BK, I'm assuming that this was the DVD of "Five Days" that you watched:

Wow, loving the Vix Pics... The DR Vixmom and the DR Vixter both look stunning! :)
DR JoseSPiano's new avatar is fun! Also enjoyed the photo from the Birthday festivities!! :D

TOD
Doctor Who, both classic and modern.
(Uh, duh. Wasn't that predictable?)
The Prisoner.
The Avengers.
Two Fat Ladies.
And does anyone remember Flickers? It ran on Masterpiece Theater, I believe. Bob Hoskins and Frances de la Tour mixing it up merrily in the early days of British cinema. Great idea, too bad nobody has ever picked it up as something that could run in America.
-
Workies. Hasta.

TOD
Elizabeth R (Glenda Jackson)
Six Wives of Henry VIII
The Singing Detective
and I sure there are others but these came to mind immediatley

This is how it actually read

Well, it's not the best fit but I can't do anything more to it. I cropped the picture down from this one that Jose posted yesterday. It still looks fuzzy to me. I've cropped till there is nothing left to crop and I've re-sized more than once. The default photo program on my computer here at work doesn't seem to be doing the job. Anybody else think they can make me look less fuzzy?

Maybe that's what DR Ginny needs at her workplace to control the homeless and indigent... a Warlord Librarian! ;)
-
Good morning, all! I'm off to an ultrascan, which I hope will not take long since I am starving. This afternoon, the doctor to hopefully begin diabetes tests. Oy!
Last night I finished MURDER AT THE GROVE and did not guess the killer. I'm now waiting for the third book.
DR Ben, I want to look fuzzier!
TOD:
I, Claudius
Six Wives of Henry the Eighth

Thursday morning greetings! As DR JRand said last night, we are, indeed, into our NYC groove. Richard is at Morning Prayer at St. Mary's and I'm having my coffee while visiting with y'all. I'm also trying some first-thing-in-the-morning icing of my foot to see if that helps the swelling.
-
DR Elmore - vibes for competent medical care today! Please let us know how things progress.
-
Good morning, DR Ben. Richard and I will leave here about 10:45, hoping to catch a bus that will get us to the FC by 11:30 or so. Just in case, I will PM my cell phone number to you. Looking forward to chatting and chewing with you!
-
TOD:
Tom Brown's Schooldays
Rock Follies
-
TOD - Richard and I watched I, Claudius while dating and used the theme from Masterpiece Theatre for our wedding processional. I also liked All Creatures Great and Small. He likes a lot of the British mystery series, but after a while they all run together for me.
-
DR Ginny - I'm trying to figure out when I might be able to see you. Do you have any Saturday morning breakfast plans yet?
-
DR Jose, Richard asked me yesterday if we were going to get to "that deli up by Larry's" - Artie's - and I thought about going there Friday before South Pacific. Haven't discussed it with Elmore, because I didn't think he was in any frame of mind to talk about food until after the tests this morning.
Also, when we passed MOMA in the taxi on the way into the City yesterday, Richard mentioned that he'd never been there. I haven't been there since the Picasso exhibit in 1980, so we were thinking, if it rains (tomorrow?), about spending some time there.
-
My appointment, which I thought was at 9:15 is actually at 9:45, so I think I'll begin my trek over to East 95th Street.
-
Weird word of the day CHTHONIC, so a weird song

What's up with Arnold? Has anyone heard from him?
-
DR Ginny - I'm trying to figure out when I might be able to see you. Do you have any Saturday morning breakfast plans yet?
DR Singdaw - we're pretty open all day on Saturday. Will probably try this afternoon to get tix for The 39 Steps - either performance, whichever we can get the best seats. So, NO, we don't have plans for Saturday breakfast. We'd love to see you!
-
Sorry to have missed DR Vixmom last night. The photos are lovely - I love the black and white motif for the wedding. The Vixter is a stunning young woman.
-
The question of the day:
Will DR elmore3003 decide to attend BEDBUGS!, the new NYMF musical? ;)
-
That sounds good, DR Ginny. Wonder if some certain DR can suggest the best of all possible NYC breakfast places? :)

I, CLAUDIUS was the best telly mini-series, British or American, ever! Period!
Other good ones...THE BRETTS, about a theatrical family during the twenties. BY THE SWORD DIVIDED, about the English Civil War. And TO PLAY THE KING, HOUSE OF CARDS, & FINAL CUT, the mini with my old pal, Ian Richardson, playing a Machivellean Prime Minister.
-
Good morning, everyone.
What a wealth of pics! Lovely pics of VIXFAMILY. I agree with Mike Barnum--and that's nothing to do with Bollywood!
Great new avatars from Ben and Jose!

