Well, you've read the notes, the notes looked a lot like Christmas, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: HAGIOGRAHPY!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Priscilla, hope the robe fits when it comes.
-
Bruce, hope the project work out for Kritzerland.
-
Happy Day to Chas!!!
-
We put our tree up yesterday and today we will finish the other decorations.
-
It will be a quiet lead up to Christmas. We have a party on Monday, dinner with friends on Wednesday and then another party next Saturday, the 22nd. It's in New Jersey and it's Anthony's cousins. It should be fun. After that, on the 23rd we will head to Long Island for a few days. The time in between will be spent relaxing and doing as little as possible.
We do have friends in England who are in New York. We haven't heard from them yet so we don't know when we will get together. Since their cell phones don't work here they will rely on e-mail to contact us. I don't know if the hotel where they are staying has a phone. Lots of hotels have reduced their phone systems to just in-house since so many people have cells. Oh, well, we will hear from them when we hear from them.
Time for breakfast and then I have to go to the greenmarket for a few things.
-
Continued vibes for MR BK and Kritzerland.
Robe-wearing vibes for DR CILLA LIZ.

good morn to all

Today I will be working......oh well.
-
Good morning, all! I am off to the Post Office to send out these packages.
Nothing much to report at the moment.
That was a nice review for Sandy's album, BK!
-
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday To Our DR ChasSmith !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Happy Birthday to DR ChasSmith!
-
And I am off to work. Everyone have a great Saturday!
-
I got to the post office at 68th Street around 8:05: 2 automated machines down, only one working. In between my 15 packages, I let two customers with 1-2 packages jump in. At 8:30 the postal service man showed up and got all three running. I was finished up around 8:45 and here I am.
I'll begin the laundry that I couldn't do yesterday. Much as I was frustrated by the late Fed Ex and all of the upgrading mess, I really like having Mac OS10.6.8!
-
Good morning. More rain overnight.
-
Happy Happy Birthday, DR ChasSmith!
We will be waiting for a dessert report.
-
Saturday morning greetings! Richard and I had a delightful Friday evening in Dayton. We had some shopping (well, returning) errands, one of which was successful and one not. The successful one involved Land's End and Sears and the unsuccessful one confirmed my dislike for the Walmart/Sam's Club empire. Dinner at Red Lobster and then OLIVER by the Human Race Theatre Company. More about that in another post...
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR ChasSmith!
-
Today I have to grocery shop and get my holiday baking lined up for next week. Also have to visit the craft show at the senior center, but I'll wait until after 2pm to avoid all the kids who'll be there for brunch with Santa.
-
OLIVER was very well done, using a very interesting concept. It's set in a pub where the denizens have just gotten ahold of the latest installment of Dickens' novel and they act out the story. The only accompaniment is the pub piano, played by the music director who also acts and sings. Oliver is the only child and the MD and Nancy are the only women in the cast. It sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does.
-
Before the performance, the Human Race development director made some introductions and an announcement that after the show 2 of the actors would be collecting for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. When I put my contribution in Mr. Browlow's hat I told him it was in honor of our New York friend who is such a dedicated volunteer for that organization.
-
Robe vibes for DR Cillaliz!
-
My favorite in last night's cast was Gary Troy, who played Fagin (and others).
-
I have begun the laundry. My life is too, too exciting.
DR Ginny, I'm glad you enjoyed the show. Around 1971, I was on the costume crew for a summer theatre production of OLIVER! It was a good production. I was also the baby sitter backstage for the boys. It was a nightmare.
-
DR Elmore, it was a little jarring at the beginning to hear "Food, Glorious Food" in adult voices.
-
Happy Birthday to DR ChasSmith!
-
Happy Birthday, ChasSmith!
A bit of trivia: You share your natal day with the great Karen Morrow.
-
Happy Birthday, Charles!
-
Good morning, all.
Actually got close to 8 hours of sleep, which was great.
Too many things to do today, many of them to get ready for the Christmas party tonight. But Im watching the last half-hour of "The Merry Gentleman" before I leave. Not a great movie, but I find the performances of Michael Keaton, Kelly MacDonald and Bobby Canavale really compelling.
-
TOD:
I assume you are talking about live theatre.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I don't think we went to the theatre this year.
:-[
-
TOD: I don't think I went to the theater too often in 2012, which is a shame. I saw a game performance of a woman playing Ann Landers in a solo show.
I also several discs of bootleg performances. I think my favorites were of Reba and Brent in "Annie Get Your Gun" and the Papermill Playhouse production of "Follies."
-
We're awaiting the arrival of the dog (a 3 year old lab mix) we are thinking of adopting.
We met him last Saturday, and his current owners are going to leave him with us for a few hours today to see how we all get along.
Fingers crossed.
-

