Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the Shearing touch, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home. They're watching the sheep being sheared - the sheep are having the shearing touch, too.

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Singdaw!! ;D
-
Right now, I'm watching the movie, "Jumper." The special effects are very good. The script has a lot of problems...one person in the IMDB board wrote, "All I know is, it took one guy to write a good novel, and three people to adapt it into a crappy screenplay. Go figure..
Yup...that sums it up.
-
Thanks very much, bk and DR George! ;D
I wonder if anyone has ever tried switching it up and serving ham slices with cheese chunks?
-
Only once, and it was a deesaster.
-
And what is the birthday boy doing for the birthday?
-
Well, first on my list is catching up on yesterday's posts and then today's notes! :)
After that, I'll walk the dog and get ready for my half day at church. [Exciting, right??]
Then the rest of the day is mine, all mine. We may go to a concert and/or try out the spiffy new pizza joint that just opened in town.

Happy Birthday to DRSINGDAW....today is the party for the 60th Wedding Anniversary of the parental units, so work is afoot...and much to be done.

Sunday morning greetings! We'll be on our way shortly to Cincinnati for church. What makes today different is that DS Rob and his girlfriend and DH Richard and I are all going in the same car and coming back here together.

Happy 60th wedding anniversary to the parents of DR JRand!

Happy happy happy (that's three happy's) birthday, singdaw!
Just an observation: singdaw always sends the best cards,. because flowers often come with them.

I am not sure if this was mentioned but
Cynthia Nixon, won an Emmy Saturday for a guest role on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Glynn Turman, won best guest actor in a drama for "In Treatment"; Kathryn Joosten, best guest actress in a comedy for "Desperate Housewives"; and Tim Conway, best guest actor in a comedy for "30 Rock." (how many does this make??)

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it's Sunday, just so you know.
-
Good morning all! Happy Birthday to DR Singdaw!
I have also joined Facebook but I also don't really know what is so great about it. Is it easier to upload photos to?
My computer is dead. I had to dig out the lap top so I could get online. That really makes me mad because I it's like it knew that I was thinking about replacing it. I was starting to back things up on the spare hard drive but wasn't 100% finished. Now I'll have to pay to get it back up and running so I can.
If there wasn't photos of Mom involved, I'd say "Chuck it". Oh well.
Except for still being very bare, Bear is making an wonderful recovery! I'm so pleased.

Actually, I can partially answer this one...
They started showing "The Godfather" this weekend, and "The Godfather, Part 2" will run next week. Then they will run the films in rep for the final week of the limited three-week arrangement - so that you can spend an afternoon and/or evening with "the family".
A friend of mine went on Friday, and said he was very impressed with the restoration. Although, he wishes that it was being shown at a theatre with a larger screen. I may go during the final week to see them back-to-back.

Hi, DR Danise! :)

Good morning, all! I'm about ready to hop into a taxi and head to Toyland for the morning. I shouldn't be down there longer than a couple of hours, but I've got to dig out some orchestra parts for the copyists and take care of a few other matters.

Oh, I just want to warn everyone that the cause of my computer crash (I think) was some automatic updates that you get from time to time. The computer was fine before they loaded. You ever get those? The shield by the "shut down" icon stating it will do the updates and then shut the computer down for you?

I am supposed to get those GODFATHER restored versions on regular DVD to review, but they have not arrived. I suspect they'll come in this week when I'm knee-deep in TV box sets (CRIMINAL MINDS, WILL & GRACE 8).
I have only heard that they are great improvements over the overly dark previous versions of the films.

Good morning!
We're back to summer in full force. 92 today for a high! But by mid-week, we'll be having lows in the 50s, so I guess I can stand a couple more days of this. Obviously, the A/C is on and will stay on until the temps begin to get more reasonable.

I'm not MattH, but I can answer the question - the word is that the restoration is great and restores most of the look of the film to its original intention - the dark, moody Gordon Willis photography apparently looks great again. Robert Harris worked on it directly with Coppola and Willis.

