Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the onset of on set, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently on set, filming a MOOvie.

Good morning, all.

Great to have you back, Sam.

Long day ahead of me. Doctor's appointment this afternoon, interview for a freelance story, a holiday wine tasting, dinner out. Oh, yeah, and work, plus work on the personal business. I'm already tired thinking about it and I just woke up.

Good morning, all!  I could not get to sleep last night, so I ended up sleeping in an hour longer than I liked.

Yesterday afternoon, the two charges for $97+ that were made last Tuesday were refunded to my account, so that takes care of two thefts. Before I head down to Toyland, I will stop at the bank to file claims against the two charges on my debit card that are now posted to my account. God knows how long it will take to see that $120+ returned.

On the good news front, the date for the Big Meeting with the Man From Philadelphia and my colleagues has been set, all of the basic wrk for ROBERTA is in the bag, and my new stove works mighty fine. I hope the new fridge is as successful.

DR ChasSmith, when do you fly to Los Angeles?

Yes, This.

Starting a post with "This." as its own paragraph instead of "Same here" or "I agree" or "I disagree" or any number of more civilized and conversational lead-ins to your own contribution to a thread.  I never saw it in my life till just the past few months.  Now it's a "thing" and I wonder how/where it started.

Also, the now ubiquitous "+1".  Where does this crap come from?  I'm going to guess it all starts on Facebook.  Unless proven otherwise, Facebook shall take the blame.  In fact, it can have the blame for everything I don't like, saving time and energy and speculation.

The fact that people are so quick to adopt the latest insipid expression is something that annoys the living This+1 out of me , satisfying two TODs in the process.

DR Cillaliz, have you and your mom been watching DANCING WITH THE STARS?

Minus Bristol, and possibly Kirstie (although she was super entertaining last night) I think the level is unbelievable. I am so impressed. My favorites are: Shawn/Derek (the past 2 weeks they have been exceptional), Apollo/Karina. And last night I became fans of Melissa/Tony (love how she is trying to include so much difficulty) and Kelly/Val (they were so good last night).

If it isn't Bristol or Kirstie that goes it's gonna be really sad. I'm sort of hoping that those two go first so we can have all superior dances.

Weird dream last night in a night of frequently interrupted sleep. I dreamt about the power of the ampersand (&) and how the use of this lazy, ugly bit of shorthand (anathema to grammarians) was actually a sign that prosperity was around the corner. I don't know that I've ever dreamed of grammar before. I do know it was work related. Since we're not supposed to use ampersands, I don't know how its use could signify anything but a mistake.

I think it's one of the better Connery Bond movies.  I prefer it over THUNDERBALL and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, and with the possible exception of THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and (only because Christopher Lee is in it) THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, I think it beats all of the Roger Moore Bond films.

DR JOHN G the Dream-O-Matic 6000 says that this dream says that you think that in some areas of work, you are being held back, and that you are actually capable of much more even in the post you are now handling.  Dreaming of a specific punctuation mark can mean prosperity, but also in this case may indicate that piece of your writing that has not been responded to or given a grade or marking will indeed get notice that exceeds your expectation.

Well, you're comparing it to other terrible Bonds.  I don't like Thunderball or You Only Live Twice and I loathe the Roger Moore series.  Diamonds fits very comfortably with those.  Any slack I would cut it is removed because of Bruce Glover and that other awful actor who play the two gay villains.

I have a question for DR Jane, or BK who probably knows this as well.

Stats.  Or Stat's.  For burgers?  DR Jane mentioned it when we were talking about Beverly Hills and it sounded slightly familiar.  I subsequently found a couple of notes from those years indicating I went there, but I'm completely blank on what it was, where it was, anything about it, and the word "stats" is making for an impossible Google search.  I'd love to fill in a memory here.

I found this.  It isn't much.
http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/598665

I remember the thousand island dressing which I have always preferred on a hamburger.

I also remember cheese in the middle of the burger and rye bread.  We always ate at the one on Wilshire & Doheny.

Mmmm, thousand, just like my Hamlet favorite.

Thank you, DR Jane.  Mine would have been the Wilshire near Doheny one.  Was it a coffee shop style jernt on the north side of Wilshire?  Did they serve breakfast as well as hamburgers and lunch stuff?

Put the Blame on Meme

Hate to be a difficult person but it rhymes with "team" Some folk do say "mame" but most folk say meeme to rhyme with team or beam or gleam, etc.

I don't go to ebay but I went just now to see and I get pages and pages and pages and pages and pages and pages of pictures. Don't know what your problem is JR but it works for me.

And now I have cookies from ebay in my history which I will go and delete.

Some DRs might know Sara Shane best from the Gordon Scott Tarzan film

Ah yes! I remember her well. She was most attractive in "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure".

The Hamlet thousand island was nowhere near as good.

They served all sorts of other foods besides hamburgers.  I recall ordering delicious BLT's.

It wasn't "fancy" like the Hamlet so I guess you could say it was more like a coffee house.

Okay, I think I know which clump of brain cells it was.  And it's funny, because I've remembered that particular place a few times over the years but could never put a name to it.  And I know it wasn't there for too much longer after I'd found it.

It was a sad day for me when they closed.

Saturday nights my parent's usually went out to dinner with friends.  Before leaving my father would often go pick my hamburgers from Stats for us kids.  Once my brother began driving I had to alternate with the Apple Pan because it was his favorite place.  I didn't really like the Apple Pan yet it is still rated one of the best hamburger places.  He also liked their pie which to me was just ok.  No apple pie has ever compared to my mother's.

My brother still likes to get a hamburger & slice of pie there and I, of course, wouldn't eat at Stats today.

Have you been talking to my mother?  :)

As far as I know, the only two Stat's were on Pico near Robertson (the one we ate at) and the one on Wilshire near La Cienega (one block east) - I don't believe there was ever a Stat's at Wilshire and Doheney.

Had a sandwich and no fries or onion rings, did errands and whatnot, had to watch all the Outside The Box footage and take notes for the editor, which took most of the afternoon, and picked up one little package (Ontrac of course hadn't delivered but subsequently has, so I'll just get that tomorrow) and I'm now home and relaxing.

I thought I went to Pico & Robertson then didn't read about one there and figured it was me.  Thank you.  I feel so much better now.  I have absolutely no recollection of a second Stat's.  I just remember turning right on Pico from Motor and driving the short distance (remember when there wasn't any traffic and it only took a few minutes) to the restaurant.

Plot thickens.  Case reopened.

I got Wilshire & Doheny from that board Jane found.  If that's wrong, my small coffee shop near there is once again a mystery.

What this takes is sitting down in front of old city directories.  I have a few from my other home towns, and they're worth their weight in gold.

It reminds me slightly of the Reuben casserole, which I will be making soon, most likely this weekend. Recipe was really easy.

Will you send me the leftovers?

I got a book today from amazon - called Hard Times: The Adult Musical in the 1970s.  Even though it mostly concerns itself with live adult musicals like Oh Calcutta, the lady author, who I apparently corresponded with in 2007, devotes a rather large amount of pages to Nudie Musical - all very interesting.  She gets a couple of facts wrong, but she's got some really interesting insights from her perspective, and she obviously adores the movie.  Very nice.
