Pointy hats will be delayed until Sunday; my daughter's tribe is having lots of guests at the campground on Saturday, so we will have a quieter celebration on Sunday. Woody is preparing a roast leg of lamb with oven roasted veggies (potatoes, onions, and carrots) to deliver hot from the oven and DD will prepare some green beans and dinner rolls. I have a bottle of Mateus a-chillin’
Heaven knows when dinner will be served – the store doesn't post the work schedule for the week starting on Sunday until Saturday (sure makes planning easy).
Woody's work has provided a new Vision Care plan which has providers in the neighborhood (the old plan had you traveling 40 minutes to the nearest office). The plan covers exam/lens/frames at no charge (with $50 extra for Progressive lens). So, I suspect a visit to the eye doc is in the offing (it's been nearly six years).
Medicare does not cover “preventative medicine”, so they now have to pick up the tab to treat my advanced Glaucoma that could have been treated earlier, and most likely cheaper, with a proper screening. And, since the Medicare-covered Glaucoma work-up includes dilation, there is only a $25 charge for refraction.

You say that so casually, Cillaliz. I hope you'll be ok till then.
I think I will. I've never had this happen before, but I have the symptoms, the pain in the right place - I haven't thrown up, but have felt like it for a couple days and other symptons I've found on the web. I woke up at 6:30 with the pain in my side right under my ribs. It hurts pretty bad but it's starting to subside a little. I still feel pretty crappy. The Urgent care at my doctor's office opens at noon. I'm going to go to the urgent care at the affiliated office at 10:00. So, yes, I think I'll be fine that long, but since it still hurts, I'm not going to wait until noon.

Good morning!

Happy Natal Day Der Brucer!
-
So what time is it there now? About 8:20 a.m.?
-
Good morning, all! I slept well until 2:30 am when I decided it was time for meds. After that the night was filled with friends and events from the early to late 70s, although at one point we were looking something up on a Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization website, and Sean Connery was in the dream for a bit because he had been in the London cast of SOUTH PACIFIC. Most of the dream before I woke up involved the death of a friend, my thesis on BABES IN TOYLAND, and Peter Oberlink, one of my dearest friends from the Miami University Theatre Dept whom I've not seen since around 1984. I am curiously depressed now, Elton John's song "Ganiel" won't go out of my head, and I'm on the verge of tears. I have no idea what's going on, so I'll put on some Guy Haines t cheer myself up.
Today, I have to proof the final section of the dance to "You're A Builder Upper" and then I'll head back to THE MOST HAPPY FELLA.
Favorite candies:
cinnamon hearts, spice drops, Jordan almonds, Reece cups
Fave snacks:

My work project today and tomorrow will be the third season of DEXTER on Blu-ray. I watched the program on Showtime when it aired, so I have already started writing the review. The second season on Blu-ray looked very nice (and much better than on Showtime since the broadcast version amps up the contrast and color to make it look hot; the Blu-ray dialed things back to normal.) I'll be curious to see if the third season is approached the same way on Blu-ray.

Favorite snack was Fritos. I don't care much for them any more, but I loved them then and also Cheetos, not the puffy kind but the solid kind.

I already have, DR Laura. Before I got the pain meds from my doctor and I was taking some of Ron Raines' meds from his last surgery, I had really weird ones and tore the bed up. Twice. Ron had to come over and make it for me! I haven't had dreams that emotionally got inside my head before now, though, in the past 3 weeks.

DR Cillaliz - As for the people I know/knew in "Julie & Julia", Erin Dilly, who plays Judith Jones, is a friend of mine. And due to the structure of the review in the New York Times, her name appears alongside Meryl Streep's in the first paragraph, the first line of the review!
I've also shared rehearsal space with Linda Emond and Helen Carey who portray Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle. And there are some other Broadway Babies in the movie: Brooks Ashmankas (Julie's Boss), Stephen Bogardus, Kelly AuCoin, and Luis Villabon.

So...
My parents called me late last night. From New Jersey. Jersey City, in fact. Turns out their up for the day for a wedding. The ceremony started at 11:00am(EDT), and the reception is supposed to start right after the wedding. Needless to say, I guess I'm I'm "stalling". -I actually wouldn't mind seeing my parents, I'm just not looking forward to the inevitable barrage of "Why aren't you married yet?" inquiries.

Speaking of Monkey.......Before I went to Philly, Keith and I went to Bryan's wedding in Chicago. We spent a few extra days before the wedding visiting, sightseeing & shopping. While in the Build-A-Bear store Keith wanted to get Monkey an outfit. I wasn't sure Monkey could fit into the larger outfits & I didn't find a top I liked. What size does Monkey wear?

