Well, you've read the notes, the notes took their own sweet time, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - time is currently on their side and they don't like that one or even two whits.

TOD:
When I was about 12, my family visited China and Hong Kong. This was just after China had been opened up for tourism. On the last night, all the people in our tour were treated to a very fancy 12 course meal. I don't remember much of the details, except that it went on for hours. There was a soup served in a scooped out melon. And there was saki. Lots and lots of saki, and toasts.
Maybe that's why I don't remember more about the meal itself.
-
Why am I still up? I must get my beauty sleep now.

Then get to it, man! :)

I am wanting to do my jogging, but it is raining here... :(

Good morning, all! I' leaving soon for Music Theay=tre International, where I shall drop off the second act of MOST HAPPY FELLA before heading down to Carpetland. I have no idea what will be the results of today's meeting; it could be good and it could be ugly. What I'm hoping for is a review of the project and plans for its continuation, but I'm also aware that it could be unpleasant for reasons I cannot go into.
Today, DRs, my colleagues and I could use some vibes!
-
VIbes, prayers, and hugs to Elmore and his colleagues!
-
I don't know if it was the biggest meal I've ever eaten, but it was certainly the most memorable.
I was in Layfayette, LA, with my client Steve Kanaly ("Dallas"). He was appearing at a rodeo there, and one day the people who were in charge took us out to this restaurant on a bayou where we had the most delicious meal of crawfish, catfish, jambalaya and Southern-style cheesecake. Unbelievably delicious.
In fact, I was so taken with the cheesecake that, when I came back to Los Angeles, I talked to the owner of Junior's, a deli that I was representing at the time, and suggested that he switch from his NY-style cheesecake to the Southern-style...and he did.
-
Good vibes for Elmore and his colleagues.
-
I suppose there's a good reason why I'm up at five-thirty, but I'm going back to bed to figure it out.

Thursday morning greetings! It's very cool here in SW Ohio - it was downright COLD last night.
It's have a no-obligation day, but I do have some errands and 3 gifts to prepare - 1 graduation, 1 birthday, and 1 wedding.

And the word of the day is: DETERGE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I'M GONNA WASH THAT MAN RIGHT OUTA MY HAIR

Oh, I know why I'm probably up. I'm probably up because I'd asked my webgal to go "live" when she got home last night, if possible. That was apparently too difficult, but I also added "otherwise please do it first thing in the morning." She's on the East Coast so I figured it would be up, as it was last time I had to go through this with her. Apparently that was too difficult, and in looking at her e-mail response when she sent me the link to approve it at three o'clock yesterday (I approved it at three-ten), she said she was headed out and it would go live today. Of course, that could mean anything, which is why I replied at three-ten, please do it when you get home or first thing in the morning. So, I went and alerted everyone, I've got the eBlast ready to go out, and, of course, it's not live and I have no idea when she'll waltz in and get around to it. Apparently, she didn't come home last night and apparently she hasn't come home this morning. It's the click of a friggin' button for her and she's double charging me for this release because she was "so busy." I cannot wait until this girl is totally out of the picture - she has held me hostage for the last time. But I have to bite my tongue because the new webguy is not savvy at this and until we get all the info we need out of the webgal, I just have to take whatever comes my way. After we go live with the new site, the gloves come off, oh, yes, the gloves come off.
-
Morning, (to quote Laura) that is all.
-
Sometimes it really is all.
-
We're live.
-
Laura, I'm sending you something right now.
-
Everyone who hasn't ordered God's Little Acre (which is ninety-percent of you) can go listen to the lovely audio samples now.
-
Just heard that David Carradine died.
I knew David...and his Dad.
-
There used to be a place in Dallas, on Lover's Lane Drive, called The Rib. It was an all-you-could-eat-for-a-set-price B-B-Q place that my father, who travelled a lot, had discovered and took me to once when he was in town. For an all-you-could-eat joint, it was rather elegantly appointed. Leather booths and red-liveried waiters (actually, BK, it sort of reminds me now of Musso & Frank's...although the waiters were much more deferential). They would start out bringing you hot links on a tray that was put over a hot flame. Then would come ribs, brisket, chicken. Larry Drake and I, during our starving actors days, used to go as often as we could afford it. The waiter would always obsequiously ask, "Would you like some more, gentlemen?" We always did. As we staggered out, we'd have to flip a coin to see who had the most energy to drive home. Once in the car, belts were unbuckled and the top pants buttons popped so bulging stomachs could be freed. To this day, outside of possibly Dr. Holgy-Wogly's Tyler Texas B-B-Q in LA, The Rib had the best B-B-Q I ever tasted. Real Texas and brisket you could cut with a fork.
-
Pogue, when next you visit, we're going to The Kansas City Barbecue.
-
How old was David Carradine?

