Well, you've read the notes, the notes were post-Christmas-like, and now it is time for you to post until the post-Christmas cows come home.

And the word of the day is: XERIC!
-
A Very Happy Day After Christmas, Everyone! ;D
-
In my CD player (or it will be, when I get to work in the morning): the original cast recording to The Glorious Ones with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty! It finally arrived (actually, it arrived a couple of days ago) and I can't wait to listen to it!
After that will be some CDs that I received from DR Elmore! Thanks, again! :-*
-
And now, I'm off to bed.
Good night, BK and any guests.

Hello, Dear Readers! :)
Spending a lovely three days at the Jersey shore. Lots of family, great and plentious food, good conversations and laughs, and the best of all: long walks on the beach while Zach frolics in the waves, chasing the seagulls. Today, as DR Tomovoz noted, is the Feast of Stephen. It is also my DH Jayson's birthday, so we will be celebrating that, as well.
Life is good!
-
DR vixmom, thanks for your wonderful Christmas posts. :) We did away with the adult gift exchange a few years ago. Christmas is just as nice now, only less expensive and less stressful.

It is a work day for me - oh well.

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm going to see another movie in a few hours.
*And once I see "Revolutionary Road", I'm either going to not see another movie for at least a month, or at least see something so bad and/or stupid just to balance out all the really "heavy" material I've seen lately. ;)

~~~~~SAFE AND SUCCESSFUL SURGERY VIBES TO DR VIXMOM~~~~~
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DH JAYSON!!!!
*Well, not my DH Jayson, but DR Singdaw's. Although... Well, nevermind.
And the word of the day is: XERIC!
And The Song Of The Day Is: ANOTHER HOT DAY
-
As for the Friday Media Check...
Well...
I finally listened to Aretha Franklin's "This Christmas" - after buying it week's ago - and it turned out to be a funnier - in a good way - CD than I thought it would be. The final track gave me a good smile and a true LOL during my subway ride home last night.
And I think the only other CD I "consciously" listened to was Bill Evans' "Conversations with Myself".
-
Hey, Jose - Do you happen to have the sheet music we talked about?
-
Happy birthday to Singdaw's Jayson!!!
-
Hey, Jose - Do you happen to have the sheet music we talked about?
Hold on... Lemme check my shelves...
-
DR FJL - AH! I do have it, but only in lead sheet form. -Which is the only other way it is published right now besides the vocal score. Sorry that doesn't exactly "help".
-
Jose - Lead sheet would be great - does it have the melody line - that's all i would need.
-
And I'm off to down that, well to "Revolutionary Road".
Laters...
-
Jose - Lead sheet would be great - does it have the melody line - that's all i would need.
Yes, it does. Lemme see if I can do a quick scan for you before I head out the door.
-
That's so great. Thanks!
-
Got it! Thanks, Jose - enjoy the movie!
-
Good morning, all! Happy Day After Christmas! Actually, this is the first day of Christmas, so I probably should wish you all a partridge in the proverbial pear tree.
Jo is working today, so Randy will drive her to work, then pick up a papaplegic friend and drive him to Cincinnati for a day of socializing and trashing about. I'm here with a bit of laundry and a lot of Babes In Toyland. Tonight, dinner with my friends Alan and Lilliane Freeman and their family.
DRvixmom, I'm glad the chocolates arrived by Christmas. Your story put a tear in my eye, and I'm so happy that your Christmas was so wonderful.
DR FJL, I'm happy to hear about the day's events, and if I weren't here, I would have no bigger wish than to be at your dinner party.
As to every other DR, post photos! It sounds as if you all had quite wonderful Christmases and we love photos.
TOD:
CD: I brought 4 with me to listen to in the car: BABES IN TOYLAND, HAVE A HEART, John Rutter Carols, and 18th-Century British Christmas music from the churches and countryside (now I want to see again the BBC adaptation of UNDER THE GREENWOOD TREE).
No DVDs or VCR till I get back to Manhattan.
DR Jane, re: the yaktrax question you asked yesterday (yaktrax are the things you put over your boots that stop you from slipping on ice).
I'm not an expert. But i have bought a pair before. and i have seen them demonstrated quite a few times. They are made for boots or running/tennis shoes. The only thing i would not put them on is high heeled shoes or fancy shoes (although who would do that anyways).
-
Yeah today is Boxing Day! Will probably leave for shopping at 11:30am.
It sort of sucks that stores are only allowed to open (here only) at 1pm. But at least there is no rushing around (i think other provinces can open as early as 8am).
Yesterday was quiet. I watched episodes 4-7 of TRUE BLOOD. I still have 8-12.
-
DR DakotaCelt, re: the Y&R classics show. Yes we had that one on Wednesday. Woah! I think it was from 1989. The hair. The make-up (wow that blush) and the eyebrows. It was shocking! I had never seen that episode so i watched with interest since it tied in to some of the storylines now (marge/katherine).
