Well, you've read the notes, the notes never slept, and now it is time for you to post until the never sleeping cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OEILLADE!
-
Woo hoo first after BK
-
Boy THAT never happens
-
I don't have much to say. I was watching some of the I am Joplin stuff on the net from their event last night to get the kids ready to go back to school. I'm going to drive mom and dad there for Thanksgiving.
-
Safe travels, BK
-
Ok, time for bed. Hope the thunderstorms don't keep me awake, but the rain is very welcome, so I'm not complaining
-
BUT FIRST>>>>> Congrats to JRand on a successful opening night (something I read on that other site)!
-
I have been listening to satellite radio too much. I have no idea what is in my CD player. Yikes, I hate to admit that
-
And...
Goodnight.

~~~Excellent Vibes and Xylophones for a Safe, Secure, and On-Time Flight for BK!!~~~
Morning all.
That is all.
-
We will be going to Poughkeepsie for the weekend so I won't be around to listen or view anything.
-
Travel vibes for MR BK and for DR BEN.
-
I'm up, packed and waiting for the car to arrive. I was in bed by ten but it took me a while to fall asleep. Once asleep I kept dreaming that the alarm hadn't gone off. I finally got up at four-fifteen, a half-hour early, so the alarm didn't go off, since I shut it off before it had a chance to at 4:45.
-
Opening night was fine with a few fumfers here and there.....but thanks to all for the vibes and good wishes!
I am working 1/2 day today.....
DR TCB....we did get done in time to set the show for tonight's performance.....but barely!!!
The weather is cooperating and we have a nice cool theatre for most of the show!
-
Now I have to get things ready for work.
Back this afternoon.....I hope.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Safe travels to BK, Ben, Elmore and whoever else is moving about this weekend.
-
Glad things went well, fumfers and all, JRand.
Good morning, all! It was a night of terrible sleep, about 6 hours at most, provoked either by the panic of too little recording sessions in Dublin or my fear of flying, neither of which is particularly healthy. The fear of sessions has been caused by the fact that the novices to the recording world, without asking advice from the Grammy-winning producer or me, has only scheduled six sessions to record full chorus, soloists and orchestra in two hours of music, and I think we need a minimum of 9-10, allowing for vocalists postponing to protect the voice, power failure, bad takes, and other errors plus some catchup time. Both the producer and I are concerned. so she's unhappy with me for decisions I made three months ago when my requests for feedback got nothing, and I'm unhappy with her because she spreads herself too thin at times, lke missing a deadline to make her opinion of our leading lady's voice known.
Two weeks ago I was told we had all 8 sessions back, and then, suddenly, we were back to six. This recording is a litmus test for both the producer and me, and this recording will determine whether or not we continue. As to my fear of flying, I hate long flights and I have to spend part of my day determining the whys and wherefores of getting my butt to Newark with too much luggage.
The first part of my day is taking care of some family business for my brother randy, so I have to get some papers signed and notarized and returned to Ohio by Priority Mail. I've decided that the payments I mailed on July 2 were destroyed in a US Postal conveyor belt/sorting machine disaster, since no check I mailed 10 days ago appears to have reached its destination and cleared. This is ridiculous/
Then I am off to Toyland to check on the office before I leave town. On my way back, I'll stop at Port Authority, see about a bus to Newark tomorrow, perhaps purchase the ticket.
More coffee and then I am off to accomplish much.
I hope I can stay awake that long!
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm currently logging on from the Airspace Lounge at BWI.
-
We will be going to Poughkeepsie for the weekend so I won't be around to listen or view anything.
The train ride up along the Hudson is one of my favorites. And Poughkeepsie always looks to be an enticing place to visit. Hope you enjoy your visit!
-
Alas, I should have been in the air an hour and fifteen minutes ago, but due to various delays in getting here this morning - including my own - I missed my flight. Thankfully, there was room on the 12:30pm flight. So, I'll still be getting to San Diego today, just six hours later than originally scheduled/planned.
Congrats to DR JRand on his opening night of CAMELOT!
-
In the meantime, I'm taking up residence in the Airspace Lounge here at BWI. It's basically a pay-for-a-day Admirals Club set up. It's not too bad. Free Wi-Fi, unlimited coffe and soft drinks, snacks, and one meal or alchoholic beverage are included in the one-time fee of $17.50. Kind of a bargain.
I, too, love that train ride up the Hudson River, and I really need to do it again this Fall once the leaves starts to change.
-I'm not sure I'd call Poughkeepsie "enticing", but I do love the campus of Vassar.
Otherwise, I had quite a nice time at an impromptu post-show gathering at the apartment of the dance captain last night. There were about 10 people from the cast and crew, two adorable puppies, and various food and drinks. Oh, and I was introduced to the TV show, "Dance Moms", on Lifetime TV. I may have to add that to my DVR queue.