Ginny, thanks so much for the kind words. That's quite wonderful. BCEFA does a lot of good work and I'm happy that I can help in the effort.
-
TOD:
ONCE: THE MUSICAL
PIPE DREAM (City Center Encores)
MAN WITH A LOAD OF MISCHIEF (York Theatre)
THE GHOSTS OF VERSAILLES (Manhattan School of Music)
THAÏS (Manhattan School of Music)
I would swear I saw more than that! I liked the other two Encores! productions but I think the Sondhein-Firth MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is a problematic work and their GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES had everything but a good Lorelei Lee. Ialso liked LYSISTRATA JONES,another flawed piece, but very funny.
-
TOD - my favorite theatre experiences this year took place in Washington, DC. Arena's MUSIC MAN was a delight and DR Jose was an extremely gracious host both before and after the performance. Two days after that we saw the rootin', tootin' Wild West version of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW at the Folger Shakespeare Library, which was great.
Then there's ONCE and HARVEY on Broadway, PORGY AND BESS in Cincinnati, and JERSEY BOYS and OLIVER in Dayton - it's been a good year for a theatre goer who lives in the middle of nowhere...
-
And the laundry is in the dryers and the floors are mopped. Too, too exciting!
-

It's the least I could do, DR Ben. I so admire what you do with your December vacation.

Happy happy day to Chas!!!!

Happy Birthday to DR Chas Smith!!!!

Robe-wearing vibes to Cilla!
-
Happy Birthday, ChasSmith! May you have many happy returns of this day!
-
I'm up and will soon be on my way so she of the Evil Eye can do her thing.
-
Good (late, very late) morning, all.
On this, my very special day, I had to get up early and go out to have the snow tires put on. (Oy.)
-
And believe you me, I said a good Oy as I got up for it.
-
More TOD (sort of) - my first theatre opportunities of 2013 will be in London. Any advice?

Christmas Visit in South Carolina, part 1:

Thursday, I arose at 6:15 a.m., made coffee and retrieved the morning paper from the mailbox. It had rained since my arrival and the rain seemed to have move on along, but it remained overcast and "damp". At 8:30 a.m. we embarked on our annual trip to place flowers on the graves of my maternal grandparents and great grandparents.. Our first stop was to visit with our cousin Dot who has been in hospital aboug 5 times this past year. Dot is in her late 80s but she is a determined spirit. Her daughter Karen is taking care of her and staying over with her, leaving her husband to his own self-maintenance. The very odd thing is that her husband was diagnosed with double-pneumonia and is taking care of himself, for the most part, including preparation of his own food. Karen does what she can for both but she and her husand live across town from her mother and the stress must be intense.
Dot was up for a good meal and we all went to Wade's in Spartanburg. Dot had planned ahead and knew that on Thursday's, Wade's serves up its very delicious turkey and dressing as one of the menu items. (If we had gone on Friday, we could have gotten dressing, but not turkey!). After we said our farewells (and it was obvious to us all that Dot thought it might be the last time wo would see one another on this earth), my mother and Aunt Doris and I went to the cemetery and placed poinsettias on the graves.
We then set out to the West Gate Shopping Center where, unbeknownst to me, a shopping-for-Ron event was scheduled. I had not expected to do this kind of "shopping spree" until later in my visit. The end result was a couple of really pretty shirts, a new belt, a pair of shoes and some wonderful Christmas socks! These will be duly wrapped and placed under the tree.
After all of that, we started on our return trip which wold detour us toward Whitmire SC where my cousin Rick has his dental practice (for 32 years, the only dentist in town!). We were going to be treated to dinner at Rick's and Susan's (his wife) and it was a real treat for me as I have seldom visited him at his home and looked forward to it. Three of his four children (from a previous marriage) were going to be there, as well as his granddaughter. They have a beautiful house, inside and out, on extensive grounds (not as big a deal here in SC as it would be in California, believe me), but the house is on 24 acres of really nice property surrounded by a state forest on three sides. The evening was a delight and the dinner was excellent -- Rick grilled large, thick rib-eyes, and I had a meal I just "could" finish. The evening was very pleasant and I really enjoy talking with Susan who is very cultured/well-travelled (and is doing her best to expose Rick to the world).
Alas, all good things must end and we said her goodbyes and began our trek home. We got home at about 10 p.m., and once again, it was time to fall into bed and recover from the toils of the day.
Yesterday was a stay-at-home day. I spent my morning decorating our Christmas tree and then putting the remaining decorations away. It took a couple of hours (I'd sit and ponder each stage of the process...the lights, the ornaments and, then, the icicles). I also knew I had to get busy catching up online. All of my efforts to log onto Facebook and my e-mail were thwarted. "Suddenly", neither would recognize my cell phone (android) which I'd used constantly over the past year to check both locations. Additionally, when I attempted to log-on using my mom's computer, I got the same result. BECAUSE of my attempt to log in using my smart phone, my on-line (PC) attempts were thwarted. Only this morning was I able to start breaking through the barriers that are Facebook and Yahoo security (and believe me, those two concepts are mind-boggling...with questions they say you've provided answers for in the event of such a thing and yet they asked me questions I'd never have selected to provide answers for!!).
Oh, well...the rest of this day should be peaceful.