Oy. We had the first of two "transition" evenings last night as I attempt to get my Keyboard 2 gal ready to take over for me when I'm gone for two performances next week due to Gabe's Bar Mitzvah. She's a wonderful lady and a good keyboard person, but she is not a conductor, and it was pretty rough last night. I was telling my bass player, who is incredible and helped pick up some of the slack last night, that this has been a good excercise in making things completely conscious for me, as I have conducted so many shows that a lot of what I do is simply intuitive and I don't even think about it--but I need to think about it quite clearly so that I can give explicit direction. Oy.
-
The sub pianist (filling in for my Keyboard 2 gal) just up and stopped twice last night in the middle of pieces. Unfortunately one of them was the "Audition Opening" where she's the only one playing. Have I said oy?

DR JANE - DK will be dancing Magical Mystery Tour and Ol' King Cole - two really nice pieces.

DR JMK just how LONG does that damned show run?
Four more weeks. Have I said oy? ;D
-
I literally had to place my sub's arms in the correct positions last night so that her right hand could be seen by the cast and her left by the band on the songs that really need some firm "help." It was like playing with a life-size Barbie, something I'm sure several DR's have experienced. ;)
-
Or perhaps a life-sized Ken in some instances. ;)

I think this show has run longer than Lestat, LOL.

DR JANE - DK will be dancing Magical Mystery Tour and Ol' King Cole - two really nice pieces.
I looked at their site, lovely dancing. I hope the weather warms up by the evening as they are preforming outside. As it is only in the evening I doubt I will be there, I'm still falling asleep on a very late West Coast time & waking up on an early East Coast time. I'm rather exhausted after 10 days of this.
-
Oh, Jane, are you back? :)

I suppose I shall jog, and then I suppose I shall bring the covers for our next release to the designer.

Thanks for posting Rodzinski's LEADING MEN column. I love reading that and I am quite envious of some the actors Tom has interviewed over that last year.
I had a nice chat with DR Rodzinski just the other day. I would say he has just been on a leave of absence from HHW. Having a new girlfriend can do that, I hear.
But things have changed and girlfriend is no more, and perhaps he might come back....although he is deathly a feared of being bitch slapped.
-
And speaking of interviews....I am interviewing a popular teenage star of the 50s...well, actually he was one of those 30 year old teenagers.

No, I didn't go home. I went in and they took blood and x-rays and told me I most likely had a gall bladder attack and for the moment there is no infection or stones blocking anything. So, I came home. Now that the pain is gone I do feel better. I am supposed to get an ultrasound scheduled to see if there are stones and to determine whether I"ll need to have it removed.
He said I could go months without another attack or it could happen again this weekend.
So I am home and will stay inside where it's cool today

BK, I am very sorry to hear that THE LAST OF THE TWO-FERS will not be the title of your next novel.
-
I'm glad you saw a doctor. I hope they had some advice for you on how to avoid it in the future.

Good Afternoon!
So... I called my mother a little while ago to inform her that it would require a two and a half hour bus ride to get out to West Orange this afternoon - keep in mind that is already almost 1:00pm and the reception is due to end at 4:00...
My Mom: "Oh, that's OK. You can still make it out here for the reception, right? We'll see you later."
-I really don't think I'll have enough time to make it out there.
Mom: "Oh... Call me back later, the ceremony is still going on."
SHE HAD HER CELL PHONE ON DURING THE WEDDING CEREMONY!?!?!?!?!?
OY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
bk - Yes, egg creams are still available here in NYC. Many places make them. In fact, your beloved Brooklyn Diner makes them - which is why I thought you were asking a rhetorical question - as does Junior's and almost every other deli-type place here in the City. Besides the traditional Chocolate, you can also get Vanilla, Strawberry and Lemon ones now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE ONE AND ONLY DERBRUCER!
-
DR
Jose-
Do you know which restaurant Nora Ephron filmed the Girls Lunch in Julie and Julia?
Sorry I didn't answer your question when you asked it yesterday, DR ArnoldMBrockman. Mainly because I'm not sure which restaurant that was/is. It looked familiar, but... ??? I shall ask around. Or at least Google. ;)
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR der Brucer!! ;D
-
I'm glad you saw a doctor. I hope they had some advice for you on how to avoid it in the future.
Eat bland food and if it happens again we can take it out.
Oh, and if it happens again this weekend...go to ER
-
Of course NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN featured the reunion of Sergio Mendes and Lani Hall for the title song, which nevertheless was a complete flopola, chart-wise. Nice Legrand/Bergman piece, though.

~~~Feel Better Vibes for DR Cillaliz!!~~~
Yikes...
A helicopter and a plane collided over the Hudson River a few minutes ago... :-\
DR Jose, sounds like you had a lot of friends in Julie & Julia. It was a great movie not knowing anyone in it, it must have been a really great time
Yikes...
I just saw that..
FROM YESTERDAY
FJL
Love the parody. It made me laugh. 5* (awesome)
Me, too! And I gave it 5 stars, also. :D
-
Welcome back, DR Jane.
-
~~~Feel Better Vibes for DR Cillaliz!!~~~
Thanks George. Actually I feel much better now. I've felt like crap for about 3 days and I think that it must have been related to my gallbladder.
-
Hi Jane!! Glad you had a very good time.
-
George - Thanks so much!
-
Vibes of whatever kinds needed to DR Cilla
-
Jose - Thank you, thank you, thank you for the photo-filled emails. We really appreciate your following up.