British Mini-Series?
STATE OF PLAY and THE STATE WITHIN are both excellent.
I also enjoyed FIVE DAYS, though I agree that the last 2 episodes were not as good as the first three.

Maybe that certain DR would even like to join us?
Oh, absolutely. In fact, it should be an OPEN CASTING CALL! ;D

BK's story about the "connected" guy he met in the restaurant reminded me of something that happened to me many years ago. I've told this story a few times, but never on this site.
Back in 1974, I lived in the Oak Park neighborhood of Agoura Hills and knew a man named Eddie Cannizzaro.
He was known in our neighborhood as the "cat man," because every evening at six, he would go to a particular corner and feed all the felines in the area. He was also known to have been "connected," but he claimed that he was a mere bookkeeper.
My first book had just been published, which made me somewhat of a neighborhood celebrity.
One day, Eddie stopped by my house and asked if I would like to write a book with him about his experiences in the Mob. Initially, I wasn't very interested because, after the success of THE GODFATHER two years earlier, there had been dozens of books/movies about the Mafia, and I felt that the subject had, for the time being, been pretty well played out.
"What if the book contained some sensational revelations?" Eddie asked.
"Like what?"
"Like I'm the guy who pulled the trigger on Bugsy Siegel."
After I'd recovered from my surprise, Eddie proceeded to sketch out the details of the assassination.
"Do you really want to do this?" I asked him.
"Why not?"
"Because there's no statute of limitations on murder."
Long pause.
"Maybe I'd better think that over," he said, heading for the door. Then, he turned back to me and said, "You're not going to say anything about this, are you?"
I assured him that my lips were sealed and he left. We never spoke of the subject again. Neither did he...until he was on his deathbed in 1987 when he gave an interview to a local newspaper.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I've already practiced the bit of "grooving funk" that I'll be playing and recording - and from the e-mail I just got, "teaching" too! - in a few(!) hours.
-
DR Ginny - As for MoMA tomorrow... Well, if you and Richard would like to go - if it's raining, that is - I'd be more than happy to join you. And since I'm a member, I can get you guys in for $5.00 using my Guest Pass privileges too.
-
And as for breakfast... Well, the UWS does have some great "possibilities"... As does midtown... And Chelsea... And so on and so forth.. ;)
-
Oh, absolutely. In fact, it should be an OPEN CASTING CALL! ;D
"OPEN CASTING CALL" - Three words that can strike terror into an audition accompanist's heart. ;)

That's the one. I'm wondering if the Brit version has better picture quality.
-
Good morning!
Barely cool enough to keep the doors and windows open last night and this morning, but it comes to an end today, I'm sure.
BTW, we officially got 8 1/2 inches of rain during our Hurricane Fay experience, but some parts of the county got 11 inches!
-
Oh, and the big head guy on the left of the Brit cover (bottom) is Rory Kinnear, son of the great character actor Roy Kinnear. He's terrific.
-
My favorite British miniseries will always be ELIZABETH R. Glenda Jackson's portryal from teenaged girl to elderly monarch is unparalleled among the women who have played the Virgin Queen. The two Emmys she won for it were richly deserved.
Other favorites:
I, CLAUDIUS (Derek Jacobi's work was comparable to Jackson's and he wasn't even nominated)
BRIDESHEAD REVISITED
PRIDE & PREJUDICE
-
Even the Brit DVD has an awful tagline which just takes you in the wrong direction - nothing is what it seems. Why don't they stop with that crap? I'd have to make sure that the Brit DVD isn't the same as the HBO.
-
I just remembered something.
Today is the 28th anniversary of my arrival in New York City. A friend and I left Minneapolis on Tuesday morning, August 26th and we drove all day Tuesday and Wednesday, spending Wednesday night in a motel just off the Holland Tunnel. We arrived in New York City at 14th Street and 9th Avenue at about 10:30 on Thursday August 28th. Boy, has 9th Avenue and 14th Street changed!
So have I ;)
-
Also interesting is that the final two episodes weren't directed by the same guy who did the first three.
-
I'm certainly up early, aren't I?
-
I also liked the renditions of several of the Dorothy Sayers mysteries, too: CLOUDS OF WITNESS, FIVE RED HERRINGS, etc.
-
I'm certainly up early, aren't I?
Jogging will do that to you. ;)
-
Today I'll continue with the PERRY MASON set. I've got nine more episodes to go, so after I return from lunch, I'll likely spend most of the rest of the day with those. I doubt I'll finish them today, but I'll be interested to see how far I get with them.
-
Nothing on TV tonight since BURN NOTICE is preempted for tennis. I also watched this week's previous shows already, so other than a couple of movies on the DVR, I have nothing waiting for me to watch other that work-related items.
-
Ben - is this better?