Kyle, our "Dream Curly"', then graciously allowed me to stay overnight at his place so that I wouldn't have such a long drive this morning to BWI. Alas, even though I had avoided the morning rush hour traffic from Virginia to Baltimore, I did not avoid the morning rush hour traffic from DC to Baltimore. It took about 20 minutes longer than I had planned/GoogleMap'd...
And then because the big arrow pointing to the where the entrance to the Daily Lot at BWI was obscured by a tree AND a construction sign, I ended up having to drive around the airport loop for an extra ten minutes trying to get back to the garage. I did get to the check-in desk 30 minutes before my flight, but with the security screening line(!!!!!!!) there was no way I was going to make it to my gate in time. -The security screening line was truly one of the longest ones I've ever been in.
But at least now I can have a leisurely breakfast, some beverages, a snack and free WiFi before my flight.
On a related note, Anne Midgette also mentioned OKLAHOMA! in a recent blog article. She was talking about the "opera-ization" of the American Musical. Quite an interesting read. And we also got mentioned in a recent restaurant review too. ;)
-
The Anne Midgette article I mentioned:
The opera-izing of the American musical (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/classical-beat/post/the-opera-izing-of-the-american-musical/2011/08/07/gIQAnpMf2I_blog.html)
*She also talks about the recent production of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN up at Glimmerglass that starred Deborah Voigt and Rod Gilfry.
-
DR Jane, I have not watched Falling Skies as it has not aired here. But if it does I will watch it. Or I may watch it at some point online.
-
And the restaurant review:
Station 4 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/gog/restaurants/station-4,1211843/critic-review.html)
Alas, I'd have to agree with the reviewer on this one. And I also knew that those duck fat fries were from a freezer bag. But at least it's good to know that Tom Sietsema is familiar with the show. ;)
TOD:
As of 9am, I have nothing new to watch this weekend.
Perhaps something will arrive in today's mail.
-
We have dipped into Hulu for the first time.
We love Doc Martin but have not seen it in order and we wanted to watch it from the beginning. I've also missed some episodes because of the dentist appointment (I have evening appointments from 6pm to 8pm and the show begins at 8pm and we don't have a DVR or recordable DVD player and our VCR only plays back tapes). We watched the first 3 episodes. It takes some getting use to because we're watching it on a laptop in the living room. If we shift in our chairs it can cause viewing issues. We also have commercials. We are watching it on Hulu but not directly through the Hulu site because when I went to Hulu and clicked Play I was told the series is for "mature" audiences and I needed to register and log in before I could watch. I don't need to register to watch no friggin' TV shows so I went to tv.blinkx.com. They also say it's for mature audiences but all you have to do is choose the year you were born (or any year that makes you 18 or older) and you are then taken to Hulu to watch.
We may try to watch more episodes when we return from Poughkeepsie.
Hopefully this (http://www.fox40.com/news/headlines/wpix-jet-blue-urinate-story,0,4762788.story) won't happen to BK on his JetBlue flight.
(This story made me SO angry--what was the Port Authority thinking? Hopefully there's a good civil attorney who can find something to sue the idiot for).
I also slept poorly last night and had the inevitable dream where everything went wrong at the rehearsal dinner. I wonder if Mary Linda or her mother have had dreams like that about the wedding?
Anyway, today I must finish up the errands that didn't get done yesterday and ready the guest room for ML's arrival tonight. She will be joined there tomorrow night by her mother and grandmother who are driving from Michigan in the morning for the 1:30pm bridal shower.
Toyland was fine. The cleaning man had been in and tidied up our mess.
I have accomplished all of my errands, so I think I will do the laundry and consider it finished. I can spend tomorrow tidying the apartment before I head to 41st and 8th Ave. While things are drying, I'll walk to Citibank and withdraw some cash for my trip.
I just called my landlord and the rent check I mailed last Wednesday was posted yesterday. One more worry down.
Thanks, DR George! I'm coping. We still don't have anyone for the silly ass English role, Sir Reggie, and they keep throwing opera singers for what is essentially a Gilbert & Sullivan patter song with comedy timing at me. Oy!
-
And the laundry is finished.
-
And I've made my last trip to the market until I return.
Aaarrrgh - I'm so frustrated! I designed a cute invitation for Rob and Mary Linda's rehearsal dinner, printed it and put it on a flash drive, and went to Staples yesterday to have it printed. The tech said we'd get a better print from the flash drive, but she couldn't open it because it's in Pages (Mac's equivalent to Word). So, I came home and turned it into a PDF and went back out there today. Same tech - she could open it but when she tried to send it to the printer she got the error message "Insufficient data for printing" or something like that. Of course, she said, "Well, it's because you have a Mac." That's what they all say...
