Well, you've read the notes, the notes were a la carte, and now it is time for you to post until the a la carte cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: CANTANKEROUS!
-
ChasSmith, if you enjoyed your second Hofstetter book, do write a review for amazon.

Morning all.
That is all.

We did get snow in Manhattan. I'm not sure how much, the paper is inconclusive and talks more about LI and New England than Manhattan. We got maybe 4 or 5 inches. The paper said 8 inches in Central Park but it's not that much in Chelsea.
As Vixmom said, they got lots and lots of snow on Long Island. Anthony's mother said they have about 2 feet of snow and it's worse in Connecticut and the rest of New England.
We have power and food and television and the rest of The Grand to watch so we will be fine.
-
It's daylight so I looked out the window. I revise my estimate. I think we got maybe 3 or 4 inches of snow in Lower Manhattan. There is definitely more snow in other places but we didn't get hit so hard.

Oatmeal, pecans, raisins, a banana, cinnamon and coffee.

Good morning from Miami! Thanks for the travel vibes yesterday. I got here without a problem. My friend from Buffalo had no trouble-he had a non-stop flight to Ft. Laudedale.
The bride and groom to be and 9 others were on the flight through LaGuardia. Thankfully, they made it out on time. My nephew said they were on the last flight out!
One of their friends couldn't get out of Buffalo (flight cancelled) and is going to fly to Jamaica and meet the ship on Monday. The wedding is on Tuesday.
We leave for the ship at 12;30 and it leaves the port at 4:30.
-
Great news Kevin.
By the time you get back Nemo will be a memory.

Good morning, all.
Holy ..... moley ..... is about all I have to say.
Very very fortunate here, with no power outage and just a world o' white to start cleaning up. All roads in Connecticut remain closed. All roads. That's a pretty mindboggling concept when you think about it.
Anyhoo ... all is well here, and I hope it is likewise for all DRs.

Good morning, all! I love snow days in Manhattan. The City is never this quiet. At one point I heard a shovel scraping on concrete.
Around 3am, I was having a restless period that lasted several hours, nodding in and out of sleep with dreams about an endless walk around Middletown, Ohio; I was heading for home but I never reached it. Hmmm . . .
So, I may go out for a a bit and enjoy the cold and the precipitation, but most of my day will be involved with my income taxes.
-
Good Morning! Glad to see our East Coast friends checking in. I love snow days. Haven't had one for a couple years. We're supposed to have rain and thunderstorms today and tomorrow, maybe less than an inch of snow tomorrow night and Monday. Oh well
-
Off to breakfast then to work for awhile. I may just bring the work home so I can do laundry, REALLY need to do that

Okay, will be E&T for a while.

Good morning, all.

We wound up with a little over a coating of snow in my neck of the woods. I won't even have to go out and shovel--the bright sun is doing a fine job in melting what is on the sidewalk, pathway, steps and car.

Looking over Mr. Simon's filmography, I realize that I have never once laid eyes on the film version of LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS.

Looking over Mr. Simon's filmography, I realize that I have never once laid eyes on the film version of LAST OF THE RED HOT LOVERS.
I have seen this at Big Lots recently, in case you want to own a copy. It wasn't my favorite of his films, though the performances were good.
-
I saw THE ARTIST for the first time on TV and in HD. I had my concerns about whether it had been overrated and whether I would enjoy a modern silent film but it is absolutely brilliant. A superb film in every way.

I'm up, and she of the Evil Eye is here. I shall shortly be on my way to the book fair.

From DR Vixmom:
Vixdad received The Prisoner on DVD as a Christmas gift - we showed the first episode to the Vixter this evening - she was underwhelmed
This fan here still had to laugh. Maybe she needs to watch THE SECRET AGENT MAN before she can appreciate THE PRISONER.
-
Nice photos DR John G.

From DR TCB:
That is because she is not a 1960's stoned hippie.
Neither were Keith and I but we both loved the show, except for the last episode.

Yup. Still waiting for DR Vixmom. I don't have a text message on my phone which is good.

How did you get a picture of my front door?
-
We never lost power so we all had a lovely sleep in
-
then I made breakfast - poached eggs sausages and whole wheat toast forVixdad
and I broke out the new belgian waffle maker and made waffles for the Vixter and myself (VIxdad is not a waffle or pancake fan)
-
And since I bought a large container each of fresh strawberries and blueberries at BJ's the other day I had some lovely sliced strawberries and blueberries
-
and we had 2 large pots of tea between the two of us
-
Sounds like some great cocooning DR Vixmom!
-
DR Kevin H that is great that all but one person made it on their flights. Especially glad that the bride and groom made it!
-
Vixter spend about an hour outside trying to get a path cleared to the garage door (we have no indoor access to our garage) and then Visdad wnet out to pull out the snowblower and clear the rest away He has been out for about 2 hours now
-
That pic is crazy of the snow covering the door.

