Well, you've read the notes, the notes had both wheat and chaff, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently separating the wheat from the chaff and are having quite a lot of fun doing so.
-
And the word of the day is: LOLLOP!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
It's very cold in Manhattan but that won't deter our trip to Lehman College in the Bronx to see the Wizard of Oz with Antonia!
-
I enjoyed the BRAIN EX clips, DR GINNY's photo album, Little Ricky hiding...LOL.....grapefruit meringue sounds intriguing.....
-
It is up to 11 degrees here.
-
Going to go exercise now!

This afternoon is the final run through before Tuesday's performance.
Pray for Rosemary's baby that every goes smoothly

Break legs, Michael S.!!

Well, I have to tell the children's story at church this morning. I should think about thinking about something to say.

I watched THE SOCIAL NETWORK on DVD last night. I'd seen it in a theater when it was first released.
It's an excellent film, one that I will certainly watch again in the future.
But, Like RAGING BULL and even CITIZEN KANE, it's a film that I admire, rather than "love".
I "love" CASABLANCA. I "love" THE MALTESE FALCON. I "love" THE GODFATHER.
The difference is that I "care" about the characters in the movies that I love. I'm fascinated by the characters in THE SOCIAL NETWORK and the other films, but I don't really like them.
Despite all its great critical awards, I'll be surprised if THE SOCIAL NETWORK wins the Best Picture Oscar. The Academy doesn't usually give that award to movies they don't "love".
What do you think?

Good morning, all! When I woke, I was having a peculiar dream about Rodgers & Hart's flop castration musical CHEE-CHEE. I was involved with a reading of it at the York Theatre, and it had been decided to record the show. So, I was trying to convnce my friends at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization to let us record the show with the original orchestrations instead of piano accompaniment. The sections of the dream I remember now are auditions and talking to someone about possibly recording orchestra tracks in Europe. And "Moon of My Delight," one of my fave Rodgers & Hart songs, kept running through my mind. The original score for that number is missing from the CHEE-CHEE scores at R&H, and I'm convinced that John McGlinn stole it from the archive in the early 1980s. I have a memory of Meg Bussert singing it around 1985 in a Gershwin-Rodgers & Hart concert that McGlinn conducted in Danbury, CT, and he had access to the full score to copy the number. However, the missing score did not turn up in the McGlinnventory, although one of the original Chinese-inspired paper covers that all of the scores are protected by did turn up. Hmmmmm. Coincidence? I think not.
Today, some writing, some tax work, some DVDs.

I liked the Roger Corman disk that MR BK was writing about. It is strange that both ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS and WAR OF THE SATELLITES seem to be British prints.....but NOT OF THIS EARTH is my favorite of the three.

DR ELMORE your dream defies interpretation.
-
My wonderful sister-in-law and chef par excellence JoAnn just sent me the first half of the 2011 taxes on that damned property in Ohio: my third is $519, and I guess it was lowered by $180 since the house has been torn down. So we've paid out now around $10,000 in taxes since 2007 and my brothers don't want to pay a realtor's commission! Amazing.
-
DR ELMORE your dream defies interpretation.
LOL! I'm happy it's no longer abot dead relatives.
-
And the word of the day is: LOLLOP!
And The Song Of The Day Is: BABY ELEPHANT WALK
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And my little patch of tundra - a.k.a. my backyard - looks very pretty in the morning light.
-
Lollop, Lollop
Oh Lollo-Lollo-Lollo
Lollop, Lollop
Oh Lollo-Lollo-Lollo
Lollop, Lollop
Oh Lollo-Lollo-Lollo
Lollop!

Well, I have to tell the children's story at church this morning. I should think about thinking about something to say.
If I were a good person, I'd get cleaned and go listen to your story. But I'm not a good person. You will be brilliant, and they will love you as always.

Sunday morning greetings! Because Fr. Richard was already scheduled to be off today, we did not go to Lima. It was nice to sleep in a bit and enjoy our newspapers and pancakes and bacon.

I'm guessing it won't be a Randy Vicar story.

Laura Harrington, who did the book for the Houston Grand Opera production of BABES IN TOYLAND, has posted some production photos I've never seen before. A photo of the set for the Toymaker's workshop was published in a book on scene design around 10 years ago, but here's the opening scene with the shoe house in the background, where the Widow Piper and her fourteen kids live.
-
And here's the Spider's Forest, with Dana Kreuger flying about as the Moth Queen. I cannot remember the name of our juvenile lead, who got worse as rehearsals went on.
-
Actually, I have seen chaff on many occasions. There are a great many wheat farms in Eastern Washington.
Also, I remember many years ago, when the Oscar for "Best Song" went to THE THEME FROM CHAFF.

