Well, you've read the notes, the notes were fun and yet not fun, and now it is time for you to post until the fun but not fun cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: INVERECUND!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
hello to everyone
-
Le de DAH de dah dah!
-
Thanks to all for the Opening Night vibes. We had a fine performance and a GREAT audience. The play really works - Woody Allen has quite a way with dialog.....
And we have some good performers mixed in with the group....the audience was very vocal with its laughter, which is great...and we had an ALMOST sold out show!
And we are almost sold out tonight. Our audiences love comedies. My character has NOTHING funny to say, so I didn't get any laughs in the first act, although I got a few in the second act when I am drunk at the party....otherwise.....oh well.
-
And now I am getting ready to go to work.
Oh well.
-
TOD:

-
Friday morning greetings! Today is the first morning since our whirlwind wedding weekend that I woke up refreshed and with some energy for the day. I'm off in a bit for another try at the
vampire's blood lab and then to my hairdresser for a perm. Pray for Rosemary's baby...
-
DR Vixmom - you can always hope for sun. Hope you get it tomorrow!
-
Having drunk my tea, eaten my maple brown sugar cream of wheat, and prepared my turkey & swiss on white bread sandwich for lunch its off to work I go
-
Hi HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-
Have a good day, DR Vixmom!
-
Good morning. Accuweather is teasing us by saying we are supposed to get a lot of rain the next couple of days. Oh, I hope so! The last rain here was August 3, I believe.
-
Good morning, all! What a round of weird dreams last night! All I remember now is that I was staging somethng like "The Golden Apple," but it was set in Middletown, OH, and there were pioneers in a snow storm singing a silly number with guitars. I remember little of the cast, but I think Roger Roe whom I have not seen since 1976 was in it, and so were the Nederlanders and Bruce Pomahac. The dream was endless.
Right now the laundry is in the washers and I feel nauseous. I have a trek planned to the NYPL that I may cancel, and I forgot that I had also meant to renew my drivers license today, but I can do that on Monday morning.
DR JRand61, I forgot to send you opening night wishes, so I'm hsppy that it went well. I hope the rst of the run is sold out and successful.
It's about time to head back to the laundromat. And I need more coffee.
-
TOD:
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
and, if it arrives today:
The final season of RESCUE ME.
-
I have a breakfast meeting this morning, so I'm off.
-
We are doing laundry this afternoon when I return home from work.
-
We will most likely watch The Great Ziegfeld sometime this weekend and perhaps the television remake of Rebecca.
-
Continued great success to DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!!!!!
-
I can't find the song from DON'T DRINK THE WATER on youtube, but it started:
Telephone Tel Aviv
Tell 'em there's a DC leaving for New York
or is it from New York? Or something like that.

I'd like to go back to bed for another couple of hours, but I am up and moving.

MEdia Check:

DVD: Been digging through my unwatched DVDs and found COUSIN BETTE with Margaret Tyzack. That, along with a couple of Dean Martin Show discs will be this weekend's viewing.

My Mom had a brief scare at the rehab center yesterday. She discovered that when one is early on in taking Coumadin, one shouldn't blow one's nose too hard. This resulted in a spectacular nosebleed which took a while to stop. It also resulted in me researching on the web last night, review methods on how to remove blood stains from one of her favorite blouses. Turns out that hydogen peroxide does the trick.
-
TOD:
DVD: a couple of operas, LARKRISE TO CANDLEFORD (Season 1), Gervaise
CD: Classical Marches, John Wilson 2011 Proms, Guy Haines, Rebecca Luker, Johann Strauss, Jr, Oscar Straus
VCR: oy!

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it's Friday... Which is like a combo Sunday/Wednesday/Thursday for me.
-
Congrats to DR JRand and his Fellow Cast Members of Don't Drink the Water!!!!
-
And...
My back is twinge-y again this morning... :-\ I think I may borrow/buy an Aerobed later today. -Or at least when I get back from Atlanta on Tuesday.
