Well, you've read the notes, the notes were found and had stuff about treasures, and now it is time for you to post until the found cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PROCELLOUS!
-
Welcome sixty GUESTS.

Day 3: I am sleepy. The cat is out of the bag. Even though I'm getting gracious doses of comfy sleep, I remain sleepy. Either the three-hour difference is having its way with my behind, or I'm fighting off something. As my sinuses are being very testy with me, I suspect the latter.
Day 2 was a bit of a continuation of Day 1 inasmuch as I was doing "Mr. Computer" duties. My aunt was not to blame as she was off on a trip to Athens GA with a friend to see said friend's granddaughter graduate from the University of Georgia.
No, it was a little bit me and a little bit the computer and a little bit my mom. I decided to add PC Speedy Recovery to my mom's computer. While she was out and about in the morning. I started the download. It didn't end for many hours. Some 13,416 problems were identified and corrected.
After that, my mother got a long-awaited confirmation e-mail about her end-of-January 2012 trip to Jerusalem. It was created in MS Works, had a .wps document tag, and her computer (MS XP software) wouldn't open it. Thus began my search of the internet for "fixes". I found one (MS-approved) that took its time downloading and discovered it would not work because it had nothing to "fix"....in other words, my mother's computer didn't have all its operating system's software downloaded. Then, my mother remembered that her "regular" computer guy had cleaned her computer and then reinstalled software but that he didn't reinstall stuff she never used (or didn't think she'd ever use). Until this e-mail arrived with a .wps document attached, she'd never needed to use the "Works Suite 2002" that was part of her core system. Happily, she had all the discs.
Sigh. I had thought my work was done after the PC Speedy Recovery finalized, but now I was into prime time (TV, that is) and missing a program I wanted to watch. I finished in one hour and had time to watch "Grimm" after all. My mom's .wps document opened, was printed and I thought all was fine.
"Grimm" started and more questions came about how to save photos (something we've been over "many" times before).
I have arrived at the conclusion that my being here is detrimental to my aunt's and my mom's willingness to experiment or think through these problems for themselves.
Double sigh.
Also during the course of yesterday, we drove to Edgefield to look at Christmas decorations and then visited lifelong friends for an hour and a half.
Overall, I got the gist of "Grimm", and I can use "On Demand" when I get home to catch up on what I did miss.
-
P.S. I did get the tree decorated Thursday evening. And yesterday morning, I put icicles on it. It looks splendid, will do the trick, and Christmas, it has arrived.
-
Congrats to DR GEORGE on 33,000 posts!

Hmmm.....I am getting extra lines in my posts.
That's strange.
My cursor doesn't go to the next line after I press it, not until I start typing again.
Strange.
JOHN GRIFFIN was also the name of The Invisible Man......very strange.....I think someone is looking for the invisibility formula DR JOHN G!!

And today is a work day. Oh well.

The paperback reprint edition of BASIL RATHBONE: His Life and His Films is now available on Amazon.
The hardback book was out-of-print for over 35 years and selling for as much as $100-$200 on-line.
Here is the book trailer for the paperback. Music is by my son, David.

It's colder in Manhattan today, only in the 30s but it's not bad. I was out at 7:30 to go to the store and I was fine.
We have a quiet day (Anthony is wrapping a present to mail to a friend) ahead of us. We got some DVDs from the library yesterday (one was The Lady Vanishes, how apropos) and we will watch something before dinner with friends at the Good Stuff Diner, the official dining establishment of the East Coast Branch of HHW.
I'm off to do other things.
Later, gaters.
-
Good morning, all! I slept in and now I'm stumbling about the ruins of the apartment, looking for all I need to take when I depart for Toyland shortly. I've got to scan the German lieder and send the pdf files to my friend Gary in Cologne for him to write the liner notes. Then at 2, I'm lunching with my friend Joseh Rubin, who's doing DEAREST ENEMY this summer in Akron, OH. I've got four pages of revised orchesta scores to hand him. I want to hear more about the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players holiday production of THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE as well, since Joseph will make his official NY debut conducting some of the performances.
I was up far too late last night, playing at the computer, deleting a ton of old emails and dead files to acquire a few gigs of memory. I suspect the chief offender is my iTunes, which is taking up 4.38 gigs, but that stays. So, I had to do a backup before I started trashing things. I may have lost too much of my sent email, but that's life.
I hsve not managed to acquire a holiday mood, and that's frustrating. I've got a pile of packages I need to put into the post, but I haven't got things together to acquire priority post labels from the post office. I guess that's the curse of being bitter and humorless. :-*