Here's the opening of Act Two "Hail To christmas," at the gates of Toyland.
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day? I am up. I was actually up at eight-thirty, but I went back to bed and got up again about twenty minutes ago. Looks like another pretty day out.
-
Might I just say - page ONE?
-
Our leading lady's entrance in Act One. Leigh was wonderful, as were most of the cast.
-
Our villains, Jeff Lyons and Jonathan Freeman, who'd just finished doing some "voice work for Disney," he claimed. I about fell over when I read thereviews for ALADDIN a year later and found he was Jafar!

Page 2 Dance!

Here's the "March of the Toys" and our leading man, Eddie Bracken, singing "Toyland" to Ric Ryder.

Nicky decided that I needed to get out of bed at 9:00 a.m.; even though it was after midnight before I went to sleep. I got up, made coffee, gave Nick some kitty kookies, and then he went back to bed.

DR elmore - Ah! Dana Kreuger! I did two shows with here in DC - the musical version of Wings and Sunday in the Park with George. -And she and her husband threw great parties too!

And...
I believe I just woke up from the second - third? - nap of the day.
???

DR elmore - Ah! Dana Kreuger! I did two shows with here in DC - the musical version of Wings and Sunday in the Park with George. -And she and her husband threw great parties too!
I love Dana! Any singer who works with Peter Schickele is a hoot in my book, and I had seen Dana as Madame Bo Peep in PDQ Bach's OEDIPUS TEX where I thought I would pee from laughing so hard at her number "You murdered your father, you married your mother, you rascal! You're my kind of kid."
John Kalbfleisch brought her to the orchestration symposium at the Library of Congress in 2009 and it was great to see her after nearly 20 years. I introduced her to Sid Ramin, who helped Bernstein with the QUIET PLACE orchestrations and Dana remembered Sid from singing in the Houston Grand Opera premiere of A QUIET PLACE.

WINGS? As in Buddy Rogers?

When my mom and I went to Los Angeles in 1966, we caught a glimpse of Charles Buddy Rogers, in person, possibly at Movieland Wax Museum. I didn't know the name at the time, but it was one of the rare times I ever saw my mom "starstruck". I thought she might swoon.

Um, not quite. It's the musical adaptation of the Arthur Kopit play about a stroke victim. Jeff Lunden and Art Perlman did the music and lyrics, and the OCR was available on RCA/Victor. It's a true tour-de-force for the lead actress. -In fact, Dana won the Helen Hayes Award for Best Actress in a Musical for it.

I've written three pages and am just trying to finish the chapter I'm on - I know what the next chapter is, so that should go fairly quickly, but finishing the current chapter is slow going for some reason.

I was fortunate enough to interview Buddy Rogers at Pickfair. He was a very charming man.
In fact, hanging in my entry hall is a poster from WINGS, autographed to me from him.

Just took my first cardiac walk around the basement after being off for more than a week. I took it a bit slower than usual, but will now get back in the daily habit. The good news is that I didn't gain any weight on our vacation.

That IS Good News! I'm surprised to report that, I, following my sojourn into the Carolinas in December, discovered I'd lost 5 lbs. Even now, I feel more like that's just a dream than a reality. But it's twoo, it's twoo.

Speaking of fast food, did anyone read the story about Taco Bell being sued for calling the meat they use in their food "beef?"
I think I'd be more likely to sue them for calling it "Mexican food." Or even "Mexican-inspired food."

Imitation Mexican-Inspired Food dance!

I love the stage photos, Elmore.

I love Taco Bell! Let's throw rocks at the Olive Garden where everyone's a faux Italian family!

I love the stage photos, Elmore.
I wish there was one for the workshop; it was a Victorian gothic nightmare. I'll check Eduardo's site to see if he has a shot of it.

So, I made up native fish cards, each one with a word from the Bible verse (Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.) and drove to four stores trying to find mesh laundry bags (for the nets) to put the cards in, hauled my big fish net and the netting (to show how they threw the nets over the side of the boat) over to the church.
Guess what their Sunday School lesson was this morning.

Sounds exactly like Children's Time this morning at the church I play for. It's like all these churches use the same Lectionary or something. ;)

This was purely by chance. We aren't that organized.