I got an email yesterday from a dear friend in London. He's been a documentary editor for decades for various British networks. He said that all he's getting now are reality series...there are very few quality programs produced there anymore.
Maybe he should go back to writing. (He wrote the Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee movie THE CREEPING FLESH)!

DR EDISAURUS - I love The Creeping Flesh....it's right up there for me with Plague of the Zombies, which I sometimes type as Plaque of the Zombies!

Well, I'm back from the shoulder x-ray and the ultra-scan, and I plan to nap before my 2:30 appointment.
As soon as I got back from the East Side, I had some breakfast and that should last me till later in the day.
DR singdaw, there are other shows at NYMF I'm giving priority over BEDBUGS. Been there, done it.
-
DR MBarnum, re: your comments last night re: BIG BROTHER.
The reason i asked about your opinion of ollie after tuesday's show is because i was curious whose side you were on (dan vs ollie). Since you seem to like dan a lot, but still like ollie i guess the editors managed to "trick" the audience.
I sort of liked ollie in the beginning. But there is something i have disliked about him for a while now.
I wasn't sure if people not watching/reading the feeds would find ollie charming/but screwed over by dan. or cocky and deserving of what he got.
They did not show a key piece of info on tuesday's show. Ollie and michelle were laughing at dan for following the deal. And they made a pact to screw him over even if he kept his full word (about pov).
To me this makes a huge difference in how i view what happened. I don't find ollie to be the victim at all.
At the end of tuesday's show they showed ollie starting to go slightly crazy. I am curious if there will be any consequences for this (probably not but who knows). I guess it depends how much they show.
If you only knew the things jerry has been saying you would like him less than you do now. :)
-
DR Jose, thank you for the macaron photo---just another reason to miss NY. I hope Ginny and Richard find their way there!

DR Vixmom, thank you for your condolences.
I’m, so glad I didn’t miss the wonderful, beautiful wedding photos. The photo of The Vixter smiling up at the camera is perfection.
-
DR Jennifer, the only thing I disliked about Ollie was who he aligned himself with. He seems like a nice guy...I don't think he is playing a very good game, and I had no doubt that he and Michelle would not keep their word with Dan.
-
DR Jose, your new avatar made me smile as did the birthday photo of you, Ben & elmore.
Thank you DR JRand. I look forward to the retake on the photos.

DR Druxy, you should have written the book & waited to publish it. ;)
DR Ben, wow-28 years in NY!

Hey, elmore, if you feel like it, do amazon reviews for the two Hofstetter books - they don't have all that many yet.

Back from the long jog - not too bad today. Kind of chilly out, but it looks like the overcast is burning off now.

DR Druxy, you should have written the book & waited to publish it. ;)
Funny you should mention that.
A few years later, I met a gentleman named Warren Hull who gave me the inside scoop on the Bugsy Siegel killing. It didn't go down quite the way that Eddie told me, but very close.
In fact, Hull's father (unknowingly) supplied the gun that killed Siegel.
Warren Hull and I did write a book together on the subject, entitled FAMILY SECRET, available from Amazon and other book dealers.
Thanks for the opportunity to give my book a plug.
:)

All packages are packaged and awaiting a trip to the postal office, which will either be late this afternoon or tomorrow morning.
-
Guess I'll take a shower now and get ready for my meeting.