And the word of the day is: PROCELLOUS!
And The Song of The Day Is: STORMY WEATHER

Saturday morning greetings! It's day 2 of Lauren's graduation festivities - an open house at her Mom's where we will meet Rob and Mary Linda after they pick up Gram (my mother) on their way from Cincinnati. It will be a challenge to get her in the house because there are some steps, but Paramedic Rob and Quarterback Jim (Lauren's boyfriend) should be able to handle it.
Thank you to DRs FJL and JRand for nice comments made last night!
-
Had the big Saturday breakfast; egg, bacon, sausage, tomato and toast. Went out to do more Christmas shopping, during which I had a late lunch/early afternoon snack of a slice of lemon cake and coffee.
-
It took me a while to locate the Herbert lieder, but it's all ready to be scanned. I think that on my way to lunch with Joseph I will stop at the main post office branch and pick up a ton of priority mail labels, since I just learned that I have none.
So, off to Toyland.
-
It's Saturday. And a lovely day it is.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I have my first matinee of My Fair Lady in about three hours. WHEEEEEE!!!!!
-
Herbert Lieder - didn't he play the father on Dennis the Menace on TV?
-
Yes it is a slow day at World of Wisdom so far.
I have several movie posters.....I am trying to think of one I would like to own....hmmmmm.....
Oh and I forgot
The Man Who Knew Too Much (remake) on my AH list. Thanks to DR DRUXY for reminding me of it.
-
As I was saying...
I headed to the theatre yesterday afternoon for a bit of practicing as well as a costume fitting of sorts - I'll be wearing a tail jacket. I think. A little while after I arrived, the other pianist arrived, and we did a play-thru of the score. It's a lot of notes and a lot of info to retain, but, as I was reminded when I watched the show last night, there's plenty of time to "look ahead and review" during the book scenes. And since they made basically no cuts to the book scenes, well, I'll have the time. -This production runs a solid three hours (including the intermission).
-
During yesterday's graduation ceremony, the Miami president thanked the students for introducing him to Twitter. He then snapped a photo from the podium:

-
I would like to own an original Attack of the 50 Foot Woman poster, of course. I have a couple of reproductions (one from Miss Susan as I posted earlier this week, so it is extra special to me) and the repro inserts A & B, but an original poster, if one even exists now....would probably sell for $1000 or more.
And of course at the bottom of all of my posters....the line:
Property of the National Screen Service. Licensed for use in connection with the exhibition of the titled film, and must be returned immediately after...... or some such. Wonder what the NSS did with their paper.....I guess the posters followed the prints around the country.
-
There are lots of "old" friends and colleagues in the cast and crew, so I had a very warm welcome back last night too. And I know I'll have some great support in the wings and in the dressing rooms as I play the show this afternoon - and tonight. -And tomorrow afternoon.
-
Break a leg vibes to DR Jose as he joins the MFL company today!

Lerner & Loewe, you know. I hope we get photos of said tail coat.
-
Nice photo DR GINNY!
-
And now I need to scurry and hurry so that I can get to the theatre for a bit more practicing before today's matinee. Hopefully, I'll be able to check back in between show.
Laters...