-
Okay now i'm officially crying. DR Vixmom what a wonderful story. Glad you had a nice Christmas!
-
Surgery vibes today for DR VIXMOM. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
Good morning!
It's gray today and mildly cool. Not supposed to get out of the 40s all day, so it looks like it's a perfect day to stay inside. I have my usual Friday errands to run, of course, but otherwise, it should be a completely indoor day. Glad I got to spend some time outdoors yesterday.
-
I am going to have a day for me today. Don't know what I'll be watching yet, but I'll find something good. I'm leaning right now to some films from either the latest Alice Faye or Carmen Miranda box sets. There are a couple of movies in those sets I've never seen, so that should be fun.
Friday Media Check:
DVD - THE LOST BOYS (Blu-ray)
GREENWICH VILLAGE
DVR - DISTURBIA
It was interesting to watch that episode and you are right it did tie into a current storyline.
Did you see Tracey Bregman's hair? Hers and Melody Thomas Scott had some VERY HIGH bangs! On one of the soapboards said the episode was from 1988 or 89.
Some of the earrings and hair could have passed as weapons!
Jose, I watched Revolutionary Road last night. Intense going. I started out disliking the discomfort of the whole thing a lot; then came around to where I really admired it. I'm still not sure I liked it or not.
BOY do the HHW VIbes work here or WHAT!
At 5:3o this AM we set off for the hospital - I checked in at 6 AM, was put on the gown and set up in the presurgical area. We did all the paperwork, met with the anestheologist and his nurse. The nurse scrubbed up the surgical sites and then the surgeon came in. He took a look at the site where the port is and said
"I really think that this rash is clearing up and this port will be usable."
He went off and called my chemo oncolgist and they conferred and then he came back and told me, " Go on home, the surgery is off - you are going to stick with the port you already have!"
We just got home and Vixdad took the Vixter out to spend some of the Christmas money she got at the KB Toys the store a mile down the road is closing their doors. Apparently they are selling Wii games at 80% off!!
So how's THAT for another Christmas Miracle?
What is that song ? 100,000 Miracles?
Not alot to watch on DVD this weekend. I've got to review:
I'm going out to do a couple of errands and then Richard and I will catch Australia before it completely disappears from the big screens.
Bye for now!
So glad to hear the Vixmom's surgery was canceled today. What a way to celebrate Boxing Day!
-
Big Brother is Listening Department: Something really spooky happened last night. I posted yesterday that I had constructed a correct original version of Brasil 66's neat little version of Christmas Song. I had to edit some WAV files I had to reconstruct Sergio's Rhodes solo correctly. Anyhoo, I named the file B66Chestnuts in both WAV and MP3 format. So I had been playing it on Windows Media Player all day, and suddenly last night, Media Player all of a sudden changed the name to Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 Christmas Song! It even brought up the compilation CD that the *incorrect* version had been on (even though the source files didn't come from it). Isn't that weird?
-
Terrifically wonderful news for DR Vixmom!
Happy Birthday to DR singdaw's DH Jayson!
Great news, Vixmom. Did your Christmas present get there yet? If not, it should come today or tomorrow, I would expect.
-
And Happy Boxing Day and Feast of Stephen and Day After Christmas to all and one and one and all!
-
Spent this morning washing a ton of glasses and cups and a few odds and ends. Cleaned up the living room and dining room. Dug through the two bags of Christmas wrapping trash to see if anything valuable was accidentally tossed in and to determine if any of the paper was recycleable.
I'm thinking of heading out to the stores. There's nothing that I really want or need out there--maybe some trousers and shoes for office wear, maybe some Hallmark ornaments that should be 50% off today.
Or maybe I'll just sit around all day. That would be a nice change of pace.
I've been working hard, and, since there's a lot of thunder with today's rain, poor Maddie, the German shephed, is having major panic attacks. Jo's called me to close her bedroom door so Madddie cannot try to burrow through the bedclothes, and I think i may have to open the closet so she can hide in there. Whenever I move, I'm closely stalked by a quivering dog. I feel so sorry for her.
I'm sending more vibes for health, peace of mind, whatever anyone needs today!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dan (the Man) , THE CHEATERS is a very bizarre movie. Nice idea that is not properly executed. Lot of nice talent with nothing to do.

Hmmm. We haven't heard from DR Kerry. I wonder if he survived the preparation of the relish tray.

Hi everyone. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, and all that jazz. Today is a day for doing nothing. The DP and I have a friend over and we just made some breaky and are watching "The Dark Knight"
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up and COLLLLLD - it's sixty in the home environment. Heat is, needless to say, on. Skies are very blue but wind is very intense, hence the Airport Extreme and/or modem did its usual "losing the signal" routine - very tiresome. I restarted the computer, didn't help. I unplugged the modem and Airport Extreme, waited a minute, re-plugged, and voila.
-
I slept very well and much later than I have in ages - ten-thirty.
-
Wonderful news about the vixmom miracle.