Wasn't Bugsy mixed up the Virginia Hill, the ham heiress?
She gave a pretty saucy response to a Senate committee when she was asked if she had been supported by gangsters - something like:
"None of those guys ever gave me a dime!"
-
Although my favorite response from a moll when she was asked what she was doing on a particular night was:
"I wuz knittin' a mitten for my kitten."

Last night's PROJECT RUNWAY:
SPOILAGE
Sldkfjkfl lakjf lkjjk;lkaflkj ;lkjadsf;lkj a;lkdj ;lkj ij jkajr;lkjf;lkja;flkjas;lkf jas ;dlfkjas;ldkjf as;lkfjas;ldjf as;ldfj;l I was very disappointed in Keith last night. I don't know if the editing is to blame or whether what we saw was the kind of attitude he has been displaying consistently. Blayne commented on his attitude and made it clear something has been up with Keith. I think he took Daniel's departure rather hard, and he hasn't been very good since. His fashion sense the past two weeks has been crap. His defense of his work doesn't reassure me of his future.
All of that said, and I agree with the decision as to who should go home, I thought the designers pretty much stepped up and knocked their respective "balls" out of the park. Who knew they'd find any kind of inspiration in those materials. Once again, I have to say I think Korto was the creme de la creme of the designers, but I also agree with the judges' decisions to reward fine work from other designers. Korto is the best designer I've seen on the show in a long time...maybe ever. She has stiff competition, too, but I always think her designs are just a bit better. I'm glad she takes their praised gracefully and doesn't bitch like Christian did when he didn't win every time.
Oh, well. I've read some stuff Tim Gunn has said about this season. Primarily, he thinks the show is kind of boring. That might explain why he's less involved in critiquing them during the design phase. He has been vocally critical of Stella and her "leatha" fetish and her standard "that's what I do" phrase every time she gets an audience to listen. How funny last night that Leah did a dress that was right up Stella's alley, but Stella's outfit was kind of dull, dull, dull. Jerrell was on target, too, as was Terri. I think the three black designers -- Korto, Terri and Jerrell -- are interesting, unpredictable and generally very entertaining.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Xldkkjj djkfjkjkakjldkj a;ldjf ;lkj k;jalkfj;lkjaoijhkljl;kjf;ljkdf;lakjsdg ;lkasjg 'lakjl;kjfsadlkjadf;lkajsdf;laksj ;laksj g;lkjsg;laskjf ;lskjf s;lk jasldkj choctaw dropjaw stockslaw slipscrawl.

DR Jennifer, the only thing I disliked about Ollie was who he aligned himself with. He seems like a nice guy...I don't think he is playing a very good game, and I had no doubt that he and Michelle would not keep their word with Dan.
I think Ollie ruined his chances from the gitgo when he teamed up with April. April wasn't a good player and she wasn't a good judge of character. Ollie did only what April told him to do. Once she was gone he tried to step up and put on a game face, but he was way out of his league.
Jerry's behavior is indefensible. That he has allied himself consistently with the dumbest players in BB history says more than I care to elaborate upon.
-
Wasn't Bugsy mixed up the Virginia Hill, the ham heiress?
Yes, and she used to live near our house in Marietta. She bought the bungalow from her mother in the 1930's for 11K. She also bought a horse that she boarded nearby, and that's how she got around town. I bet there are some stories there, waiting to be told!

I had a very nice mini-gathering myself with Ginny and Richard. Lunch was sparkling and tasty and so large that I took half of mine home. I will have it for dinner after I finish the laundry.
After lunch I walked G and R through Union Square Park to Park Avenue South so they could take the bus up town to their museum on Madison Avenue.
I'm all checked in for the airport tomorrow. My boarding pass is in my folder and I'm ready to go. Problem is, I'm still here! In my mind I'm in Madison and Fort Atkinson.

