Well, you've read the notes, the notes burned the midnight oil and then some, and now it is time for you to post until the midnight cows come home.

BK,

In today's economy just how much does it cost to burn the midnight oil?

Perhaps you could switch to burning the midnight camel dung cow-patty.

Good morning, all! The laundry is in the washers and it's a grisly and gray morning in New York. we are in for some showers today, and I hope they happen after I finish the laundry.

Yes, BK, that you for your good wishes on page 23 or so; I had a pleasant evening doing other things than watching a program I had no interest in and posting comments. I am glad that several DRs hung in to the bitter end with you, and I am happy that the winners are happy and the folk at the HHW Partay had a good time. I worked at the computer for a while, then watched bits of a wonderful film of Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE directed by Peter Ustinov, and went to bed around 10:15.

When the laundry is finished, around 9:15 or so, I will head down to Toyland to (hopefully) finish the edits on Act one.

I put the laundry into the dryers around 10 minutes ago and the rains have begun. I have no idea how long this downpour will last but I hope it eases up in around 60 minutes.

Struck by a thunder and lightning storm at about page 20 - so I missed the last hour of the telecast AND the par-tay, but I have read the posts.

Congrats to THE KING'S SPEECH!

DR CP - RE: Helen Mirrin - I don't know who else I could be thinking of....I shall have to check my facts, because here on the inner web ANYONE can post ANYTHING so you know what you are reading is accurate and true.

The rain had slowed to a drizzle when I took my laundry out of the dryers. Everything is here, the clean bedding is on the bed, and it's time for some oatmeal before I head to Toyland.

I screwed up the printer on Saturday. I hope we can get a maintenance person in this week.

I do not remember my faux pas.....EVERYONE else does, though.

Couldn't have said it better.

But I do recall a faux pas a friend Bonnie made that I have learned from. Bonnie was talking to a woman she hadn't see in awhile, but she couldn't remember how long. She knew the woman had been pregnant and asked how the pregnancy was coming. The woman had given birth four years before. Bonnie wouldn't be stopped at that. She then asked the other woman how many months along she was with this baby -- and the woman wasn't pregnant. Ouch.

I already feel as if I've put in an 8 hour work day.  Manual labor.  Diverting water outside, unplugging drains as well.  Sucking up basement water one gallon at a time with the handy dandy small wet-vac. . .time to loosen up the muscles with a hot bath before I do the daily running around.  Then it's back to the basement to see if everything has dried out.
Fortunately, there are no valuables on the cellar floor; I learned that lesson many moons ago.

I have a well-ingrained habit of whittling everyone's name to the first syllable once I get to know them well enough.  Shelley becomes Shell, Jacob become Jake, etc..

Then about two years ago, a guy named Shittah started to work in my office.

While I never made the actual faux pas, a few times I came close and it wound up sounding even worse when I stressed the final syllable.  Fortunately for me, the guy had a sense of humor about his name.  But even so...

Who knows DR JANE.....but it was the same people who thought Franco and Hathaway would be dynamite hosts.

I think Anne Hathaway is a very lovely person and if she had shared the hosting duties with maybe three other socialable and substantial stars, I wouldn't have minded her flightiness so much.  But having to carry the entire evening on her shoulders (alone, as it turned out) did not work for me.

Mr. Franco, on the other hand, plainly did not want to be there from the get-go and I would have gladly granted his wish.

I'll decide later if I will risk driving back from my PT appointment.  I need to go to therapy as it helps my shoulder, however, because of my shoulder I'm hesitant to drive the car if I need both arms on the steering wheel to control it if I hit ice.

The mac mail program is completely spazzing out this morning.  I may just stop using it, because what should work well doesn't.  It used to, but it just gets worse and worse.  I used to think the problems were all because whatever servers are in use, i.e. AOL, gmail, roadrunner, were glitching or not working, but that isn't the case now.  I tried five times this morning to move stuff to either the trash or a saved folder and each time everything was put right back into the current mail list.  I finally got it all moved after the mail program quit.  I restarted and it was fine.  Then I tried to respond to an e-mail and it wouldn't do it.  Then I responded to another e-mail and it did it.  Then I went back to the original e-mail and responded again - it wouldn't do it.  It's just too annoyingly annoying.

DR jane i ended up going swimming this morning. I only did about 6 lengths of front crawl cause that is what put the most stress on my shoulder.

The breast stroke) which i normally do not do felt much better. So i did that much of the time. I was also able to swim on my back with a flutterboard behind my head. And I was able to swim on my front with a flutterboard.

Good.  Vibes your shoulder doesn't hurt this afternoon!!   I too would prefer to do the crawl instead of the breast stroke.  Only time will tell if my right shoulder can ever do that motion again.  My therapist said he can't increase the stretch of my arm & shoulder.  I am better than most people who have had the same surgery.

While catching up on last night's posts, here are some comments:

re: the interviewers.  I watched the pre-show on E! so i didn't have to sit through crappy interviews. It was only Ryan Seacrest (who I think is very good at these types of interviews).

