Well, you've read the notes, the notes were all about 27, and now it is time for you to post until the 27 cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: GORGONIZE!
-
And the new Kritzerland release is a deliriously gorgeous CD:
Kritzerland is proud to present a great new limited edition soundtrack – two scores on one CD:
LOVE IS A MANY-SPLENDORED THING/THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH
Music Composed and Conducted by Alfred Newman
Love Is A Many-Splendored Thing was a big, glossy, uber-romantic tale of an illicit interracial love affair back in the days when that sort of thing was rather scandalous. The screenplay was by John Patrick (from the novel by Han Suyin), who had won a Pulitzer Prize for adapting The Teahouse of the August Moon for Broadway. To direct, producer Buddy Adler hired the wonderful director Henry King, a Fox regular who’d helmed such pictures as The Song of Bernadette, Captain from Castile, A Bell for Adano, The Gunfighter, David and Bathsheba, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, King of the Khyber Rifles and many others. The stars were starry indeed – William Holden and Jennifer Jones. The film was a box-office and critical success, and audiences loved the story, the performances, and the lush cinematography of Leon Shamroy. The film was nominated for a whopping eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress, and it won for Best Costume Design, Best Song (by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster) and, best of all, Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic of Comedy Picture.
Alfred Newman’s score is one of the most romantic and beautiful scores ever written. Newman’s stunning variations on the Fain and Webster song, along with his own gorgeous secondary themes creates a unique atmosphere with a swirling tenderness that’s almost indescribable. The music for Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing aches and roils with love, loneliness, lost feelings, and confused hearts. It’s a glorious listening experience and one of Newman’s crowning achievements in film scoring, and that’s saying something given the number of masterpieces he wrote during his long and illustrious career.
Just a few months previously, before audiences would swoon to Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing, Billy Wilder’s film version of George Axelrod’s hilarious play, The Seven Year Itch, had audiences rolling in the aisles. With original star Tom Ewell repeating his Broadway role and the incandescent and stunning Marilyn Monroe as “The Girl,” The Seven Year Itch was a huge hit, due in part to the iconic image of Monroe standing on a subway grating with her dress (designed by Travilla) blowing up – it was not possible to escape that image that year, and it’s been hard to escape it ever since. As the tagline to the poster read: It TICKLES and it TANTALIZES, and boy did it ever. And equally as tantalizing is the score by Alfred Newman. Newman’s score is monothematic, with many variations on the same theme – “The Girl Upstairs.” It also has a classic Newman main title that gets things off to a rousing start.
Love Is a Many Splendored Thing was released previously by Varese Sarabande and was a quick sellout. For this release, we’ve remastered it and moved two early source cues, one of which is by Leigh Harline, to after the film score proper, giving the actual early score cues a bit more prominence. The Seven Year Itch is making its world premiere on this CD. We’ve included the main title, and several variations on “The Girl Upstairs,” which represents most of what was usable from the somewhat problematic original materials. The entire program is presented in that unparalleled Fox stereo sound.
Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing/The Seven Year Itch is limited to 1000 copies only. The price is $19.98, plus shipping.
CDs are in stock and will ship within a day or two. To place an order, see the cover, or hear audio samples, just visit www.kritzerland.com.

Morning all.
That is all.
-
Well, as Dear Larry has been known to say,
Let's see what fresh hell awaits when the office opens today.
-
Oatmeal, walnuts, dried cherries and cinnamon and coffee.
Bye for now.
-
good morning to all
-
Good morning, all.
Coffee!!
By this time tomorrow I have to be at the VW dealer which means getting up at 6:30 in the morning, so I had best savor a morning of normalcy. It's time for my 135,000-mile checkup. Okay, not mine. The car's. The rest of us can only hope to reach 135,000.
-
Fantastic news about the show!
But would we expect less? Of course not.
It's tragic that we here are not seeing these. Tragic, I tell you.
-
Good morning, all.
And happy Monday vibes.
Congrats on a great show, BK. So, R&H did draw a crowd after all.
-
;D
-
Morning ;)
Very long weekend it seemed.
Glad it's Monday, I get to spend the whole week at home and get things done.
Did see Taken 2, which was good.
-
Must order cd's.
Need to figure out how to access my visa card and get this stupid access code for paypal. What a pain in the butt. The tighter security is good, I should not complain.
Will catch up when I get home from work.
Have a good Monday everyone.
;D
-
Congrats again bk, on a wonderful show and booksigning.