Well, the recording session went rather well. -And let's just say that I am very grateful for digital editing and post-production. Well, Richard just had apple pie for lunch, so he's on the same wave length!
We did, indeed, have a nice visit with DR Ben, celebrating his 28th anniversary in the City. We took the bus to 34th and Madison Ave. to SIBL (Science, Business, and Industry Library) to see "The Real Men and Women of Madison Avenue," a retrospective of lots of familiar advertising from the past 40 years or so. It's not a huge exhibit, but one that makes you remember things you thought you'd forgotten. We took 2 more busses home and I'm now icing my foot to get ready for the evening: Evening Prayer at St. Mary's, a light supper at Cranberry Deli, and the closing perfomance of Skip's Summer Shorts 2.

Today, my blood sugar level is so far off the chart that I have to present myself shortly to the St Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital emergency room at 114th and Amsterdam Avenue for IVs to bring down the level. I may be admitted.
I'm waiting for the postman and my cell phone to recharge and I'm off.

Oh Larry, GOOD LUCK & VIBES YOU GET THIS UNDER CONTROL QUICKLY!
Thank goodness for friends who diagnosed your problem.
Take your phone charger with you.

There can be nothing more frustrating that your doctor announcing "Is A Puzzlement!"
Good luck and hurry back (I need a ready foil :D).

Warren Hull and I did write a book together on the subject, entitled FAMILY SECRET, available from Amazon and other book dealers.
Thanks for the opportunity to give my book a plug.
:)
I'm pleased to give you the opportunity ;). The book looks very interesting, I'll see if any of our local stores has a copy.

So have I ;)
Happy 28th Anniversary of Your New York Arrival, Ben!!

TOD
Doctor Who, both classic and modern.
(Uh, duh. Wasn't that predictable?)
Me, too! Except that I've never watched many of the classic episodes.
Torchwood is another series that I love! And The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Murder Most Horrid! I love this show! It was the first time that I had ever heard of Dawn French...or:
French and Saunders
And I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Upstairs, Downstairs. My parents loved that show. A couple of years ago, my sister and I got them the entire series for their anniversary. They were very happy. :D
-
I used this word in a lyric to a tune I wrote many years ago entitled "In 20th Century Pompeii." Just thought you'd like to know. ;D
Can you post the lyric? :)
-
There's a big crowd and lots of commotion down on the sidewalk outside Letterman. I just opened the window and leaned out to discover that it's the audience warm-up guys teaching people how to laugh.
-
As predicted, the A/C had to come back on today, and it's popped on a couple of times this afternoon as the humidity is pretty high.
-
DR Elmore, my fingers are crossed that everything will go well for you. I hope you (or other NYCers) will keep us informed of what transpires.
Godspeed.
-
I watched 2 1/2 more episodes of PERRY MASON this afternoon. In two different episodes, quite famous Oriental actors played major roles. Vicor Sen Yung was in one episode. In another, a VERY young George Takei and Benson Fong in a second.
-
I stopped the last episode halfway through before the court proceedings began. Elliot Reid is a primary guest star in this one.
-
Hmm... Well, I was thinking of hosting a brunch on Saturday... Hmmmm...
With ice cream, hmmm?
-
Good Afternoon! Once again...
And since I'm done for the day, I believe I am going to stop by St. Luke's since it is on the way home.
And shall be carrying a veritable cornucopia of VIBES with me for DR Elmore.
Laters...

Oh, my Larry!!! Vibes to you dear friend.

DR Jose - you are definitely one of the good guys! Please give our best to DR Elmore and call us if we can help in any way.

Back from a very long but very nice and good meeting. Much was discussed and Mr. Joel Grey stopped by our little table to say hello, which was fun.

I've now got orginazational things to do.

Plus, I'm really hungry. Plus, we're on page six at long last.

Now, I'm going to write for a bit and then head back down to join Perry and Della in court.
WBBL.

