Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a believer and spewed, and now it is time for you to post until the spewing cows come home.

Selfish and me-first people bother me in the world today.....bad behavior seems to be accepted everywhere.

MR BK - perhaps someone in FRANCE wrote your address incorrectly on the package.

Working today.  Oh well.

I am enjoying the Sherman Brothers Songbook cd.....with many tracks by Miss Annette Funicello and Miss Hayley Mills....and the Mike Soames singers doing songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Very disappointed that we get Mr Louis Armstrong singing Ten Feet Off the Ground from ....Family Band instead of the soundtrack version.  Although my favorite songs from that movie are Drummin' Drummin' Drummin' and West o' the Wide Missouri.

I'm not exactly sure what a Roku is either, but I have a bunch of friend who use it, and are very happy with it.  It seems to be meant for people who can only watch their favorite shows "on delay" and not "live". I think.

I wonder if Rokus are US only. Because until DR Cillaliz mentioned it I had never heard of one. And I don't know anyone who has one.  If people need to watch their favorite shows on delay isn't that what a dvd recorder/pvr is for?

I would guess it would be for being able to get channels that you wouldn't normally get.

I've said this before, but what bugs me is that we as a society fail to recognize that every other human being on this planet is as complex as we and our loved ones are, and that we tend to write off people very quickly based on one or two things they do.  Once we really take in the idea that every person's life is as important to him or her as ours is to ourselves, and deal with them recognizing this, we will be better for it - and I do feel the cruelty of much violence and humor desensitizes us to empathy with other people and behave towards them as if their feelings and existence were disposable.

What bothers me today is the growing intolerance of people. It could be traffic, political, personal. We've created our own personal spaces with cellphones and MP3s and what have you, and when someone enters then for whatever reason, we get all ugly. I am guilty of this to some extent, but it's not as bad as I have seen elsewhere.

Good morning, all! Jo and I have been out and about this morning. I took her to breakfast and then we went out to dad's property, found the For sale sign and got it back up and visible, did some shopping and now we are back home. Randy has not yet left Tennessee, which I suspect may be to avoid my taking him out to dinner tonight; he was really angry during our phone conversation. Right now, I'm quite angry with him, since I really did want to take him and Jo out,  so I am looking forward to Monday's return flight.

This afternoon I hope to see my friend Peggy Short, with whom I worked for too many years at Office Outfitters. She's got to be 87 now (she and my mother were friends in high school) and I haven't seen her in about 20 years. We did speak on the phone several years ago and I'm a bit embarrassed I've let so much time get by.

Saturday morning greetings!  Today is my mother's 92nd birthday, so we're going to pick her up in about an hour to spend the day at our house and have a modified Thanksgiving dinner - turkey breast, stuffing from a box, sweet potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie.

Well, here's a thought:

THANKSGIVING MEAL CAKE (http://www.chow.com/recipes/29029-thanksgiving-turkey-cake)

Quote
An entire Thanksgiving day meal - including turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and even a sweet potato desert - all condensed down into one horrifying cake. The recipe is available on Chow.com [see link above], for those of you with adventurous and open-minded families.

And a wish for the day:

MAY YOUR STUFFING BE TASTY,
MAY YOUR TURKEY BE PLUMP.
MAY YOUR POTATOES 'N GRAVY HAVE NARY A LUMP.
MAY YOUR YAMS BE DELICIOUS.
MAY YOUR PIES TAKE THE PRIZE,
MAY YOUR THANKSGIVING DINNER STAY OFF OF YOUR THIGHS!!

That's what I've been thinking - I still have yet to read any of the in-depth new coverage. I'm also guessing that since he actually attempted the bombing, that that would be a "stronger" charge than just planning it. ???

It is basically very high-end, high-tech online storage. However, instead of just being a storage center - a virtual hard-drive - it's actually an online data and software source. So... You know that mainframe computer that is probably in the basement of your office building? Well, just imagine it "out there".