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to singdaw's ever-lovin' Jason.
-
Say what? Page three? You'd think it was the day after Christmas or something. Trying to decide about the long jog - it's really windy out. I guess I'll step outside and see how cold it is.
-
I am taking it nice and easy today.
-
Twisted Nerve is sold out.
-
Someone's got to take us to page four -
-
And it may as well be me. It's quite chilly out and quite windy, so either I'll wait to do the jog or I'll take the day off, jog-wise.

Well, I decided not to go to work today. I actually had scheduled the day off, but with the problems on Tuesday (cat issues and being stuck in the snow), I was going to come into work today to make up a little time. However, my dad called this morning and asked if I could drive him on a couple of errands (his truck is totally stuck in the snow at home) so I'm taking the vacation day. :)
-
I still can make up a little time tomorrow...if I want. ;)
-
I hear Seattle only has a small number of snow plows...

Just heard a dandy for an overdue book...
My lung had a tendon failure and can you wave the fine.
If I remember right there are no tendons in the lung

All time best excuse for an overdue book!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO SING SONG'S JAYSON
-
It was cold when I went out on my errands, and I had to wear a heavy jacket. A little windy, too, at noon, though the wind seems to have died down some.
-
I got a bunch of review discs today, too, including the new (unnecessary) DVDs of FUNNY FACE and BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS. I haven't looked at them yet, but I'll just bet Paramount ported over the last remastered transfers of these two. (They did use new transfers for the first Centennial releases, but those transfers were much older.) They're two disc sets, so I'm sure the bitrates on the movies are much higher than the last issues, and they may end up looking a TINY bit sharper, but probably not that noticeable on my set-up. If I had a 100" projection screen, it might be more noticeable.
Also got the sequel to NATURE'S CALLING that came with its own pool floatie. This PR swag is SO ridiculous most of the time (I have gotten a few nice PR things since I took over the Paramount account a year ago, but most of it is really lame.)
-
Still, I'm taking the day off. I'll do FUNNY FACE tomorrow. All of these discs come out on January 16th.
-
I watched an NCIS episode while I ate lunch. It featured a simply marvelous child actor (his character's father had been kidnapped, a nice twist on the usual story), but I had this one figured out early.
-
I went ahead and watched another NCIS episode so I could finish up with disc 2 in the box. This one had Ziva and Tony working undercover as married assassins. I'm guessing this is where the whole sexual byplay between Ziva and Tony got started, and it was an entertaining show even if there really wasn't much mystery to it.
-
Hi, everyone!
Jayson says a huge THANK YOU to all the kind Hainsie-Kimlets for the birthday wishes! :)
The presents, eating, walking, and laughing are continuing apace.
DR elmore3003 is right; I should try to take some pics.
-
SOOOOO great to hear the news about DR vixmom!!!!! Hoo and Ray!!!!!! :) :) :) :)
-
I spent a large chunk of the afternoon watching the Carmen Miranda-Vivian Blaine musical GREENWICH VILLAGE. This is the movie famous for the screen debut of The Revuers, the cabaret act that featured Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Judy Holliday. The Revuers gets screen credit, but if they did a number in the movie, it got cut since the three of them are basically extras in the movie. Comden and Green are pretty easy to spot; each gets a scene with the stars, but if you blink, you'll miss Judy Holliday as one of the gang in a couple of places.
The Technicolor is wonderful in this film, very lush and vibrant. Vivian Blaine is talented, but she just doesn't have much of a spark on screen. She's kind of a second tier Alice Faye (only with red hair). No wonder she never became a really big star.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke-Brian-Noah, but they were certainly featured in the previews.
-
I finished the afternoon watching a favorite LAW & ORDER episode from 1996. This was the Benjamin Bratt years, and he and Jerry Orbach worked so well together. Carey Lowell was the ADA, not my favorite of the brunette ADAs, but OK.
-
Happy birthday to DR Singdaw's dear Jayson!
-
Good Afternoon!
I believe I am officially movie'd out. -Although, I may go ahead and catch "Waltz with Bashir" tomorrow morning. ;)
-
Got it! Thanks, Jose - enjoy the movie!
You're very welcome, Fred.
*Oh, I know I have the score too somewhere in my boxes, so if you do need the verse... But it may take me a day or two to locate it.

As for "Revolutionary Road"...
Jose, I watched Revolutionary Road last night. Intense going. I started out disliking the discomfort of the whole thing a lot; then came around to where I really admired it. I'm still not sure I liked it or not.
Agreed, and I'm not sure I really like it or not either. I admired it greatly, but it's a hard film to "like" - which is also how I felt after seeing "The Wrestler" yesterday.
After seeing the movie, I finally read a few more of the reviews, and I can see where and why some critics have had problems with the movie. Pulling off a movie where the two lead characters are essentially unlikeable is a very hard thing to pull of, and Sam Mendes almost does it. I really did like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, but it was the casting of the smaller parts that really impressed me: Kathy Bates, Richard Easton, Mike Shannon, David Harbour, Kathryn Hahn, Zoe Kazan - even Max Casella in what is essentially a bit part. (I even recognized a couple of "New York Faces" in the background - Christopher Fitzgerald, Heidi Armbruster, etc.)