Back from the long jog. The overcast burned off during the very first few blocks, so I had sun most of the way. And now I shall take some moments to ponder food for the day. I've sort of had a craving for eggs, ham, and toast - I have the bread, but would have to buy the ham and eggs.
-
Or I could do Subway and have a foot long turkey.
-
Or I could do something wholly other.
-
- why do they continually fix things that don't need fixing?
Because wise-ass management types have been seduced into a mantra of "continuous improvement". Try going to weekly meetings presenting charts of "The Three Biggest Problems with My Project and corrective action planned". It doesn't matter if you're outperforming specs, ahead of schedule and below budget - you must produce change. (There were those of us who used to quietly plan ahead to have problems we could "publish" and then "plan action" and then "report success".) I always kept a triple set of books - the "project to contract" and the "project to company plan" and the "project to personal plan".

For Larry:
NEWSMAX (http://www.newsmax.com/health/sweeteners_type_2_diabete/2008/09/12/130133.html)
Sweeteners Different For Type 2 Diabetes
When trying to manage Type 2 diabetes, new research shows that all sweeteners may not act upon the body in the same way. According to joint research by the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the University of Sao Paolo, Brazil, sugar from dates and dark brown cane sugar may be the best choices for Type 2 diabetics.
The researchers found that some sweeteners contain large amounts of antioxidants, which aid in controlling diabetes-linked heart disease and high blood pressure. Further, some sweeteners may inhibit the activity of alpha-glucosidase, an enzyme that controls the passage of sugars from the small intestine.
The research team performed an extensive study of sweeteners, which included Domino Sugar’s complete line as well as unprocessed dark sugars from Peru and Mauritius. Also included were corn syrup-based sweeteners, maple syrup, and sugars from all over Asia and South America. Sweeteners were first studied for their phenolic content, which is the same beneficial antioxidant found in red wine and tea. The tests showed that darker is better, with dark brown sugars containing close to 5,000 micrograms of phenolic compounds per gram, while white sugar contained a mere 18.
When it came to controlling the alpha-glucosidase enzyme, the study showed it was best controlled by the darkest brown sugars and especially by date sugar, which inhibited the enzyme by 75 percent, as compared to a maximum of 50 percent by dark sugars. Several corn sweeteners also inhibited the enzyme by up to 80 percent, although they contained only low levels of phenolic compounds. Several corn sweeteners also inhibited an enzyme that is a factor in high blood pressure, as did date sugar.
Overall, the researchers concluded that while artificial sweeteners may play a role in managing Type 2 diabetes, date sugar and dark brown sugars that are close to their natural state may also play an important role by controlling certain enzymes and supplying powerful antioxidants.

Note to BK
Reduction in refinery output due to IKE is causing a projected gasoline shortage and is causing wholesale prices to rise - expect to pay more at the pump for the short haul.
(The Feds relaxing formulation requirements* will ease, but not solve, the shortage problem, and the release of crude from the Strategic Reserves will help keep the flow of crude to the refineries until the closed-down wells in the Gulf get back on line.)
der Brucer
*It used to be that very few refineries could make gasoline to CA standards and most of gasloine came from Texas.

It is SO hot and humid outside. I hate these September summers. Every year about this time we seem to have a last burst of really hot weather.

Good Afternoon!
We're back at my apartment, taking a little breather - and cooling off in the A/C - before heading back down to Penn Station. We covered a lot of ground over the past six hours, and took a ton of pictures. :)
In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my last couple hours of Uncle Jojo time.

