a great sense of loss or a similar emotion, and spent 5 minutes or so weeping uncontrollably.
This morning, laundry for the bedding wrapped in mothballs and some work on the BABRS IN TOYLAND info from the LoC.
BK, I'm happy the show went well for you, Kevin, and Sean. Here are some travel vibes to send you back to LA:[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]

DR JRand 57, I loved every album Miss Provine made and I wish that someone would release them on CD!
-
Jrand - Thanks for the travel prognostication. I guess I'll confirm and pay for my flights now, then.
-
:)
-
JR--IIRC, M.A. (the wife/friend) had gone to college with Provine and I think they were roommates in their sorority--but this is all coming from the dim vestiges of my very young (like maybe 5 year old) memory. I know they were still very close circa early-mid 60s when the family was in SLC.
-
JMK, did the song get changed?

I'm not a huge fan of westerns, but there are a few that I liked and this is one of them. Heston gives one of the best performances of his career (I'm not a fan of his usually), and everyone is just wonderful.
Ives won an Oscar for his performance (though I think his Big Daddy in CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF probably helped him win that year).

And I just loved her song and comedy sequence in THE GREAT RACE.
The other day when we were discussing slapstick comedies, I never responded on the topic of the day, but THE GREAT RACE would certainly be among my favorites.
-
Good morning!
Began with some overcast this morning here, but that's now cleared away, and we're on our way to a high of 90. Ugh!
-
I did take the two-mile jog, and now I must shower and pack up the computer and other stuff and wait downstairs for the car to pick me up at eleven. The sun peeked out for about three minutes while I was jogging - keep the excellent vibes and xylophones for the weather to hold and be nice. See you all when I'm back in LA.
-
My boss suggested that I not take the time to review the remaining Paramount barebones reissues they sent me and to move on to other stuff, but I decided I'd take a day for myself since that frees me from watching four movies this week.
The next DVD I'll review will be the PBS offering on the early adulthood of Muhammad Ali in Miami.
-
Color me surprised that Miss Dorothy - great scott that Miss Dorothy - had seen the inside of an institution of higher learning.

On TV tonight:
the season two premiere of MAD MEN on AMC.
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT on USA
IN PLAIN SIGHT on USA.
-
I have the MONK episode that I started last night to watch during lunch today.
This afternoon, I'll likely watch NANCY DREW on the DVR recorded from HBO-HD.
If PATRIOT GAMES recorded from Universal-HD, I'll watch that, too, though it wasn't on the DVR playlist when I looked yesterday. I may have forgotten to set the DVR for it, so I'll have to search for it again. Universal-HD often replays these HD movies multiple times. I just wish they didn't have commercials.

I liked it very much. I owned all of her recordings. The arrangements on the 1920s records were the real stock arrangements published for sale by Harms and Witmark, two of the publishers Warner Brothers Music purchased in 1929.

Thanks. I'll just be tired today. Nothing else to complain about.

FJL, I believe that Anthony Crivello is the only PHANTOM currently in Las Vegas. He does all eight performances a week.

I believe that is what George needs for his current... uh, problem.
-
On tv tonight for me:
BIG BROTHER.
And I'm sure i won't be happy but the 1st part of the season finale of HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA.
Apparently the girl that placed first last week will be safe. And the other 2 will compete in a sing-off before voting even starts. I am not happy about this. Because there was something wrong with my favorite's phone line last week, and we know for sure she was in the B2 (i had tried calling between 9-10:30pm and i read others report that there was a big problem with her line).
We don't have IN PLAIN SIGHT on tonight (tues). But i actually sort of like it. The stories are interesting.
Thanks for the heads up the NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR ends tonight. We are only at episode 4 or so. So i shall be on the lookout for spoilers in the media (assuming anyone covers it!).

I liked it very much. I owned all of her recordings. The arrangements on the 1920s records were the real stock arrangements published for sale by Harms and Witmark, two of the publishers Warner Brothers Music purchased in 1929.
Yes, Dorothy Provine was a firecracker on network television in "The Roaring 20s". I was always under the impression she was very popular because her albums were often prominently featured in a section of local record stores. Since Warner Brothers had a rather "newish" label (3 years old in 1960), the studio used it generously to promote its own talent, including its first release by Tab Hunter.

