Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of pennies and loafers, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to figure out exactly how to wear penny loafers.
-
And the word of the day is: EXOTERIC!
-
Good morning, all. (First posting after BK!)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
I've been sleeping a bit later each day which is fine. I still get to the office early but I'm not up at 4:45am.
-
And the word of the day is: EXOTERIC!
And The Song Of The Day Is: POPULAR
-
TOD:
Velour pullovers. I liked how warm and comfy they were.
-
Posting on my train ride along the river. I can't read my commuting book because my Kindle ran out of juice.
That never happened with those paper books. Anyone remember them?
-
Good Morning. When I had penny loafers (well- I still have penny loafers but without the pennies) I used to use pennies from the year I was born. There aren't many pennies from that year in circulation anymore!
-
I haven't seen a penny from my birth year for a long time. And now pennies don't have the Lincoln Memorial on the back....or at least a 2011 penny I saw last week didn't - it had a shield on it like from the Warner Bros.
-
TOD:
Nice hats for gentlemen. And suits for dress up occasions - no matter what anyone tells you, there is NO SUCH THING as Dress Jeans.
And a cowboy hat is not proper attire for a wedding, funeral, or graduation.
-
Doctor appt. vibes for DR TCB.
-
Good morning, all! Another day fraught with ugliness has begun. I've spent the past 45 minutes drafting an email response to what has been a series of bitchery for the past month, and I'm ready to kick some butt. Someone needs to unbunch their panties. My email begins: I would like to speak to Dr Jekyll today; Miss Hyde's emails of the past weeks have been ones I neither wish to read again nor respond to.
So, last night I had a peculiar dream about two lesbian friends and an AIDS protest ay the old Different Light Book Shop. The friends seemd to be a composite of ladies I've known in Manhattan and two friends in my hometown, one of who died far too young.
Today, a bit of work on DEAREST ENEMY, then some tax work.
-
I went thru a penny loafer period in college and for a few years after. I never personally put pennies in them but female friends would grab my feet and insert them for me. I had no idea that penny loafers involved actual pennies.
-
DR Elmore, may your day turn out peaceful and productive. (That goes for all!)
-
When I wear my penny loafers (I have a pair in brown and a pair in black), I always get at least one comment on the fact that I have pennies in my penny loafers. I, in a Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory way, wouldn't think of having penny loafers without putting pennies in them.
-
TOD:
I miss the days when most people looked smart and routinely wore hats, suits and ties, even when just shopping. I especially dislike the ubiquitious jeans and T-shirt look.
-
Had oats for breafast and went for a coffee and croissant at Pret A Manger - they do the best croissants in town.
-
I love Pret a Manger. They have a branch two blocks from the office. I get coffee there. I much prefer it over the ubiquitous Starbucks.
-
DR Elmore, may your day turn out peaceful and productive. (That goes for all!)
Thanks, DR Dan(theMan)! On another task, I have to go into the McGlinnventory tomorrow to finish up things for the auction. This means that I will do laundry today. Oy!
-

Since I - no matter what I wear - look like I'm returning to, or coming from, my coal barge, I'm very happy with the jeans and T-shirt look.
-
BK, not to raise your ire, but you're incorrect about DOWNTON ABBEY. Both seasons are out on Blu-ray here (I caused a ruckus a few days ago by deigning to comment about the second season, you may recall), and both are indeed the UK unedited versions. PBS is indeed slightly editing the episodes for broadcast (which I also mentioned in a post--the cuts are minimal and odd, to say the least), but the BDs have the shows in original broadcast versions.
-
Downton Abbey Season 2 Blu-ray (http://www.amazon.com/Downton-Abbey-Season-Original-Blu-ray/dp/B005Q1W0ZQ/ref=sr_tr_sr_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1329402915&sr=1-2) (You'll note it clearly states original UK versions, and having watched them all, I can state definitively they're unedited.)
The thing that really bothered me about the US broadcast versions was the inept cut offs of music cues from the bizarre editing choices.
-
How does PennyO feel about being called a loafer?
-
I haven't seen a penny from my birth year for a long time. And now pennies don't have the Lincoln Memorial on the back....or at least a 2011 penny I saw last week didn't - it had a shield on it like from the Warner Bros.
That was Movie Money, JR. ;D
-
Oh dear - I gave it out in change.....well - sue me.
-
I received INVASION USA/TORMENTED and THE MOLLY MAGUIRES today......my INVASION plastic case was broken all to hell - but that's the USPS for you, I guess.
-
Resolution vibes to DR ELMORE.....if those don't work....reVolution vibes to DR ELMORE.
-
Oh, No! Department: This was in my email this morning:
Attn: Owner/Manager
Here with the Better Business Bureau informs you that we have been filed a complaint (ID 70580645) from your customer in regard to their dealership with you.
Please open the COMPLAINT REPORT below to obtain the details on this question and suggest us about your point of view as soon as possible.
We are looking forward to hearing from you.
Faithfully,