::)
-
As for the Friday Media Check...
Well...
When my brother gave me my iPad, he also gave me a gift card for the iTunes store. I haven't bought any apps yet, but I certainly have been browsing them.

~~~~~CONTINUED RECOVERY VIBES FOR THE DEAR MOTHER OF DR DAN (THE MAN)~~~~~
-
DR vixmom - I hope you and your vixfamily are able to have a fun and rain-free time at Great Adventure.
There is this article in my local paper today that says that 50% of Canadians are illiterate.
They use a scale with 5 levels of literacy. One is very poor literacy skills. Level 2 has a capacity to deal with only simple clear material. Those first two levels are what is considered illiterate.
Level 3 is adequate to cope with demands of everyday life or the level if you completed high school.
I sort of find this shocking since i would say my 5 year old niece is a strong level 2.
-
DR Cillaliz, did you happen to catch BB when you got home last night?
They had this mixer contraption that spun for the HOH comp.IT made me sick just watching it. I can't even imagine being on it. Yuck!
-
I'm up, barely. I got up at seven thinking I would try to jog before CDs arrived but that was quite the error in judgment. I could barely move, so I just went back to bed - didn't really sleep but at least I rested for another hour.
-
And...
Good Afternoon!
-
And...
I just woke up from a cat nap.
-
And...
Since I didn't end up packing my luggage last night, I shall do so now.
Now that she's out of the hospital, she is, thank you.
Shirley Temple, here...
I'm back from the hairdresser's with my new perm. It's quite curly and I keep assuring Richard that it will calm down.
-
DR Dan (the Man), I'm sorry (but not surprised) to hear about your Mom's nosebleed. Not to alarm her, but another thing that can happen is a subconjunctival hemorrhage in which the white of the eye turns bright red. Coumadin is very tricky stuff.
-
Thanks to you all for the vibes for Mom!
-
Good morning, one and all.
"Break a Leg" to them what needs 'em.
"Vibes" to all what needs 'em.
TGIF, besides.
Actually, that happened to a friend of mine who was just on Plavix, DR Ginny. He developed a red spot below his iris. It took a week for it to start to fade.
They eyeball thing happened to me at church and freaked Fr. Richard out. It looks more gruesome than it is.
We are doing laundry this afternoon when I return home from work.
I need to start laundry tonight...or maybe tomorrow. But I need to do some SOON! ::)
-
My laudry is finished, which makes me quite happy, but I've cancelled my trip to the library. I'm feeling nauseous, so I'm staying home.
Yay - the sun is out here in SW Ohio and NYPL told me via Facebook that it's out in New York, too!
Have you been without a tv all this time, Ginny?
I've loved INCHWORM since I saw the movie.
Do any HHWers watch the show CARSON NATION?
I just came to find out that a girl I know, who was one of my niece Katie's best friends, is Carson's assistant Ashley on the show.
I adore Ashley, and I remember when she was getting ready to move to Los Angeles right after she and Katie graduated high school so as to get into show business.
She is such a sweetie and I am so happy to see that she is continuing her success down there...she had been working behind the scenes on various films as in the costuming area and also did the same on QUEER EYE FOR THE STRAIGHT GUY (which I was not aware of until today). I will have to start watching this show now.
Last time I saw her (which was at my niece's wedding) she was telling me about all of the various famous people she was "dressing." She was having lots of fun!
Did anybody happen to catch the CBS fall preview special on last night? It is such a good idea. I really get little from promos. ANd it's even hard to get a clear grasp when reading about the shows. But this preview special really described (and showed) what the shows were like.
There are 2 shows that they showed that i was already planning to try. One is Person of Interest with Ben from Lost. Not sure if this will be for me. But i will try it. The other is A Gifted Man with Patrick Wilson. Sort of seems like part Eli Stone, part Ghost Whisperer. I like him and think i will like this show.