I have too many posters as it is, though I do have some really stunning stuff with Frances. Those late 30s, early 40s posters are works of art.
-
Some Frances fan just emailed me in fact and wants to "gift" me with his collection of stills, posters, etc.
-
Nice photo DR GINNY!
I wondered if he'd tweet it during the ceremony, but it looks like he waited until a couple of hours after it was over.
-
I'm getting to be the age where I'm thinking of what's going to happen to all of this stuff. Watching Candy Spelling divest herself of her 70,000 sq. ft. of crap (technical term) on her HGTV special made it seem more real to me, somehow. :)
-
I found Candy Spelling's taste in interior design mortifying. But she actually seemed like a rather nice, non-stuck up sort of woman.
-
When Tori arrived and called her "Mommy," it was a bit of an "eeww" moment. ;)
-
Today we deliver the food and gifts to the needy family. Zach is attending a friend's Bar Mitzvah and so is excused, but Gabe must come, and he's moaning about it, teenager that he is.
-
Good Morning!

Herbert Lieder - didn't he play the father on Dennis the Menace on TV?
He has a conductor son, Foleau D. Lieder.
-
BK, what does the note from Hitch to Wilder say?
-
The original title for CLASSICAL BARBRA was going to be FOLLOW THE LIEDER. No joke.
-
Greetings from Toyland! I got here to find our internet was out, so I spent 30 minutes restarting, unplugging, rebooting, unplugging, restarting, and rebooting. We're back!
-
Good morning. I spent some time doing yard work at the church, and now my back hurts.
-
I'm up, barely - didn't get to sleep until three - MUST STOP THAT.
-
Note from Hitch to Wilder: "Dear Sir: I had the very great pleasure of seeing a lovely picture the other night, and would like to say that the two most important words after 'Double Indemnity' are 'Billy Wilder.'
It is a play on the famous ad by Selznick saying the four most important words in motion picture history were Gone With The Wind.
-
If anyone here has missed any Kritzerland releases, I have a handful of copies of almost (but not all) of everything we've released. You can view the complete releases, even sold out titles by clicking on the link just above where the current titles are listed on the home page. Just drop me a line and I'll let you know if the title is available.
-
I was browsing eBay last night and was shocked to see how much some of our stuff is going for - signed Chitty went for seventy or eighty bucks last week.
-
From DR Jahn G,
I did have some good news today, though. Dad got the results of his CAT scan and there was no sign of cancer. The doctor must have gotten it all when she removed that polyp.
FANTASTIC!!!
-
From Bruce,
I would no sooner e-mail Miss Gordon's husband than e-mail the owner of a certain record label
Now that you have mentioned this....... I only plan to send a card with a note to her mother. If someone were to write to her house I expect the children will appreciate it.
I've been told Susan's grave site is at the top of a hill overlooking flowers and lovely scenery, that it is beautiful.
-
TOD:
I think I can nail down my favourite three of both, in order.
Wilder:
Double Indemnity
Sunset Boulevard

And now I need to scurry and hurry so that I can get to the theatre for a bit more practicing before today's matinee.
Laters...
Have a good show!!

I think I shall drag myself to the gym. I hope once I begin working out I will find some energy & the endorphins will make me feel better.
-
DR Jane, I just dragged myself to the basement for a 30-minute walk. I've gotten very lazy amidst all the holiday prep and graduation festivities and I have to get back into a daily routine.
-
Note from Hitch to Wilder: "Dear Sir: I had the very great pleasure of seeing a lovely picture the other night, and would like to say that the two most important words after 'Double Indemnity' are 'Billy Wilder.'
It is a play on the famous ad by Selznick saying the four most important words in motion picture history were Gone With The Wind.
Actually, I had this a bit wrong and the story is much more fun. Selznick took a huge number of ads in the trade magazines trumpeting Since You Went Away as the four most important words in motion picture history since Gone With The Wind. Apparently these ads irked Billy Wilder, who then took an ad just like Selznick's that said "Double Indemnity are the two most important words since Capital Gains." Selznick was not amused but Hitchcock was, hence the note.
-
That's all detailed in one of the Billy Wilder bios. So, it's an important little note from one brilliant director to another, both of whom had wicked senses of humor. It's being framed now.
-
Back from various and sundried errands and putting gas in the motor car.
-
We delivered food and gifts to the needy family. Though Gabe wouldn't admit it outright, we think him seeing the near hovel-like living conditions of these people had an impact on his pampered little worldview. :)
-
Good for you, JMK.
-
It is getting cloudy and dark again. More rain?
-
DR Jane, I just dragged myself to the basement for a 30-minute walk. I've gotten very lazy amidst all the holiday prep and graduation festivities and I have to get back into a daily routine.
Good for you.
Even though I was dragging, still am, I found more energy than I expected & had a good work out.
-
Sherlock just gave me a big kiss which covered my entire ear.