I watched another episode of THE OFFICE while I cooked and ate lunch. This was the one with Michael having money problems and where Jim and Pam spend a weekend at Dwight's board and breakfast beet farm. Hysterical.
-
And, of course, I had to watch the deleted scenes, too. Loved them as well with more scenes at the beet farm.
-
I spent a majority of the afternoon watching LE PLAISIR. Lovely anthology film but much more cunningly and symmetrically put together than a film like O. HENRY'S FULL HOUSE which is just a bunch of stories without any connection except they were written by O. Henry.
These were all written by Guy de Maupassant, but the film has arranged them almost all of a piece despite their disparate stories.
-
I managed to get all of the bonus features watched except the last interview (with the film's set decorator) which is 15 minutes long. I'll watch it when I go back down.
-
Looks like I'll have a chance to watch MICHAEL CLAYTON tonight and maybe even one episode from the CRIMINAL MINDS Season 3 set before I watch tonight's TRUE BLOOD.
-
IKE caused no damage to any refinery and there is no gas shortage and it's all a bunch of hoo-ha - and most of the American public will buy it just as they always do. I remember well the gas "shortage" of the 1970s - only guess what - some years later it came to light that there was no shortage at all - none. Nada. Squat.
-
Arnold, the Shearing/Farnon you have is on the Telarc label, I believe - I have that one, too. The songs on the MPS recording and this box set are:
Fjarlins Vingor
Last Night When We Were Young
Amaryllis
Strange Enchantment
Look At That Face
Portrait Of Jennie
Song Bird
This Is All I Ask
A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square
-
I'm going to have a Shearing marathon today.

DR DerBrucer, thank you for the article on sweeteners; I've only been using them for my morning coffee and I've been trying both Splenda and Equal to determine if I like one better than the other. They're both so sweet that I find a half a packet is plenty per cup.

Summer has returned to Manhattan. I don't know how long it will be here but today was a hot, muggy day. It started out (at 6:30am) rather pleasant but the heat and humidity quickly came in. I was out a couple of times but it's unpleasant (at least for me) so I came back in and watched some of Broadway, The Golden Age on Channel 13 (interrupted by pledge breaks), then took a shower and now I'm sitting in the air conditioned comfort of the bedroom surfing the Internet. I may put on some music or turn on the radio or read. I'm not particularly hungry, maybe because while I was out I decided to finally try something at the Shake Shack. The B-Line was short so I decided to try a Concrete. I had the Jungle because they were out of caramel which is part of a HopScotch. The Jungle is frozen custard, chocolate, banana and peanut butter. It was very good and lasted me through my walk around Madison Square Park and over to 7th Avenue. I then headed downtown to the LGBTQ Center and picked up HX and Next for Anthony. I just sent him the six weeks of HX/Next which he has missed in Wisconsin. I doubt I'll send him another shipment since he'll be home in a little more than a month. On Tuesday he and some of the other actors are going to 10 Chimneys. I am very envious!
-
DR elmore3003: Have you tried/considered stevia, a natural sweetener? I don't know how it reacts to heat, though.
-
I decided on sandwiches, since I already had the bread. I shall now eat them whilst watching something or other - I realize I have all these actor box sets in which I've only watched one or two of the movies, so today I shall watch maybe another Rock Hudson film, or maybe a Jimmy Stewart film or maybe The Hellfighters with the Duke.
-

I also got a most lovely voice mail message on my cell phone while I was in church this morning from DR Edisaurus - thank you!!! :D

Irving, Sherman, and Becky always send the best cards! :)

I am so tired. Yesterday was my niece's 3rd birthday party. She had to have 2 parties. One at lunch and one at night. Because in my brother-in-law's group of Filipino friends it is almost mandatory to have a party inviting everyone you know. And there are just too many friends with large families to have the friends and the family at the same time.
So it made for a very long day. I was up at 8am preparing the rest of my food. And then i was there by 10:30am to get ready for the first party which was at noon.
I didn't go to bed till midnight. And had to go to another birthday part at 11:30am. The good news yesterday is that i wore a Nine West dress i had bought 2 years ago (but did not look good recently). But when i tried it on yesterday it looked fine!
-
Tonight on tv for me:
Big Brother
So you think you can dance canada

I'm Very Happy for Ms. Dixie Bell
Thank you, Mr. B.!