Here's an excerpt from the Paul Francis Webster chapter in my book, MY FORTY-FIVE YEARS IN HOLLYWOOD AND HOW I ESCAPED ALIVE. Webster and Sammy Fain were both long time publicity clients.
“‘Love Is a Many Splendored Thing’ was the real battle,” claimed
Webster. “I won my second Oscar with it, but at first it was an orphan.
Nobody wanted it.”
The song had been written with Sammy Fain for the 1955 20th
Century-Fox film of the same name, which starred William Holden and
Jennifer Jones.
In those days, most popular singers relied on others to write their songs
rather than using their own compositions, but nobody wanted this one.
Eddie Fisher refused to record the Webster-Fain tune. So did Perry Como,
Doris Day (naturally) and Nat King Cole, who turned down a Fox offer of a
Cadillac El Dorado and ten thousand dollars to make a recording.
A desperate Fox production chief, Buddy Adler, phoned his “dear
friend” Tony Martin, and asked him to record the song “as a personal
favor.” Martin, who was then appearing in Las Vegas, agreed and Adler
had the music flown over to him. Next day, Adler received a two-word
telegram from his “dear friend”: “It stinks.”
Finally, The Four Aces, a new group that was yet to hit the big time,
recorded “Love Is a Many Splendored Thing”. With the song about to be
ejected from the picture, Adler had offered to subsidize an entire album for
the Aces…with the proviso that the Webster-Fain tune be one of the cuts.
The song was an instant hit with the public. Doris Day, Nat King
Cole and the others who’d previously rejected it rushed to make their
own recordings. In all, over a hundred artists turned out renditions of
this now-all-time top standard.
Years later, Tony Martin sang the song at Buddy Adler’s funeral.
“That always amused me,” said Webster.
-
Thank you, DR Druxy. Amazing how those things happen. I'm really trying to imagine how the song was received by those people as a stinker in the first place.
-
It's one of those songs -- it's impossible to imagine it not existing.
-
Good morning, all! I slept really late and now I am up and movng. I am hoping that my refrigerator will show up today. If it doesn't, i'm sure it's because of gasolne problems and power outside the City. Ir will be nice when this madness is resolved, though, and I can stop obsessing over it.
One of my Dublin producers arrives in town for a week and I look forward to seeing him, . My dramatic soprano Lynda, the Lady Maude on EILEEN and the singer in BECOMING JANE, arrives in town on Wednesday and I'm hoping I can viait with her as well. It's a week crammed with incident.
-
Good luck and good vibes to everybody out there today!
-
CD ordered!
-
Monday morning greetings! Today I'll be making a batch of caramel corn to package for the "Sweet Shop" portion of AAUW's holiday bazaar, which is Saturday. Our contributions have to be there by Friday morning and I want to get mine done before turning my attention to medical issues Wednesday and Thursday.
-
And the word of the day is: GORGONIZE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: SOMETHING STUPID
-
I'm up, we've announced everywhere, and I'm going back to bed.
-
BK, congratulations on another successful Kritzerland show!

TOD - "Sing Hosanna, Hallelujah" from the New Christy Minstrels' first Christmas album: "In the month of December on the 25th day..." This song tells the whole story, sacred and secular, including the food traditions and the joy of seeing Christmas through a child's eyes.
And, then, of course, it's hard to beat that boy soprano singing "Once in David's Royal City" to open the Christmas Eve services at King's College, Cambridge (an NPR tradition in our household).
-
TOD:
I know not all of these are obscure:
Songs:
The Bells of St. Mary''s (The Bobby Sox and the Blue Jeans version)
Sun Valley Serenade
Santa Took the A Train
The Holiday Hop (from Carols for a Cure No. 5)
Los Peces in el Rio (Antonio Banderas' version, also Carols for a Cure No. 5)
Good King Wenceslas (Mel Torme's scat version)
Hard Candy Christmas
Turkey Lurkey Time
Carols
O Little Town of Bethlehem
It Came Upon the Midnight Clear
O, Rejoice, Ye Christians Proudly

