Title: THE NOTES THAT HAD NOTHING TO SAY
Post by: bk on January 12, 2013, 12:03:49 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes said nothing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they have nothing to say either, and yet they keep saying MOO.  Go know.

Wow, bad has a whole new definition.

I'm also surprised at who was in the movie. Gary Sandy, Fannie Flagg, Rue McClanahan, Carleton Carpenter (in a wordless role) and Candy Darling

And Mr. Buck Rodgers himself  Gil Gerard, Peg Murray (Tony winner for Cabaret original cast) and Sylvia Syms.

I think at the time they wanted to make a "daring" film with gay characters a la "The Boys In the Band" (The year was 1971) And just like "Boys" it doesn't hold up as well. Gay characters in fiction as moved past these stereotypes

I actually saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel on dvd a couple of months ago.  I'm guessing that is one reason it was not nominated for anything. Came out quite a while ago and then went to dvd so quickly.

While I think the performances were good (those actors are amazing) the movie wasn't really my cup of tea.  The setting was fine. But the movie itself was very odd.

For some reason today's TOD reminded me that I saw Betty Buckley on this week's Pretty Little Liars. She is playing one of the girls grandmothers and got to sing. Not sure why but i was really surprised when I saw her.

Good morning, all! The noisy oafs above me are trying hard to keep the noise down late at night, so they crept in after midnight, quietly puttered around, then some idiot slammed the apartment door and that woke me with a jolt.  I'm on my first cup of coffee and pondering the day.

I will head to my pharmacy around 11  and pick up my monthly meds before the trek to Toyland. Today is an edit Jerome Moross day. Then I'm meeting Rob Berman at 5pm for dinner.

I'll work a bit on my DEAREST ENEMY notes before I leave.

More coffee!

According to legend:

Without the help of 20th Century Fox, producer Robert Fryer mounted his own Oscar publicity campaign on behalf of Maggie Smith to get her a nomination for THE PRIME OF MISS JEAN BRODIE, which was not a financial success.

When he was successful in his effort,  the people at Fox called him onto the carpet and balled him out because they felt that Maggie Smith took the Best Actress nomination slot that should have gone to Barbra Streisand for HELLO, DOLLY!

I wonder if they apologized after Smith won.

So, I'll be on my way somewhere and return right after noon, at which point I will finesse, futz, and fix and then write some new pages.  I was going to bring the laptop with me and do some of that in the restaurant, but then I'd have to send that document back to myself and cut and paste and all that stuff into the real document.

Back from various and sundried.  My motor car has been difficult to start this week, and this morning it almost didn't start at all - I've been attributing this to how cold the garage is in the morning, but alas, I took the motor car to the local 76 station and it did need a new battery.  I actually replaced the battery just over a year ago, for which I was reimbursed by the Infiniti dealer.  Rather than try to find the Triple AAA receipt I just got a new one - of course, I found the receipt immediately and of course it was under warranty (the old one) but you can only get the same exact battery over again, and that I did not feel the need to do - and since last year's didn't cost me anything, it's fine.  The new one is under warranty for two years.

The Vixter went into NYC to Sloan Kettering  today with some friends to donate blood for a 13 year old with a blood cancer (I am not sure  of the correct name  of the disease - not leukemia)  they  won't take mine  because of the radioactivity that was injected into me last Friday and they won't take Vixdad's because he is suspected of having Mad Cow disease by virtue of have lived in England prior to 1986

I never thought of Mad Cow disease as being an issue.  I guess they can't check for it.  What about anyone that has traveled in England prior to 1986.

You mean a side order of bacon? I usually sit down to a whole slab.

it was half a side order   I only wanted two slices instead of 4

I'm sorry, I don't understand.  Could someone please explain the following concepts to me?

"half a side order"
"only wanted two slices"

I just can't seem to wrap my brain around those things...

Taking advantage of a strong wi-fi connection, which is very rare in this hotel.

I've written a little over ten pages so far.  Now I'm off to a birthday party at which there will be lots of film music types.  I'm meeting Nick Redman and his ever-lovin' Julie and our plan is to show up right on time at seven and escape promptly at seven-thirty, at which point we'll go down the street and have Thai food.  Then I'll come home and write a couple more pages to almost finish the chapter I'm on.

Rob and I talked about recording ROBERTA, and he directed me to this:

I'd never seen it, and it's brilliant.
Yes, it is.

I had a half order of the Swedish crepes and a half side of bacon...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Translator! Please, we need help.

I just watched for the first time - I cannot believe that! - IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER. It was quite moving, but what wa sthat strange dress Delores Gray wore for the broadcast? It looked like a demented tutu with a train.  I loved Gray. No one plays egocentric as well as she.
Everything about her character was strange, which made her so watchable.

I never wanted to believe the stories about how egomaniacal and depressive Gene Kelly was, but apparently he was in full armor for that one. Even had Michael Kidd's really fun dance with the kids cut because he felt it upstaged him.

