Re: No curtains.
I'm going to assume that the producers are the ones behind no curtains. It cost money to have union guys to raise and lower the curtain a few times a performance. I am sure curtains can be raised (and lowered) with a push of a button, but you'll still need to pay those union guys as if they were doing it themselves.
BTW I have nothing against unions they are important
I thought the laws of New York required a fire curtain, that coulld only be raised when the show was ready to start. I guess I am out touch with Broadway theaters. Next thing I know, you will be telling me that they no longer use ghost lights.
Ah DR ELMORE posted his report as I was typing.
Hmmmm.....do we call entering data on the keyboard.....typing? Or is it something else?

I'm up, have been to Fed Ex, am packed and shall now relax until the car whisks me away to the airport, after which I shall be on my way home.

They call it "computer keyboarding" so boys would sign up to take the class. "Typing" is for girls.
Well, my work hasn't been in vain. The Library of Congress may do a Victor Herbert concert in the fall and that would help promote the Herbert Collection. I am very excited about this.Vibes that it happens.
that's like laughing at the boy who wanted to be a masseuse when he grew up.They call it "computer keyboarding" so boys would sign up to take the class. "Typing" is for girls.
I remember hot debates in Junior High in our typing class as to whether boys should be called typers or typists.
In the early 1980s our local campus had an office administration program that included a typing course that you could take for 1, 2, or 3 credit hours. It was almost all women who took that course. However, when it was obvious that the personal computer was here to stay, enrollment spiked in the typing course and it was all young men who took it for 1-credit, just to learn the keyboard.
Not long before I retired, I was helping a middle-aged unemployed man in the library. He was trying to use a job search/resume creation website and it was obvious he didn't know how to type. I wanted to say, "Here's your first problem..."
AND then I KNEW....only about half of the keyboards had letters on them.....so from the start I was at a typewriter with blank keys.... I think it made me learn more quickly. But one thing I NEVER did understand was that in a 5-minute timed test, you had a chart that gave you the average number of words....but then you had to take the TOTAL of the mistakes you made from that average. I always thought the mistakes should be averaged as well.....but it was an argument I was never able to win with my teacher.

I must say that I am exhuasted today. This Sleep Apnea business reall kicks my butt. I am glad to finally have identified the problem of why I have been so constantly exhausted, but I sure wish the treatment would kick in...some days I feel really good, but most days I still do not. It does take time, however, I am told. How long have you been using the mask?

Monday morning greetings! We had a nice visit from Rob and Mary Linda last night and a spur-of-the-moment dinner of Chinese take-out. They went home with all the leftovers, so should have some nice lunches to take to work for a couple of days. Speaking of work, Paramedic Rob starts a new job today. He's doing the same kind of work, but with a competitor who offered better equipment, better schedule, better benefits, and, above all, more money.
In my memory, the typing class I took one semester in high school was equal parts male/female, and I don't recall any stigma attached to it in any way. It wasn't like a "shop" and "home ec" thing. I'd previously taught myself to type (using the two fingers on each hand method) on my mother's ancient Royal at home, and was thrilled to finally learn it for real.
I do say "type", and so does every civilized person I know.
Taylor and I had lots of fun. I gifted her with a personally autographed photo from my dear friend, actress Laurie Mitchell. The photo that Laurie signed for Taylor (and her little brother Ben) was from ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE, a movie that both of the kids love. Taylor was totally in awe of getting this autographed photo from a movie star. I was surprised at how much she loved it. She just kept staring at it and started asking all sorts of questions about Laurie and how they did the special effects in the film and who else from the film I knew.
I don't recall about the WPM in typing class. With my error rate I'd have had a minus score.
I am sure I got an "A" for effort, though.
Had a long but very nice weekend.

BUT
In London theaters during the interval a fire curtain is lowered and raised

I seem to still have a lot of dollar bills left. I think I did not stuff enough g-strings last night.

Of course, the big event in our household this week is the installation of our new furnace and air conditioning. I tried to post the promised photo of the new furnace sitting next to the old one, but got the message that the upload folder is full.

AOL keeps kicking me out today.I'm sure you've been kicked out of better places. ;D
After her dance recital (Ben was not with us, he was down in Corvallis staying with his grandparents), Taylor and I returned to her home, popped popcorn and watched episodes of the original FLIPPER tv series which we both enjoyed.

