Well, you've read the notes, the notes were unshaven, and now it is time for you to post until the hairless cows come home - just picture THAT and see if it doesn't make you want to vomit on the ground.
-
And the word of the day is: INTUIT!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I had to read the following post twice because it read one way while meaning another. I was tired, it was late abd I gave myself a good laugh for it.
Vixmom Said:
Mikey I am glad to hear the Hyundai warranty covered your repairs I hope you have similar good news for your friend
I originally read it as you hoped that Mikey's friend had a Hyundai warranty.
-
And forgot to wish
Good Morning To All
Health and Personal and Travel or any other kind of vibes needed.
-
As for the TOD
Leiber and Stoller, as well as Mann and Weil, and Carole King
I had to go to by ITunes because I had know idea what songs I have by these artists
Mann/Weill
Somewhere Out There (One of my favorites of any song)
Here You Come Again (Dolly Parton)
Make Your Own Kind Of Music
Carol King (Gerry Goffin)
Up On The Roof
The Loco-motion
Point Of No Return
One FIne Day
Breaking Up Is Hard To DO
It's Too Late
A Natural Woman
You've Got A Friend (My Favorite)
Leiber/Stoller
I (Who Have Nothing)
On Broadway
Love Potion #9
Is That All There Is?
Fools Fall In Love
-
BK:
Mann/Weill had a song on The Partridge Family. Was it on one of your episodes that you did?
Looking Through The Eyes Of Love (Different song than the Theme From Ice Castles)
PS I think the Sherman Bros wrote a song with the same title that was cut from Mary Poppins (Movie)
-
Had to scape frost off the car this morning, so winter is fast approaching. Went to the mall - or one of them I should say - I have three large malls, each within 20 minutes drive. Shoppers are out in force, buying Christmas goods already.
-
Good morning, all.
-
TOD: I'll have to think of additions to Michael S's fine list. As for Ms. King, anything on Tapestry. OK, I grew up in the 70s, what can I say?

Quote from: Jane on October 19, 2011,
What is the interesting food?
DR Jane: For one thing, it (my local Lithuanian supermarket) has a huge range of different types of sausages and an equally large range of different types of dumplings. British and (I think) American dumplings are usually just comprised of dough but Lithuania, along with other Central and Eastern European countries have all kinds of meat filled dumplings. They vary iin quality a lot and I can't say I always enjoy them. I had some chicken filled dumplings in Warsaw recently which gave me a stomach upset.

Donnerstag afternoon greetings from the lovely Rhine River! We are on a short cruise from Mainz to Rudesheim, where we will take an excursion by mini-train for a walking tour and wine tasting. Our trip to Heidelberg this morning was not so lovely. We rode for more than an hour on a bus to the high-up castle ruin where the weather turned nasty - hail and everything. We rode the funicular down to the city center and things improved. Richard and I eventually left the guided tour and ducked into a coffee shop for a warm beverage and, most importantly, a restroom. I can see why people like Keith love Heidelberg and I'd love to return under better conditions.
-
Good morning, all! I slept late because I wanted to and could. I've receivedno summons to Encores! from Joshie, so I am guessing that all is under control for tomorrow's rehearsal. I have a couple of neighborhood errands to run, including a walk to 72nd Street to pick up my new glasses, a few bills to pay, and an barber appointment to make for tomorrow before the Encores! band rehearsal.
I need to type up my bar count for THE RED MILL and finish all of the other prep work on getting the score ready to go. Once that's finished, I can begin on ROBERTA. The recording dates for next year are set, so all we have to do now is see if some performers we want can freeze thedates for principal roles.
-
OK, while the wi-fi is cooperating...
Here's proof that I really am in Europe - last Thursday in Paris:
-
At the end of our walking tour in Bamberg on Monday, they treated us to the local specialty - smoke beer. Think beer with a bacon aftertaste:
-
During our free time in Rothenberg, Richard and I went to Diller Schneeballentraume for coffee/tea and a mandelballen strips of dough, fried, and covered in chocolate and almonds:
-
Wednesday the cruise company and travel agengy surprised us with an anniversary cake that we shared with our dinner companions - couples from the Purdue University and Michigan State University Alumni Associations:
-
DR John G - I'm sorry to read that you've lost your friend Joan. Condolences to all who love her.
-
I think we're docking in Rudesheim - bye for now!
-
DR Ginny; wonderful photos!
-
I believe I may have mentioned this a long time ago as a quasi-trivia question, but there is a fascinating fact about Lieber/Stoller and Mann/Weil and one of the songs already mentioned above, about which I knew nothing until I had to research said song for a choral concert I was conducting.
-
Do tell.
-
Great photos from DR GINNY and from DR JANE yesterday!
-
TOD:
Mann/Weil - the songs from WILD IN THE STREETS
Leiber/Stoller - Loving You, On Broadway
Carole King - It's Too Late