LOL.

Break a Leg again, DR Jose!

This is deranged. Judy and Liza go shopping for groceries:

I've been to a good Chinese lunch on Seventh Avenue and 37th Street, arrrived home, gone out to the market, and returned. There seems to be a convention of immature post collegiate horse's asses hanging out at the liquor store on 79th and Broadway, which made it difficult to browse, think, or be civil. I can only hope they're bridge and tunnel fools and not new neighbors. Walking Broadway was an ordeal: too much crowd and way too many gapers amongst them.
I think I can get a spot of work accomplished on ROBERTA, and then I'll watch TUNA CHRISTMAS. A good laugh is needed for the stupidity of others and myself.
-
We're meeting friends for dinner in about a half hour.
Tomorrow we are going to see Macy's and Lord and Taylor's windows with them. We are going early to avoid crowds.
Then we will settle in for a day of watching DVDs (and some dinner also).

TOD:
Hitchcock:
Strangers on a Train
The 39 Steps
To Catch a Thief
Wilder:
Double Indemnity
The script for "Ninotchka"

The Apartment
Would love to have a poster from "The Band Wagon," the Japanese version of "Shall We Dance" and "Dumbo."

Craig was headed to the golf range when Keith put him to work catching the branches of the tree Keith is cutting off of the roof. Sherlock is barking & Yogi is making whimpering noises that sound more like a loud bird. ;D
It always makes me nervous when Keith works on the roof. I would be doing laundry except I want to be able to hear him until he is safely off of it.
-
The dogs are quiet, I'm doing laundry & DS Craig is off to hit golf balls. :)

TOD:
Hitch -- The Lady Vanishes, Suspicion, North by Northwest, The Trouble With Harry
Wilder -- Some Like it Hot, The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, Sunset Boulevard

Lunch today was at Gary's....in an old Hardee's franchise building. We had hamburgers, fries and "fried okra." The huge surprise was that the fried okra was sensational. I ate with my mother, my aunt and their friend, Betty (director of the funeral home in town).
Yesterday's lunch was at The Triangle...I had catfish, grits, green beens and Waldorf Salad. It was very good.
I'm loving the rustic life.
My mom is frying some chops which we'll eat tonight with collards, pinto beans and cornbread.
-
We have not yet done our annual trek to Spartanburg to place flowers on the graves of my great grandparents and grandparents, nor have we planned our annual trek to Greenville where we shop.
My aunt committed to a graduation (mentioned earlier) so we're looking at next week.
-
Some Frances fan just emailed me in fact and wants to "gift" me with his collection of stills, posters, etc.
I can take the duplicates.

Herbert Lieder - didn't he play the father on Dennis the Menace on TV?
He has a conductor son, Foleau D. Lieder.
On the Baltimore & Ohio?
-
good news about your father DR JOHN G.
-
DR Ron I'll miss your stories while I'm away.
-
Craig must be home as Yogi is barking.
-
We are having live music at our house tonight. But hopefully it won't go on for TOO long.
-
Craig must be home as Yogi is barking.
LOL......how are Yogi and Sherlock doing?
-
Uneventful day, or at least a day of events I'd rather forget. :)
-
HAPPY 50000 TO JRAND!!!!!!!!!!
-
Elmore, I hope you're feeling jovial by Christmas!!!!

Page 4 might put me in a better mood.

It'll take some work.

But almost there.

We are back from Lauren's graduation party, which was very nice. Rob and Mary Linda picked up my Mom and, by the time Richard and I got to the party, she was in the house drinking Scotch and Rob was getting her a plate of food. She enjoyed being there and it meant a lot to Lauren and her Mom, because my Mom is the only grandparent left in our family.
-
Sounds like a delightful day, Ginny!
-
Craig must be home as Yogi is barking.
LOL......how are Yogi and Sherlock doing?
They are both just fine thank you.