The flew into Shanghai and stayed for two days then took a bus to Suzhou (sp?), which is where the host families are. They'll be there for several days before flying to Beijing.
Decided out of nothing other than curiosity to get the ootleg-bay of the film version of Porgy and Bess, and must say, it's not horrible. :)
Nice to have a sparkling new stove (oven/cooker) which arrived today and has been installed.
I never took typing, and sometimes wish I had. I did lose a potential job with a publishing company in New York because of it (well, that and it wasn't paid and the company didn't think I could do it for free since I didn't live in the city).
But I wonder: Who was Vixmom's typing teacher? ;D
Oy! such a frustrating afternoon. I need a drink.

Is Melissa Gilbert closing in on a nervous breakdown, or has she already had one? I worried every week on DWTS whether she was going to make it until the end of the program.
Job kudos to the kids.
I believe my best time in typing was 113 WPM. With 112 errors.

It is an Italian liquor that's orangy-red in color and is bitter orange flavored. It's rather good straight up on the rocks or with tonic water.

If you are a vegetarian, does that mean you can't drink Beefeater's Gin?
Last night after we finished watching the 1956 Sci Fi movie WORLD WITHOUT END Keith turned on his iPad to read notes about the movie. After reading a bit of trivia he opened a page on the actresses. I said I wonder if DR MBarnum interviews any of them. Two seconds later Keith began laughing and read"According to Mike Barnum......"

I am feeling better and better every day. I just wish my leg would cooperate.
David Clair was my typing teacher, which I just remembered I first took in Jr High, not high school, although I did later take a class in high school.
My high school typing teacher was Mrs. Zuckerman. My best typing score was 70 wpm.

George, what does your mother do when she has the family over for dinner? One half of the family is vegan, and the other half is meateaters.

Wow!!! I bet it was thrilling, especially since you didn't fall. I did hold my breath until I finished reading the end of the sentence.
From personal experience, you really shouldn't do more than the therapist say you should do, it causes back sliding.
Evening all.
Vibes to Dear Son Bryan as well! I hope he loves his chosen profession. There is nothing like being my age and discovering that you hate your job but you don't know what to do about it.

DR Danise VIBES YOUR JOB BECOMES MORE ENJOYABLE!!Thank you DR Jane. I don't think that is going to happen.
SO, a few months ago, mom and dad went to the animal shelter at my brother's insistance and adopted Lily the cat. Lily had gone to the shelter with her sister Lucy and her mother LuLu. Apparently after Lily left, Lucy stopped eating and wouldn't come out or be social. They took her to the vet and nothing was wrong with her, the vet said she was grieving for her sister. SO>>>fast forward to last weekend. My mother INSISTED she WOULD NOT have 2 cats, but she was willing to see if Lucy would eat if she was back with Lily. She ate and ater........today my brother and I were at lunch and she called and said "Tell you brother to pick this cat up right now" I asked what she had done and the answer was nothing she just wasn't going to have 2 cats.Good news for the cats. And your mom.
So, I got on the phone calling whoever I could think of who may be willing to adopt Lucy so she didn't have to go back to a cage in the shelter. We had just give up when I got a call. It was my dad he said "We have reached a decision. Here's your mother". She said "We're keeping both cats. That's all there is to it". LOL! I don't know what Lucy did, but she convinced mom she should stay.
My mother still says 85 is no age to start raising cats, but I have assured her they won't go to a shelter if she can't take care of them....I just hope that's a long time in the future....5 cats would be well on the way to a crazy cat lady, lol

Today at the therapist's front counter, they had a flyer for two kitties who were in need of homes. The owner's mother is a patient of the P.T. office, and her daughter, the owner, was killed last week by a drunk driver. Unfortunately, both of the kitties were male, so I had to pass.

Yes, DR Jane, I'm sure his experience contributed to their decision to have him do only 13 hours of ride-along. He was most concerned about company-specific procedures and protocols. At his former job it was just him and an EMT. I don't know the set-up with the new company.
We'll find out more on Saturday when we all go out to dinner to celebrate Father's Day. We won't go to nice restaurants on the actual day (nor Mother's Day).