Fridge door VIBES for DR Elmore!
-
TOD
I know there's an obscure or unusual Christmas/holiday song or two lurking in my memory.
Until it surfaces...
Duke Ellington's version of the NUTCRACKER SUITE.
Various songs on the Ultra-Lounge CHRISTMAS COCKTAILS albums, and similar albums.
-
Which brings us right to the top of PAGE 2.
-
DR Elmore - hope the new fridge delivery goes smoothly!
-
Hi everyone one. The weekend is over and the new week has begun. Funny how that can always be counted on.
-
Congrats on the successful Kritzerland show. One of these days, I should attempt to attend one. Maybe if it was a Lloyd-Webber evening....
-
Sunday at the restaurant is kinda crazy I'm finding out. A lot of kids, which means, a LOT of Disney, which was fine for me I guess. However, the time flew quite rapidly. I have another week to work out some more songs to sing, which I don't believe my selections I have are "Landing" well.
-
DR Jane, I put three postcards in the mail today. Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota
-
The new fridge arrived with the doors still not hinged correctly. However, these guys were ready, the doors were switched on their hinges, the old is removed, and the new installed. I am currently cleaning 33 years of dust and crap that I swept out from behind the old fridge before the new one was moved into place.
This is a great burden off my back and I couldn't be more pleased. I hope the election goes as well tomorrow with my candidate, and I think it's time for impeachment or terminal unemployment for Jon Husted of Ohio and Baldy Scott from Florida, given what they've done to their voters, who will, I hope, remember the crap they've pulled when it comes time for their re-election. They're ascrooked as the man whose election they're trying to fix.
End of soapbox and return to regular programming.
-
I have the cat dilemma solved for trips where I can take Callie. I really am not worried about leaving Ricky and Boo with lots of food. That gets me through the end of the year. It doesn't solve what to do when I fly somewhere and Callie can't go, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
-
DR Elmore. Happy you got delivery men who knew how to install a refrigerator correctly.
-
DR Jane, no Callie won't get used to traveling. I used to take her and Nilla with me when I went to the lake, until Nilla went crazy and I had to put him to sleep. She hates the car and will be upset that she's going, but it's better than being locked in a cube for days.
-
Back to work. Laters
-
Oh, I had a friend literally get red in the face when speaking to me about the election today. She knew I voted in September, so what good does it good to get all upset and red faced about it now? OH well.
-
Love that story DR DRUXY!!!
-
DR ELMORE is your new fridge - Frost Free? Does it have an electric touch door opener like Julia Meade used advertise on TV?
Julia didn't know someone had unplugged her fridge.....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--qQoY8o-0c
-
DR Jane:
I still need an address for where to send postcards.
Or if they're all set on NY and CT, then, as Emily Litella would say..."never mind!" :)
Oh, and I still wasn't clear on whether they want cards postmarked from each state, or just cards that feature something from each. If the latter, and we can stick'em all in an envelope, I might have some others I can send.
-
DR Elmore. Happy you got delivery men who knew how to install a refrigerator correctly.
Thanks! It's a big relief. I wish I had a maid service to clean up!

I loved Julia Meade! I believe it's frost free; there's nothing in the manual about defrosting the fridge, so I hope it is! Alas, no door opener, but don't forget: Julia had state of the art appliances. I just have a plain old GE!
-
I really appreciate your ability to remember all of these commercials and other bits of pop art living, DR JRand62!
-
Nothing else rattling around in my head DR ELMORE....
Yes, Julia had WESTINGHOUSE.....you can be SURE....if it's Westinghouse!!!
-
I had to put my dog, Missy, down.
She was with me for almost 17 years.
:'(

Sorry to hear about Missy, DR Druxy...

NO COLD VIBES FOR DR GINNY!!!

GOOD OFFICE VIBES!!!

Morning ;)
Very long weekend it seemed.
Glad it's Monday, I get to spend the whole week at home and get things done.
Did see Taken 2, which was good.
Enjoy your week off. I'm looking forward to TAKEN 2
-
Very sorry to hear about Missy.
-
Oh no.
Vibes for DR DRUXY and SANDY ....