I felt that the movie had a couple of false endings - and a too many brooding close-ups, but once we got to the final sequence, well... The final montage did "incur" a couple of laughs and giggles, but as it all started to settle in, you realized that that was what the whole movie was essentially about. -And the laughter in the movie started to die down.
I guess the biggest sign that I didn't really love it is that I was "distracted" by the production and costume design. The recreation of mid-1950s suburban Connecticut and New York City was spot on. The outfits for Kate Winslett were always well done, and just when you thought you she already looked beautiful, she would appear in a "beautiful dress", and WOW! But even her simple house dresses were scrupulously well-tailored. *I guess it helps to be married to the director. ;)
-
-And I really do like the 10:00am matinees. Not only is it only a $6.00 ticket, but they've never been sold out or crowded, and since it's generally an older crowd, it's also a bit quieter and less technologically "enabled". -Only two cell phones going off over the past three weekends! *I may even go back to see "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" just to have a more pleasant movie-going experience.
-

Also, I have a strange tale to tell you all. I had a dream last night, and it was really scary whie I was in it, but I told Mom and Dad about it and we couldn't stop cracking up. So here I go.
I was in a Post-Apoctaliptic town with my parents, and everyone on this site. we were a group of people who still wanted to live in this town peacefully. I don't really know why; all the buildings were on fire and collapsing, and dead people were lying around everywhere, it was horrible. And there was another group of people who were around the town somewhere who also wanted to live here. But for some reason, we couldn't live together, and we had all decided (both groups) to blow the other "team" all to pieces. SO, our "team" was having a pep talk on how to flush the other group out, in order to shoot them down, and someone brought up the subject of "bait".
Two minutes later, I was tied to the front of an SUV, in a x shape, and we were on our way, driving at a compleatly homicidal speed. Of course, I freaked out and started screaming, But Bruce leaned out the window of the driver's seat ( he was driving) and yelled"Shut up!! You'll give away our position!!!!" So I shut up. Meanwhile, Bruce, Fred, and Jose were all holding those guns you see soldiers carrying around, and shooting at people out of there windows. And Bruce was STILL driving, even though those guns take two hands to hold. Also, all three men had on war paint. And it was horrible, we shoot down ALOT of people, and ran a couple over, and then we pulled over to a partial brick wall.
At this point, a random woman who I swear I have never seen before in my life, with really messed up brown hair jumps in front of the now staitionary veicle, starts petting me like a two year old would pet a dog on the head ( otherwise known as, painfully) and was shrieking at the top of her voice at me "YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD KID!!!! YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD KID!!!!!" At this point, Mom came out of the car, and shot the woman, then looked at me and said somthing along the lines of, " Your old teachers are really stupid, you know that?"
At this point, Mom woke me up to tell me that she and Dad were going to the doctor's now. I said good-bye, locked the door after them, and then was scared out of my wits for the next ten minutes because I didn't want to go back to sleep. After the ten minutes was up, I think I passed out on my bed for about two more hours.
This experiance has taught me three important things.
1) I should write action movies about the Apocolypse.
2) I never want to play " Chicken", or any other stupidly car based game where people can die.
3) NEVER eat M+M's fifteen minutes before you go to sleep.
Love,
Vixter.

the aroma of spaghetti sauce wafts deliciously about
me as I type this short post.
Today I mailed three (count 'em three) boxes to myself
filled with wonderful foodstuffs that I cannot procure in
Oakland CA. I also got two more boxes, brought them
home and they are now packed and ready to go.
I'm going to have loads of wonderful foodstuffs to put
the "r" in my "larder".
This evening, my aunt and uncle will be dining with us and
having spaghetti. I made a huge pot full so my mom can freeze
the sauce and have it later when she wants it.
I still have Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning left to do any
of the things I might recall needing doing. Frankly, I think it's all
done, but I'm certain we'll find something more to do.

Jennifer,
Just a heads up Don Diamont aka Brad is leaving Young and the Restless
I think he was fired!
Yes i did know he was leaving. I don't do spoilers but i do check out casting changes.

Great news for Vixmom!

Okay, I'm wondering who everyone else thinks that woman is in the vixter's
nightmdream. The "random woman" with the "really messed up brown hair."
Could it have been a Hainsie/Kimlet that the vixter's subconscious concocted from posts she has read here?
Hmmmmmm....??

Shopping was good. Got to the mall at 11:45am. It officially opened at 1pm. But the food court was open. And the deli. And a bunch of stores that open early every year.
I went to Sephora (they opened about 10 minutes early). And also to Hallmark (they discount 50% extra on all their Christmas/Chanukah stuff.