As for "The Next Food Network Star"....
I've finally caught up on this season over the past few days due to the rebroadcast/repeats, and I have to say that none of the finalists really appeal to me all the much. And, frankly, I'm surprised that one of them made it past the second week - that contestant has absolutely no "TV-Q" or true, natural charisma to me. Fake, fake, fake, fake.
-
-And just what has happened to the past winners of "The Next Food Network Star"? -Besides Guy Fieri.
It's always interesting how the Food Network starts running a couple of new shows with new hosts at the same time they start the search for the "next one".
-
As for "scorekeeping" for tomorrow's Initials Game/Listing/etc...
As long as we all read each and every post, we should have minimal problems with duplications.

Jose, or Laura, TCB or other Vegas-travel-knowledgeable folk - do you know anything about Vegas hotels? We're looking at a portion of the Mandalay Bay Hotel that is called (drum roll) THEhotel at the Mandalay Bay. They've got great weeknight deals (although pricey on weekends, but I'll be going Sun-Wed only anyway) and we love the location. Here's the description. It's a bit daunting in terms of whether my family will measure up to the described sophistication level, but the rooms are quite a deal and the "suites" an amazing deal on weeknights:

THEhotel at Mandalay Bay ushers in a new model of understated luxury, affording guests a haven of sophistication and service on par with the best boutique hotels in the world. Its elegantly appointed suites and stylish lobby areas set a tone of confident discretion, while its carefully tailored roster of amenities provide an unparalleled atmosphere for attending to both business and pleasure.

Although I wasn't much of an expert on TV quality back in the late 50's and early 60's, I loved THE ROARING TWENTIES. I also liked (although apparently no one else did) the Twenties-based sitcom MARGIE starring Cynthia Pepper.
-
Has anyone here actually stayed at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay or spoken with people who have? I'm wondering if we'd be more "comfortable" at the plain old Mandalay Bay.

As for "scorekeeping" for tomorrow's Initials Game/Listing/etc...
As long as we all read each and every post, we should have minimal problems with duplications.

Hello, everyone.
First thing this morning I threw on old jeans and an old tee-shirt and went out to the garden. We've had loads of rain--good for the plants, but too many weed! Of course, my Neighbor Who Does Nothing doesn't prune at all, so I always end up pruning some of his spillage. My neighbors on the other side are doing more remodeling (why??) and their contractor left a load of trash behind my fence. Normally, I wouldn't even notice it, but of course today was the day I was pruning and I couldn't reach much of my fence due to his trash. I'm glad I got it done, but we now have BIG BOOMERS and it sounds like we'll get another deluge.

Actually, Fred, I have never even set foot in Mandalay Bay. It is as far south as you can go and still be on The Strip. As for THEHotel at Mandalay Bay (with apologies to Groucho) do you really want to stay at a place that would allow guests like you?
-
Good Afternoon!
Dishes are washed. Kitchen counters are cleaned. At least those are done.
-
DR FJL - I've never been the Mandalay Bay, however... From what I understand "The Hotel" part is basically just that "The Hotel". It's mainly rooms, as opposed to rooms, buffets, casinos, shops, etc.
Have you checked the ratings on Frommers.com?

Re: WB Records. As I have posted here before, the nascent WB label tried to woo Percy Faith away from Columbia, offering to make him equivalent to Mitch Miller at Columbia, plus they'd throw in several films that he could score as a sort of bonus. One of the films in the job offer was "A Summer Place." Percy of course declined, Steiner went on to score the film, Percy arranged it and had the biggest hit of his career and one of the best selling singles in American pop history.

I just got home and Betsy and Zach were working on the Wil Shortz puzzle from this week's All Things Considered. They had been working on it for quite some time. I solved it in about 3 seconds. Why do Betsy and Zach hate me so much? ;)
-
Fred, just take into account, that in August you are not going to be walking anywhere because of the heat. What are your main reasons to go to Vegas and where in Vegas to you plan on spending most of the time? Personally, I enjoyed The Famingo Hotel, not so much for its bordello rooms
(http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u271/actr2000/QueerEye.jpg)
(yes that is the bathroom in pink), but because it was right in the center of The Strip.

"The rather silly nomenclature of this utterly fabulous Vegas accommodation reminds us of our previous consideration regarding the Four Seasons' relationship with Mandalay Bay (located on the top floors but operated as a separate entity) -- it's part of the hotel but not precisely the hotel. In this case, this really is THEhotel, in all senses, not the least of which is that even though we were quite fond of Mandalay Bay prior to the opening of this conjoined twin of a property, we now think of it, if we do at all, rather as the frowzy sister from the sticks who looks tawdry and rumpled next to its sleek Vogue-magazine-editor sibling. (Actually, we still like Mandalay Bay a great deal.) Yes, if Prada were a hotel, it would look something like THEhotel. Certainly, if there are Prada wearers in town, we bet they are going to be staying here."