Exciting! I hope the installation goes well & you are very pleased with it.

Wonderful!
I'm always prepared to clean behind appliances when they are moved. Cat & dog hair accumulate very quickly. It would be impossible to wait 33 years. I find it hard to imagine that frig has been there for 33 years-lol

Peace of mind for now is good.

Have you ever used a very mild tranquilizer prior to traveling? I've done that for a couple of our cats when we have moved. It made a big difference.
-
Oh, I had a friend literally get red in the face when speaking to me about the election today. She knew I voted in September, so what good does it good to get all upset and red faced about it now? OH well.
I laughed & then sighed.

I'm sorry. I'm getting confused who I've sent the address to. I will do so right now. Both states would be great, thanks. Whichever method is easier for you will be fine. If you are sending more cards, by all mean stick them in an envelope. And thank you.
-
Another day sorting out material at the cinema archive office. There's so much of it and, to speed things up, I've brought some material home to deal with.
-
I had to put my dog, Missy, down.
She was with me for almost 17 years.
:'(
Oh, I am so very sorry. I hope you are comforted knowing she had a very long & good life with you. Of course knowing this doesn't ease the pain.

Got it, thanks!
So they don't need to be written on or postmarked or anything, just be postcards showing something from each state. Right? I needn't exclaim "Wish you were here!" ?
-
:) Nothing needs to be written on them, especially "wish you were here"-lol. You might put her name on it put I don't think it is necessary.
Again thanks. She doesn't have NY or CT.

NO COLD VIBES FOR DR GINNY!!!
Thanks, DR Jane. It's no worse today, so I'm thinking it may be allergies.
-
I have had the beginning stage of a cold so long now it must be allergies. I think asking about a cold before taking the prep is a good idea. As I have a prescription for ZuPrep I'm curious about the answer.
-
Went back to bed and got three more hours of sleep, then got up and have been printing orders for the last three hours. I "thought" we finally had a release week completely to ourselves, but, alas, another label came completely out of the woodwork and announced not one, but three new releases. It's so difficult. People were excited about us, were talking about us, and then this other company, out of the blue, has to announce moments after we do. Keep in mind that this company has NEVER announced like this before, not this early in the morning. I just don't think they understand how it splits focus in a really bad way, but all we can do is go about our business because the release patterns are never going to change and the market will keep being glutted like this and unnecessarily so if people would just not need to do three at one time. The good news is that prior to their announcement, orders were really healthy, and hopefully they will continue to be.
-
Han Suyin's novel A Many Splendoured Thing is one of my favorite reads.....I highly recommend especially to those who are fans of the film.
-
I think this title will be a quick sell out MR BK.
-
DR Jane, these are on their way:
CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, IL, IN, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, UT, VA, VT, WI, WY, and Canada.
For a few of those states there are two or three different cards, with a few vintage or otherwise unusual/collectible ones in the mix. I have a VERY modest postcard collection (it's not really even good enough to be called a collection), and almost all of these were dupes -- which are especially silly to keep around.
EDIT: It was fun going through them! :)
-
I had to put my dog, Missy, down.

Absolutely. Collectible, in a very general sense. I don't mean to imply that they're worth any real money. (So, she won't get rich on them, either! :)) Plus, they're dupes.

I did some damage at two (2) Barnes & Nobles this weekend.

Absolutely. Collectible, in a very general sense. I don't mean to imply that they're worth any real money. (So, she won't get rich on them, either! :)) Plus, they're dupes.
:)
My parent's traveled a lot from the time I was young which interested me in post cards. I had a rather large collection until it disappeared during one of our many moves.