It was a great weekend and a wonderful visit. :)

DR Jennifer - that does sound like a long and exhausting day!

I have nothing to say, but wanted to post anyway.

It's real - not a Stargate set!
;D
-
Watching The Hellfighters - haven't seen it since I attended a sneak preview at the Chinese theater. Didn't like it then, and don't much like it now.
-
Sandwiches were quite yummilicious.
-
Oh, and since today is weigh day, I can happily announce I have now officially lost twenty and a half pounds. Another ten for sure, and maybe five after that and I'll be happy.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
-
What FJL said.
-
I have nothing to add at this moment.
-
DR DerBrucer, thank you for the article on sweeteners; I've only been using them for my morning coffee and I've been trying both Splenda and Equal to determine if I like one better than the other. They're both so sweet that I find a half a packet is plenty per cup.
I hope your coffee is caffeine free. Keith saved an article from Nutrition Magazine for me to share with you & MBarnum.
I googled the info in the article, a study from Duke University Medical Center, & found the following:
"Caffeine seems to impair the metabolism of carbohydrates in patients who have type 2 diabetes," said lead author James D. Lane, an associate research professor of medical psychology at Duke University Medical Center. "So it seems to make diabetes worse."
For more on the study Click Here (http://news.healingwell.com/index.php?p=news1&id=520291) for a similar article.
If you switch from caffeine to decaffeinated, I suggest you do it slowly to avoid headaches.

It was a great weekend and a wonderful visit. :)
Fantastic, DR Jose!

My niece was so tired last night that when i read her her stories last night at 10pm, she fell asleep in the middle of the 2nd book. The ducks, wiggle, waggle, piddle, puddle and little quack all fall asleep one by one. And after little quack fell asleep i looked over and she was asleep too!
This morning when she woke up she asked "is party over?"
-
Taking a Shearing break - The Hellfighters put me to sleep. It's one of those films that is a soap opera interrupted by action sequences involving oil fires.

Is the Facebook I'm using the new one or the one about to change?

My niece wants to go to her favorite restaurant on her real birthday, Costco. My aunt and my sister are not amused by that. But i think it would be fun.
Everyone else gets to go to their favorite restaurant!

Was she good the entire time? Three is such a sweet, sweet age.

LOL!

Well... Thankfully, Uncle Jojo noticed that they had posted the departure track for Train 135 before they announced it over the PA system, or my brother and nephew would be standing in their train car right now. My brother texted me and said that it was basically standing room only, but they managed to find two aisle seats across from each other. Hopefully, once they reach Philly the crowd will thin out a bit. From what I could tell, it looked like a bunch of people who attended the Yankees games this afternoon were also trying to run for that train.
But, again, it was a good visit. And, yes, I did get a little verklempt as I gave John his hug.
-
I just heard from DR Ginny via her cell phone. Ike just came through the Cincinnati area and my hometown is without power. Ginny said it could last a couple of days. I need to call my brother Randy and see how they are doing.
-
Don't call me "Hazel," unless you put a witch before it. :P
How do you spell that?

I <HEART> and miss Farrell's. I believe birthdays 7-11 were celebrated at a Farrell's. -Well, we even celebrated our birthdays then even when it wasn't really our birthday. ;)
-
DR elmore, thank you for the update on DR Ginny. Are they fine otherwise? Do they have water?
I hope all is well with the good brother & family.

As for Chuck E. Cheese's, well... Even when I was a pre-teen, there was something off-putting to me about kids, cheese, games and pitchers of beer all under one roof. ;)
*Now, Shakey's was a different story. Of course, Shakey's didn't have Skee-Ball or Whack-A-Mole.

I spoke to Randy. He's sittign in the dark with Jo, the dogs, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He said they lost some shingles and several trees.