-
Before having received that, I was in Rapture seance.
-
Speaking of which, I still haven't gotten my shipping notice from the Rapture seance Amazon Marketplace seller, so I have a hunch my feeling about him was correct.
-
The laundry is in the dryers, the kitchen and bathrom floors are mopped, and I am ready to vacuum the living area.
Then I can get on with my plans for the day.
-
Whenever I hear the word loafer, I don't think of shoes but instead think of one of my high school math teachers whose favorite phrase to students was, "Hey, are you loafin'? Stop loafin', ya loafer."
-
Anthony will be doing the laundry tomorrow.
-
One has to wonder how Katherine Schulte managed to get a job with the BBB with such horrible writing skills.
-
They're going to broadcast Whitney's funeral? I wonder how soon I can buy the DVD?
-
Whenever I hear the word loafer, I don't think of shoes but instead think of one of my high school math teachers whose favorite phrase to students was, "Hey, are you loafin'? Stop loafin', ya loafer."
Hello, DR Allardyce. Welcome to HHW!
Tell us about yourself.
-
Yes, we must know all about you.
-
MR BK's notes on the INVASION USA/TORMENTED cd are most excellent.....some lovely comments about Miss Susan....and a beautiful photo of her and Lugene Saunders from the movie as well!
-
DR JMK which of your businesses is being investigated by the BBB?
-
Thursday morning greetings! We had a delightful time and a delicious dinner at Rob and Mary Linda's last night. We got home quite late and I had some AAUW work to do. Went to bed as soon as I finished that.
My book group is meeting at our house tonight, so I've baked an apple pie because an apple tree figures prominently in the story.
-
DR JMK which of your businesses is being investigated by the BBB?
It's so hard to keep track, I have so many, don't you know?
-
Hooray! The laundry is accomplished, and now I can gewt to work on "Cheerio," No. 4 in DEAREST ENEMY.
-
Finishing up my FORT APACHE review. I'm astounded that so many people (critics even) seem to think this is an anti-Indian film.
-
Hooray! The laundry is accomplished, and now I can gewt to work on "Cheerio," No. 4 in DEAREST ENEMY.
Is it a cereal composition?
-
While the oven was still warm, I also roasted a batch of almonds - Happy National Almond Day!
-
I have nothing to say on the topic of the day as I don't normally adhere to trends in clothing. But I have to agree with DR JRand, there is no such thing as Dress Jeans, However, in some cases, a cowboy hat is dress attire, but only where it's obvious. There are to many wannabe's out there that THINK a cowboy hat is dress attire. Like if you grow up in the Bay Area.
-
Posting on my train ride along the river. I can't read my commuting book because my Kindle ran out of juice.
That never happened with those paper books. Anyone remember them?
LOL. Yes, I did carry some of those when I traveled-just in case.
A friend said he took a spare battery for his Nook when he traveled. I didn't even know they sold spares.
I use to charge my phone at the airport. Slowly I began to compete with game users as well as other phone users. Now eBooks are in the mix I couldn't find a free outlet while waiting to leave for Tahiti. In Tahiti I didn't have an adapter to use at the airport, not that I noticed any outlets.

Hello, DR Allardyce. Welcome to HHW!
Tell us about yourself.
Howdy. I'm a follower of the Kimmelian School of Wizardry and decided it was about time I join this wacky group to see what kinda trouble y'all can stir up. :) Actually, I'm the moderator of the Film Score Monthly music forum, an admirer of the Kritzerland label, and an all-around swell guy. This place appears to have an upbeat vibe, which is refreshing to see on the dastardly Internet.
-
Back from the doctor, who is still all adrenalin and hyperactivity. It's kinda like being treated by Tigger. He got all of the cancer, he said, and I can go back to work and start living normally again. So, I guess I'm back at work next Wednesday. And I'm thankful beyond belief.