For those wondering about my comment re: Leiber/Stoller/Mann/Weil above, here's an overview (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Broadway_(song))
Part of the original version is available here (http://www.shazam.com/music/web/track?id=10033215). (I think the whole thing used to be on YouTube, but I can't find it right now).

DR Ginny, those treats look so good. I am hungry now (didn't eat yet)!
-
I, on the other hand, am up. Didn't quite get eight hours due to brain working overtime, but I have made the decision about book number twelve - it was an inevitable decision, I suppose, but it's made and I scribbled down my first notes this morning whilst in bed before arising.
-
If I'm to jog, I will be out the door at ten.

Greetings from Eppley airfield in Omaha. They have free wifi here if you watch a 20 second ad, ok, I can do that, lol

The church alarm went off at 6:20 a.m. I was the last person there last night.
However, the police officers who checked said all the doors were secure. So we have no idea why the alarm went off.
Wasn't that an exciting story?

What a nice story, except the losing touch part. Maybe she's on Facebook under a nickname or something.

Safe travels, Cilliaz.

Variety has reported that Nora Ephron is adapting LOST IN AUSTEN as a feature film. I think I'm not the only fan of that miniseries here, IIRC.

Unfortunately, that happens at my church so often we now have to pay every time the police have to show up.

It's a beautiful day here. I could still see lots of evidence of this summer's flood when I drove down. It does look like they've filled in the empty spaces under the railroad track where the dirt washed away and the tracks were suspended in mid air. Not sure I'd want to go on those tracks any time soon

You are correct, sir. I can imagine her trimming it and making it flabbier at the same time.

Thanks DR Laura

I have no idea why she is worried about the animals expecting gifts, but it really made me laugh
-
On the other hand, I am just sick about all the exotic animals they killed in Ohio. I get that you can't have Bengal tigers walking the streets at night, but it seems like they could have done something besides just shooting to kill
-
There are a lot of people in the airport for a weekday in Omaha in October. I still have an hour before we board, so I'll probably just hang out here in the food court, but it may actually take me 5 minutes to get through security!
-
When I checked in, someone had left a boarding pass in the machine by the counter. I told the person working there who said "Oh, just leave it, we'll get it later". Wouldn't you think they'd want to have the boarding pass at the counter?
-
My dad is starting to think that it's too "pricey" to go to Joplin for Thanksgiving. He can afford this trip, so I told him I was invited and I was going and Mom said she wanted to go, so he could have Thanksgiving with my brother and stay with the cat or he could go with us. He's coming with us.
-
Re the animals: If they had escaped from a zoo, I think they'd have had the proper conditions and equipment to tranquilize them. Sadly, this wasn't the case.
-
John, I am the first one called when the alarm goes off. Usually I can get there and check it out. This time I forgot my phone at home, so the police were dispatched. The officers said that it is very rare that they are dispatched to my church, so I don't think we will be billed. Unless whatever is wrong with the security system keeps malfunctioning.
This was the preschool playground door -- and I remember checking that one last night.

I know, it just makes me sad

I wonder if Sheriff Joe recalls testifying, or if he's forgotten that already.

Think I'll wander to the gate. See you in Chicago!

I've run a few errands, including picking up my new pair of glasses. I'm not sure how I like them, and these newfangled "progressive lenses" will take some getting used to.
Joshie called and asked me to come in to Encores!, but I'm stuck here waiting on Mr Ron Raines to call.