There was a huge line-up at HMV. ANd also at a "game" store. The weirdest huge line-up for me was at the store formerly called PINK (it goes by some longer name now). They had a sign that said everything extra 50%. The line was ridiculously long outside the store and then inside the store at the cash.
By 4pm when i left the mall was so crowded. ALthough it was really really crowded at 12:50pm as well. And at that time everyone was walking in the aisles.
It wasn't too bad leaving because the stores stay open on friday till 9pm.

It's terribly foggy here tonight and i have to drive in about 30 minutes from the country into town for dinner. I could use some driving vibes tonight, please. Please?

No, I'm serious, I have NEVER seen a person like this before. It was crazy. I mean, take a normal looking lady, rip up her sleeves and jeans, give her Hermione Granger hair-o-heel, and place her in a senario like my dream, and you got her. Besides, I don't think she couldv'e been from the site if I hadn't met her on here yet, and the fact that everyone from the site was either in the SUV, or probaboly back at base camp shooting some squirrls or somthing... in the mean time, I have decieded to dub this woman "Hell Lady."

* * * * * Driving Vibes for DR Elmore * * * * *

Remember Peggy - our foster Pit Bull - the one Magic Mommy wouldn't let in the house because "pit bulls are vicious and I won't have one near my children".
Then there is Son-law who insisted:
A. He only wanted a pure - breed, and not but not a puppy.
B. Wanted to visit the pet stores to look for dogs
C. Thought maybe a Labradoodle was the best choice
Well meet Dixie - Local SPCA resident:

The SPCA saya she was surrendered by her owner prior to his incarceration.
She is a "Labrador Pit Bull - mix" (Puppycock - mainly Pit with a bit of husky/shepard throwb in)
10-12 month old - just spayed by the SPCA
Unforntunately the pound had a medical hold on her until tomorrow - and won't reserve an adoption - so it's first come first served after 10AM.
Son-and-Law and Grandlads will be gone tomorrow bright and early to deer hunt - William (the 8 year old) needs to test out the 20 gauge shotgun Santa brought) He did test fire it in the yard and the blew bejeezus out a gallon plastic jug at about 20 yards - So magisMommy getes to make the trek back down all by her self - (we did go pick out a large wire kennel and medium sized travel-crate.)
I just hope to deal just get re-thought!
Dixis had onviously graduated from the "how to get adopted " course with flying colors - no jumping, greeted everybody, fetched the ball, walked on the leash, and other than sniffing, ignored a whole room full of cats in kennels.

Some crazy stuff is happening on that show!
Crazy, but Crazy-Good!
Yep. And i can't believe i did not know that this was based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris. Has anybody read them?
After i finish the HBO series i will look into reading them. Although for some reason my library only has number 8 (of 8). I will check to see if my sister's library has them. If not i may see if my library can get them.

Just do a search. There were no spoilers posted. Even DR MattH and myself mentioned that we were watching the series.

It's funny i just did a search re: td's posts. And the odd thing is that i remember reading the post before. But i guess at the time i did not put two and two together. Since the books were referred to as southern vampire mysteries.
I don't know if the books are similar to the tv show. But i don't find TRUE BLOOD the tv show to be similar to the TWILIGHT series.

Of course not! The "True Blood" series is most definitely geared towards adults. -Which is why the vampires on "True Blood" have sex. Often.

Well, I went out this afternoon and hit the nearby Moorestown Mall. I bought a couple of pairs of Dockers at Sears. And then I saw that almost all of their men's shoes were on sale at 50% off. I spent about 20 minutes deciding between three different pair. I took my selected shoe up to the salesgirl and asked for a size 12 1/2. She told me that they didn't carry half sizes over 11!
Grrrrrrrr...

DerBrucer, I would fear guns in the house (especially a gun in the hands of a child) more than a sweet pit bull. But maybe that is just me.

I went to the Gap - I'd heard every store everywhere was having huge fifty to seventy percent off sales. Not the Gap - twenty-five percent on bad items. Feh. Had some spaghetti, which was excellent.

My dad kept a gun locked up in my parents' bedroom bureau. He always said it was for protection. When he died and we went through his things, we found the gun but there was no ammo.

Well, it's just a common fact of life in rural southern culture - a shot gun for a kid is almost as common as a baseball bat. Frankly, I think it's safer for him to be properly exposed to firearms than to experiment with them later on. Before he could get his license, William (age 8) had to pass a formal gun safety course.
And his familiarity with fire arms means he knows how to handle them safely, and he hits what he aims at. You rarely hear of a kid with proper safety training hurting himself or others. You're a lot safer around a teen-age hunter than you are around a teen-age driver!

Intesting side note consdering Danise troubles with the SPCA - this group has a policy that if you already have a dog, they require you to bring your animal in to meet the prospective adoptee to make sure they get along.
-
I guess Dale Wasserman makes three - Pinter, Kitt, Wasserman.
I used to know Dale...through Nina Foch, who also passed just recently.