This week is the Criterion sale at Barnes & Noble for those who just can't enough.
Last week, my dad asked if I would record "M," starring Peter Lorre, on TCM. My DVR recorded it, but something was coded incorrectly with TCM's broadcast and the recording ended about 10 minutes before the movie ended. :P When I looked at the DVR movie information at the very end of the recording, it showed a different title, so it stopped recording.
Anyway, I looked to buy a DVD of "M" for my dad and found four releases (on Amazon...I didn't even think about Barnes & Noble). I eventually decided to get THIS (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00065GX64/) version, for about $18 (used, "like new"). There was an earlier Criterion release (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0780021150/), as well as THIS DVD-R (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002K3KT2E/) release and this "remastered" DVD-R (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004Y209LU/).
I hope I made the best choice. I don't suppose anyone knows the differences...not that it matters. I already bought the DVD that I bought.
-
I wish we had a Barnes & Noble here.
-
I have to go to the dermatologist in Medford so I will do some errands there first. I don't feel like going at all as I have a mild migraine. My head isn't bad, I just feel woozy & sick. I hope getting out makes me feel better.
I got the doctor to fit me in for this appointment & now the spot I was concerned about is almost gone. It has happened before which history tells me could be skin cancer so I shall have the tiny spot removed anyway.

I have the Criterion edition. Is it out of print?
-
Sorry about Missy, Druxy. But a good, long dog life.
-
I have had the beginning stage of a cold so long now it must be allergies. I think asking about a cold before taking the prep is a good idea. As I have a prescription for ZuPrep I'm curious about the answer.
For the same procedure? When is yours?
-
Think I'm going to make a tater tot casserole for dinner. Anyone have a good recipe?
-
I don't have a recipe but I would love a tater tot casserole for dinner. I don't eat TTs regularly since I left Minnesota 32 years ago.
-
Han Suyin's novel A Many Splendoured Thing is one of my favorite reads.....I highly recommend especially to those who are fans of the film.
I haven't read the book. Would I like it better than the movie?
I think so...although the story is basically the same....there is more detail of her life and family and the politics of the time
-
Off to a dress rehearsal.....I hope I have a dress.

You got the right one. It's the latest Criterion release. I have that and the UK Masters of Cinema Blu-ray.
-
This Criterion was an improvement over the older. That's why they rereleased it. And they added a bunch of goodies.
-
Thanks for the info, ChasSmith!
-
That will be ten dollars, please.

That sure sounds like comfort food to me!

Whoever comes up with a good tater tot recipe, be sure to post it.

-
I'll make it in the oven and try and use healthier ingredients. Try....
-
How about: Take tater tots and crisp bacon ...
Anything is good after that, right? You could do a layered dish like a McDonald's breakfast sandwich with eggs on the bottom, bacon (or sausage) and tater tots instead of hash browns. Cover with melted cheese food, for those who have to have it.
Or just put tater tots on top of a green bean casserole instead of frenched onions or whatever those things are.

Just read this. Sounds comforting to me.

Egads! I was looking in the cupboards for items for the "clear liquid" diet I'm going to be on Wednesday and found beef bouillon cubes that expired in 1993 and chicken bouillon cubes that expired in 1989. Out they went - probably too high in sodium, anyway...
-
I couldn't be bothered to cook so, on the way home, I stopped off somewhere for lasagne with salad and garlic bread, which was yummy.
-
Is it my imagination or does food get discussed a lot here ;D

Well, I was horrified, DR George, and will spend some time while Richard is recovering from his foot surgery cleaning out the kitchen cupboards!
-
What are tater tots?
-
I just googled tater tots. I think we used to call them potato puffs. But i have not had those in many years.
-
It's very possible I have some bouillon cubes and a few other things in the "spice shelves" that are close to being that old.
-
There's been no word from our Dublin man Jonathan. I'm a little concerned.
-
DR Jane, no Callie won't get used to traveling. I used to take her and Nilla with me when I went to the lake, until Nilla went crazy and I had to put him to sleep. She hates the car and will be upset that she's going, but it's better than being locked in a cube for days.
Have you ever used a very mild tranquilizer prior to traveling? I've done that for a couple of our cats when we have moved. It made a big difference.
The drive is only 2 hours, so I won't do it for that length of time
-
DR Druxy, so sorry to hear about Missy. Sounds like she had a long wonderful life.
-
My first batch of caramel corn for the 2012 holiday season is in the oven. Heart-healthy? Not in the least...