Hello from NY and my hotel. The flight was fast and comfortable. I was a little further back than I like, but still in an extra leg room seat (all the front seats were taken - that is very unusual - I have a second row seat coming home). I thought traffic was going to be horrendous, but it wasn't bad at all. Had a very nice cabbie. The hotel, which is new to me and I found on Quikbook with really good rates, looked a little funky when I came in (it's on 46th on the East Side, but just off Fifth) - no check-in desk - totally weird. There's a little office and I gave them my name - they already had my key and I was taken to my second floor room. Once their all funk disappeared. The room is really nice, everything is new, there's room to actually move around and there's even a little patio with a table and chair.
Ginny, I used to use Kinko's some years ago and at that time they were Mac-based. You may want to keep them in mind for "unusual" copy needs.
DR Jeanne, Kinko's was a possibility but there isn't one close by. My friend Suzy, who's a graphic designer and a Mac person, recommended a local printer. So, I've been over there and will have my invitations Monday - on higher quality paper and at about half the cost of Staples.
Good Afternoon!
Greetings from Houston.
-
The flight from BWI to IAH was OK. I zonked out for most of it, and, thankfully, the two people to my right - I was on the aisle - did not need to get up during the flight. Alas, those two people talked the whole time. It was a grandmother and her teenage grandson, so the "forced" eavesdropping wasn't too bad, but... He sure did like to talk a lot. Especially about every article in the in-flight magazine. ::)
-
Once I got to IAH, I realized I had a three-hour instead of a two-hour layover. So I did some terminal hopping to grab some food - BBQ and Do-Nuts - and now I'm waiting at my gate for boardng to begin in about 45 minutes.
No matter the time I fly I never drink. It dehydrates you, plus it make motion sickness worse. I don't know how anyone could have 8 drinks before flying, especially an 18 year old. I get how an 18 year old wouldn't understand not to drink, just how he was served unless the originating state had a lower age limit for alcoholic beverages.
You know what the coolest thing about the hotel is - they have umbrellas in the closet in case of rain. I've never seen that before.
I'm surprised you have never seen that. If umbrella's aren't in the room most nice hotels have one if you ask.
-
Fred, I enjoyed your Gershwin Ghosts parody.
Ditto, four!
;D
Thanks!!!!!
Ginny, our previous pastor used a Mac thing called Pagemaker or something like that. I couldn't open ANY of his stuff. None of us could. Very frustrating.
-
Laura of course the previous pastor did that just to frustrate everyone ;)
-
Okay, lets get going!
-
Page Five!
I think it is a shame that Kickstarter does not allow me to post a campaign to save myself from ending up living in my car!
Hmmm, maybe I could turn it my life into a new reality series?
DR Laura, converting to a PDF usually does the trick and the tech at Staples could open mine, but she couldn't get the printer to recognize it. I think it was operator error...
-
DR Jeanne, Kinko's was a possibility but there isn't one close by. My friend Suzy, who's a graphic designer and a Mac person, recommended a local printer. So, I've been over there and will have my invitations Monday - on higher quality paper and at about half the cost of Staples.
Great deal, Ginny! I love it when that happens. :D
On a related note, Anne Midgette also mentioned OKLAHOMA! in a recent blog article. She was talking about the "opera-ization" of the American Musical. Quite an interesting read. And we also got mentioned in a recent restaurant review too. ;)
I found this article very condescending. Then again, I usually find it condescending when the "classical music" writers are assigned to anything having to do with the theater. Maybe Deborah Voigt is slumming it. I just think Midgette, whose writing often leaves something to be desired even when she's writing about classical music, displays a case of not wanting to be anywhere near Glimmerglass unless it's for a "serious" piece of writing.
Yes, "Annie Get Your Gun" is not "Oklahoma!" but both scores are serious pieces of American music, each in a different way.
Sermon over.
Quote from JOSE--[Kyle, our "Dream Curly"', then graciously allowed me to stay overnight at his place so that I wouldn't have such a long drive this morning to BWI.
"SLEEPING WITH DREAM CURLY" the title of my next book.
Given a comment from Jose a few days about dreamy Dream Curly, I'm sure the book will be a sizzler.
* * * * * NO MORE WORRY VIBES FOR DR ELMORE * * * * *
STAYING IN YOUR HOME VIBES FOR DR TCB!!!!
'night
Last of the five Bing Crosby movies. Betty Hutton is in this one. Something about women joining the forces during WWII, while Bing sings "That Old Black Magic." Johnny Mercer/Harold Arlen score. The music's great.