There is also this final statement from Frommers, "This is the place we would splash out on (and certainly would leap on any specials offered), but with the understanding that it's still, despite appearances, a Vegas hotel, though very likely the best there is."
-
They like the Mandalay Bay location in part because we're fairly sure the only rushed, hectic parts of the trip will be getting to and from the airport, and we like the proximity to the airport. We're expecting all other getting around to be leisurely by comparison. And I don't drive but as a group we'll have a car, so that will help in getting around.
But something seems a little hoidy-toidy about THEhotel, or at least the image they're trying to convey, even though it's really not expensive on weeknights - I know I'm comparing it to a different market, but it's certainly cheaper than the typical (non-budget) of the Disney World hotels, for example.
But i did like the Washington DC Ritz Carlton a lot, though they went out of their way not to have the negative snooty aspects of upscale there.
-
My brother and family are committed to staying at THEhotel, and he'll have the car :) - so my only real decision is just whether to stay at THEhotel or otherwise in the regular Mandalay Bay

The true test of any hotel is to walk into the middle of the lobby and fart. If the staff all turn and point at you - you are in the wrong hotel!

I've walked into the middle of a fart, but never into the middle of a lobby. What's that like?

Well, here I am at JFK, where I have been since 11:00. When I arrived my flight was already delayed twenty minutes. While I looked at the departure board that turned into forty-five minutes. Then we were told that our plane, which was coming from Tampa would be on the ground at one-thirty and we'd be out of here at 2:15. At one-thirty we were told that our plane was, in fact, here, but circling - for another hour. We'd had a little rain and thunderstorm that lasted approximately thirty minutes - by 1:30 it was completely over and the ground was already dry. At two o'clock we were told that our plane had now been diverted to Atlantic City, New Jersey, so it could refuel - with no new estimated time of departure. A lot of very angry people here - I overheard that JFK was not letting planes in or out. I really think a class action lawsuit against this airport is in order - no other airport in the bloody United States has these problems.
I went and got a sandwich (terrible) and a Diet Pepsi (equally terrible) and was finally able to get online in the food court here. So, I have no clew as to what will happen - you can't even get through to JetBlue via telephone. I really don't want to come back into the city and then come back out here tomorrow. I have no idea if the four-thirty to Burbank is sold out or what, or if there's a later flight. I also don't really want to spend the night here at JFK. It's a mess, and there's no storm, no rain, no nothing. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that I'll get out here.
-
For the record, I joked above, but I loved loved loved the Rio Hotel - just didn't like its location a shlep off the Strip.
-
Everything that went into mothball storage in January is now laundered, so that's a big relief. I've also updated my main report of BABES IN TOYLAND with my new LOC info, and I'm ready for a nap.
Earlier, when I was running to and from the laundromat, I passed a lot of folk heading to Central Park for the day. I hope they're having a good time. I'm happy being inside with air conditioning.
I think I will run out and visit the market.

I'm up and feeling much, much, MUCH (that's three muches) better. :D I've decided to go to the basketball game with the family. I need to take a shower now and then meet at my sister's house. They want to go to Fry's Electronics and Ikea before the game (which doesn't start until 6:00 pm), so I need to be there at noon...in 10 minutes! I can be a little late, so I will. ;)
Anyway, have a good day, all! And:

DR FJL - I've found that a lot of those snooty and high-end descriptions are provided for people who want that type of "experience". Otherwise, it's just a very nice hotel stay to others. So, as long as you and your relatives aren't calling the concierge every five minutes, and asking for the linens to be changed twice a day, you should be fine.
-
bk - BREATHE!
*And traffic delays happen at all airports. Not just JFK. Trust me. You could be stuck at O'Hare in Chicago overnight because you didn't make it in time to catch the last(!) connecting flight to your final destination. And then there's Atlanta... OY!
**However, there is a Bliss Spa at JFK, so... You could go get a massage if there is an open appointment.
-
bk - Can you at least get on to jetblue.com?
-And I'm guessing you're waiting in the main JetBlue terminal, and not the "new" one that's under construction. -However, the new one tends to be quieter.
-
-And after looking at the Weather map... Well, let's just say there's lots of it out there right now all around the country.
-
bk - Can they put you on a flight back to Long Beach? It looks like the 3:55 is still on time.
-Alas, both last flights out today to Long Beach and Burbank have been Cancelled. :-\

Very scary weather going on around the heart of the country.
-
TCB and Jose - Sounds like THEreasonable thing to do hotel-wise.