That's what I've been thinking - I still have yet to read any of the in-depth new coverage. I'm also guessing that since he actually attempted the bombing, that that would be a "stronger" charge than just planning it. ???

So suggests the FOX News (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/11/27/feds-somali-born-teen-plotted-car-bombing-ore/) reports:

Quote
A law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press on Saturday that federal agents began investigating the suspect after receiving a tip from someone who was concerned about the teenager.

The FBI affidavit that outlined the investigation alleges that Mohamud planned the attack for months, at one point mailing bomb components to FBI operatives, whom he believed were assembling the device.

Mohamud, a naturalized U.S. citizen living in Corvallis, was charged with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. A court appearance was set for Monday. Few details were available about him late Friday.

Authorities allowed the plot to proceed in order to build up enough evidence to charge the suspect with attempt.

Laugh all you want about the cake, but I need to transport our Christmas dinner to Lima because Richard and I are going on Christmas Eve (Friday) and staying 'til after church on Sunday (Dec. 26).  We are staying in a guest house at a retirement community and will have cooking facilities, but I want to make a lot of it ahead and transportable.  I've bookmarked the recipe.

;D  It sort of looks like a Cottage pie cake.

The story about the bomb attempt in Portland was the lead story on NPR this morning...

It's good to know that his plot was foiled, although knowing that this operation has been going on for months, well... :-\

Press reports say the government deliberately let the plot develop so they could gather more evidence (no lives were at stake); however, I suspect a good defense could be made based on entrapment.

I figured since they let him complete the plan, while making sure no harm could be done, there is an excellent case against him.

Yes, but...the Feds were instrumental from Day 1 in helping him persue the plan - they provided the material, went with him on test runs, etc. One could suggest there would never have been an attempt without the Feds help - and that is the very core of an "entrapment" defense.

Except the Feds didn't instigate the plan.  Had they not "assisted" he might have found someone else to and accomplished his goal.

I doubt entrapment would fly, but I don't know the details.  For entrapment you have to prove essentially that but for the government activity you wouldn't have engaged in the activity.  That's a hard thing to prove if you had the plan for the bomb. If it hadn't been for the government, he would likely have gotten his bomb materials elsewhere.  That's not entrapment.   Of course if the facts are different, then there may be a possibility

I am tired, not sure why.  Anyway, I did manage to get plastic up on the windows on the west side of my living room.  It's still cold in here, btu I think it will help. Tomorrow I hope to be able to do the other windows in the living room. It makes a huge difference when it's windy.  I also put the plastic up on the door and window in my laundry/mud room.  It is part of the addition to the house that includes the garage and isn't on the regular heating system.  So, it has a built in electric heater, but it gets really cold in there.

I think the issue will come down to "plan" versus "attempt" - the latter being a much more serious offense - while the plan originated with the perp, the Feds were clearly instrumental in assisting in maturing the "plan" into an actual "attempt".

It should be an interesting case to watch develop.

OK, TOD- What I hate most about what's going on in the world is that people only want to hear things they agree with.  If someone has a different point of view, they are attacked, shunned, ridiculed etc.  It's happening by people of all political beliefs, so this isn't a one vs the others.  It's become "the way to be"    I think it distroys what used to be lively conversations about issues that were a good way for everyone to learn and grow.   I'm sure there are a lot of people who may have very interesting things to say, but they don't want to face the consequences so they don't say anything.   I think it's sad

Since my step-sister was working that day, they celebrated today and it was great to be able to be with them. Went out on a good, long day. Started with Pilates, followed by a fun showing of "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest." Satisfying ending to the film trilogy. Then I went with a friend out to see a Christmas parade, Santa, etc. at one of the larger resorts. The big  event for us was getting to pet the two live reindeer they brought in.

Chinese for dinner afterward -- sauteed fish with green vegetables, a fried seafood combo, a beef with noodle dish and wonton soup with chrysanthemum tea. The latter made me warble a little Sondheim.

Then a little shopping in which I found season 1 of "Bosom Buddies" for $6. Can hardly wait to start watching that.
