Great pictures DR MATTHEW....love the blue lights.
I'm not exactly sure what a Roku is either, but I have a bunch of friend who use it, and are very happy with it. It seems to be meant for people who can only watch their favorite shows "on delay" and not "live". I think.
Very helpful answers about BURLESQUE last night - LOL! :)
Wow!
It looks like Portland sure dodged a bullet.

I always try to be helpful, FJL.
And just for that great help, Laura :) - here's a draft of my parody of Cher's openly kvetching about getting older physically but trying to stay modern with her fans.

DR Jane - The Wii is basically just another gaming console. Just like XBox and Playstation - and Atari(!) - the only way to view the games is via a TV. It's not a self-contained system.

It snowed here for the first time last night. Doesn't look like that much. And hopefully it will all melt. But there is a good 1cm on the ground. I took out my winter boots yesterday. Yuck! I don't like winter.

What bugs me most in the world today is the fact that there isn't a good NY-style deli here in Austin, TX.

Today is my mother's 92nd birthday

I'm up after a good eight hours of sleep (I didn't get to bed until two).
Saturday morning greetings! Today is my mother's 92nd birthday, so we're going to pick her up in about an hour to spend the day at our house and have a modified Thanksgiving dinner - turkey breast, stuffing from a box, sweet potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie.
An entire Thanksgiving day meal - including turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and even a sweet potato desert - all condensed down into one horrifying cake. The recipe is available on Chow.com [see link above], for those of you with adventurous and open-minded families.
But world wide - why people hate and hurt each other
I just do not understand it
The story about the bomb attempt in Portland was the lead story on NPR this morning...
It's good to know that his plot was foiled, although knowing that this operation has been going on for months, well... :-\
Ginny,
You should be so proud of your Michegan team - so in the spirit of the season - so very giving!

CALUMET! CALUMET!

Thank you to DRs FJL, Elmore, and Laura for the birthday wishes for my Mom. She's here now and we're watching the Michigan/Ohio State game.
Thanks, DR TCB, for both the birthday wishes for Mom and the football sympathies.

Press reports say the government deliberately let the plot develop so they could gather more evidence (no lives were at stake); however, I suspect a good defense could be made based on entrapment.

Since we are discussing different computer jargon, does anyone understand cloud.com?
That's what I've been thinking - I still have yet to read any of the in-depth new coverage. I'm also guessing that since he actually attempted the bombing, that that would be a "stronger" charge than just planning it. ???
A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press on Saturday that federal agents began investigating the suspect after receiving a tip from someone who was concerned about the teenager.
The FBI affidavit that outlined the investigation alleges that Mohamud planned the attack for months, at one point mailing bomb components to FBI operatives, whom he believed were assembling the device.
…
Mohamud, a naturalized U.S. citizen living in Corvallis, was charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. A court appearance was set for Monday. Few details were available about him late Friday.
Authorities allowed the plot to proceed in order to build up enough evidence to charge the suspect with attempt.
Laugh all you want about the cake, but I need to transport our Christmas dinner to Lima because Richard and I are going on Christmas Eve (Friday) and staying 'til after church on Sunday (Dec. 26). We are staying in a guest house at a retirement community and will have cooking facilities, but I want to make a lot of it ahead and transportable. I've bookmarked the recipe.

I figured since they let him complete the plan, while making sure no harm could be done, there is an excellent case against him.

Yes, but...the Feds were instrumental from Day 1 in helping him persue the plan - they provided the material, went with him on test runs, etc. One could suggest there would never have been an attempt without the Feds help - and that is the very core of an "entrapment" defense.

Cute photo Ginny.

I doubt entrapment would fly, but I don't know the details. For entrapment you have to prove essentially that but for the government activity you wouldn't have engaged in the activity. That's a hard thing to prove if you had the plan for the bomb. If it hadn't been for the government, he would likely have gotten his bomb materials elsewhere. That's not entrapment. Of course if the facts are different, then there may be a possibility

I think the issue will come down to "plan" versus "attempt" - the latter being a much more serious offense - while the plan originated with the perp, the Feds were clearly instrumental in assisting in maturing the "plan" into an actual "attempt".
It should be an interesting case to watch develop.

It is part of the addition to the house that includes the garage and isn't on the regular heating system. So, it has a built in electric heater, but it gets really cold in there.

Thanks, DR Jane! She loves her work and is very excited because Miami has become MAC-East champs and will play in the MAC championship next Friday in Detroit.
The announcer you hear is the announcer at the actual show. The TV announcers told their names, the owners, where they were from etc.For Jane http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/22825103/vp/40339882#40339882
Thank you. I got a kick out of the dogue de Bordeaux (french mastiff). I was surprised they only mention the number of the dog, not the name. I'm curious who the cutie of a Bernese Dog is. The Saint Bernard was also cute. Comparing the two Swiss dogs makes me wonder why so many people ask if Sherlock is a St. Bernard.
I think one big reason people thing that Sherlock is a St Bernard is because they don't know about Berners, but everyone knows St. Bernards. They seem to have similar body shape and size and the same colors although not the saem actual coloring. I could be wrong, but that's my guess

I'm sure you are correct. I've seen clothing for Bernese Mt. Dog owners that say "I'm not a Saint" It isn't just Sherlock. People pass him on the street saying "Beethoven" & I yell back "NO! Bernese Mt. Dog".;D

Oh...
For those DRs who may be interested, and don't have them yet on DVD or Blu-Ray, the first three seasons of "Mad Men" are only $9.99 each on Amazon right now. -And, yes, that's for the regular DVD or the Blu-Ray sets.