I've finished the laundry, and tallied my taxi and subwayreceipts and my movie and theatre ticket receipts. I'm about to work on the last huge four groups.
-
What the hell?
-
Neighbor plowed, and I snowblew for at least two hours. The killer is the wind today, causing lots of drifting snow where you've already cleaned, and plenty of frosty windburn. We could get out now, but there's no place to go and they don't want people on the roads.
USPS cancelled mail delivery in all six New England states. Danbury, where I live, got an average of 20 inches, and I measured close to that in my driveway. I can post a few pictures eventually.
-
That pic is crazy of the snow covering the door.
Too crazy. Keep it far from me.
-
DRvixmom, I hate this cinemascope, and all i get from that endless URL is an article about a kid dying of carbon monoxide. What gives? I will read no more posts, nor post any more, until we are on Page 4.
-
We wound up with a little over a coating of snow in my neck of the woods. I won't even have to go out and shovel--the bright sun is doing a fine job in melting what is on the sidewalk, pathway, steps and car.
Would that be The Royal We, Dan?
-
Back from a sparsely attended book fair. More dealers than usual at the Santa Monica venue, and, as always, some very pretty books along with some very outrageous prices.
-
I had nice conversations with several dealers.
-
But, DR Elmore, not posting won't help us get to page 4!
-
I have spent the afternoon listening to an audiobook and working on a small knitting project that's part of Mary Linda's birthday present. Her birthday is Monday, but we're not seeing them until next Saturday to celebrate, so I have plenty of time to finish it.
-
But, DR Elmore, not posting won't help us get to page 4!

DR elmore I just shrunk my entire page. The print is small but at least I'm not in cinemascope.

I had a great swim today. I now swim for an hour, much better than the 30 minutes I could barely do when I first began swimming. Back then they wouldn't even let me in the swim lanes.
I got lucky. I was sneaking into the single lane as the woman previously in it was getting out. A man walked up to get in at the same time. I've learned etiquette says he gets the lane, not me at the other end of the pool so I quickly moved back to the middle lane I was sharing with two other people. The man kindly gave me the single lane.
It was extra nice to have my own lane as one of the swimmers kept passing me. I like to do stretches in the shallow end and tread water plus exercised in the deep end. It is easier to go at my own pace when I'm alone or sharing a lane with swimmers that move a bit closer to my speed.
-
Well, we are half way to page four.
-
Was it that e-mail address that put elmore into cinemascope?
-
This shouldn't be too hard if we all pitch in and post.
-
I should be able to ramble for another ten posts.
-
I believe we have had exactly one day of snow flurries this winter.
-
We aren't out of the woods yet, but it seems less and less likely.
-
Dr Ginny, and DR Jane, feel free to jump in anytime!
-
I wish that DR Danise would drop in one of these days and report how she is doing.
-
It still makes me mad that nothing has happened about her house.
-
I really thought that Anderson Cooper was our great hope.
-
Well, actually Anderson Cooper remains my great hope; but that has nothing to do with Danise.
-
We are having a dull weekend here in the Northwest. No rain, but a heavy cloud cover, so that we have very little sunshine.
-
Just one more post.
-
Page 4
-
You are welcome, DR elmore.
-
Sorry I stepped away for a few minutes.
-
Job well done DR TCB!
-
Keith finished reading THE BOOKS OF RACHEL on his iPad using the Kindle app. I can't get the app on my Nook and Kindle has the only eBook option. Last night while Keith went to sleep I used his iPad. I should have read Les Miserable on his large iPad. It is so much easier to read on a full size screen than on my Nook. It is just big and heavy to carry around all the time but I'm really tempted now.
-
I don't enjoy reading two books at once but that is what I'm doing. When Keith is using the iPad I still have Rin Tin Tin to read on my Nook.
-
Sorry I stepped away for a few minutes.
So did I, to put dinner in the oven.
Great job getting us to page 4, DR TCB!
-
Oh, I also went to the front of the house to watch 2 horseback riders go up our street. We've lived here almost 25 years and that's a first!
-
OK, DR Elmore - it's safe to come back now!
-
I gotta tell you. Not much time to relax since I have to leave again in about thirty minutes.
-
Your welcome, ladies!
-
We used to have horses in this neighborhood. In fact, there used to be a riding academy near the entrance to Point Defiance.
-
Jane, is this RIN TIN TIN book you are reading actually about the dog?

Do you have more than one lane that is shared? One for fast, one for slower?
I'd recommend (if you get in the lanes with a faster swimmer) going right behind them. Let them go and then go behind them. When you've done two lengths wait until they come back again. And then go right behind them again. That way you will never have them passing you.