Don't blame the airport - take offs and landings are controlled by the FAA (and class-action suits against a US Government Agency are non-starters). Regardless of what you have seen, the entire area has been under major storm advisories most of the day.
Present Jet Blue status: Take off 3:45 - arrive CA 6:47

Had a nice afternoon of pure pleasure viewing.
I began with Friday night's MONK, and it was a decent episode for a change. Interesting mystery, good main guest star, and Tony Shalhoub less mannered than usual.
-
Next, I watched a bunch of WILL & GRACE episodes. Lots of guest stars crowded into these episodes, one of the true maladies of W&G paraticularly during the last years. Mediocre writing is not helped by putting famous people into roles if there are no jokes for them.
Luke Perry played the Hot Gay Nerd (a bird watcher) in one episode. He was kind of cute.
-
Sharon Stone was the guest star in another one playing Will's new psychiatrist who gives him a hard time. Grace starts going, and the two get along like gangbusters. One of the lamer episodes of its eight year run.
-
One of the best episodes of the season, however, guest starred the ever-adorable Stuart Townsend as Karen's Pastry Chef whom she wants fired. However, when Will goes to fire him, well, more than pastry starts cooking.
Later in the show we find out he's also involved with Karen and Rosario, an all-purpose lover.
-
I also found the episode where Will is seated by the fire in a swanky restaurant with innumerable jokes about how hot it is really hilarious. The rest of the episode is lacking, but those sight gags and puns are hilarious.
-
I ended the afternoon watching NANCY DREW on HBO-HD. A very wrongheaded movie. Why make Nancy a 1950s icon living in the 21st century? Were they trying to tap into the motif of the BRADY BUNCH movies? Nancy doesn't deserve that kind of treatment. I liked the casting of Nancy, Carson, and Ned. They would have been fine in a period whodunit or updated to now. But this concoction really wasn't very pleasing. And all the guest stars? Why is Bruce Willis there? And Chris Kattan?
No wonder it flopped at the box-office.
-
I noticed that THE WIZARD OF OZ is being shown on TNT-HD tonight at 8 (Also immediately following the first broadcast).
This isn't the first time they've shown it in HD, but it'll be the first time I've ever seen it broadcast as such. Looking forward to seeing it. Just sorry I'll have to suffer through the commercials.

I'm cheering for Aaron, but I'm not really sure why. I agree that none of them really appeal to me either.

I haven't been to THEhotel, but I've stayed at a lot of places that have descriptions like this when I've gone to meetings in various parts of the country. I agree with Jose, it's usually just a nice hotel that has amenities available but I don't usually use them. You're going to Vegas in the summer on a week night. That will be cheap. Hello to one and all and all and one. Does anyone have a powersaw and would be willling to cut off the bright purple cast from my leg? I've just about had it with this, and there are 3 weeks to go.
This discouragement WILL pass, but that is my mood at the moment.
-
Oh my gosh i am so tired.
My 2 year old niece stayed over for the first time overnight without her mommy. She has stayed before with her mom. And I do see her 4 times a week. But we were not sure how she would do.
Well she loved it. And did not cry. In fact she did not want to leave (although she was asking for her mom to come for breakfast by 7am).
She decided she wanted to sleep in my waterbed. Which was fine. She fell asleep by 9:30pm. The problem was i did not sleep well. And it wasn't really because of her (because we did take a nap together this afternoon).
But i sort of dozed off from 10pm-2am. And i was totally awake from 2am till 6am. At 3am i found her on top of me and she asked if we could sleep together under the covers. Then at 3:40am she decided to go sleep in another room (where she usually takes her naps). So i guess maybe i was just worried she would get up and in a daze decide to go down some stairs! But she did not. only thing is she decided to get up at 6am.
She watched (in my bed) hi-5, strawberry shortcake and later curious george. And now she is home!

FJL, I only go into the fancy hotels to take photos of their stuff. I could never afford to stay in any of them.
Those big hotels are HUGE and take about a half hour of walking to get from your room to the street. The entire Strip is close to the airport. At Mandalay Bay, the planes will be almost going by your window.

I never stay in the room much anyway, so as long as it has a clean bed and is in a safe location, I'm ok with it.