Oh, my. It looks like a Garrison Keillor Lutheran Church Basement special! I would love to have that for dinner. Yummm
-
My casserole is in the oven. I'm not crazy about the preparation as it was a little weird and their didn't seem to be bacon (so I added more), we'll see in an hour or so how it turns out

Yup. For Nov. 27th. This will be my 3rd one, not too bad considering my dad had colon cancer. I have to take anti-nausea meds to keep the drink down. This is a new one but I'm not taking any chances for I requested the extra meds.

It's not well known but Tater Tots are one of the five basic foods for optimum health. Fried crunchy crisp, they're fantastic with omelettes or as a stand-alone meal alternative. Be certain to try them with melted Velveeta cheese or the warm cream filling from a Hostess Twinky or two!

I was wise to call for the dermatologist to fit me in today. She did a biopsy. If it is skin cancer it will be the best kind so there isn't anything to worry about.

Vibes to one and all!

What do you need postcards for? I have some ND and Mn ones I could send you if you are looking for more recent
-
I had to put my dog, Missy, down.
She was with me for almost 17 years.
:'(
I am very sorry to hear of Missy's passing, Druxy.... My condolences..
-
Someday Iwould like to get some more postcards from different states. That is one thing I always got on my travels was book by a regional author and postcards.
Ginny can attest to me purchasing a book on Ohio Barns. It is a gorgeous book!

Interestingly, in the early 20th Century it was not unusual to have family pictures as postcards. It was used to let other relatives know about their children or their farms.

DR Dakota do you collect post cards?
I can send you one from Oregon & have my friend send you one from California. The ones I'm collecting now are for my friend's granddaughter's school project. She doesn't have ND or MN that I know of.

What John said.

Ben, this looks like the IA/MN church basement tater tot casserole

Campbell's cream of mushroom soup makes just about anything taste good. A food favorite I don't keep in the house anymore.
I have used southwestern style cream soups also in Tator tot Hotdish...
NOt sure where the usage of Hotdish and Casserole change over.

Interestingly, in the early 20th Century it was not unusual to have family pictures as postcards. It was used to let other relatives know about their children or their farms.
I wouldn't want any special collectibles.

I was wise to call for the dermatologist to fit me in today. She did a biopsy. If it is skin cancer it will be the best kind so there isn't anything to worry about.

The author of the book on which the movie "Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing" was based has died.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/11/04/love-is-a-many-splendored-thing-author-dies/
It was also a soap opera....
With Andrea Marcovicci in it. I watched that as a kid.

DR Dakota do you collect post cards?
I can send you one from Oregon & have my friend send you one from California. The ones I'm collecting now are for my friend's granddaughter's school project. She doesn't have ND or MN that I know of.
I like to collect things from diffferent states and postcards are only part of it. I also include local attractions, etc. My idea to go that directions started when I was in 4H. I was on two different 4H award trips and we would exchange thingswith other states that had ND on it for things others were trading from other states ranging from bumper stickers to pins to postcards. It was a fun way to learn about other areas.
So now when I travel I take some ND postcards with me to share and then I purchase some from the places i visit.
-
The most interesting items are a small race car from Indiana and a frisbee from American Virgin Islands.
-
I do like to have postcards around for creative projects. The ND and MN ones come in handy for that. My rare and collectible ones I have put away. The ones I would share are duplicates.

This week is the Criterion sale at Barnes & Noble for those who just can't enough.
I did some damage at two (2) Barnes & Nobles this weekend.
My pocket book screams when I enter Barnes and Noble...

No mail, no packages, but a fun meeting with the agent and Jason Graae - can't really talk about it now, but something fun is afoot or maybe aelbow.
-
Since I was right there, I made a stop at K's Donuts and got my whipped cream-filled donut and then I made the horrid mistake of asking if they had one filled with peanut butter. The only place I've ever found one of those is Stan's in Westwood - the answer was yes and so I got one of those and that is now my new current favorite.
-
I had to put my dog, Missy, down.
She was with me for almost 17 years.
:'(
My deepest sympathies, DR Druxy.
-
DR Jane, no Callie won't get used to traveling.
I have. It never did a thing for Angel, but I felt better! ;)
-
Peanut butter filled donut!
BTW, is Stan's still there? I did see a small sign on one side of the building.