I'm talking to DR Ginny; she said no rain, just heavy winds. She said around 700,000 homes were without power.
-
Ask her about water, and hot water. If we loose power, we loose both.
-
That is a lot of homes. Again, thanks for the update. Does she have phone service or using her cell phone?
-
I'm very logey all of a sudden. Can barely keep Ye Olde Eyes open.
-
After the current Shearing solo piano album is done, I'll either go back to The Hellfighters, or find something else to watch.
-
TCB, any updates on little Toby?
-
TCB, any updates on little Toby?
Sorry, Laura, I am afraid not. Between my friend's surgery on Thursday and my continuing eye problems - I have been self-absorbed!
-
It is SO hot and humid outside. I hate these September summers. Every year about this time we seem to have a last burst of really hot weather.
It was awful in DC and was supposed to get to 95 there today. I was glad to get home where it's in the 60s.
-
Ok. If Ann or Jed happen to give you a call, please let us know how he is doing.

Did any DR tape and/or watch Shirley MacLaine's Coco?
-
I just heard from DR Ginny via her cell phone. Ike just came through the Cincinnati area and my hometown is without power. Ginny said it could last a couple of days. I need to call my brother Randy and see how they are doing.
Thanks Elmore. I heard that on my way home from Omaha and was concerned about DR Ginny and DH Richard. The radio said 70 mph winds there.
-
I need to call my brother Randy and see how they are doing.
Don't forget the Macbeths. ;)
-
Oh... I may have mentioned this yesterday, but since I'm a bit too tired to check yesterday's posts... So, pardon me in advance should this be redundant. So...
John had been mentioning for weeks that he really wanted to go to the Museum of Modern Art. So, we added MoMA to yesterday's itinerary. However, when we got there, we started looking around the gift shop just so he could see some of the posters of some of the art in the Museum. He was getting tired by that point in the afternoon, and we just wanted to make sure that he really wanted to walk through the galleries. Well...
"Which museum is this?"
-This is MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art. The one you wanted to go to.
"But where's the one that goes up in rings like a donut?"
-What?
"The one that goes in a circle?"
-OOOHH!!! The Guggenheim! You wanted to go to the museum WITH modern art, not THE Museum of Modern Art.
;D
-And that's when we decided it was time to start thinking about dinner. ;)
-
So, Singdaw, how did you celebrate today?
-
I'm glad to hear the Ginny and Richard are ok.
-
I am so glad I changed my flight today. I would be in the air right now about over Ohio. I'm tired, but feeling better. Boo has found my lap. I am very happy to be home.
-
I did read the rest of The Almost Moon. It got better, but don't know that I'd recommend it
-
That is a lot of homes. Again, thanks for the update. Does she have phone service or using her cell phone?
Cell.
-
Did any DR tape and/or watch Shirley MacLaine's Coco?
I saw the last 90 minutesa last night.
-
Don't forget the Macbeths. ;)
I'm surprised a house didn't fall on her.
-
I'm surprised a house didn't fall on her.
That would be a tornado not a hurricaine ;D

I guess you won't be talking too often if she can't recharge it. Do you know if she will she be working tomorrow?
-
DR Cilla, GLAD you are home, and thanks for the book comments.
-
Thanks DR Jane

Watching The Hellfighters - haven't seen it since I attended a sneak preview at the Chinese theater. Didn't like it then, and don't much like it now.
You should have gone with the Rock Hudson movie.