I saw another show previewed that I had heard very little about. It's called Unforgettable. Some time in the last year on The View there was a segment with Marilu Henner that described a gift that she (and like 6 people in the US?) have where they can remember every detail about every day in their life.
I remember being so fascinated by this at the time (and i was surprised i'd never heard this about Marilu Henner before). Anyways this show Unforgettable is about a a woman (Piper something who was from Without a Trace) who has this condition. And i guess she solves cases.
-
I've never heard of Carson Nation. I wonder if it is on a channel i do not get.
-
JRand, so glad opening night went well!!
-
DR Jennifer I haven't even thought about new shows. When do they begin?
Thank you very much for the reminder.
-
Second night vibes (since I missed opening night...) to DR JRand and the DDTW company!
Good Afternoon!
Greetings from the Fichlander Green Room.
DR elmore - Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
You had mentioned returning to Dublin, and I also remember you mentioning that you might be returning there for some more work with the same company again. Any further info on that possibility?
DR JOSE ----- THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!
-
SO, tonight is movie night. I'm thinking sitting outside watching who knows what...usually something stupid or strange and having a few adult beverages with my friends would be the best way to shake off this week. Nothing terrible just many many minor frustrations that just made me want to strangle someone. I also got nothing done at the office which is not a good thing because I was behind. SO, I may have to work part of the weekend to avoid another frustrating week
-
I did learn yesterday that my neighbors' 7 year old grandson died in July after a severe asthma attack. So sad. He was a cutie. I can't believe I didn't know about it until now. I would have done something for them.
-
DR JOSE ----- THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!
YOU'RE WELCOME! YOU'RE WELCOME! YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
And speaking of the post office...
I had to stop by the one by my brother's house to buy some stamps. When I got there, there were signs saying their credit/debit card system was down and that they could only take cash at that time. Well...
I guess in order to make it easier for everyone in line to deal with that technological snafu, they had all of their windows open AND the supervisor was checking with everyone in line to see what they needed. It was truly one of the most efficient trips to the post office I've ever had! Go figure!
-
OK, the day ended on a good note. My client who has been trying to get his 5 kids here from Somalia (well they are in Kenya) just got a date for their interviews to get their visas. He came in and was very happy and gave me a hug. That feels much better
-
Last time I went to the post office was a very busy time of day and they only had one window open. They said due to cutbacks, that's how it will be staffed now. I like your post office better than mine, lol And yes, that was this week
-
Back from a work session, shipping CDs and finally picking up the replacement debit card - thank you USPS for taking nine days to deliver an envelope from Nebraska.
Just to play USPS's Advocate for a second:
-Is there a postmark on the envelope?
-Did PayPal say they sent out your new card on a particular date? Or that they just processed your request for a new card on a certain date?
Otherwise...
Glad to hear you got your new card to go in your new wallet.
-
He also brought a payment....that feels good too
Laters...
-
My mail has been taking forever lately and I can see Nebraska out my office window. I've heard lots of complaints about it. So, maybe it's on this end
-
I think I'm going to get out of here. Good news is I have a new computer and a new copier/printer system
-
The bad news is the new copier and printer don't work with the whole network (read to my old AND new computers) despite 3 visits from service/sales technicians in as many days.
-
We just had a call from the honeymooners - they're back in the USA!
-
ENough about the office.....I'm getting out of here.
Is it page 5 yet?
DR Ginny did the newlyweds enjoy Toronto?
Rob was driving when he called, so we didn't get too much information. I do know they celebrated his birthday by attending a concert by a group called "Within Temptation." Rob said the weather was so cold he had to buy a sweatshirt. And Mary Linda bought some household stuff.
-
It has been a lot of years since I've been to Toronto but I do remember nice shops there.
I've loved INCHWORM since I saw the movie.
That one starred Laurence Olivier and Jacqueline Bisset, right?
Did anybody happen to catch the CBS fall preview special on last night? It is such a good idea. I really get little from promos. ANd it's even hard to get a clear grasp when reading about the shows. But this preview special really described (and showed) what the shows were like.