I knew David...and his Dad.
I just read this at USA.com. What a shock!
-
Yes, I got the kritzerland e-mail earlier this morning about GOD'S LITTLE ACRE.
-
Good morning!
Overcast a bit this morning since we have a 60% chance of rain. It's a TINY bit cooler, but that's all.
-
I slept very well last night leaving the AC on, and it clicked ona couple of times during the night keeping the house much less humid than it otherwise would have been.
And I turned the AC off this morning and have the house opened up again. I may not need the AC today at all which would make me very happy. We'll see.
-
Good, always glad to know the eBlast is getting to people.
-
Carradine was seventy-two, and according to what I read, it's a suicide.
-
I'm very interested in getting GREASE on Blu-ray, but I won't buy it now from Amazon since they have it for $2 more than they're selling the Blu-ray of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER which makes no sense to me at all. I can wait. I have more than enough unwatched Blu-rays, HD-DVDs, and DVDs to tide me over nicely for the next five years.
-
Today's work project is the new Criterion pressing of Ingmar Bergman's THE SEVENTH SEAL. I have both the 2-disc DVD and the Blu-ray of this to review, but I'll start with the DVD since I know watching the Blu-ray will up the ante on visual quality, and I might not be able to be objective about the DVD.
The two-disc set includes BERGMAN ISLAND, an 83-minute documentary on the famous filmmaker which is also getting a separate DVD release from Criterion which I am also going to review. So today I'll be working most of the day on what will actually be THREE DVD/Blu-ray reviews.
I haven't seen THE SEVENTH SEAL in years, so I'm greatly looking forward to revisiting it.

GREASE was of course the first Blu Ray Disk I bought earlier this week, and the parts of it I watched were lovely. Just don't like the movie or the musical, but I like the PEOPLE and the dancing and some of the songs....and of course Eve and Dody. "These are the forms from last year, Blanche." "If you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter!"

I love the hat you are wearing, Jack! You know, I have a couple of vintage men's hats I don't know what to do with...maybe I should donate them to the Putnam County Playhouse.
-
That would be nice, DR MBARNUM - with ARSENIC AND OLD LACE coming up, we will need lots of men's hats.

That hat that I am wearing, however came first from Target for $9.99 - then from Goodwill with the tags still on it for 99 cents.

DR Jose - thank you for last night's Vera Bradley picture from Barnes & Noble! I send magazines to one of my online VB friends who uses them in the classroom for her students to make collages. Instead of reimbursing me for postage, she sends me a Vera gift from time to time. My latest treat is a set of "Cupcakes Pink" pencils and a set of mini-journals that she ordered from B&N.

Now I must head downstairs to get cleaned up for lunch out with friends.

TOD - DR Elmore may remember when a mutual friend had a gift certificate to Edwards Manufacturing Company in Cincinnati. The friend and his wife, DR Elmore, and Richard and I went there for dinner, where we ate and ate and were moaning and groaning about how full we were when the waiter brought the dessert tray. Without hesitation, we each picked a different dessert.

Les Baxter's scores to:

TOD
When I was in High School a classmate, who was first a generation Italian, invited me to his house for dinner. We sat at a lovely carved oak table that was loaded with bowls of fresh green salads, baskets of baked bread and bowls of steaming pasta. As I was finishing a big bowl of pasta, the Grandmother insisted I have some more (I was getting full, but obliged).
Then they served dinner!
Chicken Cacciatore, Roast Pork, and sautéed veal were accompanied by bowls of veggies. This was, of course, followed by a selection of three of four desserts (all of which I was expected to sample and comment upon.)
I felt like a goose in training to produce foie gras.