Jose - Thank you, thank you, thank you for the photo-filled emails. We really appreciate your following up.
You're very welcome. I was just scanning through some old emails and noticed that the attachments looked sort of "small", so... Hopefully, the "corrected" ones are the "right" ones.

Vibes of whatever kinds needed to DR Cilla
Thanks FJL.

DR JMK - ~~~~~SANITY VIBES TO YOU~~~~~
*And do you have any idea why, when I played for the tour, we had three different keys for "The Little Wooden Boy"?
-
So, instead of hopping on a bus and heading to the wedding reception, I shall be hopping on a subway train shortly and heading into Times Square to meet up with some friends. And then it looks like I will be heading up to White Plains tonight for a little gathering.
Laters...

DR JMK - ~~~~~SANITY VIBES TO YOU~~~~~
*And do you have any idea why, when I played for the tour, we had three different keys for "The Little Wooden Boy"?
That makes absolutely no sense. Did someone actually sing it in your production?
-
TCB - Glad you expressed your confusion about the beaches and bodies of water in Butte. Just because Butte technically has beaches doesn't mean the vast oceans won't confuse people. Thanks - I've added this to the YouTube screen on the right:
"Note re questions about the ocean shots: Thought it would be fun to use an idealized Butte, Montana like in an old musical, so i hope it's not confusing - we did cut palm trees out of two of the chuppah photos, though. :) "
I am sorry, FJL, I really loved the video. I just remember Butte, and it never looked that good. I didn't mean it as a criticism.

It's almost 10 now and I'm in the parking lot of the Urgent care. The worst of the pain is gone and I decided to wait based on the things I read on the web. Essentially all you can do is wait for it to stop hurting.

Happy Birthday Der Brucer!

Feel better vibes to DR Cillaliz.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I think the lead tenor for the Alburquerque Light Opera Company sings that song a lot.
-
Topic of the Day:
Baby Ruths
Butterfingers
Ding Dongs
Moonpies
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups
Snow Balls
I never had a "soda fountain drink," other than regular sodas or milk shakes...nothing special like an egg cream.
-
BK said it best, so I shall quote him: A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DER BRUCER, WHO HAS BEEN WITH US SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE OLD ONE FROM COLUMN A DAYS!!!
-
DR JANE I think DK will be back at the Festival again next year, but they are probably my favorite Indy dance group.
-
T.O.D.
I used to love DQ Dilly Bars in cherry or lime. i never really cared for the cone part of ice cream cones, when I was kid, so this satisfied my ice cream craving without the cone.
Flicks Candy - When I was a kid, if I had a dime at the movies instead of a nickel, I always went for the Flicks.
Snack foods - Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
-
I hope it was a one-time thing, Cillaliz. Although a friend of mine had hers removed and has felt fine ever since.
-
Do they want you to show up for the wedding and reception?
At least for the reception. But, then again, I didn't realize I was (also) invited.
My Mom called again this morning at 10:00 to tell me that the wedding was indeed at 11:00. Well, there was no way I could have made it out there in an hour. So...
Update: I just found the place and proper address of the wedding site. It's in West Orange, NJ. It's not off the PATH of NJ Transit trains. However, it is accessible by a bus from Port Authority, and according to the current bus schedule, it would take 2 hours and 3 minutes to get there. Ah, well...
::) ;)
Is the wedding being held at The Manor?

Hello, again!
;)
*I started watching the coverage the helicopter/plane collision....

