And the word of the day is: TATTERDEMALION!
I cannot imagine what writing ten books would have been like on a conventional typewriter - in fact, I can pretty much say I probably would have given up after book one and am not sure I would have even started book one. The ability to move things around with a click, to easily save different versions, to edit and correct in seconds - for me, the computer and word processing itself has been amazing.

I learned to type on my father's ancient black Royal Typewriter.
I've begun Season 2 of BONES.
Saturday afternoon greetings! I was up early this morning for a 9amboredboard meeting for Middletown AAUW. As soon as it adjourned, I picked up 2 book group friends and we went to Books & Co. at The Greene to hear Mary Doria Russell. She was her usual entertaining self and shed a lot of light on Dreamers of the Day and her other books.
I got an e-mail from Disney alerting me that the Blu-rays of ARMAGEDDON and TOMBSTONE are in the mail. They are scheduled to arrive mid-week, but they don't come out until the 27th so that's plenty of lead time.
I also see that two "monumental masterpieces" of cinema art are scheduled for release in the coming months, and it will fall on me to review them more than likely: ELECKTRA and SHOWGIRLS. Oy!

Wouldn't that be more of a warning than an alert?
Are we going to be seeing photos of Jrand and his partner from last night?
Yesterday was a very sad day for me. I stopped at the credit union, and as I was pulling out, a kid in an older clunker ran into my brand new car. I just barely have 4,000 miles on it.

Beautiful photo, Laura! As always.
I started to red THE RED LEATHER DIARY. Fascinating.Love O'Connor's work. She had a singular vision and a singular writing style that has often been imitated but never equaled. I wonder how much of her tortured style came from listening to her peafowl scream. It can have its affect.
I also am reading the short stories of Flannery O'Connor. . .what a brilliant writer.
I'm sorry you didn't win, JRand. It's hard to compete with ballroom dancing. But it certainly is fun, isn't it?
This morning I went for a walk, and this is what I saw:
And we raised $26,000 for the Putnam County Youth Foundation.

Just finished Mr. BIG's book. A very brief 160 pages (plus about sixty pages of great photos), he has some lovely stories about his childhood and intro into the business, although one might have wished for more info. The style of the book is fine, and Bert is a good storyteller, and I've been told that some errors in the text will be corrected.
Now this is the spot that the guy was trying to pull into without striking the curb (which he didn't strike) and my car is exactly where it was yesterday.

I can see why it was so difficult to park. ::)
Where were you at the time?

Fact checkers (I did type that "fat" checkers first) are also in short supply. One of my favorites of those errors was in the Fosse bio, "Razzle Dazzle," in which a photo of Thelma Oliver in "Sweet Charity" is identified as Thelma Ritter.
Did you want me to mention your impending visit to BRAINEX when I see it tomorrow, MR BK?

I've mentioned it to the director - as a possibility. It's going to have to be this coming weekend - looking forward to your report. I think I'd fly directly to Indianapolis, since that's where the theater is, stay overnight, and then go visit the Pogue's for a couple of days.

It's really pretty shocking, actually. I'm praying we've caught almost everything during the last go-through, where I caught about five name misspellings and got them fixed.

DR Laura, I never tell you enough, but your photos are really something amazing.

I think I would rather sit through SHOWGIRLS than to endure ARMAGEDDON for a second time.
Finishing off the day with "Make Way for Tomorrow," which just arrived at the library. Great to see Victor Moore do a drama, and I can really feel where this would have inspired "Tokyo Story," one of my all-time favorites.
Yes, DR's - it was the most fun I have had in a long time.
Met some very nice ladies and gentlemen - danced in front of an appreciative crowd - and got to wear my John Travolta suit and hair.
I did also get one of the biggest laughs of the night when Beau the emcee asked me a question about my wig.....and I took a nice beat and asked him: "What wig?"
And certainly our 26 was a respectable score - for what we did.
And we raised $26,000 for the Putnam County Youth Foundation.
R.I.P. Dixie CarterSad news, indeed.

BK, are you still planning on coming to the May 7th performance in Olympia and not April 30th?
DR JMK - Very Cool! -She was also in the original cast of The Happy Time. -That's cool too.
Found a nice downtown hotel through Quikbook and since Pogue will have his car we can just drive to wherever the theater is. Boy, hotel rates are sure cheaper when you're not in NY. Shockingly cheap for a really nice room.

Yes, looking like it will be May 7th - definitely not the 30th now. I'll probably book the trip this week at some point.
Well I had a most amazing evening at this month's Rave in the Nave. We presented two groups of young performers, a troupe from Eugene and the acclaimed Dance West, a youth dance group from Beaverton's Arts Magnet Academy. Now here's the cool part: they danced to some tunes Mr. BK produced! There was one that wasn't familiar, but it sure sounded like a BK production, and the lyric had something to do with Love is like sand. Does that sound familiar, BK? Almost, but not quite, sounded like Susan Egan.
Now here's the most amazing part. They were doing this medley of Broadway stuff and broke into I Hope I Get It and their Director and Choreographer leaned over to me and said, "That's the original Michael Bennett choreography--I worked with Michael." I asked her when, and I was amazed when she said, "Why, I'm a 'Turkey Lurkey' girl--I was the one in the middle!" She replaced Donna on Broadway after Donna left to do 'Company.' Her name is Julane Stites. Isn't that cool?
Fox, Universal new releases delayed 28 days on Netflix
April 9, 2010
Netflix customers who want to see "Avatar" or "It's Complicated" on DVD will have to wait for more than just their mailman.
20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures have signed new distribution deals with the DVD-by-mail service that include a 28-day delay on new releases.
The agreements are similar to one signed by Warner Bros. in January.

Court Records Detail Accusations Against Arrested School Coach
LEWES, Del. - The head football coach at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes was arrested Thursday and charged with repeated sexual assault of a teenage girl.
Thomas A. Ott, 39, of Lewes, is charged with second-degree rape, fourth-degree rape, unlawful sexual contact, continuous abuse of a child and unlawful imprisonment, Delaware State Police said.
Police said they were called to a home on Savannah Road Thursday evening to investigate a possible sexual assault. Police described the victim as a 16-year-old girl.