There are 2 shows that they showed that i was already planning to try. One is Person of Interest with Ben from Lost. Not sure if this will be for me. But i will try it. The other is A Gifted Man with Patrick Wilson. Sort of seems like part Eli Stone, part Ghost Whisperer. I like him and think i will like this show.
I saw another show previewed that I had heard very little about. It's called Unforgettable. Some time in the last year on The View there was a segment with Marilu Henner that described a gift that she (and like 6 people in the US?) have where they can remember every detail about every day in their life.
I remember being so fascinated by this at the time (and i was surprised i'd never heard this about Marilu Henner before). Anyways this show Unforgettable is about a a woman (Piper something who was from Without a Trace) who has this condition. And i guess she solves cases.
Thanks for mentioning ths...if I'd've known about it, I would've watched it. I wonder if it's on CBS's website. I'll check when I get home. :)
I need to get a haircut. If you find a link for this will you please share it.
Well, that was easy to find...here it is: http://www.cbs.com/shows/fall_preview_2011/
:D
Thank you. I'm watching it now.
DR Jennifer I picked the same three as possible shows to watch.
We'll have to compare notes!
DR Jane, some shows start this coming week. I"m sure there is a list somewhere.
I know some shows that you don't watch are starting: Parenthood on tues, vampire diaries on thurs. I'll see if i can find a list. But most are starting the week after. I saw the dates in my sister's Entertainment Weekly.
There is this article in my local paper today that says that 50% of Canadians are illiterate.
They use a scale with 5 levels of literacy. One is very poor literacy skills. Level 2 has a capacity to deal with only simple clear material. Those first two levels are what is considered illiterate.
Level 3 is adequate to cope with demands of everyday life or the level if you completed high school.
I sort of find this shocking since i would say my 5 year old niece is a strong level 2.
We do know at least 50% of Canadians won't read about the study
I personally never thought of people in level 2 as being illiterate. I guess their definition means you have to have a strong comprehension of what you're reading. I always thought illiterate meant you could not read.
I actually tested my niece tonight. There was an Entertainment Weekly with information on the new tv shows. I would say it was fairly complex (maybe a level 3 or 4).
She could read most of the words (there were some big words she did not know). But she understood nothing. She could read the text. But did not understand what she was reading!
DR Cillaliz do you want to know re: BIG BROTHER what happened on the show or what happened after the show on the live feeds?
Anyhow i'll tell you what happened on the show. And then in another post i'll put spoiler warnings in case you don't want to know what happened afterwards.
So on last night's show they showed Adam having to nominate two people. He nominated Jordan and Porsche. The nominations really didn't matter since it was all about who won the veto.
They showed the veto comp that had occured a day or so before. Anyhow Porsche won. So she took herself off the block. So it was Rachel vs Jordan with Porsche being the only vote.
She had decided on the live feeds to vote out Jordan. So J knew she was going. P and J had never spoken the whole summer. And i actually think that Jordan would have beat her in F2 (Brendan, rachel, shelly and jeff for sure). Some people say that P should have kept Jordan because she would have beat her in the final HOH comps. But some of those are questions which J could have won.
Anyhow, Jordan sadly left. And the show ended with Rachel, Adam and Porsche on this huge mixer thing with batter in it. They had to stand on these steps while they were dunked and splashed with the goop. But the thing was spinning. It made me sick just watching it.
DR Jennifer you don't want your niece to be too smart ;)
www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/illiterate - Cachedil·lit·er·ate. adj i(l)-ˈli-t(ə-)rət\. Definition of ILLITERATE. 1. : having little or no education; especially : unable to read or write
BIG BROTHER LIVE FEED SPOILERS FROM TODAY
This will include who won part one of HOH comp started on yesterday's show.