-
STAYING IN YOUR HOME VIBES FOR DR TCB!!!!
Indeed.
-
Great "Sesame Street" parody, FJL.
-
Oh, no. More Bing Crosby and blackface.
-
Bing, blackface and "Ac-cent-u-ate the Positive."
-
Where is everybody?
-
Now, Bing is acting fey. It ain't any prettier than the blackface.
-
I have returned from a lovely evening with BK, David Wechter, and Barry Pearl. I would have loved to stay longer, but I'm fading fast.
Thank you, BK, for the pleasure of your company!
Good night, all!
-
Bruce, I'm guessing that your trip east is limited, and you won't be in the area long enough to see Porgy and Bess. I'd be keen to read your reaction to the production. Perhaps you'll return when the show transfers to NYC? Truth to tell, I love Porgy and Bess, but I haven't thought about it for years. I'm reminded of an old cartoon in The New Yorker, back when the United States relinquished control of the Panama Canal. Two guys are standing at a bar, and one guy says, "You know, I've never given a thought to the Panama Canal, but now that we're giving it up, I can't live without it." Somehow, I can’t seem to live without Porgy and Bess as originally written by George, DuBose, and Ira.
Welcome, Larry Rosler.
Welcome Larry Rosler!
Night, all.
Back from a lovelier than lovely and long supper at Joe Allen. elmore and I arrived at eight-thirty. It was grand fun to catch up. He had a hamburger and I had a small Caesar and a shrimp cocktail, intending to eat something else when Barry arrived. Then David Wechter, who's in NY producing a reality series for seven months joined us, so that was grand fun, too. At my suggestion, he had a small Caesar (he LOVED it) and the pulled pork sandwich (he LOVED it). Looking at his sandwich, I knew I couldn't wait until Barry got there, so I ordered one, too - it was great, as always. Instead of fries I had two cole slaws so it wasn't too horrendous, calorie-wise. Prior to meeting elmore, I'd walked around for an hour, so even though I didn't get to the gym or anything I did keep moving and walking briskly and I jogged back to the hotel.
-
It would be more than lovely if someone would get me off this damn page so we don't have a new all-time low before I post the notes.
-
Oh, we're beyond the all-time low. Whew.
-
Larry, glad to see you back. I would like to see this production of Porgy and Bess, but I'm not holding out much hope of liking it, based on what I've read. But, I, too, will keep an open mind. I saw the Houston Grand Opera production back in the 1970s and loved it.
-
Welcome, DR Larry Rosler!
-
Well, the guest of honor for tomorrow's bridal shower has arrived safely from Michigan, so - 'night!
-
Good Evening!
Greetings from San Diego, California!
-
So...
A woman almost passed out in the lavatory about 30 minutes after we left Houston. Thankfully, there were three doctors on board, and they helped her out. They also convinced the ground crew and the captain that we did NOT need to turn around and head back to Houston. WHEW!
-
Then once I landed in San Diego, my brother picked me up, we headed over to the restaurant where everyone was having dinner, I said Hello to everyone, then headed to In-N-Out for a Single, Animal Fries and a Strawberry Shake. <burp>
In the meantime, I'm taking up residence in the Airspace Lounge here at BWI. It's basically a pay-for-a-day Admirals Club set up. It's not too bad. Free Wi-Fi, unlimited coffe and soft drinks, snacks, and one meal or alchoholic beverage are included in the one-time fee of $17.50. Kind of a bargain.
You can eat or have an alcoholic drink, not do both? ;D
One or the other was included in the price of the day-pass. I could have paid an additional $4.00 if I wanted a glass of wine, but since it was before Noon... ;)
No matter the time I fly I never drink. It dehydrates you, plus it make motion sickness worse. I don't know how anyone could have 8 drinks before flying, especially an 18 year old. I get how an 18 year old wouldn't understand not to drink, just how he was served unless the originating state had a lower age limit for alcoholic beverages.
DR Jane - I can't drink on flights either. I still remember flying to Boston many years ago. I had ordered a gin and tonic during the flight. During the decent into Boston, it was like a knife was cutting through my head. The alcohol just crazy things to my sinuses. Never again.
-
Hello, again, DR Larry Rosler!
-
Yes, welcome back, D(ear)R(eader) Larry Rosler!
-
bk - Sounds like a great first night in NYC. Sleep well. *And midtown east, alas, is somewhat of an AT&T blackhole.
-
Jose, I don't know where my seat is but it's a house seat so I presume it will be fine.
Um... I didn't ask, but thanks for the info. ;)
~~~~~GOOD HEALTH, GOOD LIVING AND GOOD LIFE VIBES TO DR TCB~~~~~

Goodnight.