Aaack!
-
So, Singdaw, how did you celebrate today?
By reading all the lovely comments here from all the great Dear Readers. :)
This morning the choir had a cake and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. When I got home, I opened all the cards that had arrived in the mail over this past week.
This afternoon I took a short nap.
We went to an organ recital in the late afternoon and then to the new Pizza joint which just opened in town. Very nice decor and great food.
So...nothing earth-shattering. But a nice day, nonetheless. [That's one word!]
-
Yes, it is good to read that DR Cillaliz is home safely and can get some well-needed rest before starting a new week.
-
I have returned from Silver Creek Falls. I am exhausted. We all had fun, but I didn't realize that it was Ramadan and Mustafa's daughter Noor was fasting. She chose not to go down the long winding trails due to not having eaten anything all day nor having any water or anything to drink, so Ali and I went...saw the caverns and walked under the waterfall. It is quite a treck but it is so beautiful.
Mustafa stayed with Noor until we returned and then he went and explored. Meanwhile I chatted with a [East] Indian couple while Noor and Ali tried to see if they could spot their father as he stood underneath the waterfall.
-
Aaack!
I'm sorry.
-
Is there such a thing as a "giant schnauser" breed? At least I think that's what one of the new basses in the choir said he had. 120 pounds?!?!?! His name is "Sherman."
-
The dog, not the bass.
-
Ali and Mustafa are not fasting. Ali likes food too much and Mustafa just doesn't see it as necessary. But Noor and Mustafa's wife, Maisa, were fasting...Maisa was not happy that Mustafa was not fasting and told the men that they had to fix their own meals, 'cause if she was not eating then she sure as heck wasn't going to be fixing their food!
I think fasting causes grumpiness! LOL!
....(although Maisa actually fixed a whole meal for me when we returned...she is so sweet!)
-
I really should give up coffee...but doggone it I have already given up smoking, drinking and most other vices. >:(
-
Well... I'm basically working 10-5 each day this week... And since I haven't been on that type of schedule for a while... And since I'm a little tuckered out after spending time with my brother and nephew... And since I've already nodded off three times in the past hour...
Goodnight.
*Although, I highly suspect I may end up showing up later or earlier on. We shall see...
-
Part of me wants to watch a movie...but I know that if I do I am going to fall fast asleep.
I must remain awake long enough to watch Big Brother tonight.
-
I really should give up coffee...but doggone it I have already given up smoking, drinking and most other vices. >:(
But weren't those vices given up by choice?
-
Is there such a thing as a "giant schnauser" breed? At least I think that's what one of the new basses in the choir said he had. 120 pounds?!?!?! His name is "Sherman."
Yup.

Yes.

-
Yup.
Thanks for the confirmation, DR Jane!
-
I really should give up coffee...but doggone it I have already given up smoking, drinking and most other vices. >:(
Keith slowly mixed decaf into his caffeinated coffee & is now very happy with half & half. Coffee isn't the problem, it's the caffeine. How much caffeine do you have a day?
-
....(although Maisa actually fixed a whole meal for me when we returned...she is so sweet!)
What did she make for you?

Yup.

I see you did your own search while I was pulling up links and photos for you ;D
-
I'm watching (or trying to) a movie called End Of The Spear - my friend and former classmate at LACC co-wrote and co-produced it. It's a Christian movie, and I went to the imdb where there are about twelve pages (more than most classic films) of ten-star reviews written by - wait for it - Christians. In fact, the only negative reviews (and they are few) are by disgruntled Christians who didn't like this or that, but especially didn't like that Chad Allen, who they say is an acknowledged HOMOSEXUAL, plays the lead, a non-HOMOSEXUAL. Apparently Christians do not believe in fairies.
-
I shan't be writing about it in the notes, however, so you may glean what you may from my comments above.
-
I'm still quite full from my two sandwiches, some Quakes, and a bag of 100 calorie cookies, and some carrots as a snack a few hours later.
-
Yes, it is good to read that DR Cillaliz is home safely and can get some well-needed rest before starting a new week.
Thanks! Glad you had a nice day.
-
I see you did your own search while I was pulling up links and photos for you ;D
Which I should have done myself first, before posting. But I've bookmarked your site!
Our Zach is a mix, we believe, but closely resembles a Hovawart profile. Perhaps we should have that doggie DNA test run!! :D
-
Keith slowly mixed decaf into his caffeinated coffee & is now very happy with half & half. Coffee isn't the problem, it's the caffeine. How much caffeine do you have a day?
I have about 4 cups of coffee total, a day. If I go out to dinner I might have another cup or two.
-
What did she make for you?
I don't know, but it was delicious
-
I have had, I think, two cups of coffee in my entire life - I hate the stuff. The only time I've had it (the two times) was on TV sets when I couldn't find anything else to drink first thing in the morning.
-
Don't forget the Macbeths. ;)
Sadly, I haven't heard about any houses landing on anyone!
-
Which I should have done myself first, before posting. But I've bookmarked your site!