Hello from 8th Avenue. Where did I leave off? Yesterday, Paul and I went to see Spiderman. All I can say is: I can say I've seen it. I guess the flying parts were fun, but I can't say the same for the songs or much of the rest of it. I will say that Patrick Page made the most of his role as the Green Goblin.
-
Well, my fears of two of four of winning the Book of Mormon lottery were not realized! No one won!
Paul and I went to see Follies, as planned. We really liked it. I have to say I thought Elaine Page wasn't as angry singing "I'm Still Here" this time and I enjoyed it more. The rest of the cast was mostly great.
This morning we went to Ground Zero, not knowing you need to have a ticket to go up close. The first available time was 5:30 pm. , so we just walked around the area and went into the World Financial Center (I think) for a view.
-
I'm happy to say that yahoo is now working again and I can get my email. And I ended up buying a new phone charger for $30 at one of those shady-looking electronics stores. I was desperate! Radio Shack said they haven't carried that model in over 2 years. I know it's time for a new phone. I'm still deciding which one!
-
Kevin, I would highly recommend going with the cheap phone. That way if you happen to fall into your neighbor's turtle pond ...

I will soon be interviewing Francis Ford Coppola's archivist. You still have time to submit your questions. :)

Sad to report that Barbara Kent, leading lady in silent films and early talkies, passed away Oct. 13 at age 103 in Palm Desert, Ca. She began her film career in 1926 and left films in 1935 shortly after she married.

We had another challenging excursion this afternoon and were very glad to be back to the warmth of our boat. We were taken to Rudesheim's town square on charming little trains and walked around a bit. Then we proceeded to the cable car station (like a ski lift) to go up to the Niederwalddenkmal monument, which is 250 meters above the Rhine River. As soon as the cable car started up, you guessed it, the rain and hail started. The views were spectacular, though, and worth the trip. Back at street level, we walked around some more and then went to one of the local wineries for a tasting. Everybody was pretty tired by then, so we walked back to the boat to have dinner and crash.
-
Thanks for all the nice comments about my photos!

Strange story. She went in for jaw surgery and never came out of the anesthesia. She was on life support for days after, but no recovery.

Did the four-mile jog, then went right over to Soul Dog and had the Slaw Dog, a side of mac and cheese, and some sweet potato fries. Verdict: VERY disappointing. The chili on the slaw dog had some seasoning that was very off-putting to me - the slaw was quite good, but the dog itself was a little yucky tasting, too. Add to that that there was no way to actually pick it up and eat it, and I really don't like using a knife and fork on a hot dog, which is exactly what I had to do. It wasn't all that big, so I did finish it, but left a considerable bit of the chili behind. The mac and chees was a side dish and not that much to eat, but again, it had whole chunks of garlic in it and it just killed the flavor of the actual pasta and cheese - I only finished about half of that. The clear winner was the sweet potato fries, which were excellent. I ate about two-thirds of them. I still feel kind of gross from the hot dog, though. Still, calorically, not too bad - under 1000 calories, so, with the jog, I'm more than all right. From now on, Soul Dog is going to be exclusively fried chicken for me.

We had a nice JOLT from Ma Nature this afternoon. About half an hour ago we experienced a 3.9 earthquake. What I felt, in my 6th floor office, was two successive upthrusts. Very unsettling, of course. My stomach did a flip-flop.
No damage, no mess. No muss, no fuss. Just shattered nerves and/or queasy stomachs.
-
Chatted with a nice lady at the Motion Picture Country Home/Fund and, unfortunately, my friend Jewell is not eligible for their help. She had worked the required 20 years in Film/Television, but didn't make enough money during too many of those years, percentage wise (or something) to qualify.
But the gal is sending me some information on resources in the Valley Village/North Hollywood area and I have located a senior citizen apartment complex in Los Angeles, on W 7th, which has two studios coming up. One this month and one next month. It seems to be in a nice area, right near Good Samaritan Hospital. The rent is only $678 a month...still a bit spendy for her, but much better then her current $1000.00 a month....and if she can get her doctor to send a letter saying that her dog is a companion animal, the apartment will let her have him there (otherwise he is over the 25 lb limit).
-
In the meantime my friend Jerry (also friend to DR Edisaurus) will help her on Saturday to fetch some much needed medicine for her dog, unless he can find someone to do it earlier then that.