Well, I need to take a shower, get dressed, go to work for a few hours and then go to my sister's AGAIN for more stuff to do. Have a good day, all!
-
Is the wedding being held at The Manor?
When I spoke to my mom last night, she thought it was being held at "The Marina". In Jersey City. -And she was supposedly reading that off of the invitation.
???
-
OK... Once again..
Laters...
-
I literally had to place my sub's arms in the correct positions last night so that her right hand could be seen by the cast and her left by the band on the songs that really need some firm "help." It was like playing with a life-size Barbie, something I'm sure several DR's have experienced. ;)
Barbie? No.

T.O.D. Part 2
When I was a kid, I always liked the soda fountain drink, Green River. I doubt anyone around here sells it anymore since Green River is pretty much synonymous with the serial killer.
-
I hope it was a one-time thing, Cillaliz. Although a friend of mine had hers removed and has felt fine ever since.
Thanks Laura, and everyone else for the vibes. There are 3 people in my family who are now without their gallbladders. I have a feeling at some point I'll have it outm but I'm not in any hurry for that to happen

TOD-
Hmm, I liked black cows (Root beer floats)
Raspberry slushes at Dairy Queen
Orange Sherbet
Italian Ice
Ice cream
Bomb Pops
Popsicles
fudgesicles
I loved candy coins, heath bars, butterfingers, m&ms, slow pokes, tootsie pops...

According to webmd.com, many people never have a second gallbladder attack.

My actual diagnosis is biliary colic. But I like that website

Mary Linda and I are back from Kathryn's, the local Vera Bradley
enabler retailer. Part of her graduation present from us was a gift certificate from there, so she got a couple of nice pieces in Purple Punch. Kathryn's also sells very nice furniture on consignment and they're holding a living room chair for me until I can get Richard out there to have a look.
-
DR Cillaliz - I'm glad you've seen a doctor and having the problem monitored. We ran into my former boss yesterday and his wife had just had her gall bladder removed.
-
Hold That Chair!
Wasn't that an Abbott & Costello movie?

How long have Rob and Mary Linda been a couple, Ginny?

How long have Rob and Mary Linda been a couple, Ginny?
Almost 2 and a half years, DR Laura. It was weird introducing her to Rob's elementary principal, who was also shopping at Kathryn's today.

I have just spent a fascinating half hour watching a stand of microphones and the back of a woman's head while waiting for Mayor Bloomberg to speak about the plane / hellicopter crash.

It is very warm today....and temps in the 90's predicted for our matinee day.
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR DER BRUCER.
I always enjoy your posts.
Hope your having a really good day.
-
Will read posts when I get back this afternoon.
Just wanted to say Hi.
Hi.
-
It is interesting to watch Mayor Bloomberg's real-life Michael J. Fox have his
15 30 mintues of national fame.
-
Sad event.....
-
Uh oh - the Red Cross is there - somebody is going to get a big bill.
-
Well, will someone please tell Rodzinski to get his ASS back here where it belongs? There will be no bitch-slapping whatsoever.
-
Ironically, I heard from PennyO just an hour ago via e-mail - she'll be back.
-
Hi and bye, Sam.
-
I did a very brisk long jog, delivered the cover material for our next release - and we have a very tough decision to make as to which cover to use for the cover and which to use on the back of the booklet. We should use the lead-off title for the CD - that would make sense - but that cover is really ordinary, whereas the second title (at least it comes second in the playing order) is fantastic. But the other title has to lead because that composer is the selling point. So, what to do, cover-wise? Go with the lead-off title and boring cover, or the second title with the great cover.
-
Sam comes and goes, like Grand Hotel.
-
I must say, what a lovely posting day for a Saturday.

Can you split the two covers on the front?

Just did a wonderful two hour interview with 1950s actor Steve Terrell (star of INVASION OF THE SAUCER MEN, MOTORCYCLE GANG, DRAGSTRIP GIRL and RUNAWAY DAUGHTERS). What a great guy!

I am sure Mr Terrell had plenty to say! And I don't think I have ever read an interview with him.

The Apartment/Irma La Douce/The Fortune Cookie arrived at my house today.

I shall now prepare to go to the theatre for our first Saturday night performance.

I remember candy cigarettes. I always liked those.

Boy, it started out as a gangbuster Saturday, but it has kind of petered-out.

TCB - you're right - I thought we'd be to page ten already.

Does someone know the startling secret of why Lost, Season Four is only fourteen episodes? How do you go from twenty-three to fourteen? I know season five was only seventeen. Seems a little weird to me.

