Been reading up on this - apparently all new cc's and licenses have RFID chips and those can be read easily right through your wallet by any number of means including - get this - an iPhone app! I should think iPhone and Apple would not allow that but maybe they have no control over apps? They now sell wallets with shielded cc pockets and I'm looking into buying one of those today.
And the word of the day is: CONGLOBATE!
What a world we live in.

They had a story on the news about this a couple of months ago.
There is a new piece of equipment that allows you to read/copy a person's credit card through their wallet or purse. You just need to be standing next to them...even in a crowd.

TOD - One of the reasons I rarely use a credit card to pay a restaurant bill is that I don't like the idea of strangers taking my card who-knows-where do do who-knows-what with it.
Around 1988, I suddenly found on my credit card bill a series of charges that maxed out the card. I apparently had been buying shoes, clothing and other fashion accessories all over Milan, Rome, and (I think) Turin. I was not amused, but at that point I had never appplied for a passport so I had veritable proof that I could neither have been in Italy nor have afforded the trip on my meager Drama Book Shop salary.
Today is the day of the Mt. Park Community Garage Sale. (http://www.mountainparkhoa.com/Garage_Sale_2011.pdf) Please don't come before 7 a.m.
Jennifer, I think they do it so they can ascertain that the card is working. The Walmart charges that were authorized happened within four minutes of each other at different checkout lanes - so there may be more than one person doing this even in that same location. The additional charge that was declined happened an hour later. I gather they can print up as many cards as they like, send them to as many people in as many cities as they like. I think that cc security is going to have to deal with this in a much stronger way because these people are now so sophisticated that they can stand next to you and scan stuff that's in your wallet. Apparently they now make wallets that have some sort of protection against this - I'm looking into that.
The hotel is filled with French folk today, including the French rugby team, who beat the Irish this afternoon. I suspoect there may be in the team some serious French husband material for DR MBarnum in forty years. But he's not here.
Is 62000 a milestone?
Speaking of Nordstrom's, as DR Jeanne was, while in the Cincinnati store Thursday I heard bits and pieces of a song I'd like to identify. The lyrics were something like "to find someone who loves you, you have to be someone who loves you." Any ideas?
Flu shots now available. Isn't that a little early?
Several surprises: a sweet elderly gay couple came today looking for my DVDs, which had already pre-sold, but I had a bag of VHS, and one of the guys went to his car and brought back a HUGE three ring binder of all of his movie collection, alphabetized, so that he didn't buy something he already had. ;) I told him I needed one of those for CDs. Anyhoo, he looked through my VHS and just kept saying "Oh my God, Oh my God," and took most of them. It was sweet.
Then a total old codger came by and totally surprised me by wanting to open a computer tower I had for sale for parts, so that he could look at various components, and he took that. Don't judge a book. . .
Wow! 29 Guests and me.
The fact that LaChiusa is 12 explains a lot about his music.
Thankfully, no new understudies on for tonight's shows.
Whew!

So all of tonight's understudies are old?
Is Cilla working today?
Canada has adopted interesting way to safe guard your purchase. Just like your ATM card the Credit Cards have a chip in the, and you need a PIN to finalize the purchase. (An ATM card can be used as CC in the US without the pin number) In restaurants they bring over a small mobile machine where you insert the card, (look over the charges and aff tip) you put in your PIN number and you take out the card. The waiter never touches it. A look of retail stores have also adopted this methoc.
Perhaps the US should adopt this put a micro chip in ATM and force to put in your pin before the transaction can be completed amd do the same for credit cards. It may cost money to do this, but it would cut down on fraud and the milliond of dollars lost to fraud.
DR Cillaliz - I'm so sorry the Greek fest made you sick.
I didn't have any alcohol, so I think it has to be something I ate. I don't have a fever or any of the stomach flu symptoms.
I am sorry you aren't feeling well, Cilla. Beware of Greeks bearing grits.
Sorry I am not in top form.

Maybe you should have had some alcohol. It might have settled your stomach.