Greetings from Chicago! The flight was ok, but was about 1/2 in the clouds where you look out the window and see nothing but white. I find that strangely comforting and disconcerting at the same time....if that's possible
-
I opted for the cab. It was raining when I got here and I wasn't sure how to get from the train to the hotel. We just beat rush hour, but it was an expensive ride. My cabbie was a fascinating man who is originally from Nigeria, but has been in the US 25 years. He used to own a little specialty book store with African American books and gifts but the big stores and the internet put him out of business. We had a lively discussion about Africa, the days news etc. It was most pleasant as we agreed on pretty much everything. It was well worth the price to meet such an interesting man
-
The most fun was he was telling me his opinion and I really did agree, so he wasn't just trying to be pleasant to his fare.
-
I have settled in to the hotel, found out where to catch the bus in the morning to get to my bus tour and registered for the conference. It's been so long since I came to one of these and this one isn't connected to a board meeting, so I literally know about 3 people here including staff. I'll know a few more at the reception because some of my Chicago lawyer friends are co-sponsors. It starts in about 20 minutes. Open bar and lots of food. Not sure if I'll call that dinner. I'm dressing up enough to go out anywhere so if we head somewhere else for dinner I'm good to go

Better sign off for now! OH DR LAURA, the hotel carpet is really hideous. I took a photo for you and will post later

DR Ron I have a friend who had an earthquake drill this morning & was required to go under her desk. She said when the real quake happened no one went under their desks. What is the recommended procedure in your office?
-
I, for one, am THRILLED that Cillaliz saw something hidious and though of me.
-
Good Evening!
Well... It turns out I'll be seeing RED at The Goodman in about 20 minutes. :)
-
And that's much different than "seeing red".
-
DR John G - Sorry to hear about your friend, Joan.
-
I, for one, am THRILLED that Cillaliz saw something hidious and though of me.
LOL!
-
And I guess I should walk across the street to the theater - I'm camping out in an Argo Tea. Lots of A/C outlets and free WiFi.
-
Welcome to Chicago, DR Cillaliz! See you tomorrow!
-
I'm off to the theater for the first time with an audience (final dress rehearsal)! Fortunately, Marko will be there with me (and hopefully, with a script for me) to run the sound. It'll be what it'll be. ;)
Be back later!
-
OK, while the wi-fi is cooperating...
Here's proof that I really am in Europe - last Thursday in Paris:
Yeah, right! Green screen.
-
John G., I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Joan. My deepest sympathies to all of her friends and family.

With all of the talk yesterday about deviled eggs; I was wondering if anyone here had tried those things called Eggies? Those are the little plastic cups that cook up hard-boiled eggs without having to crack the shells. Considering how badly I shell eggs, I am thinking of trying them.
-
The church alarm went off at 6:20 a.m. I was the last person there last night.
However, the police officers who checked said all the doors were secure. So we have no idea why the alarm went off.
Wasn't that an exciting story?
It wasn't one of your deviled eggs, was it?
-
I've got to ask Skip about that deviled eggs recipe.

How pathetic are we? department: Betsy and I are back from the special invite grand reopening of a remodeled Fred Meyer store. They had gift bags, wine, cupcakes, canapes, and the store looks mah-velous. And the really funny thing is, there were hundreds of other losers there celebrating right along with us. :)
-
I was the very first person to use the U-Scan self checkout at the store. I have blazed a trail for all other shoppers who refuse to wait in a traditional checkout line.
-
Kevin, I would highly recommend going with the cheap phone. That way if you happen to fall into your neighbor's turtle pond ...
What if his neighbor doesn't have a turtle pond?

Couldn't she claim he was a service dog?

You can't just claim that. I'm not even sure they should accept a note from the doctor for a companion dog.

Hurray! My Birding Buddy arrives in 10 minutes! She migrates here every winter and stays until it gets hot. I am picking her up at the airport. Jane -- in August she fell off a ladder and broke her shoulder. So she's had a tough day today, I'm sure.

A few days ago, I was lamenting the fact that I probably wasn't going to make it to Broadway (except the one in Tacoma), unless they might need an actor to play FDR in the next revival of ANNIE.
Then I got a phone call from a friend of mine who had received a Playbill from the Broadway cast of THE ADDAMS FAMILY. And sure enough, I am currently the understudy for Lurch in the production, after making my Broadway debut in the revival of A CHORUS LINE. Of course, they did manage to misspell my last name, but the photos turned out well.
-
You photograph well, TCB. My face always inflates when the picture snaps.