Third most used line on Lost - after "What?" and "Excuse me?" is "Now why would I want to do that?"
-

They went to what basically amount to half seasons for the last three years.
-
I saw A PERFECT GETAWAY today.
It's a good thriller, but I wish all the reviewers hadn't talked about its "twist ending".
If they hadn't, I might not have figured out the twist five minutes into the movie.
-
I've been working on yardwork today, since it's not as hot as usual. It is getting warm, though.
-
I watched the last MURDER SHE WROTE episode in the Season 10 box as I cooked and ate lunch. A wave of thefts had hit Cabot Cove when a carnival came to town, and the master magician played by Bradford Dillman was suspected. But then he's murdered.
The actor who plays Philip Chancellor III, Thom Bierdz, guest starred in this episode.

My favorite B-movie.
-
The original renewal for LOST after season three was for three more years of 18 episodes each. The Writers' Strike cut season four's number and as I understand from the bonus features, some subplots had to be dropped to squeeze in enough plot for the 14 episodes they had to work with that season.
-
I started watching VERTIGO while I was finishing up lunch. I got up to the point when Kim Novak is about to jump in the bay. I'll continue with it tomorrow
-
We spent the day chair shopping. Our love seat/couch is wearing out and we have decided it might be easier, in our small apartment, to have two small club or wing chairs and a table between them instead of a love seat. We have seen some possibilities but nothing jumped out at us. There was something at Macy's we would have bought if it had different fabric but to get different fabric without the nail buttons would have been another two months of waiting and another at least $200 to the price so we passed on that. We went to West Elm and the Door Store and we've looked on line. There are things at Penney's Home Store but that will have to wait until another trip to Long Island (probably around Labor Day) since there is a new J.C. Penney in Manhattan but they have no furniture. That is only available at the Home Store. We don't want to buy chairs without looking at them and sitting in them. Oh, well. We got out in the beautiful Manhattan day so it wasn't a total loss.
I don't know what we will have for dinner. We had a wonderful Anniversary dinner last night at East of Eighth. Anthony had a wrap and I had grilled chicken breasts and we split a piece of chocolate cake for dessert. Anthony's camera has decided it needs to stop working so there are no pictures available.
-
I did get 1 1/2 episodes of DEXTER watched. I'll continue with it when I go back down.

Is that

I tried to nap for a bit but some idiot kept ringing my door bell. Of corse, whoever it was really didn't want my apartment, just trying to get into the building. Now I'm watching the news about the crash. Realy sad.

How ironic that it happened so near where the Miracle on the Hudson took place; and sadly, with a different outcome.

Ah, the strike - that explains it.

I'm enjoying season four so far (on show six), but I must say the flash forwards in terms of their timeline are becoming very irritating. I do hope that at some point soon all this becomes clear.
-
Oh, Jane, are you back? :)
Yes. I returned last night. Keith & Sherlock picked me up at the airport. I really should have taken another day before sitting at the computer but I missed you guys.

I enjoyed the relatively cool day (currently only 99 degrees), but I am in for the rest of the day.

I'm glad it has subsided. I hear so many stories from people who have chronic problems after having their gall bladder removed. One of my PA friends was just telling me about hers. She has major problems tolerating foods now & could only eat very boring food while we were out.
Thinking about it, only one of the 4 of us could eat whatever she wanted. Aging is so much fun.

Oh no, she didn't! :o ;D

Took a nice long nap, and now I am watching a Bollywood movie. BIN BADAL BARSAAT (1963) which is a lovely romantic film starring lovely Asha Parekh and handsome Biswajit which is likely to turn tragedy at any moment, I am sure.

Color me irate. The control freak choreographer (CFC in internet lingo)--who also dances in the show==had the temerity to call the director (who lives in LA) to complain about the approximately 2.5 seconds last night where the sub pianist missed a cue and didn't play for a moment. According to CFC, there were "huge gaps" of silence in the show. The producer, who lives here, is also irate and is coming down to give CFC a piece of her mind tonight. I specifically asked everyone pre-show last night to please show my sub (and her sub) some civility and understanding as they were both jumping into unknown waters. And everyone--save CFC--did. That bitch has me to deal with tonight and it ain't gonna be pretty, that much I can guarantee. ;)

"Michael Jackson's brain has been reunited with his body.
The singer's brain was removed from his skull last month and taken away for toxicology tests."
Now if only the same could be said of me!
Oh, and Germaine Jackson is not mad at God for taking Michael away! Apparently he was being interviewed last evening, and that's what the crawl said at the bottom.
Hopefully Tito and LaToya aren't mad either.
-
I hope that turned out alright-- I'm posting from my itouch and it doesn't look right on here.

Yes, we will expect a full report.