Sunday evening greetings! Whew - I've had a full day. Rode to Cincinnati with DH Richard and dropped him off at church. Then I drove on down to UC and picked up DS Rob, took him to Starbucks, and we were back in time for the 11:30 service. After church, we drove by a church building that's for sale, went to lunch, then went shopping at Kenwood Towne Center. I now have 2 new pairs of Ecco sandals on which I can fasten all 3 straps. We took Rob back to his apartment, stopped for gas for my car, and came home to crash.
All this while BK was trying to get out of NYC - hope that's on track now.

DR elmore - You can always do what my friend, Nick, does every time he drops/drowns/demolishes/loses/washes/etc. his cell phone... Just send out an e-mail and/or put a message on Facebook/MySpace to have all your friends call and/or e-mail you with their contact info.
-
well, $#&%!!! *$#**!!! @#$$!!!
I was talking on my cell to DR FJL when I tried to pour a pan of pasta into a colander. My cell phone fell into the pan and demolished itself. I'm now back from Verizon with a new cell phone, and now I have to rebuild my contact list. Oy!
Oh, how frustrating. Good luck duplicating your contact list.
-
DR Ginny, it sounds like you are ready for your first day back to work. Have a good one & enjoy your new shoes.

What a great idea! I called but it was a short one as he is on the phone with someone else.

Jet Blue website says estimated departure of flight 355 is 7:25 PM and arrival is 10:27 PM.
Vibes to Bruce. I've had delays like that, but it's been years. I still remember it way to well
-
DR Elmore - Richard said to tell you about the cell phone that he dropped into the toilet. He says it's a "function of age" - and that you would love hearing that.
-
At least Bruce doesn't have a connection to make.
-
DR Ginny I have come close to doing that, a very scary thought. I dare not ask where DH Richard was at the time.

My guess is he was in the bathroom ;D

Keith has his second cataract surgery tomorrow. I should do some cleaning and make sure there isn't dog hair floating around. Keith already vacuumed.

My guess is he was in the bathroom ;D

And he got a new cell phone.

I remember when I got my last cellphone, the salesperson's first and main reason for buying the cellphone insurance was "just in case you drop it in the toilet or urinal". I guess that happens a lot. Thankfully, not to me.
-
Thank you DR's Ginny & Singdaw.
Keith is really hoping the vision in both eyes is the same. Since I watched the first surgery he has requested I watch the second. I was more than willing to skip this time. ;D The surgery is interesting, I was just very tense knowing it was Keith's eye & I was watching it LIVE.
-
Yep... As I'm continuing to re-watch the past episodes of "The Next Food Network Star"... Yep, they all suck.
;)

;D I've learned to shove it deep into my pocket or move it into my purse. It's not like I plan on answering the phone while I'm in there. The odd thing is how many people chat away while using public bathrooms. From Keith's observation's I believe men do this far more than woman.
-
;D The things we talk about here.
-
Well, I do hope that bk is in the air by now. -I just heard from two friends who are heading back into the city right now due to their flights being cancelled.
-
I just ran out of printer paper.
I hate it when that happens! It feels like I brought home a whole case from Staples not that long ago.
-

DR Elmore - Richard said to tell you about the cell phone that he dropped into the toilet. He says it's a "function of age" - and that you would love hearing that.
Yes, but Richard's crazy and old. My mental health is much better. That should put a bunch in his panties!
-
bk is going to be tired and cranky when he finally gets home! :( What a day.
-
I'm so glad Ioana flew from Bucharest to NY, to Pittsburgh on Friday and not today.
-
Dear Nursie, I'm sorry I was on another call! It was loverly to hear your voice. I owe you a long phone call this week.
-
I just hope bk still got his bulkhead seat. Although, something tells he me he did regardless of whether one was available or not. ;)
-
bk is going to be tired and cranky when he finally gets home! :( What a day.
So true, yet on days like today I am very grateful to be one of the lucky ones who make it home. Wishing the same for Bruce, and a nice flight once he is in the air.
-
I am happy t learn that all my vital statistics and phone message have been successfully transferred to my new phone. Now If I could only find a ringing sound I liked . . .
-
DR elmore, did my phone number register so you could save it in your contact list?
-

bk is going to be tired and cranky when he finally gets home! :( What a day.
I just hope he eats on the plane - even if he just has a couple of bags of peanuts and some of those cheese-crackers. -Although, my favorites are the mini-chocolate-chip-cookies.
At least they offer Diet Coke as part of their beverage service.
-
I can't remember ever having mini-chocolate chip cookies. Bruce should have had plenty of time to get something at the airport. If there was something to be had. I've been stuck in airports where there weren't any vegetarian choices except stuff that would make me sick. When that happens I buy slices of turkey, if I'm lucky enough to find them.