I know we would want to, or I would. Keith thinks it only goes back 3 generations.
I enjoy browsing the breed site.

No dang it.

Apparently Christians do not believe in fairies.

I am a Christian, and I believe in fairies.
then clap your hands!!

Today was my very first time as the "lay reader"
that is NOT a euphenism
I am happy to report I did not trip on my way up to the pulpit, nor did I fall out of the pulpit and I managed to say the words as they were printed on the page
overall a success
-
LOL. Good job. Will you do it again?
-
I meant to mention that I saw THE SPIRAL ROAD on Saturday Night at the Movies many deacdes ago. I'm sure it was cut to fit on TV (most films back then were; GYPSY was and so was THE GREAT RACE, both shown over two nights and still they were cut.)
All I remember about it is that it was slow moving. I guess I was expecting something with Rock Hudson that was either funny like PILLOW TALK or weepy like A FAREWELL TO ARMS.
-
Apparently, those fundamentalists can't understand the concept of an actor ACTING a role that has nothing to do with himself. Impossible to be reasonable with that kind of thinking.
-
I began work on the box set of CRIMINAL MINDS tonight. I was able to watch 5 episodes. That surprised even me. Couldn't believe I got that many watched.
Of course, I didn't get to MICHAEL CLAYTON because I just kept watching those episodes, but I'll get to it at some point this week.
-
The first two episodes took care of the Mandy Patinkin walk-out, and the next three they just operated as a team without him. I'm thinking Joe Montagne must come into the show in the next episode or two.
BTW, these are all new to me. Though I enjoy CRIMINAL MINDS when I watch it, it is not a part of my usual rotation of procedurals during the season.
-
interestly enough, considering BK's remark is thatteh text I read for the seconds Lesson was from Romans 14:1-12.. where Paul is telling the new Christians to stop quarrelling amongst themselves -
To me, the most the pertinent passage is verse 10
"Why do you pass judgement on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgement seat of God"
I figure the people who call themselves Christians while spewing forth vile and hateful thoughts have missed the main point of Christ's teaching..love your neighbor as yourself
-
boy, one try at reading in church and suddenly I'm delivering sermons....
-
Michael O'Keefe played a creepy psychiatrist in one of the episodes, and the always gorgeous Eddie Cibrian was a serial killer in another.
-
boy, one try at reading in church and suddenly I'm delivering sermons....
Vixmom, if you gave sermons I might consider going to church!
-
I didn't get to MICHAEL CLAYTON, but I did get to tonight's TRUE BLOOD episode.
Enjoyed it very much except for the repetative sex scenes. A little bit of that goes a long, long way even when the participants are gorgeous.
Scary cliffhanger for next week's show.
-
LOL. Good job. Will you do it again?
Yes, I am up again in November.. The Vixter has also signed up to do it.
They only allow the "adults" in the church to read. She is to be confirmed on October 26 at which point she will be considered a full adult member of the congregation. She acts as the lay reader the following Sunday!
-
MattH, you mention of watching THE OFFICE dvd set has made me so eager for the new season to begin!
-
I ended my evening by watching tonight's ENTOURAGE. An average episode I thought, but it was good enough to keep me there another week.
-
Vixmom, if you gave sermons I might consider going to church!
:D :-*
Mikey, the work you are doing with those interpreters and their families sure looks to me exactly what Chrisitanity is supposed to look like
-
Mike, last night I saw a movie I thought you would like,. It is called The Namesake http://www.foxsearchlight.com/thenamesake/
although perhaps you only like the Indian movies with singing and dancing?
-
Happy 60th Anniversary to the parentes of JRAND!