He was a very, warm friendly man.
There have certainly been a lot of show biz deaths this past month or so. I can't remember a time when there have been so many in such a short period.

Good evening all. I am home! It was a LONG drive there was very dense fog for the first 70 miles or more. It took me 2 hours to drive what usually takes 1 hour. I considered turning back, but it's warm enough out that the roads were just wet and I could see 100 feet, so I kept going. I'm glad I did. It's going to get cold by tomorrow with snow and all the wet roads may get slick.

It was a nice visit. I just decided to go with the flow and we all got along well. it started with being asked if I was going to leave on Christmas day because of th e weather forecast for today. I thought about it and then decided I wasn't going to spend all my time there stressing about it and just said "No, I'll wait and see what happens on Friday" after that things were fine. It was nice to see everyone.

Last March, my parents went through Greensburg, KS on their way home from Arizona. Greensburg is the town that was wiped out by a tornado and is rebuilding green. The Discovery Channel did a 13 part series on the town. They filmed Dad talking to the mayor and he had to sign a release. The staff at the office (my dad and brother's law office) bought the DVDs of the show for my dad for Christmas. So, lol, we spent most of the past 2 days in Greensburg. We watched all 13 hours of it. It was wonderfully done.
-
The church service at 11:00 PM Christmas Eve was really nice. Most of the altos were out of town so they were VERY happy to see me there. It was fun to sing in that choir again and it really felt like Christmas.
-
Just watching stuff.

Yep, Bravo - which is owned by NBC/GE - is the home of "Top Chef".

Tomorrow morning I'm going to get the paint to do the hallway and stairs going down the basement. I'm hoping to get the paint done and the wall paper put up on the two walls in the hall that will be wall papered. Then I just have to seal any cracks in the cement floor and make sure I get off the lumps left from the drywalling etc and I'll be ready for the carpet installers. I can't wait to get it all lightened up. I may get the paint for the bathroom down there too and if all is going well get that painted.

May the Dear Sons of DR Jane and Laura DR feel back up to snuff very soon!!!!!!!!!
Thank you. Unfortunately DS Craig felt worse this today. I always worry about flying with a cold so we stopped at the pharmacy on the way to the airport for nose drops & decongestant for he & Ioana. We dropped the whole gang off since their flights are only an hour apart-very convenient.

Such wonderful news from DR VIXMOM!
And I neglected to put in my birthday greetings for Jayson the DH of DR SINGDAW....at least it's still Friday!
DR VIXTER - your dream blew a fuse in the Dream-O-Matic 6000, however it is my best guess that the combination of rushing life experience and instant communication makes for some integrated wiring in the REM dream state.
In other words - dreams are a fun place to visit, but their are no guidebooks or maps. Enjoy the trip.
-
DR DtM - DR CP is correct. I thought THE CHEATERS was a great premise pretty much spoiled by a typical REPUBLIC treatment.....interesting cast, but scripted with little imagination considering the premise. A couple of the young actresses were also incapable of carrying their roles.

Will be interested to hear MR BK's take on OM SHANTI OM.

We are very tired after our hectic & exciting celebrations. I wish ex DR Panni/Anna’s movie KISS AT MIDNIGHT were on tonight instead of tomorrow night at 9:00. I believe DR TCB posted the link awhile back & it looks like fun & would be perfect. http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/publish/consumer/home/shows/a_kiss_at_midnight.html
Oh well, as long as I watch it before New Years, even though it is on again on the 2nd, I'll be happy.
I'm surprised it doesn't mention Hal Linden as also starring. We are looking forward to seeing him.

I just checked my e-mail from the office and it appears I received a bonus in this year of the downturn. I'm very glad that my time spent in the RH was rewarded. Shall I put it into my IRA or shall I put it into my savings account and use it sometime in 2009? Hmmm, I'll have to ponder that one. I guess it depends on what my taxes look like with and without the IRA deposit. I sure would like to use some of it on something, though I don't know what.
Anthony is watching New Tricks and I'm in another room on the computer. I've been playing a game called 4 Elements. I needed to stop because my hand hurts from using the mouse. It's OK when I type but it's sore while I play the game. I think that's a sign to stop and say hello to my cyber friends (you people out there in the dark).
Hello!
-
Thanks DR Jane. It was a strange drive home. For most of the way I could only see about 100 feet...well one telephone pole at a time, sometimes 2 and could never really see where I was. I know the route very well, so I knew about where I was, but I couldn't see it until I got there.
-
Drives like that are very scary. We let out big sighs of relief once we had made it up our road & driveway. Our scary drive only lasted a few minutes though it seemed much longer.

I was suprised to see that the first episode was in colour but the next three were black & white

Happy Birthday DH Jayson!