The JetBlue terminal at JFK has decent food choices, and their "take and fly" food counters are priced surprisingly reasonably. And with "The Grove" stands, there are some vegetarian selections - well, at least fruit smoothies and juices, and trail mix.
-
I can't drink a lot of juice or eat trail mix. A small yogurt fruit smoothie would be ok, even sounds good. If only JetBlue came to Medford.

I'm just wondering - and hoping - they didn't put everyone on the plane and then have them sit on the tarmac for the past couple of hours.
-
Surgery vibes to Keith! Please keep us posted!

I'm just wondering - and hoping - they didn't put everyone on the plane and then have them sit on the tarmac for the past couple of hours.
No, they are still not on the plane - the plane is there, and so is the crew, and the bags are loaded - but there is no pilot! I won't talk about it too much, since I'm sure it will all be in the notes.

Hmm... I would have saved myself the frustration factor and headed back into the city.
*And I'm guessing the pilot was supposed to come from one of the inbound flights that got cancelled.

So... Since I'm not watching "Big Brother"...
This "High School Musical" program on ABC is quite interesting. It's kind of cool - and encouraging - seeing how the judges and the auditionees handle the No's. Very positive all around.

I keep thinking the same thing. One stormy winter in Detroit they let us off the plane until it was time to board again-so very, very nice of them.
I had the pleasure of going to a business convention with Keith. There was a big snow storm & the driver was late picking me up (thank goodness I wasn't driving). It was also the night of the Detroit Car Show & traffic was horrendous. I would have missed my flight if it hadn't been delayed. This was before we had cell phones (only car phones) & poor Keith was waiting anxiously at the airport for me.

How can Jet Blue say that the actual estimated arrival time for Flight 355 is now 7:17 p.m.? That plane hasn't even departed yet, and it is going on 6:00 p.m. Is Jet Blue using the old SST planes?

How can Jet Blue say that the actual estimated arrival time for Flight 355 is now 7:17 p.m.? That lane hasn't even departed yet, and it is going on 6:00 p.m. Is Jet Blue using the old SST planes?
What?
-
Well... At least it's listed as "Boarding" now. Flight 355, that is.
-
Estimated departure is 8:50PM.
Estimated arrival is 11:51PM
-
What?
By the time that plane takes off, it will be 6:00 pm. I don't think a plane can make to Burbank in an hour and 17 minutes. Can it?
-
DR TCB, you were reading an earlier post, prior to the current time schedule. And that was estimated departure, not arrival.
-
Estimated departure is 8:50PM.
Estimated arrival is 11:51PM
Okay, now it has updated to 11:51 pm. It was saying 7:17 up to a few moments ago.
-
DR TCB, you were reading an earlier post, prior to the current time schedule. And that was estimated departure, not arrival.
No, Jane, I was reading what Jet Blue had on the computer as the arrival time in Burbank. It has now been corrected.
-
DR TCB, I thought you were reading an earlier post. I have no idea where you saw that time on JetBlue's sight. There must have been a brief glitch.
-

Well, probably the same place you were looking.

The other day when I was tracking Ioana's flight the satellite map showed the plane approaching NY, then for several minutes it showed her plane back over the ocean with 4 hours of traveling time left. I punched the info again and her plane was landing at the airport.
-
I remember when I got my last cellphone, the salesperson's first and main reason for buying the cellphone insurance was "just in case you drop it in the toilet or urinal". I guess that happens a lot. Thankfully, not to me.
I've heard of not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time, but not being able to talk and ... uh, well, this is a family site. ::)
-
Departure is now 9:05

Well, probably the same place you were looking.
http://www.jetblue.com/flightstatus/FlightStatusSched.aspx
I go in from http://jetblue.com It takes me to a slightly different page than yours.
-
Hmm.. I'm guessing JetBlue's site must be a little "busy" right now. I just checked the flight status for BK's flight a couple of time over the past few minutes. It changed each time I refreshed the window. Sometimes for the better (sooner), sometimes for the worse (later). Now it's giving an estimated departure of 9:05pm (EST) and an arrival time of 12:05am (PST). Well... I hope he can at least sleep a while on the plane.
-
If only we could spread some of that weather out over other parts of the country -- like Arizona, for example. We would welcome some rain.
-
DR elmore, did my phone number register so you could save it in your contact list?
Yes, Nursie! And I've begun the tedium of collecting everybody else. The emails are out and the numbers are rolling in.
-
I go in from http://jetblue.com It takes me to a slightly different page than yours.
That is exactly the same place I went, Jane, and then I clicked on Tracking A Flight, which took me to the other page that I posted. I was saving you a step.