Picked up a small package from the mail place. None of the Kritzerland big order invoice checks have made an appearance yet, which is irksome.
-
DR Elmore, I am glad you finally went and had your blood sugar checked!!!! Doggone you anyhow!
Please take care!
-
Best of wishes for DR Elmore.
I hope that it was not a consequence of spending time with two of the sweetest people in New York - DRs Jose & Ben.
-
Thank you BK!
I've received and now watched my copy of "Agatha" from Amazon.com.de
-
I would have suggested any of Eartha Kitt's songs as Song of the Day.
Or perhaps Dinah Washington's "This Bitter Earth"
"This bit o' earth" was I think the remake of "God's Little Acre"
-
I've tended to send PM's to people who are "Down" or Physically unwell. It's really just not the Australian way to be "public" with such things.
I do know however that vibes do work!
My advisors tell me that I should "talk" about issues rather than to internalise which I usually do!
So! As some DRs already know, cancer cells have once again been detected in my recent blood tests. I'll be away in France for a month or so after Sept 10th and shall hopefully be concentrating on enjoying life.
Thank you to the HHW who have already been supportive in helping me cope with this new battle.
I had a lovely card from DR SpongeBag yesterday which prompted this revelation!
-
Today I shall be visiting my "birth" Mother who was 84 yesterday. She lives not that far from my Father. (They divorced about 30 years ago). I may call in and see my Father too. At least if I tell him my news it won't worry him as he will forget within a few minutes.
-
Of better things:
I've been listening to Nancy La Mott's "Ask Me Again".

Greetings from the ER! Where I am currently sitting at the foot of DR elmore's bed.
I'll let him post the details later, but the short version is that Larry gets to go home tonight. He does not have to be admitted. :)
*And even the doctor was a bit surprised by DR elmore's self-non-diagnosis. And he had nice green eyes too. ;)

I feel better now that Jose is there with elmore. Jose you are there as a surrogate for each and everyone of us!
-
Well, it looks like DR elmore will be discharged in another 30 minutes or so. We hope.
*Although one of the nurses just commented that DR elmore's doctor has the hand-writing of a serial-killer... Hmmmm... ;)
-
I feel better now that Jose is there with elmore. Jose you are there as a surrogate for each and everyone of us!
Surrogate?!?! I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies.
;)
-
Thank you, DR TCB.

DR Jose, considering the circumstances I'm sure glad DR elmore isn't continually watching you eat an ice cream cone. ;)
What is the plan when you leave? Will you stop for dinner? Just what can he eat tonight?
-
As a side note, I have the Democratic Convention playing in the background. I am getting really tired of every speaker at the convention who is from a state west of the Rockies (particularly Colorado speakers), sounding like they just stepped out of a Western movie.
Representative Mark Udall may be a fine congressman, but I seriously doubt he has ever faced down any gunslingers while coming out of Miss Kitty's Saloon.

Dr. Darin just came and said he is starting DR elmore's discharge process. Yeah!

What exactly is the point of the convention? I know they have to nominate their candidate, but what what other business is going on that they need several days for a convention?
-
DR Jennifer, the only thing I disliked about Ollie was who he aligned himself with. He seems like a nice guy...I don't think he is playing a very good game, and I had no doubt that he and Michelle would not keep their word with Dan.
i don't like when they mis-represent people.
They didn't show ollie saying he would back out of his deal with dan.
But they also did not show the vulgar/homophobic things he said to memphis.
After the backyard rant (which they show on tonight's show) ollie actually said (and i saw this myself on youtube), "you fa#got, suck my d@ck" (g and i are the missing letters).
Memphis is not even gay. But that's not the point. People should not say things like that. Memphis was mad!