The funny thing is that they say they aren't sold in stores, but my Safeway Store has them in stock.

In Washington (I have been told) that they can not even ask for proof that is a service dog, but they must accept the person's word.

I hope she didn't require surgery or artificial body parts. My sympathy to her. I'm sure the warm weather will help once she gets over the traveling.

If we lived in Washington Sherlock would become a service dog. Echo really was one because she picked up things for me. This big boy is really rather useless.

Craig just sent me a text message from his new cell phone by dictating the message. 8) I want his phone!
-
He then sent us an email using the dictation. I think he LOVES his new phone. I just remembered I can't get it cuz it won't fit in my pockets.
-
I will soon be interviewing Francis Ford Coppola's archivist. You still have time to submit your questions. :)
does FFC remember going to Hofstra with my dad?

Since you are such a dear friend of mine, Tom, I am going to print out this picture and look at it all the time (well except for when Vixdad is looking )

We had an earthquake in San Antonio this morning. Something like a 4.6 on the scale. I felt nothing. We did nothing at work. But we did run a recipe for Earthquake Cake to commemorate the event:

-
My, TCB, but you take a good photo.
-
Again, thank you all for the wishes of sympathy. Just shows how we never know what lies in store for us and when.
As someone else said, "The delivery boy's on Wall Street/And the usherette's a rock star." Though the delivery boy is probably part of Occupy Wall Street and, well, are there any rock stars anymore? But you know what I mean.

For Laura
-
Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio carved their initials in the bar at The Cape Cod at the Drake
-
That's not a joke, btw
-
My dinner Red Grouper with whtie bean , clam and squid ragout, enoki mushroom and Chorizo oil
-
It was fabulous.
-
I went to the reception. I think I knew 4 or 5 people. The organization has changed so much since I was active and I really have no interest in getting back into it. I'm just not in the same mind set that they are. I used to be but I'm really more into my immigration now, boy is that clear to me now.
-
So I'll play tomorrow and will go to the seminar on Saturday.
-
I also thought of DR Elmore as I found my room. You go down the hall and turn at the sign marked "Fire Escape" lol.
-
those clams looked great, Cillaliz. There was something else on the plate, but I couldn't get past the clams. Damn, it's too late tonight to go get some.
-
There are also greens, I'm not sure what they were but they tasted really good.
-
LOL there WERE squid on the plate too, but I ate them before I took the photo
-
JHVW said he worked on house 1 in the Extreme Makeover 7 houses in 7 days and worked at the command center, so he may be in some of the filming done for the show. I think it airs next week
-
It's their 200th episode
-
One more.
-
Page seven!
-
Update....found this on the extreme makeover Joplin facebook page
The episode is scheduled to be the 200th for the program, and is tentatively scheduled to air Jan. 20 2012!!!!!!!! (:
-
That is a FABULOUS carpet, Cillaliz. Great find.
Although I don't suppose you so much found it as it just jumped out at you.
-
I said "OMG I have to take a photo of this!!"
-
Time for sleep. I have to get up early and take a bus to get on the bus for my tour, lol.
-
Night, all.
-
good night sweet dreams