DR Jane, the drive in the fog wasn't that scary to me, just tiring. Every one was driving very slowly and I did know where I was even if I couldn't see it. I chose to drive through that rather than risk driving on slick roads. That scares me a lot more
-
JMK - I don't think anyone brought in the mail today! Since it's nearly 11 PM and I'm in my jammies, I think I 'll leave it until the AM - we have one of those big rural mailboxes so whateveris in there should be safe.

Good evening. I just home from the hospital. I doubt that Stan will make it thru the weekend. Chances are he won't make it thru the night. His kidneys have completely shut-down, and the other organs are starting to follow. He had several seizures this afternoon that were pretty frightening. When Mark and I left him tonight, they had just given him some morphine to ease his labored breathing.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and vibes.

Watched two radically different movies tonight.
I began with DISTURBIA which was about 40% good and the rest irritating and outrageous. And I think the two young people in the film had about the least chemistry in a movie that I've seen in awhile. And, of course, the entire problem with the neighbor could have been avoided if the mother and son had TALKED to each other, long before things got out of hand. Of course, if they had done that, there would have been no film.
-
I found that Disturbia was about 0% good - one of the all-time clunkers. Literally hated every second of it - as I wrote here when I was unfortunate enough to see it.
-
I'm figuring out what I should watch next.
-
Next, I put in the Blu-ray of A ROOM WITH A VIEW. I've had the Blu-ray for months, but just hadn't gotten around to watching it. It's a near-masterpiece with superb casting, gorgeous photography, and such a terrific sense of time and place. I always love revisiting it.
It isn't the sharpest Blu-ray I have in my collection, but it's worlds better than the DVD I had.
The sound is DTS-HD High Resolution. I think this is the ONLY disc I own that has that flavor of DTS surround sound. Most Blu-rays that use DTS use DTS-HD Master Audio which is actually the highest lossless codec available for DTS. Yet, the DTS-HD HR sounded just as good to my ears, especially with the sound mix that isn't about things blowing up or obects flying around the room.

I found that Disturbia was about 0% good - one of the all-time clunkers. Literally hated every second of it - as I wrote here when I was unfortunate enough to see it.
I knew you couldn't stand it. I liked the premise. I wish they had gone in a less predictable direction with it.
-
But, now having seen it, I won't have to see it again.
-
When I finished A ROOM WITH A VIEW, I shut everything off downstairs and came up to start writing my FUNNY FACE review. No, I won't watch this new DVD until tomorrow, but having seen the film about 50 times, I figured I could get the movie part of the review done and be that far ahead when the time comes tomorrow night to start writing about the new package.

OK, my evening internet surf is concluded, so I think I'll head down to bed now.
Good night!

DR DtM - DR CP is correct. I thought THE CHEATERS was a great premise pretty much spoiled by a typical REPUBLIC treatment.....interesting cast, but scripted with little imagination considering the premise. A couple of the young actresses were also incapable of carrying their roles.
Hoo, boy! You and DR CP aren't kidding! I think this is the first time I thought Robert Osbourne was overhyping a TCM movie--this ain't no classic! When Billie Burke started sobbing in the middle of the movie I think it was because she couldn't wait to scrape the inch of pancake off her face and get this turkey over with.
-
Cilla, I just got your card tonight, thanks!!
DR Jane, I got your card a few days back and forgot to mention it...I love it!

I napped in the recliner for a good part of the day and tehn I watched the first disc from my Christmas present from Vixdad - the complete Upstairs Downstairs all 68 episodes - it also includes all 13 episoded of Sarah & James - the followup series
I was suprised to see that the first episode was in colour but the next three were black & white
DR Vixmom, I've been wanting to buy the UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS set for myself for years. Maybe 2009 will be the year!
-
I'm so very sorry to hear about Stan, TCB. Sending you hugs of comfort and vibes for peace.

Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I had to share one of my favorite Christmas presents. I was thinking mine is Jesus but it may be Mary. I laughed so hard I almost cried. Yes, now you too can see Mary in your morning slice of toast ;D It's called Holy Toast
I plan to try it out tomorrow. I have been told to take photos and email them to everyone who was there
-
This is what I gave the friend who gave me the Holy Toast. We give each other very silly stuff every year

My memory is that there was some strike going on in the BBC at the time but the details are fuzzy.
I survived the fog both ways but it was one of the scariest drives I've ever taken.

Hey, Cillaliz, I understand that toast with Mary can bring lots of money! The casinos seem to buy them up!
-
On a happier note, I found my camera, and now I can share a few pictures of our Christmas
First, this is how Toby spent most of his first Christmas morning -

Awwww. Nice photos, Ann. Thanks for posting them.

My holy toast was a regift. Carol just couldn't let it fade to obscurity and knew I'd love it. I'm going to make a slice, take a photo and tell my sister it just came out of the toaster that way. I think she'll know it isn't real, but she can sometimes be gullible, so we're all hoping for another good laugh. She'll laugh too.

DR TCB, I am so sorry that your friend Stan is declining rapidly. I can only wish him what I wished for my dad: a speedy and painless departure from this world. I send my love and sorrow to you for your loss.