TOD: I am a creature of blue jeans and comfortable cotton/linen shirts. But I, too, would welcome hats coming back. I wear a fedora when it gets really cold here, which isn't too often.

Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden - not my favorite, but it was OK and kept me reading until the end. One of our members was quite insistent that we read it, so I hope she shows up tonight to participate in the conversation. Here's a video of the author talking about the book:

I love the curved desktop bookcase that's behind her!

DR John G - thanks for sharing your great medical report with us! Take it easy on your return to work.

DR (Dear Reader) Allardyce do you have any pets?
-
DR (Dear Reader) Allardyce, we are so happy to have you join us! This is the nicest place on the internet. Many of us have met in real life and have become very good friends. Heck, we are all good friends, even though most of us haven't met in real life.
-
John G., what good news!
-
DR (Dear Reader) Allardyce do you have any pets?
Yep. A dog and a cat. And in spite of what they both think, I'm in charge. :)
-
Ok, people, help me write something.
I am writing up the bulletin. One of our congregation members is very ill and is in hospice care. She is doing what all of us would like to do: attending her "celebration of life" while she is still here to enjoy it.
Any suggestions on how to word that? I need to put it in the announcements to invite people to stay after the service for this celebration.
She is truly a very nice, gracious lady.
-
TOD: Lucky for all of us, leopard spots have never gone out of style.
-
Welcome, new DR Allardyce!
-
Welcome to DR Allardyce
I just came back from Costco where they had the DVD for Season 2 of Downton Abbey - the UK Version. I find that interesting as there is still a few more episodes left on PBS for Season 2.

Please join [insert her name here] as she celebrates her life
on [insert date here] at [insert time here], following worship service.
This will be an occsion to reaffirm friendships and to say goodbye.

CRANBERRIES!

The MD of the next Kritzerland show has picked up his music.

CRANBERRIES!
What...did you find some in your bed? ;D

You'll catch on to our little "things" here at haineshisway.com :)
UNDERPANTS!

Thank you for the reply to the message MR BK - I shall pass along the information.

"She's not quite dead yet" probably isn't appropriate.

That's a Monty Python reference, for those who are aghast I would post such a thing.

DR LAURA - I have always liked the first line of the poem "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman
I CELEBRATE myself, and sing myself,
And what I assume you shall assume,
For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.

This just in:
Producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" and the legit helmers' union, the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, have settled the lawsuit SDC brought against "Spider-Man" on behalf of director Julie Taymor.
The settlement, resolving a dispute over unpaid helming royalties, will see producers paying Taymor the full coin due for her directing duties on the tuner. Still pending is a lawsuit Taymor brought against the "Spider-Man" producers in November over royalties related to her writing contributions as one of the co-creators of the musical.
The settlement also seemingly reps the first step of Taymor's official disengagement from the big-budget project, which struggled through a long, rocky preview period and creative turnover to become one of the top-grossing productions on the Broadway boards. Producers will pay Taymor her full weekly royalties -- said to be in the range of $10,000 per week -- for her services as director of the Gotham staging of "Spider-Man," from the start of performances through the eventual end of the New York run, as well as shelling out additional coin to Taymor if and when the production recoups.
SDC has agreed that Taymor's directing services are officially completed and she'll have no further involvement in the show in that capacity, although the two sides also made an arrangement for compensation for future productions.
Of the two legal actions, the lawsuit filed with the SDC had seemed the most likely to be resolved in Taymor's favor. Although the storyline and book of the tuner were altered significantly after Taymor exited the production, major chunks of the show's original staging -- which presumably originated with Taymor -- remain.
A tougher battle seems likely over the compensation allegedly owed to Taymor as one of the original co-writers of the book, since much of the tuner's final product mirrors previously existing iterations of the "Spider-Man" story, including the 2002 Sony pic. That lawsuit was brought by Taymor personally, rather than through a union such as SDC filing.
As part of the settlement, producers also agree to drop litigation that questioned SDC's jurisdiction with regards to the production. Taymor and original choreographer Daniel Ezralow, as well as the more recent additions of helmer Philip William McKinley and choreographer Chase Brock, are all members of SDC.
"The litigation between us is over, and we are hopeful that any remaining issues between the producer and Ms. Taymor regarding her role as author can also be resolved to the satisfaction of all," said SDC prexy Karen Azenberg.
"We are very happy to have reached an amicable compromise with the SDC that will allow us all to move on," said Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris, both of 8 Legged Prods., in a joint statement.