I went to Eduardo's site, and this design says THE NUTCRACKER, but it's awfully close to the design for the Toyaker's Workshop from the year before!

1966, eh? A good choice of year - I'm sure you'll enjoy the new Hofstetter book :)
-
I've written about seven pages so far.
-
I also had to put together a medley for the Linda and Greg show - that I did with Boswell over the phone.
-
Now I'm taking a little break and will then try to write two or three more pages.

Yes and you did walk some while traveling.
-
DR Ron, congrats on losing 5 pounds while home for the holidays. Have you kept it off?
-
OY! I almost got killed on the way home from running errands. I was driving through an intersection and this &(#$*)(^&-ING JERK
driving a big pick-up truck with a blade on the front ran his red-light right in front of me. I honestly didn't think i was going to be able to stop or swerve and laid on the horn and slammed on the brakes (they don't do much good on the snow and ice). I think I missed the back of his pick-up by about 6 inches at the most. He went around the block and was right behind me for a short while and slowed way down..then after I turned off that road, he sped through another intersection. What a jerk. Luckily I was paying attention and other than being a bit frightened, am fine.
-
Yikes, DR Cillaliz! I'm glad you're OK - have a drink...
-
Thanks Ginny. I'm calmed down now, I had to go to Petco before coming home. I yelled and swore in the car and that made me feel better. I'm not leaving the house again until tomorrow.
-
How terribly scary!!! I am extremely happy you avoided the truck & blade!!! Were you able to get a report him?
Screaming in the car is good. :)
-
I am going to make myself a really nice dinner. I have a big piece of salmon and I think I'm going to bake it, make some mashed potatoes with sour cream and some sort of green vegetable (whatever i have in the freezer). should be good.
-

Screaming in the car is good. :)
No. I'm not going to report it. No one got hurt and there was no accident. It would be his word against mine, but after I avoided him and came to a stop, I turned and watched his light turn green. So I know he ran the light. He did go around the block and met me just down the street. I think he was coming back to make sure everything was ok. I appreciated that.

I meant did you report the driver at the time since you said he sped through another intersection after leaving you. Then the police could have kept an eye out for him if he continued driving recklessly.
If he was checking on you that was nice. :)

Hello. I think there was some discussion of Follies tickets. The tickets go on sale tomorrow for Kennedy Center members. I'm a member and will be glad to order tickets on behalf of anyone interested. Let me know!
-
So glad you're OK, Cilla,
And nice that it seems the driver came back to check on you.
That gives me faith that some people are decent, that he wouldn't have left you there had something happened.

Enjoyed the "Brain" videos, BK! I hope there'll be one in which Mr. Spirtas sings!

Terrific weight news, Ginny!

I've done nine pages and will now get ready for supper and show at Vitello's. Since it's early, I'll be home by nine and will write one or two more pages then. And then it's on to the last four chapters.

Thanks DR Laura and Kevin H

We are watching BLACK NARCISSUS on TCM.

I am still full from dinner. I made salmon, home made mashed potatoes with sour cream and chives and steamed peas. There are lots of left overs so I'm set for the next couple days.

Wow! I'm so very glad your alright, DR Cillaliz! What a close call.
Your talking about cursing in car made me think about how when I was a little girl who didn't drive, my Dad would swear up a storm sometimes while driving. I always asked him, "Why do you do that Daddy?" He would grumble but never really gave me an answer.
Then I started driving and the first time someone cut me off and almost caused me to have an accident the first words out of my mouth were-&#@$!! My Dad was with me and he just started laughing and said, "Remember when you asked me why I said those things? Now you know why!"

DR Danise - while you were away from us, I had a heart attack on August 3 and had a stent placed in the blocked and torn artery. I've been through cardiac rehab, changed my diet and exercise habits, lost 25 pounds (so far) and take a boatload of meds. It was a classic wake up call that I'm heeding to the max.