You can get it low fat. It doesn't taste that great alone but still tastes good in a recipe
-
It's not well known but Tater Tots are one of the five basic foods for optimum health. Fried crunchy crisp, they're fantastic with omelettes or as a stand-alone meal alternative. Be certain to try them with melted Velveeta cheese or the warm cream filling from a Hostess Twinky or two!
Ok, you had me until the filling from a twinkie
That statement is completely true because it is Keith's opinion, NOT mine.
Well, he really wouldn't eat Velveeta cheese ;D
Until I realized that Velveeta was actually sold off the shelf, not refrigerated, I stopped liking it.
I don't really understand how it can be called cheese.
I think they actually call it a cheese product or processed cheese or something like that
-
I haven't had scalloped potatoes in years.
Scalloped Potatoes and Ham...one of my favorite comfort foods
-
Peanut butter filled donut!
BTW, is Stan's still there? I did see a small sign on one side of the building.
I snapped a picture, and the sign wasn't all that small, but it's not like that one they used to have. I should have stopped. On the other hand, I'd just been to K's an hour before!

Everyone I have talked to today feels totally beaten down by all the ads, phone calls and random people blowing up about politics. I think four different people said today they dont' even care who wins anymore they just want it to stop.

Cilla - my ESP tells me that you have a message!

I'm going home...it feels like it's so much later than it is! :P

Night, all.

-
Cilla - my ESP tells me that you have a message!
YEAH!!!!!
-
I just realized that the time display on my browser says that my last message was "Posted on: Today at 09:05:08 PM".
I forgot to change the "Time Offset" option under "Look and Layout Preferences" in my profile to be 0, so that it no longer displays Daylight Saving Time time.
:)
-
And NOW I'm leaving.
-
Today I drove Vixdad to the station and the Vixter to school using Vixdad's Hyundai - worried about the fact that we were down to about a 1/3 of the tank
-
-then on my way to the office I saw a gas station with GASOLINE!!!!! The line was "only" 5 blocks long so I got on it and after "only" 40 minutes I was able to fill the tank!
-
One reason the line moved so "quickly" was that they were only accepting cash payment and people were arriving at the pumps after waiting only to turned away
-
Fortunately I was in such fear of long blackouts and inability to use credit or get to a working ATM witht he upcoming storm that I took a third of my paycheck in cash last week and kept it on my purse
I have not touched it saving it for an emergency so I was able to buy gas and travel to work in a much more cheerful frame of mind
-
it's amazing what cash can do :)
-
Is NY on an odd/even system for gas purchases? I think NJ went to that.
-
Vixmom....I see a message in your future....or your present, lol
-
So nice to have 1979 back again.
-
Then this evening I picked the Vixter up from work in my Honda and decide to take a little tour to seei f we could find another station as my car was also down to less than a 1/3 tank and we are expecting a N'or'Easter on Wednesday
-
I graduated from High School in 1979
-
Night, all.
(And Cillaliz, I agree. I want it to end. But y'all vote tomorrow if you haven't already.)
Oh I agree everyone needs to vote....I voted September 28th.
-
I live just a few houses from the main drag in town and there are 6 gas stations within walking distance but they were all dark with ropes across the driveways...
-
I decided to checkout a couple of other stations in a more residential are of townand after passing three more closed stations we found one that was pumping - a small station with only 4 pumps and a line that extended a mile down the road
-
We decided to pass and kept on going and 2 blocks later we found a station with 6 working pumps and only 20 cars on line!!
-
We waited on line and in 18 minutes I had a full tank of gas.
-
I cannot tell you what a relief it is
-
Sounds like a great day Vixmom
-
Vixmom....I see a message in your future....or your present, lol
Your crystal ball is quite accurate!!
-
Is NY on an odd/even system for gas purchases? I think NJ went to that.
No - NY hasn't gone to that system- we did that back in the 70's
-
it's amazing what cash can do :)
I NEVER carry cash - I am so pleased I had it with me - I would have been so upset to have waited in line and then to have been turned away - I thought the guy in the truck in front of me was going to hit the gas attendant but the police presence is probably what made him stop yelling and get back in his truck
-
So nice to have 1979 back again.
But Chas the OUTRAGEOUS gas prices in '79! Gas was almost 75 cents a gallon!!!! People predicted it would hit a dollar!!
-
I thought about the old gas prices when the newscaster announced to day that gas prices had plummeted to 3.50 a gallon
-
I graduated from High School in 1979
I was living in my apartment, working full time and going to college full time at night in 1979 ( I had my AA in '77)