It only took me 19 months on how to get the most out of the old cell. I am in trouble by my calculations. I can find nothing, nada, zip on this new one!
-
Earlier today, I posted travel vibes for BK.
Obviously, they didn't work.
Either that, or I'm a jinx.
I'm not going to post travel vibes again.
For anyone.
Ever.
Unless I want to jinx them. ;D

Well, according the JetBlue's site, bk's flight departed at 9:03pm, so... Maybe there was some sort of time delay/warp.

Hmmm... Although, it's showing him arriving at 7:17pm now. I guess they caught a good air current. ;)

Now 11:48pm.
-
Don't we Hainsies and Kimlets know how to have fun? ;)
-
So... I was thinking that for a future Initials Monday, maybe "we" could pick the initials. The first DR to post after bk picks one initial, and the second DR picks the second initial.
*Of course, we'd probably end up having to search for names beginning with "Q. X.", "X. Q.", "X. Z.", etc., etc., etc.
-
Attention Everyone!
Tomorrow's notes will be going up a bit late tonight. So feel free to begin thinking of your own set of initials for the game.

Well, JetBlue and the FAA - and Mother Nature - likes you.
;D
-
DR Ginny, it sounds like you are ready for your first day back to work. Have a good one & enjoy your new shoes.
Thanks, DR Jane! Richard is concerned about my stamina for a 5-day work week, but it's a quiet one - no meetings, no programs, etc.
And, remember my co-worker who broke her leg last weekend? She's coming back tomorrow, too, in a cast that sounds a lot like DR Kerry's. I figured if she can do it, so can I. By the way, she broke her leg getting off a Segway.
-
We have been thinking about doing a Segway tour of Jacksonville. Friends went and said it was fun. They also said first time users are not given a key to work the higher speeds. I never thought about falling while getting on and off when it was stopped.
I agree with Richard, take it easy at work.
-
Attention Everyone!
Tomorrow's notes will be going up a bit late tonight. So feel free to begin thinking of your own set of initials for the game.
And the notes are bound to be filled with Jet Blue language!!!
-
DR Jane - this was my friend's second Segway adventure. She said the first time, the guide held the Segway for each rider as they got on and off. Last week, in a different city, the guide didn't do that and my friend even thinks that the Segway might have run over her leg.
Thanks for the work vibes. Not only is my calendar clear, the manager will be at a conference all week and the assistant manager's position has been vacant since the end of June. And I'm taking chocolate treats to thank my coworkers for the cards, emails, and phone calls, and for putting up with my demanding nonprofit constituents.
-
Well, JetBlue and the FAA - and Mother Nature - likes you.

How 'bout USAirways?

While re-watching the Doctor Who season finale, part one, I also stopped to watch the promo for Eureka, which aired during the second commercial break. That's the ad where Colin Ferguson and the rest of the returning regular cast do a marvelous song and dance based on the Mr. Roger's "It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" song.
Conspicuous in his absence is Matt Frewer.
And, checking the Sci-Fi Channel's website, he's just as conspicuous over there, too.
Just as well. I thought his character was a bit boring.
-
I agree he was somewhat boring.
-
I'm not riding a Segway if it doesn't have a break.
-
I'm not riding a Segway because I really don't need to be any taller.
;D
-
I've got to get dinner on the table. A simple salad, with leftover chicken.
I'll check in tomorrow morning, before going to work.
But I'm not scorekeeping.
-
Out of Eureka's 32 episodes Matt Frewer has only been in 13 of them.

Although Adam's concept did sound a little close to the new "Ask Aida" show to be ready for next week.