Back from various and sundried. Never got to ship the packages, which I'll do first thing in the morning. Decided to go to La La's for their double chicken breast smothered in onions and garlic and it was, once again, yummilicious. Then I went down to Barnsdall Park to look at the theater there - it's one of several venues we're looking at to do the Kevin and Sean show. And now I am home and must sit on my couch like so much fish.
-
We had a delightful evening at 59E59, seeing Summer Shorts 2. The ending of Skip's show made me cry. We found the set very clever and tried to figure out if they were using all the items stored in the cubbyholes.
DR FJL introduced us to Stephanie D'Abruzzo, who was very friendly and gracious.
We heard some of Obama's speech in the taxi on the way home and got here to see the end of it.
-
Oh, when we were at Cranberry Cafe on 45th St. for a bite of supper I overheard a cute young man having a reunion with a woman who looked like she could have been a former teacher of his. He was telling her that he's about to go into Grease as Kenickie.
-
Time to chill, perchance to sleep! Nytol!
-
So glad to read that DR Elmore gets to spend the night at home.
-
And so happy DR Jose could be there for him. Friends always make SUCH a difference in our lives.
-
I began my evening viewing with a quick scan of AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of any interest whatsoever, and nothing in the previews.
-
I have now watched 10 of the 12 PERRY MASON episodes in this set. My goodness, it's so startling to see young versions of Jeanne Cooper, for example. One of the joys of watching shows from the 1950s is seeing some folks on the way up and some folks treading water after movie careers (Arthur Franz).
Nice to see folks like Lurene Tuttle and Jerome Cowan and John Lupton.
-
Scouting around for something to watch (nothing on network of cable movie channels of interest), I found on TCM On Demand the documentary RITA about Rita Hayworth. I'm not sure I ever saw this before, but anyway, I watched the first 20 minutes of it. It's an hour, so I'll finish it tomorrow as I cook and eat lunch.

I have to write for a little bit, and then I'll head down to bed.

I'm sure DR elmore will say more about this, but... When the doctors and nurses got his blood work back, they came up to him and asked him to confirm that he has diabetes - "So, you have diabetes, right?" It wasn't really a question. Just a statement. There was no hint of "Did you know you have diabetes?"
It actually provided some great laughs. ;)

LOL, DR MattH! Because I don't follow AI, your question didn't "resonate" with me. I'm glad I was able, unintentionally and with DR Jose's help, to get it answered for you!
Knowing now who Ace is makes me wonder now if the lady he was talking to was just someone who recognized him from TV. If she was, he was being extremely cordial to her.

Sounds like our New York contingent is having a blast. And hope elmore is feeling ship-shape shortly.
-
OH! Sounds like a plan to me!
Meet on the 54th Street side/entrance - it's less crowded there.
*And there are elevators and escalators too. And wheelchairs, if needed. ;)
Great! The elevators and escalators will be useful, as will places to sit down once in a while. I haven't needed a wheelchair since the day the pins were removed from my toes.
-
OK, tomorrow is sketched out, so I'm going to sign off.
'night!
-
There is lightening all around. I hope we get some rain tonight!

There are benches in all of the main galleries. And in the second floor "waiting space", there are large "sectionals" for people to sit on. However, lately, it seems that people are using them to take mid-day naps. -They even take their shoes off, and lie back fully on the cushions... Thus preventing anywhere from 5-10 people a place to sit. :-\
-
OK... Me sleepy...
Goodnight.

Thank you to all the DRs for the sundried thoughts.
I've just returned for a visit to my Birth Mother. It was a good day to choose as her younger brother was there. He is only ten years older than his nephew! It is only the second time we have met.
Lovely man.
-
It's Father's day here on the second Sunday in September so I will visit my Dad about then.
-
I would have been interesting to have my two sets of parents meet. I suspect my Dads would have had no problem. My Adoptive Mum(Mom) had the opportunity and was quite interested and willing but . . . . . .
At least my Mum did get to meet one of my brothers and my half brother and his family.
-
And that's the news from OZ.
-
Hoo Boy! We are getting a storm. It is almost getting scary!
-
Oh my god...I go away for a couple of hours and come back to such serious stuff.
Dear Tomovoz---I had no idea you were battling the big evil "C". I will be sending you vibes every single day!
And Dear Larry---I will be thinking of you and hoping for the best diagnosis possible.
Thank you, Jose for watching over our dear friend!
My sentiments exactly VIBES~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What exactly is the point of the convention? I know they have to nominate their candidate, but what what other business is going on that they need several days for a convention?
Spending millions of dollars that could be going to the people they claim they want to help

I went to the Sioux City Explorers vs the Sioux Falls Canaries baseball game tonight. It was the playoffs. Unfortunately the Canaries swept us in the series. It was a beautiful night and I had a great time. It was the first time I've gone to one of these games and I'm looking forward to going to more of them next year.
-
Right now I am very tired and it is late.
I will be thinking of and saying a prayer for Tomovoz and Elmore.