I'm thinking God's Little Acre will be our fastest sellout ever - if orders keep coming in at the rate they've been coming in, I'd say by three our time we'll be done. Certainly by six our time, although then the sold out snipe has to be generated by the new designer, as the webgal will be out galavanting - but if we have to wait until six, she'll send everything to the webguy and he can do it.
-
I wish we really sold more on the site. The majority of my sales go to dealers, and unfortunately the biggest of those orders takes three of four weeks from the time THEY receive the CDS for me to get any dough, and frequently that dough is split into two payments - so I'm always playing either catch up or ketchup.
I guess I should try to do the long jog after the two huge meals I ate yesterday. Not really motivated but I'm doing it, then doing some errands and whatnot.

Busness news:
...crude oil edged closer to $70 per barrel, sending the energy sector more than 2% higher. Individual names like Hess (HESS: undefined, undefined, undefined%) and Cabot Oil & Gas (COG: 35.86, 1.84, 5.41%) jumped even further. Crude oil was on track to reclaim virtually all of Wednesday’s tumble thanks to a weaker dollar, inflation worries and a prediction from Goldman Sachs for $95 oil by 2010. Crude closed up $2.69 per barrel, or 4.07%, to $68.81 -- a fresh 2009 high.
Note to BK:
Well head prices up - gasoline increase will follow.
Prediction of $95 will fuel speculation - gasoline increase will follow

THE LISTENER has gotten miserable reviews in every place I've checked, so in this case, I think I'm going to let those guide me and leave it alone. I have other things I can watch.
-
We did get a slight shower just a little while ago, but I think there may be more rain for us later today.
-
When I got in from lunch, I immediately put in THE SEVENTH SEAL. Well, it's a masterpiece, of course, and much more accessible than most people might think it would be. Bergman has this reputation among those who have heard of him but don't actually know the films to be this heavy-handed, symbolic director of slow, heavy drama.
Actually, the film is diverting from beginning to end, and this one is barely an hour and a half and is over before you realize it. I really loved seeing it again after all these years. I guess I can put my Criterion laserdisc out to pasture now.
-
I sampled some of Peter Cowie's commentary. It's the same one from the laserdisc, but I did listen to a good bit of it to familiarize myself with it again.
-
I had time to watch some of the bonus features on disc one. There's the 2003 introduction by Bergman himself who counts this among his ten best films (no kidding!). Peter Cowie has filmed some additional thoughts about the movie some 20 years after he recorded the commentary track on the laserdisc. And I watched the 7+ minute piece by Woody Allen made for Turner Class Movies on his favorite Bergmans and what he has meant to him as a filmmaker and a viewer.
-
Also on disc one is the trailer and a Max Von Sydow audio interview which I haven't gotten to yet. Then, there's BERGMAN ISLAND tonight and other bonuses on disc two. All that will be done when I go back downstairs.
-
The Blu-ray for THE SEVENTH SEAL is probably going to be out of this world because the DVD is among the best DVD transfers I've ever seen on any disc. Easily the equal of CASABLANCA on DVD in terms of sharpness, depth of field, fine detail, and lack of artifacts, this is a GREAT transfer.

MADRID — Only a month old and already in a bad mood, a baby white rhino conceived through artificial insemination is delighting keepers at a Spanish zoo.
…
The animal weighed about 140 pounds (65 kilograms) at birth and now tips the scales at 220 pounds (100 kilograms). Its mother, named Marina, gave birth after a 509-day pregnancy.