Night, all.
(And Cillaliz, I agree. I want it to end. But y'all vote tomorrow if you haven't already.)
Oh I agree everyone needs to vote....I voted September 28th.
tomorrow morning I will take the Vixter to our polling center or her first presidential election as a voter

Sounds like a great day Vixmom
it really was - I am a very lucky lady - as our local paper has been showing me day after day

I thought about the old gas prices when the newscaster announced to day that gas prices had plummeted to 3.50 a gallon
The prices here before the storm were about $3.75 but now they are $4.17 and up ---
The Hess was selling at $3.86 today but the line was over 2 miles long - I paid $4.17 at both stations

That's not bad considering the lack of gas.

It is 3.10 or less in the Twin cities. Fargo is down to 3.29
-
I think gas is highest in LA right now - didn't BK say he paid over $5?

That's what I figured - my real concern is that with the expected storm and so many trees weakened by the hurricane is that the expected 45 MPH winds will be causing a lot more electrical outages and further gas shortages

So time to count my blessings
-
I have a family - both Vixdad and I have 2 living parents- all in their 80's
Our siblings are alive and well
our daughter is the joy of our lives
-
I have a home - small and worn as it may be it has a roof and walls and HEAT and LIGHT
-
I have water , food and clothes
-
rather too many clothes if a certain Vixdad's opinion is asked
-
I have cars with gasoline in them
-
I have a job
-
Vixdad has a job
-
The Vixter has a job
-
Hello. Now I want tater tot casserole, too.
-
I have lovely friends , not a few of which I met through this here site
-
tater tots have never been a weakness of mine
-
We should all remember to count our blessings, Vixmom. I'm glad you are ok.
-
DR Laura, I think there will be a number of people from this site buying tater tots tomorrow, lol
-
Is smashing pickles such a formal occasion that one must wear shoes?
-
Or does one smash pickles by stomping on them?
-
We should all remember to count our blessings, Vixmom. I'm glad you are ok.
Agreed on both counts. I was very relieved when I heard you were ok, Vixmom
-
Is Smashing Pickles a new rock group?
-
I didn't smash my pickles today, but I did eat them
-
Is smashing pickles a Election Eve celebratory tradition?
-
Inquiring minds want to know
-
Thank you Laura and Cilla - I am lucky to have friends like you
-
It is our Sandra's Guy Fawkes celebration. And she uses a hammer. I always want shoes on when she's smashing things with a hammer.

steel toes shoes I hope
-
DR Laura, do your shoes have steel toes?
-
LOL, Vixmom, we're thinking the same thing
-
Gosh I forgot it was Guy Fawkes Day - Vixdad usually mentions it - he must have forgotten to remember the Fifth of November!
-
;D
LOL, Vixmom, we're thinking the same thing
;D
-
I just try to stay far away.
-
Would love to stay and chat, but I need to get some sleep. I didn't get my brief written tonight. It's not due until Wednesday, so I'll probably do it while I watch election returns tomorrow night
-
Night Laura, Night Vixmom, sleep well
-
Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
the Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent to blow up King and Parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below to prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s mercy he was catch’d with a dark lantern and lighted match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!
Hip hip hoorah!
-
to add to my Blessings list Cilla just gifted me with her Mystery of Edwin Drood ticket since she cancelled her December trip
thank you CILLA!
-
Well it is already Election Day here -- time to get to sleep so I can get up early
you know what they say - Vote early and often!! LOL
-
Good night all!
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
It's after midnight...which means Happy Election Day (even though it's not the new HHW day)!
-
At work tomorrow, we're going to have a potato potluck. We've been doing it every presidential election (and even some non-presidential elections), ever since then-vice-president Dan Quayle incorrectly "corrected" a kid's spelling of "potato" and said that it was "potatoe."
-
And now, I'm off to bed. I'm still not quite adjusted to non-Daylight Saving Time.
Good night, all.