Finished with my viewing and am starting to listen to parts of the new master - it's not quite finished yet, and some of what I've heard thus far isn't to my liking, so we have some work to do. This is a very problematic thing - the LP masters are not great (therefore the LP and its two CD incarnations were equally not great) - we're trying to at least give them some oomph and depth and smoothness that they've never had. The stuff taken from the Blu-ray doesn't sound as good as I hoped it would. So, trying to figure out exactly why that is.
-
Good Evening!
WHEW!
-
Red at The Goodman Theatre was quite wonderful - even if I had to endure two of the most annoying fellow audience members I've ever had the displeasure of sitting next to. A great play, a great cast, and great production. The actor portraying Mark Rothko is Edward Gero; he's been a staple of the D.C. theatre scene for as long as I can remember. -And this production was co-produced with Arena Stage, and it will be traveling to DC later in the season.
-
So...
After eating an enormous breakfast at Ann Sather - Oh, those Cinnamon Buns! - I met up with my friends, Cory and Lisa, and checked out their new condo. Very nice.
-
Then I headed to the Art Institute of Chicago. Of course, since the AIC is a museum, Monkey came along too. And as Monkey and I were about to enter the AIC, I heard someone say, "Hello, Jose!" It turned out to be NPR's own Jeff Lunden - who also happens to be a composer. In fact, one of his songs appeared on bk's "Shakespeare On Broadway" album: "It's Love... I Think" from Another Midsummer Night. And his companion was one of the Grand Dames of the Chicago theatre scene, Linda Stephens. Linda starred in Jeff and Art Perlman's musical version of Arthur Kopit's play, Wings. -And I played keyboards when Signature Theatre did Wings back in 1996(?) - which is where I first met Jeff. And Linda is currently in Follies at Chicago Shakes.
Small world!
-
I had a great visit to the AIC. As always, I started off with the Seurat, and then just wandered around for a couple of hours, before....
-
It turns out that a young woman I met when I was doing a show at American University who ended up marrying the former casting director of Arena Stage is now living and working in Chicago. She noticed I was in Chicago via my Facebook posts, and sent me a message. I thought she and Eli were still living in Texas. Nope. She's clerking at a law office, and it turns out her office is just a few blocks from the AIC, so we met at Intelligentsia over some coffee and tea, and had a great catch up session.
She's also a new mother - her son is two and a half months old. In fact, her son was born right after she had taken the Bar Exam. Literally, the afternoon after she had finished the morning session. She even ended up garnering some local press from that!
-
Since my friend, David, is still sick, I cancelled my reservation for dinner at The Publican, and decided on a whim to see what was available at HotTix, which is Chicago's version of TKTS. I noticed that Red was listed, however, it turned out I got there too late to get them at the HotTix kiosk. The clerk suggested I go to The Goodman to see if they had any "MezzTix" available, which is their day-of 1/2-price program. Well, they did! I ended up with a great seat: mezzanine, front row, right in the center. Perfect! -Except for the two gentlemen(?) next to me. But I'm not going to dwell on them just yet. ;)
-
So, hopefully, David will be all better tomorrow so that he can see Follies with me. I'm hoping to check out some places in Lincoln Park in the morning before my matinee concert of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra - Berg, Violin Concerto and Mahler 4! Then some chill time before Follies.
-
DR Ginny - Thanks for posting those pics! :)
-
DR Laura - I hope you don't get another early morning phone call about the church's alarm.
-
And the word of the day is: INTUIT!
And The Song Of The Day Is: PRETTY LITTLE PICTURE
(Question: PRETTY seems to be one Of Mr. Stephen Sondheim's Favorite Words-
Agree? Any Other Favorite Sondheim Words?)
Yes, "pretty" is one of his favorite words.
As is "f*ck".
::)

Desk is assembled. Glass top is COLD!
Well put some pants on!
No--it says specifically NOT to set heavy and/or hot items on the glass. :)
Well... Anything to avoid unsightly smudges.
-
I will soon be interviewing Francis Ford Coppola's archivist. You still have time to submit your questions. :)
Can you get free bottles of Rubicon, my favorite of FFC's wines? And one I can't afford.
OK, well, it's a question.
Um... I was actually given two free bottles on Rubicon. They were part of some vineyard promo the restaurant was doing. And I still have them. So... :)
-
I opted for the cab. It was well worth the price to meet such an interesting man
DR Cillaliz - Could you have opted to take the Blue Line in from O'Hare, and then take a cab from the CTA stop once you got downtown? Is the conference hotel not in or near The Loop?
-

The funny thing is is that I don't remember Tommy looking that good when he started with A Chorus Line. However, I guess all that "A-5-6-7-8!" did a body good. ;)
-
You photograph well, TCB. My face always inflates when the picture snaps.
I'd LOL, but I don't want to wake up David.
-
He then sent us an email using the dictation. I think he LOVES his new phone. I just remembered I can't get it cuz it won't fit in my pockets.
Ah! Did he get the newest iPhone 4S? If so, has he explained "Siri" to you?
-
And now...
I really should get some sleep.
Goodnight.