Here's our happy girl with last night's cake. Today's cake was a football field, but by the time we got there one end zone and about 30 yards were gone.

BEautiful cake!
Thanks DR FJL.....I didn't notice!!!
Now it's 50,000 + 1!!!!

Pretty niece & nice cake. I would like to have seen a photo of the BIG cake.

I went to see THE ARTIST the other night. I walked out half way through it. I couldn't hear a single word anyone was saying.

Thank You for all the Well Wishes and Broken Leg Vibes!

*And in a sort of full circle moment, it turns out that the other pianist on stage with me is Gary Green. He played for MASTER CLASS on Broadway when Patti LuPone took over.
-
Back from a fun belated birthday dinner at Casa Vega. I always feel VERY full after eating there, but the actual calorie count isn't terrible and I did do the four-mile jog today.
-
And might I just add: PAGE FOUR???

DR Jane, there were some photos taken and I suspect they'll turn up on Facebook in the next few days. Today's cake wasn't on the same scale as an actual football field - LOL!
-
well it took 12 hours but the tree has been brought in , set up, decorated and all the boxes put back in the attic
-
there will eb a Chirstmas after all
-
Um, we'd better get off this damn page pronto - trust me on this.
-
Just got an e-mail from Dave Grusin asking if he could get some copies of Divorce, American Style - he asked if we were still in business! I directed him to the website, and told him that in case he wasn't aware, we've done three Grusin titles this year.
-
This is more than a little nauseating.
-
I'm gonna say we'd better have a frenzy or three before midnight.
-
JR, we went to a party tonight at one of the Comedy Moms' houses and she had a gigantic Attack of the 50 Foot Woman poster in her game room. When I mentioned Allison, she said, "Didn't you notice? The poster is of me!" and she went on to show me she had pasted her face there and replaced all the other people with a bunch of producers she had worked with when she was a script supervisor in L.A. :)
-
Good Evening!
My original plan for today was to get up around 9:00am, have breakfast, then head to the theatre around 10:30am to get another hour or so of practice in, take a break for a leisurely lunch, then head back to the theatre for the 2:00pm matinee. Well...
When I woke up the first time, it was already 9:30am. When I woke up the second time it was 10:45am. I decided just to take my time getting ready, and I ended up at the theatre around 12:30pm. I ran a few things with Gary, the other pianist, before the matinee, and then...
Both shows went very well today. There are still a couple of passages I'm simplifying out of "fear", but, for the most part, I'm already feeling comfortable in regards to the flow of the show.
And I'm glad I got a full night's sleep last night rather than forcing myself to wake up "early".
-
However...
Tomorrow, I am hoping to get up a bit earlier so that I can head to the Sidewalk Cafe for brunch to see my favorite waitress, Edwina. Hopefully, she'll be there. I also want to pick up some sort of Thank You gift for the cast and crew of MFL.
-
Jose, darling, don't forget to send me the music book soon.

Jose, darling, don't forget to send me the music book soon.

DR Ron Pulliam - How was that "fried okra" fried? Breaded and deep-fried? Or pan/skillet fried?
-
Jose, darling, don't forget to send me the music book soon.
bk, old chum, it's all set to go out in the mail on Monday.
Jose, honey, thanks much!
-
I had one beef taco, two cheese enchiladas, and we had some chili con queso for the table - I ate very little of it, but boy was it faboo.
-
I've got Simenon fever.
-
Two new Kritzerland releases announced here first at midnight.
-
New episode of Outside The Box going up after midnight.
-
Finished with my viewing this evening - had hoped to watch a couple of things, but only ended up watching one Maigret episode. Tomorrow, however, is another day and I will try to watch at least three things.
-
OH!!!!!
And I found out today that my beloved Stella Dikos has come out of retirement and re-opened(?) her restaurant. Again! For the third time!
www.StellasRichmond.com
I'm pretty sure I'll be dining there a couple of times over the next three weeks. :)
-
DR John G - Wonderful news about your father.
-
And...
Speaking of a good nght's sleep...
Goodnight.