DR Ginny, I'm not a huge fan of OLIVER -- I like it, but it's far from being one of my favorite musicals -- but that one actually sounds very interesting and I'd happily go see it if I could.

The concept was interesting, DR ChasSmith, but I think the script needs to clarify the "reenacting" element. If I hadn't read so much about the production ahead of time I'm not sure I'd have known what was going on. When it was over, my husband asked my why they were walking around with scripts and I had to explain that they were the installment that had just been released and passed around the pub.

We have decided to take the dog, but not until just after the first of the year.
He has not been around cats, but since we don't have one at the moment, we will deal with that in the future.

My favorite theatre experience of 2012 was probably WICKED (the tour), which I really loved.
Also MARY POPPINS, since my niece loved it so much.

Nice reading about the first part of your trip DR RonP!

As most of you know, I really do not like change. But sometimes change happens or is necessary and it has happened today with Kritzerland. I'm not at all sure what this change will ultimately mean, but there are only two ways to look at these kinds of things - positively and negatively and as anyone who knows me knows, I will always opt for the positive, accentuate the positive and never ever go with the negative. In the short term, in terms of the next five weeks, the change will be very, very helpful. After that, it could get scary, but I'm thinking it won't. It's actually just going back to the way in which we did things three years ago, and ultimately, as long as we do titles that people are interested in, probably everything will be fine. But it's making me look at certain things in new ways and that's a good thing.

That's great. You aren't getting a breed known for killing cats if not brought up with them so you should be fine if you don't get a cat that is overly frightened of dogs.
-
Originally I thought that I would have to work so we had thought that we would have been getting in just in time for the show --- it was only Thursday that we discovered that I could get Friday off and since we had a bunch of errands and stuff we were still not sure when we would be going in ---
we ended up getting in by 3 PM and had a few hours to enjoy New York at Christmas unfortunately it was too last minute to get together foe dinner with any of our NY DRs --- i hope we can get together sometime in the new year -- I miss youze guy!!

Today I went back to the Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA and saw "The Holiday Guys," with Marc Kudisch and Jeffry Denman. It was very enjoyable. They sang most unusual versions of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman" and "Holly Jolly Christmas" as well as a song new to me "Lonely Jew at Christmas," which was hilarious.
I would highly recommend the show to our New Yorkers--the show is headed there in a few days.
-
When I bought the tickets I saw that the seats were the furthest to the left -- so I was not expecting a great view - I was pleasantly surprised ti find that we were two rows from the stage and that the row in front of us was staggered so that no one was actually in front of us
It was almost as if the show was being put on privately for us
As we sat down the Vixter said "How much WERE these tickets?!!!!"
So I replied " You know that inheritance you were counting on...?"
The usher (Judith) cracked up --- we ended up chatting with her all throughout intermission

VIBRAPHONES and XYLOPHONES for change that is GOOD.

You know the way I look at it - the changes have to be for the good. That's all there is to it. Frankly, it was just too difficult doing things the way we've done them for the past three years - while it did afford a certain comfort zone, the price of that comfort zone was too high in terms of being able to stay current on everything - I needed that to change and it has - that part will obviously be much better. The comfort zone is what's gone away, but that's the way it was up until three years ago and it all worked out fine then and I'm sure it will now.

I need to stop reading about these brave teachers, hits too close to home for me.
Here, too, DR Jane! Richard was an elementary teacher, then principal, then teacher. He was remembering yesterday that the building where he was principal had 24 doors to the outside - a security nightmare!
-
Thanks to all for the vibes. I was reminded today that the slate of applicants is unusually strong. So, that means I've got to really have a good interview to make the top three. I appreciate the vibes
GREAT, FANTASTIC, KNOCK THEIR SOCKS OFF INTERVIEW VIBES!!!!!

It really got to me looking at the photo of the young teacher, younger than Craig, who died while protecting her children. These teachers were all so brave & I know he would have done the same. I pray this never happens again.