Ginny, I am glad you are doing well. Keep onward and upward

I've been through cardiac rehab, changed my diet and exercise habits, lost 25 pounds (so far) and take a boatload of meds. It was a classic wake up call that I'm heeding to the max.
Oh wow! I'm so sorry to hear that but I'm very glad that you are ok!
-
I am watching BLACK NARCISSUS as well.
Earlier today, we had the first instructors' rehearsal for Putnam County Dancing With the Stars. I didn't learn the dance, but I have two days to work on it.....whew!
I am thinking I will use Guy Haines' recording of PICK YOURSELF UP for my routine this year....I will meet my partner on Tuesday night and I am hoping she has SOME dance know how.
-
Ginny had us all pretty worried there.
-
BTW Danise, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the fair Ginny and she truly is a gem. Great person!
-
Ginny, I am glad you are doing well. Keep onward and upward
Thanks, DR DakotaCelt! No more Montgomery Inn or Graeter's for me - well, maybe, special occasions, ver-r-r-r-ry special.
-
I also picked up the rest of the scrapbooks from the theatre to continue work on the 50th Anniversary DVD. I got all the way up to 1980.....but I had to stop.
I couldn't pull into the theatre driveway because of the snow - so I parked next door at the Presbyterian Church and carried the scrapbooks over to my car.....and the must have weighed .... well A LOT!!! Ouch now my back hurts.

Thank you, DR Danise! I actually feel better than before and didn't even know I felt bad then.
-
AND there is nothing like standing in a dance studio with mirrors all around you to make you face the truth of your weight......no place to hide.
-
BTW Danise, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the fair Ginny and she truly is a gem. Great person!
I got to meet her in NYC. And she is a wonderful person.
-
DRs Danise and Dakota - *blush*
-
DR JRand - in the book I just finished reading, John Jakes' SAVANNAH, there is a character fighting for the Union who's from Putnam County, Indiana.
-
Ginny had us all pretty worried there.
I can imagine so! I kept seeing things in some of the posts that made me think something happened but I wasn't 100% sure. Being any HR person, I know about HIPPA so I wasn't sure if I should ask.
I felt bad the other night when I asked DR John if he had other health problems like me.
-
Welll.. It is true Ginny!
-
DRs Danise and Dakota - *blush*
Truth is truth! I only hope we have the chance to meet again. You and Dakota and everyone else that I have and haven't met yet.

From Jose:
They are. -And they are available at your local Whole Foods Market. -And they are also packaged under Trader Joe's house-brand.
Sure, rub it in that we don't have either of those store anywhere near us. ;)
The closest TJ's is just over two hours away in California.
The closest WF's is about four hours away in Bend, Oregon. Often when we are in Portland we go to Whole Foods or when in L.A.
I am jealous the closest TJ to me is in the Twin Cities and Rochester, MN
;D

Great story. ;D
-
You know sometimes dogs are just like having a kid.
I've bought some pretty expensive toys for them and where are they? All in the back yard to be rained on.
What is their favorite toys? Two .99 cent little "men" I got from Walmart. Both Sheena and Toby carry them everywhere and it's been at least a month or two since they got them.
-
I suggest you see if Walmart still has those toys. You might want to stock up on them. ;D
-
Hate to say it, Gang, but I have to go get my shower and head to bed. Another long work week looms ahead.
Have a good evening all!

I will.
Goodnight!

If anyone wants to take a stab at this drean go for it
I have had this off and on for years
I am in a black carriage or some sort of wagon with sides and it being pulled by horses. There are people speaking in a language I do not understand and they are in the wagon with me. The clothes are not of this century. There are loud booms and crashes out side of the carriage or wagon that iI am in

A Trader Joe's just opened up here in Olympia about a year ago...it's only about five or six miles away from my house. :)

I believe the Best Picture Oscar will go to THE KING'S SPEECH.
Me. too.
I'm watching a half-hour inside look at "The King's Speech" from BBC America and it's quite fascinating. I hope that they have something like this on the DVD. They talked about how someone found Lionel Logue's grandson and he had all of his grandfather's journals. About a week before they started pre-production, they were able to change the script to incorporate a few actual lines that Lionel and the king actually said. Pretty cool!
-
Falling asleep - 'night!
-
George, that does sound like an interesting documentary I had read that also about the grandson of Lionel Logue who had his papers. Very cool that they incorporated some of that in
It was an excellent movie
-
I believe that THE SOCIAL NETWORK will Win The Best Picure Award because overall IMHO It Is The Best Movie Of The Year
-
Thanks everyone.