I don't know if this was the biggest meal I ever had, but this was the most ridiculous amount of food ever served to just two people. Mark and I went to Carmine's in Manhattan and noticed the menu was eerily similar to Bucca di Beppo's menu, with one main difference - no small sizes. Both are family style restaurants and apparently, Bucca di Beppo used to only serve one size, but probably got tired of throwing so much food away, they started offering small sizes some time back. And now they even offer single portions, so you can skip the whole family-style thing all together. Carmine's would do well to also offer small sizes. (Perhaps now they do.) Anyway, Mark and I stupidly ordered both spaghetti and meatballs and a side order of garlic bread. The plates we got had enough food on them to feed about 15 people. And sadly, we were just visiting New York and staying in a hotel with no refridgerator and no microwave, so most of it went into the trash. We wanted to give it to homeless people, but didn't really know how to approach people sleeping underneath piles of blankets on the sidewalk. Anyway, the food was wonderful, especially the garlic bread. Previously, my favorite garlic bread came from a restaurant in Santa Monica called Papa Louie's, but they closed and I thought I'd never have that garlic bread again - it was a very unique recipe and I can't even tell you what was on it, but it was heaven. Well, the garlic bread from Carmine's was identical to Papa Louie's, so I was happy to know someone else has that recipe.

And the gloves come off...Dramatists Guild Voices Objection to Upcoming Tony Awards (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/129902-Dramatists_Guild_Voices_Objection_to_Upcoming_Tony_Awards)
Stephen Schwartz, president of the Dramatists Guild of America, issued a statement June 4 objecting to the presentation of the Best Book of a Musical Tony Award prior to the CBS telecast of the 2009 Tony Awards....
In his June 2 statement, composer Schwartz said, "The Guild objects in the strongest possible terms to the exclusion of this award from the live broadcast. We have received assurances in the past that the Tony producers recognize that this is an important award and that they would reinstate it in the show that everybody sees.
"As writers we understand that the television show needs to be entertaining in order to attract and hold its audience. And the Guild recognizes that many of its members' brother and sister artists, from designers to choreographers to orchestrators, will be similarly disadvantaged on Sunday night.
"Nevertheless, the theatre is always spoken of as 'The Writer's Medium,' as was even said in last year's broadcast. So it seems especially ironic that the awards show that purports to represent the theatre gives less recognition to writers than the motion picture industry's Academy Awards.
"We strongly urge that the Best Book Award be put back where it belongs. Live, on the air."
-
The sky is dark and cloudy here, too. Maybe we will get the dust storm Kerry predicted last night.
-
My opinion, for what it's worth (which is absolutely nothing):
If they would cut out the stupid stuff from the Tony awards show -- all the pointless jokes and chatter and the like -- and the winners have the selflessness to understand that they simply MUST limit their acceptance speeches so that ALL of the winners have a chance to speak, then maybe there would be enough time for all of the awards to be given live and time for clips from both dramas and musicals.
-
Yes, I know I have a very simple mind.

I loved her on "The Cosby Show".

Of course, they've never attracted or held an audience, so they should stop caring, know it's a loss-leader, and do the show the way the Cohen's used to. It's really that simple.
-
I'm having a good time in Vegas. The room is huge! It's over 700 square feet and it's one of the least expensive rooms in the hotel. I'm not complaining. It's a suite and very comfortable. They told me I could pay extra to have a view of the strip. I said no thanks. I got a great view of the mountains. LOL, that's worth more to me than looking at the strip

Back from a meal. God's Little Acre sold out ninety minutes ago - our fastest-moving title, gone in nine hours. Still available elsewhere although I suspect not for long.

Yesterday I had lunch at noon at Table 10, one of Emeril's restaurants. I was the only customer until I was almost finished and then one other person came in. How crazy is that? The lunch was great.

In the afternoon I hung out around Mario Batali's Bet on the Farm press conference area. It's all about sustainable foods etc. There was a farmers market right in the Palazzo. I didn't go to the dinner so I only saw him at the press conference, but it was fun. Tonight I'm joining a group at Enoteca San Marco http://www.enotecasanmarco.com/restaurant.cfm It's in the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian. The ceiling is painted to look like you are outside. I'll attach a photo

*I'm answering this query before reading all the "interim" posts. So, my apologies if I'm duplicating any information.
I believe that was Francie Swift (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0842587/) (sometimes she's credited as "Francine Swift"). She's done a bunch of guest-starring all over the place. She was "Holly Frobisher" on "Damages", and she appears to have have a recurring part on "Gossip Girl" too.