And one for Bruce getting home with no more stress

I'm relieved to know Bruce isn't sitting on the plane. Do you know where the pilot is?
He heard BK was a passenger and was gaining courage at the bar :)
der Brucer
-
Well, I feel somewhat guilty with so many people having the vapors over Bruce's departure and arrival times, and I was sitting in my den oblivious to it all watching some marvelous things.
Can we just say his plane is running later than originally scheduled?
-
I began my evening watching one of my favorite Norma Shearer movies - A FREE SOUL. Of course, Lionel Barrymore won the Oscar for this, but I think it's Shearer's movie, and she DOES have solo star billing.
Clark Gable plays a racketeer in this, and he's GREAT playing bad, rough guys. When he became a star, he began to plays rascals, but here he's really rough, and he's electric.
-
I had about 50 minutes before the start of THE WIZARD OF OZ on TNT-HD, so I put in the season 1 episode of THE CLOSER that introduced Bill Croelick (Jason O'Mara). Such a mesmerizing performance, and the two of them together are just terrific. In their first interrogation scene when she shakes hands with him and they stare into each other's eyes, WOW!
-
hope he can at least sleep a while on the plane.
A plane full of parents with cranky kids who have been waiting in the airport for 8 hours or so? I'm sure the flight will be restful for all.
der Brucer
-
I watched THE WIZARD OF OZ in HD on TNT-HD, the first time I've watched it on commercial TV in decades. The HD was variable. In some scenes, it really popped. In others, there wasn't much different from seeing it upconverted from sDVD on my equipment. The poppy field and the Haunted Forest sequences were really impressive in HD. And Margaret Hamilton's close-ups were VERY impressive in HD, that green makeup really standing out.
-
I had to laugh out loud a couple of times during WIZARD when a crawler would come on the bottom of the screen advertising THE CLOSER. Kyra appears on the screen, reaches in her famous black purse and pulls out a cookie and eats it. Terrific!
-
With a flight to LGA booked for one month from today for Richard and myself, all of BK's difficulties are making me very nervous.
You should have little difficulty getting there.
Getting back is another story ;D
der Brucer
-
And then I watched tonight's premiere of MAD MEN. Not the most mesmerizing episode certainly, but good getting everyone back in the game. Surprised Don's wife did what she did. This is a women REALLY in need of therapy. If she's still going to the doctor she was seeing in season one (and I doubt it since she found out what he was doing), it's not working. This is a woman with SERIOUS problems.
My cable company does not have AMC-HD, but there is in the On-Demand section, a free section of HD On-Demand, and the entirety of MAD MEN season one is there in HD. If tonight's episode shows up there within the next week or two, I'll stop watching the regular broadcast and wait for the HD versions in On-Demand. I enjoy them so much more in HD. I've really gotten spoiled.

When he gets home? I suspect he's already there.

OK...
I know now who "The Next Food Network Star" is... And I still don't care.
And I also watched the season premiere of "Mad Men"... A good episode. Not a great one, but as DR MattH mentioned, a good re-introduction to everyone. Well, almost everyone. ;)

Well, I feel somewhat guilty with so many people having the vapors over Bruce's departure and arrival times, and I was sitting in my den oblivious to it all watching some marvelous things.

I guess some of us were having our own Personal Slow News Day/Night. ;)
*And, trust me, I did not have any vapors over bk's departure and arrival times. However, if I had known someone on the same flight with him, well, that would have been a different story. :P

And, I, too, am heading to bed now too.
Goodnight.

~~~Quick Cell Phone Contact Recovery Vibes for DR Elmore!!~~~
-
I remember when I got my last cellphone, the salesperson's first and main reason for buying the cellphone insurance was "just in case you drop it in the toilet or urinal". I guess that happens a lot. Thankfully, not to me.
I'm on my third cell phone and have never had any kind of replacement insurance. So far, I've never needed it. I keep it in the fob pocket of my jeans, so it's protected. My friend Margo, however...she (and/or her children) have ruined so many phones that I've lost count. She's lost a couple, she's dropped a couple, she even dropped one in the toilet. She just has not been able to keep a phone for very long.
By the time that plane takes off, it will be 6:00 pm. I don't think a plane can make to Burbank in an hour and 17 minutes. Can it?
A few weeks ago, I read an article about a plane that's being developed (YEARS down the road) that will be able to travel at 10,000 miles per hour! No, really! That means that it could fly across the country in 20 minutes! Imagine that!
-
And, remember my co-worker who broke her leg last weekend? She's coming back tomorrow, too, in a cast that sounds a lot like DR Kerry's. I figured if she can do it, so can I. By the way, she broke her leg getting off a Segway.
Today, we saw someone at the Seattle Center riding around on a Segway...inside buildings and outside. It was the first time that I had ever seen one live. I've seen them on TV and on-line, but in person. It was pretty cool!