Finished another episode - which we'll simply call Back To The Lost Future.

I loved seeing JULIE & JULIA yesterday. Streep and company look like they had a ball making this movie and their obvious merriment infected me throughout the Julia Child portions of the film. The modern day parts are fine but they do sort of pale in comparison.
I never had the opportunity to meet them as a couple, but I couldn't help but think of an ex-couple here on HHW while watching the scenes with Amy Adams and her screen hubby.

*Thankfully, that is not the picture that will be in New York Magazine. ::)
I don't know, Jose-- if they did use that pic, your dancecard could be filled for a long time!!!

***HEALTH VIBES***
for DR Cillaliz!!!!!
-
Welcome back, DR Jane!!!!! :D
-
Home from the beach. Zach is bummed. No more constant stimulation and sandpipers to chase.
-
That bitch has me to deal with tonight
Anything but that...
;)
-
No more constant stimulation and sandpipers to chase.
Are we talking about Zach or you?
-
To paraphrase Candide, I am so easily a-stimulated. :)
-
Or perhaps a life-sized Ken in some instances. ;)
NOW I can picture it!!
-
Welcome home Jane!
-
DR Cillaliz - I'm glad you've seen a doctor and having the problem monitored. We ran into my former boss yesterday and his wife had just had her gall bladder removed.
Thanks Ginny. I started the laundry this afternoon, took a load of clean clothes upstarirs laid down for a minute and woke up 3 1/2 hours later. Guess I needed to sleep
-
DR Cillaliz, I send you vibes for no more gall bladder problems!!
Thanks MBarnum
-
So, are the flash-forwards suddenly over now by show seven, when we get a flashBACK again? So hard to keep track.
-
Done with my Bollywood movie...now onto a Lollywood movie (Pakistani..film capital is Lahore). Movie is SALAKHAIN, a "super hit" action film from 2005.
It looks to be a silly action film, but my gosh, that hunky lead actor, seems he has difficulty keeping his shirt on in this film as seen in this music video....

....................well, I think I could watch him in anything...or nothing at all! LOL!

Thank you DRs Jose, Cilla. MBarnum & DAW
While large compared with Craig’s wedding (I’m somewhat in shock both are boys are married), it was a small gathering of 40 people. They had a very simple ceremony. They got up and said a few lovely thoughts & then Bryan’s friend, who became a minister just to marry them, signed the official papers. Craig held one ring & Kate’s best friend the other for the exchange of rings. Then we all sat down to a wonderful lunch. It was at the wedding we met the in-laws who turned out to be delightful people. We went to an early dinner with Kate’s parents before the evening activities.
The evening gathering was at a unique bar in Chicago that makes old fashioned alcoholic beverages, none of which are made with soda of any kind. Those who didn’t drink, as Ioana & my brother, had only water. They still had a great time. There were fancy appetizers & this amazing selection of drinks….check out the menu at http://www.theviolethour.com/menu.php One could also go to the bar for “special” drinks. Bryan gave me something called a Brandy Flip. Oh my was it yummy!
Between my nephew, Bryan’s long time friend & his girlfriend, I had far too many samples. Craig said I sampled one of his drinks without asking-lol. While drinking my Flip (a very small sample others kept tasting) and eating my chocolate cake entremet from http://www.vanillepatisserie.com/entremets.htm someone began feeding me forkfuls of a carmel entremet that was to die for. Needles to say I enjoyed the evening. Even better than the drinks & entremets was the company. My brother & his children were there as was my sister’s daughter. It was a treat to see Bryan’s two best friends from Michigan who were always at our house. The one technically married Bryan & the other gave a beautiful speech. The party was still going on when we left & the newlyweds looked very happy.

The curiously named Ahmed Butt is the lead actor of this film.
..will have to see if he doesn't become my new favorite actor...I can already tell he is quite a talent, and that I have been very lax in catching up on Pakistani cinema.