It is really cool. I'm enjoying it here more than I thought I would. I'm not a gambler. I tried to use the slots credit I got for staying here, but I don't really get the slots, so I cashed out at $10 and kept it. Now if I had thought about it, I would have cashed it all out and not played at all, but that's ok. I didn't lose anything
-
Oh, last night I went to Dos Caminos with a lawyer from Des Moines. They have the best guacamole made fresh when you order it.
-
Between the Venetian and the Palazzo there are at least 34 restaurants!~ Of course I have to walk at least 1/2 mile to get to the meeting rooms, so my vote is that it's ok to try as many of them as I can because the walking balances it out

Good Evening!
...And now I'm just waiting to see how our property manager/landlord responds to the email and phone calls we placed to her earlier today...

I could have sworn that THE SEVENTH SEAL was longer than GONE WITH THE WIND, but maybe I am confusing it with WILD STRAWBERRIES.

As I mentioned earlier, we had a light little shower earlier today, but it didn't amount to much. We have just now had a rain that lasted the ENTIRE EVENING. Never heavy but constant for HOURS. Seems to have slacked off a bit now (I need to take out my garbage bin and recycle bin), but we got rain!

Wrong on both counts. Both are about 90 minutes give or take a few.

Page Nine Dance!!!
-
I began my evening viewing by watching BERGMAN'S ISLAND, an 83 minute documentary on Bergman shown on Swedish TV in 2006. Wonderful seeing the man going back over his life through various movie scenes from many of his classics. And he's very candid about being a rotten husband and father and really preferring solitude.
-
In addition to his commentary and an afterward, critic Peter Cowie also produced BERGMAN 101, a primer on Bergman's life and work with lots of stills and clips giving a superb overview of the man's output in movies and TV. Of course, he was also a prolific theater director, but, alas, not much can be shown of that.
-
Next, I watched an NCIS episode from the season five set. In this one, the gang is doing a boring stakeout of some high tech equipment and have the rug pulled out from under them. Ingenious episode.
-
Watching an entertaining motion picture on Blu-Ray. Are you?
-
Next I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing with the kids and nothing in the previews.
-
We're also trying to get the paypal shopping cart set up on the new site, and it's become very complicated because our designer likes his own Buy Now button and not the one you get from paypal which already has the proper codes built in. I will insist if this keeps up much longer, oh, yes, I will insist.
-
Watching an entertaining motion picture on Blu-Ray. Are you?
Alas, no, but definitely tomorrow.
-
Since I had nothing left on the DVR to watch, I went to the HD On-Demand section of my cable line-up and saw that they had CBS' entire CSI lineup. I have not watched a single CSI or CSI: MIAMI episode this season, but I had the time for one episode, so I picked the season finale of CSI: MIAMI. It was HORRIBLE. No wonder I gave up on that show.
-
By the time I finished with that, BURN NOTICE was about 20 minutes into the show (which I was recording), so I watched it to end my evening. Very entertaining return of the show though I did guess early on that
spoiler
the friend was no friend. The season looks to be very entertaining.

Well, it cooled things off, too, which was greatly appreciated. Once again, I have the AC off and the house opened up with the attic fan going. Very nice!

Now, I need to head downstairs so I can set out my garbage and recycle stuff. Then, I'll head to bed. Nice and early. Yay!

Looks like we're losing Sharon McNight. She has a boot cast on her foot, walking is difficult for her, and for some reason she thought this was going to be like the reading we did at my house - sitting down. On top of that, she'd have to miss the Saturday rehearsal for a gig, and it's just too much drama for me, frankly. We've put the word out for someone who's a little frumpy but can belt the crap out of a song - think Mary Testa for type, but endearing and not ballsy. I am really almost over ever doing a show in LA again - too many actors here find too many excuses not to do something because, I guess, they'd rather sit on their ASSES than have a good time and maybe get seen by some fun people. Like Bruce Vilanch, who's coming to the show. And lots of the people in the original film. And my old pal Penny Peyser.

I think I may have just eaten one of the biggest meals of my life! I have photos, but will post them tomorrow. There were 7 of us at Enoteca San Marco and we had Sheena the Server order for us and we ate family style. OMG!!! It was wonderful food, but I think I may have just gained all 50 pounds back in one night, lol