I thought Hailee Steinfeld looked sweet and age-appropriate. I did not like Jennifer Hudson's tangerine dress (didn't hate it just didn't like the color or the bustline). I liked Cate Blanchett's dress (pink) but didn't love it. Hillary Swank - very nice. Halle Berry -stunning!  Really liked Gwyneth Paltrow's dress. Didn't care for Nicole Kidman's dress. I really liked Natalie Portman's purple dress. And liked her hair down. Did not like her other award looks this year.

Red dresses - liked Jennifer Lawrence -simple but beautiful. Liked Anne Hathaway's red carpet dress. Sandra Bullock's was nice. But i liked the first two better. Liked Penelope Cruz's too (and she just had a baby!).

TOD:

I have a well-ingrained habit of whittling everyone's name to the first syllable once I get to know them well enough.  Shelley becomes Shell, Jacob become Jake, etc..

Then about two years ago, a guy named Shittah started to work in my office.

While I never made the actual faux pas, a few times I came close and it wound up sounding even worse when I stressed the final syllable.  Fortunately for me, the guy had a sense of humor about his name.  But even so...

LOL I thought you were setting up a joke.

So did I!

Just called and confirmend it with the SC Journal, so it's official.   I probably won't get the passes until later this week or next week because they haven't gotten them from the theater yet.   I'm not sure they are good for every movie, I know there are sometimes movies that say "no passes" but I can deal with that

Since I recorded the show I sped through the interviews.

I liked Sandra's red dress the best.  I had mixed feelings about the bathing suit look on Jennifer though I admit she looked great in it.  I didn't care of Penelope's dress.

I can do the movement (of front crawl) and it doesn't kill. It just doesn't feel right. I kept having to rub my arm.

Best to wait until your shoulder feels better.  I still prefer my lopsided crawl to doing the breast stroke.

The problem with my health insurance is that I cannot gamble with them: if I send them a payment tomorrow, they may not get it for two weeks. Or, if I assume this will be the case, it will arrive in two days and the check will bounce by Friday. Last year I had to stop payment on a check and hand deliver a new one on the deadline date since the original check hadn't arrived after I mailed it two weeks earlier. In January, I mailed it early and it bounced within two days of my mailing it!

Since I recorded the show I sped through the interviews.

I liked Sandra's red dress the best.  I had mixed feelings about the bathing suit look on Jennifer though I admit she looked great in it.  I didn't care of Penelope's dress.

I thought that Penelope's dress looked much different on tv vs photos. I liked it better on the red carpet. I can't believe how different it photographed.

I don't remember seeing her on the red carpet.

I actually tried something interesting for front crawl. I put my left arm straight out and kept it straight. And then just kept doing the crawl with my right arm. It was very odd, but didn't hurt my left shoulder.

I didn't feel like I was getting enough exercise that way though.

Keep it up and you'll swim in a circle!

I wasn't able to watch the Oscars and also post last night.  Nicky wasn't feeling well, and he ended up crashing on my lap. so I couldn't get to the computer.  Sometimes life interupts HHW.

Personally I enjoyed the Oscars last night.  I was disappointed that there wasn't one single suprise.  All the awards went down the line as expected.  I thought Mr. Franco and Ms Hathaway managed sto stay out of the way.  Their material was pretty lame, but does anyone really tune it to laugh at the jokes?  The show is about the awards, and I thought those were done well.

Hi HHW people! I hope you will forgive me for popping in out of the proverbial blue like this, but I had a question and I thought "Who might know better than the theater-savvy crowd at HHW?"  DH Jed and I went to see Next To Normal at the 5th Ave in Seattle last night. The show opened on Thursday, I believe.  Alice Ripley was still in as Diana and she sounded HORRIBLE!  I had never heard the OCR, so I had nothing to compare it to, and I was astounded at how off-key, raspy, and warbling she sounded.  Jed, who knows the OCR pretty well, sat there with his mouth hanging open.  The final shocker?  They announced over the PA system that her understudy would be taking over for Act 2.  Never seen that happen mid-show before.
I have seen rumblings on the web that her voice has been having trouble for awhile...

So...anyone know what the deal is? Why is she still doing the show??  It it really just illness or is her voice thrashed beyond repair?

I loved her interpretation of the character, there is no question that she lives and breathes that role, but the flat and shaky singing was distracting to the point of irritation.  The PA announcement attributed the cast change to illness...but I've heard actors sing while ill, and I've never heard a head cold do that to a voice.  If she really was that sick, then she was foolish for going on and pushing her voice like that.

How could they leave out a classic like Betty Garrett.  I bet they said she is known for her work in television.
I think she died too recently.

I am curious, does the deceased celebrity have to be a member of the Academy to be mentioned?  If we are talking about names left off, how about James MacArthur?

I just got an e-mail proclaiming that THE BOOK OF MORMONS is the next PRODUCERS/HAIRSPRAY.  Hmmm...
I heard from someone over the weekend who did not crack a smile during the evening. He is not a religious person, but he got tired of hearing "F--- you, God" what he said was incessantly. Or may it's because he isn't religious ...

I think this one is really going to divide audiences.

So I ran to the library to get "Freedom Writers" with Hilary Swenk. Then watched the movie, cranked out four pages and was the second one to turn in the paper. Guess the rest of the class failed to notice the deadline, too.

I don't think he should feel bad about having a natural reaction to something he didn't want to win.  With all the hype between the two I found his reaction understandable.