Heading downstairs to bed now.
Good night!
-
night Matt

When someone tripped on the way up to the ark in synagogue, the rabbi quipped "Actually, Elaine fell for our congregation years ago."
-
Spent an hour on the telephonic device with our very own Mr. Nick Redman. I know what one of tonight's Varese club titles is, but not the other three or four.
-
It's one of those nights when I just don't feel like doing anything. Can't concentrate on a movie, not in the mood to start writing my article, so I sit here like so much fish, while a former dear reader is IMing me how much they are enjoying Murder At The Grove.

All that and page eleven, too.

Listening to my final Shearing CD of the day and evening, the divoon The Shearing Piano, a dessert island disc if ever there was one. It's pure magic from the first note to the last - his It Might As Well Be Spring is amazing, but so is every other track. In Spring, he manages to capture everything about Spring - it's like a three-act play.
-
Well it is nearly 1 in the AM here on the East Coast and my alarm is set for 6 AM
I refuse to be termed a Wussburger for going beddybyes....
Good night Bruce!
-
I'm still full - it's amazing that I can still be full but full I am.
-
I watched three episodes of THE NAME'S THE SAME. Brian Aherne was the guest host for all three while the regular host is doing something else.
The name of one of the contestants was A. Daddy. It was so hilarious to watch the panel figure out this person's name.
John Payne was a guest on another episode. What a wonderful looking guy he was!
-
Are those the Mary Poppins penguins??
They certainly looks like them. The link is not to an official Disney website.

-
So, BK...what did you think of Chad Allen's performance? Did he act "gay" to you?
-
IKE caused no damage to any refinery and there is no gas shortage and it's all a bunch of hoo-ha -
You know not of what you speak! IKE didn't have to "damage" the refineries - they were all closed down as a protective measure - and with the power outage problems in Houston, there will be a delay in getting them restarted; so - we already have a gasoline shortage in the pipeline! And some of the Gulf Oil wells were damaged, so there may well be a dip in crude supplies as well.
You should bone up on your facts if you're going to make "sound bites" declarations.

I remember well the gas "shortage" of the 1970s - only guess what - some years later it came to light that there was no shortage at all - none. Nada. Squat.
Wrong again! There were many local shortages brought about by hoarding - I remember many times there were stations with empty tanks - if you need gas and they have none to sell, there is a shortage! That there may be gas in the next county means nothing. An where, pray tell, is all your "it came to light" documentation - in a box on the grassy knowl?

Um, no. And no. No. You can believe what you will, as you always do - you believe what they want you to believe - I believe the facts. And that's what makes horse racing. And what, pray tell, is illegal hoarding? Does that not manufacture the shortage? Methinks it does. You can find the facts as easily as I did. The truth is out there.

There's one big diff here - you believe everything the oil companies want you to believe, and I don't. I have boned up on my facts and I've been told no damage to any oil refineries, hence any "shortage" and gas price rises will be the result of the oil industry taking advantage of this disaster - in other words, what else is new?

So, BK...what did you think of Chad Allen's performance? Did he act "gay" to you?
I didn't watch enough to see the major part of his performance (he plays both father in flashbacks, and son in present day) - but I remember when we had Chad Allen on Totally Hidden Video in a really funny bit.

Lets try one more time!
You don't need "damage" to a refinery to cause a shortage - you just need to shut it down - which they did! Closing a refinery in the event of a natural disater is not "taking advantage", it is prudence.

There is no shortage and if gas companies raise prices it is not prudence it is taking advantage and it's something the oil companies have a long history of doing. If you choose to not believe that, then I hope you were happy paying $4.75 and up at the pump earlier this year, and I hope you'll be happy paying it again.