DR Jane - what a lovely wedding description!
And thank you for your kind thoughts about my BiL John. The situation has deteriorated considerably in the last 48 hours.
-
I just finished watchng the outrageous British mystery SHE FELL AMONG THIEVES, starring a very young and dashing Malcolm McDowell as our intrepid hero and Eileen Atkins as the villainous Vanity Fair, which she plays as a high camp cross between Lady Bracknell and Cruella DeVille. At her first appearance I thought that Charles Ludlum was alive and playing Irma Vep again. Karen Dotrice, the young girl in MARY POPPINS, plays the put-upon heiress whose marriage and twenty million pounds are the gain of Vanity Fair, and the whole thing is a complete and wonderful hoot set in the Pyrenees in the early 1920s. I cannot recommend this enough; it's wonderful.
-
So sorry to hear that, Ginny.
-
i'm also sorry to hear that, Ginny.
Vibes and Prayers to John and all of his family ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
The movie Serendipity is on Oxygen - they go to Serendipity and eat frozen hot chocolate! Memories....
-
Oh, Ginny. I am so sorry to hear that.
-
Ginny, I'm so very sorry. Before reading any posts today I read all of yours.
Best wishes there is still hope and he will improve.
-
Sounds like a lovely wedding, Jane. :)
-
DR Jane - what a lovely wedding description!
And thank you for your kind thoughts about my BiL John. The situation has deteriorated considerably in the last 48 hours.
Oh Ginny, I am very sorry to read that. My continued prayers to you all.

G'night!

I'm enjoying season four so far (on show six), but I must say the flash forwards in terms of their timeline are becoming very irritating. I do hope that at some point soon all this becomes clear.
If it doesn't become clear, there is a bonus feature which allows you to pick which character's flashforwards you want to see and they play them chronologically.
-
I spent all evening with DEXTER episodes (though I had some phone calls as well which added up probably kept me from seeing an additional episode). I have finished six episodes, and I'll have six more tomorrow plus the limited bonus features which appear only to be available through BD-Live (which I have but don't particularly like. Takes a long time to upload and the material usually isn't worth the time).
-
Dear Ginny, you are in our thoughts.
-
If I'm not aching too much tomorrow morning, I must attempt to mow the front yard. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
-
Thank you DRs Ginny & Laura.
Bryan took the subway to our hotel & escorted us back for a visit at their new apartment. It looks nice, plus he fed us his delicious hummus. Kate then went to the airport to pick up a friend while we went with Bryan to pick up his wedding ring. I like his semi-dark grey ring. I can't remember what the metal is.
-
I also have Friday night's PSYCH which I haven't watched yet, and I'll look at it while I eat lunch tomorrow.
-
'night
-
DR Ginny, I am so sorry to hear that things have taken a bad turn for your brother in law.
-
I'm going to do a little writing and then I'll head down to bed.
Good night!
-
Welcome home Jane. And welcome back.
-
Pain free vibes to DR Matt~~~~~~~~~~

How are you feeling tonight, Cillaliz?
-
DR Jose, not sure I said it earler, but congrats on your photos possibly making New York Magazine. That's really cool. You're photos are fabulous, glad you're getting recognition for them.
-
How are you feeling tonight, Cillaliz?
Better. I've been researching diet for gallbladder issues and am glad to see that it's essentially a low fat high fiber diet, which is what I've been eating on WW, so I'm used to it. I do plan to go to bed soon. I'm still tired, even with all the sleep this afternoon.
Tomorrow I need to start emptying out the kitchen cupboards to prepare for removing the old countertops on Wednesday after work and the installation of the new ones on Thursday. So I'm hoping I really feel better in the morning
-
I also need to make more tomato sauce to freeze so I can get the tomatoes off the counter. And I bought all the fixings to make low fat strawberry ice cream. So, I'm still going to make it.
-
I'm glad you're feeling better. That was quite a scare.
-
Wow, 11 pages, this might take me a few few minutes to read.
Be back.
-
I'm watching Never Say Never Again - it's as bad as I remember it, and I must say that one of the major culprits is Michel Legrand - it may be, for me, the worst thing he's ever written.

Good Evening!
I'm back from Westchester County - White Plains, NY, to be exact.
My friend, Allen, picked me up, and we drove up to meet up with some other friends (a couple - Fernando and Jenni) who recently moved there. -They'll both be starting grad school at SUNY in a few weeks.
Since my brother, Don, had given me a P.F. Chang's gift card to me when I was home last weekend, and since there are no P.F. Chang's in the NYC-limits, we dined at P.F. Chang's. Of course, there was about a two-hour wait for a table - we had even called ahead for a reservation - so we just wandered around The Westchester mall for a while.
Of course, when I stepped into Williams-Sonoma, I happened to notice that they had just put on some new Summer Clearance items. Thankfully, I resisted the almost-half-off Le Creuset dutch oven, but I did pick up a bottle of their now-discontinued Wasabi/Green Tea Multi-Purpose Cleaner. -It smells better than it reads. I also picked up some glassware at Crate & Barrel.
*And the dinner at P.F. Chang's was pretty decent too. Especially since half the bill was covered by the gift card. :)
-
DR Jose, not sure I said it earler, but congrats on your photos possibly making New York Magazine. That's really cool. You're photos are fabulous, glad you're getting recognition for them.
Aw, Thank You, DR Cillaliz.