Still, there are scenes in that movie -- the three soldiers' dance at the beginning, the dance on roller skates, Cyd Charisse in the ring -- that I really enjoy.

I just found out Sharon got to go home today!!! Woo and Hoo!  She went to the hospital the end of September and tonight she's home in her own bed.  She sent me a message on FB to let me know and I just got it

I am home.  I was at the birthday party for only thirty minutes, but there was some classic comedy going on there between me and a Korean woman - it was like Abbott and Costello and I'll talk about it in the notes.

Then Nick, Julie and I went to a Thai restaurant that Nick loves.  Their portions are fairly small, so I ordered three things: A salad with peanut dressing, pad Thai, and a cashew chicken dish, all extremely yummilicious.  For dessert we all shared Thai custard and a tiny scoop of coconut ice cream.  The conversation was sparkling and a good time was had by all.  Then I came home, opened the garage door only to see that it stopped halfway up.  I pushed the button and it closed and thank goodness it did because it now won't go up OR down - had I gotten the car in there, that would have been a bit of a deesaster.  I don't like leaving the car parked on the street, but will have to until I can get someone here to see why it's suddenly not working.  If I push the button I can hear the motor working, but nothing happens.  I tried opening it by hand, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

Yikes!  Mine has an unlatching rope thingy you pull, then I turn the handle on the door and it frees itself and up she goes.

Well, I had a wonderful day sitting on my arse.  But not doing nothing.  I just finished MURDER AT HOLLYWOOD HIGH.  It's wonderful, and was the perfect read for this very day.  I look forward to the others.

But there's a very special treat for Yrs Truly in this one.  An L.A. favorite that I don't believe I've mentioned here yet.  I stopped there in October and it was as incredibly good as ever.  The burger was IDENTICAL to the way it had always been for me, as far back as the late '80s.  We're talking nearly a quarter of a century later here, and that's a stunning occurrence as these things go.

I KID YOU NOT:  In the middle of the book, when Adriana decides to treat herself to one of her favorite things, the direction she starts heading in made me think of exactly this place, because that's the kind of treat it represents for me.  Then I thought, no way.  There are hundreds of places or things this could be.  And then, a few lines later, there it was...dots connected....

Sadly, Extremely E and T DR Jhvw went outside today and found their 13 year old dog Bella had died.  She was at the end of the driveway, he wasn't sure if she was hit by a  car (very quiet residential area) or if she had died from health problems, but it was a shock.  They are all very sad.  Unfortunatley one of Jon's friends posted it on FB before his two brothers had been told about it.  Fortunately I saw it and called with my condolences and he was able to get it taken of FB before the brothers saw it.

My deepest sympathies to the whole family.  What a shock.

There is a rope dangling, maybe I'll try that.

Well, I need to go to work for a couple of hours.  I need to see if everything is still okay after yesterday's fiscal year rollover.  If there are any problems, I don't want to have to wait until Monday to find out.  I'm sure that it's all fine, but I just want to make sure. :)

Have a good day, all!

Electronic invoices looked good!  It really seems to have worked.

Just purchased the new German (in English) recording of "Sweeney Todd" and "Eileen" from iTunes.
Am on disc two of "Eileen" right now. Post what you think of the "Sweeney."

Umm...I thought that it was okay.  I'd read that it was an opera company's concert and there are lyric mistakes every once in a while on the recording. :-\

Already have played an anniversary service at church and have got the slides in order for the weekend.  Punch some guitar picks out of used iTunes gift cards (best Christmas gift EVER) and now trying to catch up and figure out how to make this office into bedroom.  I think it might be impossible, or take weeks and months.
Used iTunes gift cards are the best Christmas gift EVER? Would you accept some other used gift cards?  ;D

The Pick Punch (http://www.pickpunch.com/) was the best gift ever!!!

Cool.

That is pretty cool.  My sister's boyfriend plays the guitar.  I wonder if he'd like something like that.

After work, I went to Fred Meyer to get a new Ethernet cable (the one that I have now has a broken clip, so one end won't stay in my cable modem).

While I was there, I decided to get a mini-to-regular HDMI cable.  I can now hook up my tablet/netpad to my big screen TV!  I really have no need to do that, but it really does look pretty cool. :D

I also got a set of styluses (styli?).  I have the one that came with the netpad, but I lost the extra one that came with the netpad keyboard case.  There were six in the pack and now if I lose one, I'll have several extras.

Actually i am kinda proud of the kid -  she was supposed to go to a party  and she has an aversion to needles and she cancelled out of the party to go give blood  (also proud of the friend that was completely understanding about why Vixter  was cancelling)

That's great.  My niece has donated blood...she's a universal donor.

I'm not allowed to donate blood. (http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/06/health/gay-men-blood-ban/index.html)