I had a dream last night that George Clooney became engaged to a woman who had recently bought the house across the street from me and he was going to live there until the got married. I ran into him at the grocery store and he stopped by my driveway to try to fix the windshield wiper on the back of my car (which he couldn't do, but I could).
Then I was looking out my window and realized I had 22 bee stings on my back Then I woke up

Jack Lalanne has died at age 96
-
I thought he would make it to at least 100. :(
-
I read that. He lived a long life
-
Last night we watched the last episode of MEDIUM and strongly disliked it. Such a disappointing end to a series we have enjoyed very much.
-
I read that. He lived a long life
But he was invincible. Ninety six was much younger than I expected from him.
-
'night
-
He lived healthy for 96 years.
-
He died of pneumonia, which is common with older folks.
-
Good night Jane, pleasant dreams.
-
Good Evening!
OK... Well... I guess it is cold here in New York City now. ;)
-
DR Cillaliz - Whew!
-
In other news...
I did manage to make it out of my apartment earlier. I ended wandering around the Time-Warner Center for a bit. My friend, Tim, was back working at Tumi, so we chatted and caught up a bit. And then my friend, Bradley, met me there and we did some window shopping. And then we met some friends down in Chinatown for some dinner at Old Sichuan.
-
And then I came back here, turned on the TV, sat down on the couch... And, apparently, slept through most of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta". ::)
-
And now...
I think I'm going to go to bed. I obviously need some rest and sleep.
Goodnight.
-
;D
VIBES FOR EVERYONE.

Wow, I went through the last 7 or 8 days of posts. Lots been going on. 8)

Eyes on the Solar System
I think this is the website my astronomy meeting speaker recommended. He said one could spend hours there.

I need to go to sleep. Have a great week everyone.

Back from a nice dinner and a great show. The act has really come together and Jason was very generous in thanking me for the little bit of help I gave him. Great audience, too. More in the notes. I'll try to write another page or two now, but have been dealing with interim helper issues - they've been trying to split the work between the boyfriend and the best friend and it's too fragmented and I'm spending way too much time being a referee and worrying about stuff. The boyfriend is trying to protect the helper's job because I think he knows I'm very close to looking for a replacement, depending on what happens in the helper's life. I'm assured that tomorrow's CDs will ship tomorrow and that's all I care about right now. I totally forgot to announce our new title so I'll do that tonight at midnight.
-
Seems I need to take the tutorial in order to fly through space. Oh well maybe tomorrow night.
Listening to music is so much easier. Glad I managed to do that for a few hours today.
Along with laundry and yard work.
See ya. ;D
-
Have a great week ahead everyone.
:) ;) ;D 8) :-*
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I am going to crash for the night
Good Night and pleasant dreams!

I've watched "The Uninvited" (Paramount, 1944) with Ray Milland, Ruth Hussey, and Gail Russell about three times this weekend. Recorded it, again, off TCM...this time onto a new HDD-DVD recorder.
If anyone out there wants a DVD-R, leave me a private message and a mailing address. I still have it on my HDD and it takes only a couple of minutes to burn a copy.

Last night we watched the last episode of MEDIUM and strongly disliked it. Such a disappointing end to a series we have enjoyed very much.
I have a different take on this one. I've known the end was coming for about a month when NBC reduced its order form 18 episodes to 13 back in November.
I thought the final episode was very good. It was strange and disturbing, and not all based on fact as the real model for Allison and Joe and their daughters are alive and well.
I loved that final scene of Allison's passing...and of her reuniting with Joe...both young and in love with one another.

When I returned from South Carolina at the end of December, I had a lot of mail awaiting me.
One piece was a letter from my gym -- the Norman Marks Fitness Center. The letter was from Marks' daughter, Rhonda, informing me that after 65 years, the gym was closing its doors on January 7. Three weeks ago, I was in that gym for the last time. His daughter Wendie, who ran the gym with Rhonda for the past several years, told me they were in communication with Jack LaLanne who wanted some of his prototype gym equipment returned to him for his museum. I expressed some surprise and asked Wendie which equipment had been LaLanne's prototypes...and she walked me through the gym. Every single piece of equipment I had been training on the past two years -- as part of a program set up for me by one of the trainers there -- was on LaLanne's prototype equipment.
Norman Marks was a contemporary of LaLanne's. They both got their start here in Oakland. Both were close friends and competitors. Marks lived an extraordinary life, but not on LaLanne's level. When LaLanne moved south to begin his television career, Marks was the only game in town with an active gym owned and operated by an all-natural bodybuilder with world-class credentials. Marks died in November 2009. The gym had lost many customers when he became unable to be in the gym every day. This happened several years ago. After his death, his daughters hoped business would return, but it never picked up substantially enough to be profitable for them. They own the building and can lease it out or sell it, but Oakland has lost a landmark gym that was in operation longer than I've been alive.
It's sad to see these people pass, but it is inevitable. All things must pass, as they say.
Damn it!