Btw, there is no show until the final next wed at 9:30pm
Anyhow it was pretty obvious that this comp was not for Adam. He is too big to stand on that little step. And not too good at endurance. It was going to be between P and R. And it was. Adam jumped off early. Although in this case the comp was not just about endurance. It was also about who could stand on the spinning thing. It made me want to throw up watching it. And apparently P and A were not feeling well Anyhow Rachel was the winner. So now A and P will go up in part 2 of the hoh. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. And whoever wins that will go against R to be the final hoh winner. That person will get to decide who they take to the finals.I really really want Rachel to win the final hoh and to take adam.
I think I will send Matt H & ask what new shows he is interested in. I'll share any info I get.
I also tested her tonight with her french reading. I didn't think she'd be able to read too much. But she was quite good. There were some bigger french words she didn't know. But she was quite decent.
Apparently they will start reading in grade one next week (in french) and the teacher will let them read at their level. Although i think all kids but 2 can't read. So i guess their level will be pretty basic.
That definition is more what i thought. But i guess now you have to be able to comprehend a lot too.
I didn't even realize you could read like you understood what you were reading, but not understand a thing.
You are lucky you grow up learning a second language in your schools, so few do that here and it is a shame.
I actually think there is too much French in my niece's school. She only has 3 hours of English a week. Plus gym, and music. I feel like they should be learning how to read in English.
Most of the other things they do it doesn't matter what language it's done in. But i feel like none of the kids will know how to read in English. Although maybe they will pick it up once they learn to read in French.
-
Interesting Jennifer. Obviously your niece will be ok with English since you read so much with her.
My Mom had a brief scare at the rehab center yesterday. She discovered that when one is early on in taking Coumadin, one shouldn't blow one's nose too hard. This resulted in a spectacular nosebleed which took a while to stop. It also resulted in me researching on the web last night, review methods on how to remove blood stains from one of her favorite blouses. Turns out that hydogen peroxide does the trick.
Yikes! Vibes she's doing better.
Just got in and had a message from my mom that one of my dad's brothers had a heart attack today. They can't operate because his kidneys aren't functioning. Doesn't look good.
Good Evening!
A good show tonight!! A sold out house. And, because, it was sold out, we started about eight minutes late. And intermission ran long too. We normally play our final note around 10:40. Tonight it was played around 10:52. -The show in the other theater started up tonight too, so were just lots of audience members mulling about.
But, again, it was a good show.
-
Laura your rain apparently was diverted to New Jersey --- iit appears there is a 50 % chance of thunderstorms tomorrow --- today of course was gorgeous --- I was in the office from 9 - 5:30 then drove (2 hours!) to Brooklyn to conduct a closing we could not get covered then drove (2 hours AGAIN?????? why are all these people on the road this late at night and why do they keep crashing into each other and there are MORE construction delays???!!) home again
but we are going to forge ahead nontheless an attempt to ride the rides maybe the forecast will keep the crowds away
Jennifer my niece and nephew who live in Alberta went to French immersion schools they spoke only French in school and took one lesson in English a day.... here they don;t start teaching the kids a foreign language untilthey are 12 or 13
It is so foolish - younger children can so much more easily absorb different languages
I was just with a young couple who have toddlers --they all spoke to me in English but the wife spoke to the children in Chinese while the father spoke to them in French - what an advantage those kids will have growing up!!!
-
TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have missed you !! How is your Mom?
well I had better get me to bed if I am to be up bright and early to drive to new Jersey
it will probably take less time than it did to drive to Brooklyn!!
well it is officially 9/10/11 here so top o' the morning to ya!
-
I'll have to finish my viewing on the 'morrow. I forgot how long the movie I'm watching is and I'm just too tired to continue. Funnily, I'd started to watch The Caine Mutiny at around six and immediately fell asleep for almost an hour - so I'll start that over soon.
-
I've loved INCHWORM since I saw the movie.
The Inchworm had his own movie?
You forgot to wink ;)
You think I wasn't being serious? ;)
DR Jennifer thanks for the update on BB. I agree on wanting Rachael to win and to take Adam.