I will always remember a fountain drink called the grasshopper. The only soda stand in Coolidge, Arizona. Soft serve vanilla ice cream and green slushy. Delicious.
-

Kate then went to the airport to pick up a friend while we went with Bryan to pick up his wedding ring. I like his semi-dark grey ring. I can't remember what the metal is.
Pewter?
;)
However, I'm guessing it was probably a Tungsten ring. -Which has become the metal of choice for many rings since Tungsten does not scratch nor tarnish.
-
DR Jane - And it does sound you had some wonderful visits while you were away. And some good cocktails too! Mazel!
*And I like The Violet Hour too.
-
When I was a kid I drank a lot of Cherry Pepsis at the Rexall Drug store. growing up there were soda fountains with counters in two drug stores and at Woolworths. Now there are none.

I loved seeing JULIE & JULIA yesterday. Streep and company look like they had a ball making this movie and their obvious merriment infected me throughout the Julia Child portions of the film. The modern day parts are fine but they do sort of pale in comparison.

"JULIE & JULIA" SEMI-SPOILER AHEAD
It's been interesting reading some of the reviews that keep mentioning the disparity between the two stories. A good number of reviewers have been "blaming" the disparity between the level of acting of each of the actor-couples. However, I think any disparity is just due to the fact that the Julia story-line is just much more interesting and involving - especially considering all that was going on in the world during Julia Child's "formative" years.
*And I really do love how they managed to make Meryl Streep seem a couple of inches taller than she actually is.
FINI

Today was good. I listened to Blind Faith, Revolver, and Curious George this morning. Then went to the salon (this month I will be a brunette). Then to Aron Bros., and ordered mats for new prints for the walls (my next apt., decor will be color color color on the walls and lots lots lots of open floor space). And I just watched Johnny Depp in Blow (very sad ending).

Oh no, she didn't! :o ;D
...And then she calls me as they're about to start the drive back down to Virginia..
"Oh, you really should have come! There was so much food, and it was so good. All Italian!"
Italian food at a Filipino wedding? Now that's a first! ;)
-
DR Sam - Good to hear that you had a good day, and it sounds like you were able to have some "me time". :)
-
dear bk, Jerry's deli serves egg creams (or they did before the renovation).
-
Hi Jose , good news about the picture for the magazine. You do take wonderful photos.
-
We spent the day chair shopping.
DR Ben - You may want to make a trek up and over to Pottery Barn. They are in the process of clearing out some of the "seasonal merchandise", and some of the discounts are pretty substantial. Additionally, the E. 59th Street location features furniture sized for New York City apartments. Everything is just a bit smaller than the standard furniture sizes.
Oohhh.. East of Eighth... Knife & Fork Fried Chicken... Hmmm.. :) -Well, that's what I would have ordered if it was my anniversary. Or even if it was just a Tuesday.
-
T.O.D. Part 2
When I was a kid, I always liked the soda fountain drink, Green River. I doubt anyone around here sells it anymore since Green River is pretty much synonymous with the serial killer.
Ohh... Green Rivers were what I always ordered at Farrell's! Some of the Goodburgers here in NYC serve them, as well as Lime Rickey's.
-
I think it's time to put on music and do chores, I still have a couple of boxes of paperwork to go through from my dad's place. And of course laundry and car wash on the list for Sunday.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - I'm thinking that I will end up in Philly on either Tuesday or Wednesday for the day. After not stopping there on the way back from Lancaster the past two Mondays - and also realizing that the last time I spent any real time in Philly was back in 1997(!) - well, I feel a road trip coming on. -And the round trip on the Chinatown bus is only $16. So...
I have a few places I want to check out, and there are some other friends I hope to see while I'm in town, but if you'd like to meet for coffee, lunch, dinner, drink(s), etc., I'd love to add you to my itinerary. ;)
-
Time for bed. Hopefully tomorrow will start better than today did.
-
Hi Jose , good news about the picture for the magazine. You do take wonderful photos.
Thank You, DR Sam.
-
Pleasant Sunday to everyone.
Let's see if I can make it through ordering tickets via the internet tomorrow, for La Jolla Playhouse this month, the Getty for September, and 2 events at Royce Hall for October. Oh to be 20 again and spending the night waiting in line with 100 other people for concert tickets. Those were the days.
Goodnight.
-
Really good vibes to you, Cillaliz.
-
Elvis Costelo's artist's choice cd, good music for ending my evening.
Night all.