-
DR Elmore glad you made it through the fog safely.

That makes me think of the gum in Willie Wonka that is a whole meal...but the dessert is a problem...

We had a fabulous dinner last night. My mom made a beef tenderloin and with the input of about 5 of us, it came out perfectly. We also had her special potatoes (sort of like twice baked without the shell of the potato) candied sweet potatoes, ambrosia salad, and lots of other things. My brother made a fabulous chocolate pecan bourbon pie with a graham cracker crust. I had a tiny sliver. It was fantastic.
I did track my food and if I don't go overboard for the next 5 days, I managed to stay within my weekly points. I am amazed.
-
I went to lunch today with some friends and my mother. We went to a mexican restaurant and I had the best Chimichanga I've ever had.
For dinner I had lean cuisine.......
-
Ok, time to sign off. I have a lot to do tomorrow. I'm going to work on the basement, but have to check out some sales.

DerBrucer, I would fear guns in the house (especially a gun in the hands of a child) more than a sweet pit bull. But maybe that is just me.
I agree also...

Okay, I'm wondering who everyone else thinks that woman is in the vixter's nightmdream. The "random woman" with the "really messed up brown hair."
Could it have been a Hainsie/Kimlet that the vixter's subconscious concocted from posts she has read here?
Hmmmmmm....??
;D
I have several ideas but I'm keeping mum. Could it be someone who posts infrequently?
It's terribly foggy here tonight and i have to drive in about 30 minutes from the country into town for dinner. I could use some driving vibes tonight, please. Please?
No, I'm serious, I have NEVER seen a person like this before. It was crazy. I mean, take a normal looking lady, rip up her sleeves and jeans, give her Hermione Granger hair-o-heel, and place her in a senario like my dream, and you got her. Besides, I don't think she couldv'e been from the site if I hadn't met her on here yet, and the fact that everyone from the site was either in the SUV, or probaboly back at base camp shooting some squirrls or somthing... in the mean time, I have decieded to dub this woman "Hell Lady."
sometimes... it is the scary ones you cant place

Cilla _ At the Christmas eve party we went to, someone was given the Holy Toast, and when he turned it over there was a little designer's "signature" that said Fred. Does your also say that?

I'm finished viewing for the evening. I started to watch Om Shanti Om but the disc, which came from amazon, had come off its hub and was ridiculously scratched and scuffed. I found this out because as I was attempting to skip the endless intro by going directly to the menu, the disc froze, froze my player so that I had to unplug and re-plug, and then when I got it out of the player I saw the sad tale. I used a cloth and cleaned it up as best I could but rather than take a chance on the den DVD player, I put it on in the bedroom, where I got to the menu fine, and started the film, which was preceded by an endless Bollywood Western Union commercial. So, I'll watch it in the bedroom over the next few nights.

Tomorrow our very first light rail route will open. Maybe now we will be a world-class city.
We seem to forever be on a quest to become a world-class city.

Laura,
The SPCA had a whole room full of cats for adoption - and none of them near as cute as the orange kitty!
der Brucer
-
Awww. I hope they all get adopted, too.
-
Awww. I hope they all get adopted, too.
Not likely - no one was even looking - and they did a rotten job of displaying the critters; the top up-front cages were filled with a bunch on non descript, uninteresting looking, very disinterested cats; one cage on the very bottom in the corner had a pair of cute grey tabbies that you had to kneel down to see - the older cats were either very tired and content or were doped up a bit.
-
Well, I will hope for them, anyway.
-
SPCA cats - continued:
The cages were stacked 3 tall and were in a windowless room with poor lighting. None of the cages had any toys of any sort, none of the cats had collars (which adds color). I tried to get a closer look at one cat sleeping in the back of the cage - it seemed the cat was actually a solid silver gray - much like TCB's.

So do I - I just wish someone would make an effort to showcase them; as nasty as it sounds, the place looked like a chinese meat market.

Which would bring more profit, do you think, the cat house or the mustang ranch?

Just listening to CDs and playing on the Internet. Not much going on, I must say.

:'( Man of La Mancha has a very special place in my heart. It was the very first community theater show that I performed in Olympia, in December of 1989. Wow...that was 19 years ago this month! It was also the first show that I did twice, the second time was in 1995 or 1996. And the second production was the first time that I had a "lead" role, Sancho Panza. :)
-

It all comes doen to location, location, location...
It Nevada, definitely the Mustang Ranch
In Texas, the Chicken Range
In New Orleans, the Cat House
In your neck of the woods - Casa de Gato

I think it is all very sad, Der Brucer. I was fortunate that I was able to make a deal with my contact and spare The Little Orange Kitten from some of the stresses of the shelter. She was only there for surgery and recovery, then got out an hour after they opened for adoptions.
Come spring I need to carry out my end of the bargain.
She is cute and affectionate and healthy, so I know she will be just fine, even though we all miss her.