Prior to going to Barnsdall Park, I killed an hour over at Amoeba. And in that hour I found a CD that I never would have been aware of if I hadn't just luckily thumbed through a batch of CDs that hadn't been put out yes (sitting on the counter). And there you have everything that's wrong with buying music over the Internet - no discovery - no just thumbing through CDs and coming upon one you knew nothing about and which is a total surprise. That's what kids today and the world today have brought us - no sense of discovery. The album is by someone I've never heard of called Danilo Perez, a jazz pianist. The cover was lovely, and as soon as I saw the Claus Ogerman credit it was mine. Mr. Perez is great, and this album is a spiritual cousin to Bill Evans with Symphony Orchestra. It's all piano, bass, and drums, with symphony orchestra, and Mr. Ogerman has fashioned most of it from classical tunes, along with two standards, including the oddest Lazy Afternoon you'll ever hear, but one that's so weirdly hypnotic you can't take your ears off it. That's one of two vocal tracks on the CD - sung by a deep-throated Casandra Wilson. One is never sure exactly what key she's singing in, because the orchestration is ever-shifting and going really unexpected places. It may not be to everyone's liking, but it sure is unique. The other standard is All Of A Sudden My Heart Sings. The classical tunes are based on themes by Massenet, Rachmaninov, de Falla, Sibelius, etc. More later.

Welcome eleven GUESTS. Just you and me now.

That was quite a storm. Tomorrow I will be cleaning up palm fronds from my yard. And I don't have a palm tree.

That's a great album! -And you should check out some of Danilo Perez's small combo albums too!

*And that album just happened to come out this past Tuesday, August 26... a.k.a. my birthday... And it was on sale(!) at J&R Music World when I stopped by there on Tuesday morning before walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. :)
-
*bk - Have you picked up "Elaine Elias Sings & Plays Bills Evans" yet?
-
And, yes, I'm still up...
I started to organize a bunch of the photos I've taken over the past couple of weeks - my "desktop" was starting to get a bit cluttered. And I made sure to actually label my edited pics, instead of keeping their original computer generated numerical "names".
-
Hubba....
And he has nice eyes, too!
You got that right! :D

~~~Continued Vibes for Elmore!!~~~
bk - I think you may have mentioned this one before, but just in case you haven't...
"Cityscape"
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/519YnVX6NeL._SL500_AA240_.jpg)
-I've never really been that big a fan of Michael Brecker's playing/style, but this album is pretty cool and kickin'. And, yes, a big part of that has to do with Claus Ogerman's contribution to the project - along with the rest of the Jazz "all-stars" line-up. The album is originally from the mid-80s, but was reissued on CD (again) last year. It's companion-predecessor album is "Gate of Dreams". -Which I believe, I still have on LP!
-
And to bring it full circle, so to speak, Claus Ogerman also arranged and conducted "Classical Barbra" which was the focus of the Glenn Gould article the DR singdaw posted the other day.
-
OK.... Time for me to get some sleep for real this time. I can't be lookin' tired for DR Ginny and Richard. ;)
Goodnight.
-
A second strong storm cell came through.
No, I have to get it - next time.
I've had Cityscape since the day it came out on LP. I have the original CD pressing. Gate Of Dreams (Cityscape doesn't quite achieve the heights of Gate Of Dreams) is one of my desert island CDs, and I just got a new import from Japan that is the best pressing of it I've heard).
Watching some of the political analysts, Barack Obama's speech went very well. :)
Tonight, I get paid! I have automatic deposit, but I've changed it, so I need to make ABSOLUTELY sure that it's all correct. I had to have a savings account with the credit union where I got my mortgage (which is a different credit union than where my checking account is) and I just set it up to have my mortgage automatically withdrawn from that savings account. Tonight is when the first automatic deposit of my paycheck goes into that new savings account. I hope it all works!
-
Fortunately, the actual mortgage withdrawal doesn't happen until the fourth of the month, so I will have time to transfer money if the deposit doesn't work...but it should. :)
GRATUITOUS POST #300 AND PAGE 11 DANCE!!