That's a Monty Python reference, for those who are aghast I would post such a thing.
Only mostly dead. (I think that is a Princess Bride reference.)

Thank you, Ron and JRand.

We are hoping she will make it until Sunday.

John, that's fantastic news! Has he outlined a plan of any sort of treatment for the cancer, or is he confident he got it all?
-
So, it's been an afternoon of ROBERTA aggravation, which I suspect will continue for several months, and some tax tallies that went swiftly and easily.

Signing off until after the book ladies leave - bye for now!

That's it. No other treatment. I have to go back for an appointment in three months and each quarter for this year. Then, it's annually after that.
Thank you all for the well wishes.

Does any one here belong to Angie's List? It seems that every time I turn on the TV or my email there is an advertisement for it

I know it's stupid, but I really like the Chevy Cruz advert where the guy is trying ( and failing ) to spring a big surprise proposal

I am not arranging it, Vixmom. The family decided this. But everyone in the church won't know. So I need to put something in the bulletin to let them know.

ah! and I'm back
-
Mr. BK I am afraid you were misinformed about the availability of Downton Abby DVDS in the US, I've had mine for a couple of weeks now
-
Cillaliz! Are you back? Was the wedding fun? How is your Mom?
-
The error messages are for the usual reason - they did an update (what else is new) and something reverted back to an old setting (what else is new) - they have apparently fixed it now. I'm not going to do any more updates for anything until I find out if those updates are causing problems.
-
Good evening! Sorry to be so E and T
-
that data base thing was weird though
-
The wedding was a blast. Photos on facebook. I can post a couple if you'd like.

Does anyone else watch Top Gear on the BBC channel?

Since Vixadas has discovered it it has replaced CSI reruns as his favorite show

Mom was fine while we were there, sore, but fine. When she got home dad insisted that she go to the doc to get checked (she wanted to) and he did an MRI. There was no sign of any injury and no sign of alzheimers. He didn't do the MRI for that reason, but it's nice to know

good news - although I am confused by the "no signs of Alzheimer"s" statement - my Dad's neurologist told us that there is no conclusive way to test for Altzheimers other than a post mortum brain biopsy - is there a MRI test now that can diagnose it?
-
Nice to know DR Cilla. :)

I don't know that it can diagnose it, it's just what he told her

Not as easy to link to facebook photos as it used to be. I'll resize some of them

Joplin was really an experience and I'm still processing it. The disaster area is so vast you really can't take it in. Everyone you meet has stories of how they made it through. It's really life changing just to be there

I took that to mean he didn't need an MRI to see if there was injury from a fall since she was mentally fine.

Oh, no I meant he didn't do an MRI to test for Alzheimers, he did it to see if she had a subdural hematoma or something like that. My grandpa had that happen after a fall once and mom was afraid it could have happened to her. We were glad it didn't

Wait. They are both twins?

Such wonderful photos. Thanks, Cillaliz.

Ditto and DITTO!
That's all I have to say on today's Topic of the Day.

We had our final dress rehearsal and "A Bucket of Blood" opens tomorrow night! We started tonight's run-through at about 7:35 and ended the first act at about 8:20...nice length for the first act. We had a 10 minute intermission and the second act went about another 45-50 minutes. There were about eight or so people in our audience and they seemed to enjoy it. Everything went well. :D
Now, we just need to sell tickets.

Welcome New D(ear)R(eader) Allardyce!

...and very nice pictures of your pet!

Lovely pictures of the wedding, Cillaliz!

The groom has been a superman uberfan all his life. He was wearing his superman shirt under his tux
I went to a friend's wedding last year and the groom loves Batman. He even got a Batman logo put on his wedding ring...with his wife's approval.

Back from the doctor, who is still all adrenalin and hyperactivity. It's kinda like being treated by Tigger. He got all of the cancer, he said, and I can go back to work and start living normally again. So, I guess I'm back at work next Wednesday. And I'm thankful beyond belief.
Congratulations, John G.!! ;D

Wither Mr Piano?
Wither, indeed.
"...while her withers wither with her...."

Back from lunch, where I ran into Tammy Minoff, who I hadn't seen in, what, six years???
How did that go? Did you have lunch together?
-
No, we just said hey and talked for a little bit. It was a little awkward, as you might imagine.