The school did have some security & the shooter forced his way in. How he did so I don't know.
-
At least this high school shooting was prevented. http://news.yahoo.com/okla-teen-arrested-school-shooting-plot-184243533.html

I know - I suspect their worries were more to do with non custodial parents - I am sure this is nothing they ever expected

DR Druxy, I had a mixed lab for many years and she was a very good dog. I would recommend lab mixes in general. I hope this works out for you.

Nice reviews for THIS CHRISTMAS. The more I listen to it the more impressed I am.
-
I truly loathe the media and I really have to not look at Facebook, where even some of my friends are so disgustingly "outraged" it makes me want to vomit on the ground. They just don't see it, I guess, how it's all about THEM. This is NOT about them or their beliefs or anything else. This is about a horrible tragedy so yes mourn but shut the damn hell up on a public place like Facebook - or post one line and then go do something constructive.
-
DR Elmore, what is it you like so much about 10.6.8? I need to upgrade soon.

No one could expect this. I just wish they would stop saying his name in the news so as not to encourage someone else.

Vibes to Cillaliz. All this talk about robes doesn't seem right without Miss Karen.
-
I, too, enjoy DR Ron's holiday stories. Will we have some photos again this year, Ron?
-
How are you doing, TCB?

Yes, that's true, DR Cillaliz. Each classroom has an exit to the outside.

So do I...

I tried watching the new film of Anna Karinina but had to shut it off. Just a little too Baz Luhrman for me. Tried to watch the film of Persuasion - just a little too boring for me. But both films are perfect to put you to sleep so I've gotten about forty minutes of napping in. May watch a little of The Master now, just to see if a second helping is better than the first.
-
Vibes to BK and Kritzerland for the upcoming change.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ChasSmith
Thank you, DR Cillaliz!

Watched about thirty minutes of The Master - it's better at home, but I can't get past the self-indulgent performance of its leading man (and I don't mean Mr. Hoffman) - it's just the kind of "acting" I cannot stand - I'm sure he believed it all and was intense to work with and I'm sure his fellow actors loved it all and I'm sure it appeals to some people - but not to me. Now I'm listening to a new master.
-
Had a great day today. My sister and brother in law were at my parents' house, so I drove up for the day. Adam, Sundee and Gabe were also in town so we had a brunch with most of the family. It was nice to see everyone. I was there from about 9 until 3:30 or so and then came home. It really was a nice day
-
But, to get there at 9, I had to leave here at 7, so I'm getting very sleepy.
-
I've also got a horrendous stomach ache. I hope I can sleep
-
I haven't seen very many movies this year. Amazing the difference last years free pass made
-
Page 6, my job is done here
-
We have to be at church in 6 hours - the Vixter is the assisting minister and I am on Altar Guild
goodnight
-
Oh I got my new specs today --- Ilike 'em!!
-
Just sitting here like so much fish.
-
Fish is what I'm sitting here like.
-
Giving a second listen to the new master - I think I'm doing one little twenty-second lift.
-
One Twenty-Second Lift - that's the title of my next novel.
-
And speaking of my next novel, I rewrote the opening two paragraphs, which are now to my liking - I am starting the book in the location I'd first thought of - where it goes from there and how I tie it all together is anyone's guess. I'll discover that shortly, I presume.
-
In the last week our GUESTS have dwindled down by about thirty - perhaps all the spambots are taking a vacation or perhaps people like the twit have gone elsewhere.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR ChasSmith!! ;D
A bit late, but there it is. :)

Today, we had a very good performance of "The Wind in the Willow" and the audience certainly enjoyed it. After that, I came home and watched a bit of TV before I had to head downtown to work concessions for a local ballet company's production of "The Nutcracker." It was pretty busy during both the pre-show (which is unusual) and the intermission (which is normal). The Washington Center is now able to take credit and debit cards at/for concessions, and since that has to happen on iPads, that slows things down a bit...especially when the card doesn't read properly when swiped and the info has to be entered manually, but we got through it.
-
Topic of the Day: one of the highlights was being involved in a local production of "Goodnight Moon." I ran the sound for that (the same as what I'm doing right now for "The Wind in the Willows") and the show and performers were an absolute delight. It was so sweet and lovely. I never got tired of watching it.
-
If you count theater on TV, the recent concert version of Company was definitely a highlight, as well as the Met's broadcasts of "Satyagraha" and the "Ring" cycle. :D
-
How could I forget running the slide show and sound effects for TAO's production of "Titus Andronicus"?? That was some great theater.

My favorite theatre experience of 2012 was probably WICKED (the tour), which I really loved.
Also MARY POPPINS, since my niece loved it so much.
Oh, yeah! I saw Wicked in Seattle again this year. It was still very good!

BK, good luck with whatever is happening with Kritzerland!!