Good evening. I just woke up from a totally unplanned THREE HOUR NAP. Talk about being wiped out.
-
You are welcome, DR elmore.
I am grateful!
Those damned wide posts are impossible to read.
-
I think I will watch ANNA KARENINA tonight, either the Vivien Leigh film or the BBC adaptation with Helen McCrory. I am really enjoying the novel; Levin's about to propose to Kitty.
-
I still wonder what this cinemascope thing looks like. No such thing has happened to me on any computer or on the phone.

We have two lanes for multiple swimmers. If there are only two people using it we each take a side of the lane for our own space. Once a 3rd person joins in we circle.
I try to get behind the fast swimmers but then I'm still getting dictated by their actions. I like to set a different pace, depending what my shoulder needs when I get to the ends of the pool.
Our lanes aren't set up by speed which I can see why since there are so very many speeds people go at. I also don't turn my head out of the water to breathe so when I do the crawl my pace changes half way through the pool when I slow down to do switch to the breast stroke once I run out of air. I also like to do the last part of a lap without using my arms and exercise my legs by kicking very hard. I found since I concentrate so much on my shoulders I don't kick as hard as I used to and then need a bit of extra work.
This is all much easier when I have my own lane.
-
I still wonder what this cinemascope thing looks like. No such thing has happened to me on any computer or on the phone.
Sometimes not all of us go into cinemascope. You are lucky it hasn't happened.
-
Dr Chas I hope you can sleep tonight.

Dr Chas I hope you can sleep tonight.
:). I don't expect that to be any problem, DR Jane.

Much as I love Patricia Routledge, I cannot stand KEEPING UP APPEARANCES, which is on PBS at the moment. The character's too overbearing and too close for comfort to my social climbing Aunt Jean.
-

If I napped 3 hours I would be up all night, but then without a nap I might be anyway. I hope that isn't the case tonight. If it is I guess I'll finish the 2nd half of the 450 page book I began last night.
-
I tried to nap this afternoon, but my cough woke me up.
-
Too bad DR Ginny.
-
All this talk about not sleeping and suddenly I can barely keep my eyes open. Funny, I was wide awake and then withing minutes groggy as heck.

I am SO glad that I did not take the expressway home last night
I didn't realize you could have been in this photo. Thank goodness you were wise enough not to drive it.
Yes - I saw the entrance to the highway was backed up so I opted to take the side roads home although I was concerned at the time that they wouldn't be plowed - however all the side roads are in residential neighborhoods so I figured that worst case scenario if I was stuck I could beg for shelter from a home owner - those stuck on the expressway were stranded with no shelter for miles
-

I rarely go to the Saturday service unless I am scheduled to serve as an assisting minister - but it is a highly unusual occurrence for a service to be cancelled

Has anybody else been watching the American version House of Cards on Netflix?
-
I joined Netflix specifically to watch this series as I loved the British version that came out years ago
-
I am really enjoying it

Or even walk. In the winter I usually keep extra clothing in the trunk of my car. This year I've been bad & even go to the gym wearing shorts.
-
Has anybody else been watching the American version House of Cards on Netflix?
Not I.
-
I believe DR Jeanne is watching.
-
DR Jane wow no wonder it is easier when you have the lane to yourself. I definitely prefer having the lanes set up by speed. It makes it so much easier to me. Why do you not breathe to the side when you do front crawl? Oes it hurt your shoulder? I have never hear of anyone swimming front crawl without breathing to the side. I breathe on every stroke on my right side.
-
There are people who wear mask with a snorkel so they don't have to come up for air. Other people wear things on their hands and/or fins to increase their speed. Some wear the whole works. At first I swam as far as I could and came up gasping for air. Eventually I figured out it to switch my stroke so as not to have to stop, which of course one shouldn't do.
I can, finally, turn my head to breathe but the pain isn't worth it since it continues even after I'm done swimming. Constantly changing my strokes, and not going too fast, seems to work the best for me.
-
I also am a right stroke breather or I might be able to breath as I swim. I have never been good at doing the left side & figure it isn't worth it to try now.
-
'night

'Night!
-
Has anybody else been watching the American version House of Cards on Netflix?
Not I.
Today, my friend Margo and I saw a local production of Next To Normal (it was very good), and afterward we went to Panera where we ran into a couple of co-workers (they're married to each other). As we chatted, they mentioned that they've been watching "House of Cards" and have really enjoyed it. I've got it in my queue.

thank you!
I tried to change the internet address so it wouldn't put us into cinemascope, but I couldn't do it.

The way that photo is framed in blue, it looks like a picture of a bunch of Matchbox cars.

Or maybe I could use the internet address and put us back in cinemascope?

Has anybody else been watching the American version House of Cards on Netflix?
No. I cannot stand Kevin Spacey; I know too much to care about him as a person at all and that colors my opinion of his acting.

Hmmm, care to enlighten us? Well, actually just me.

I spent the night watching the first two hours of the BBC ANNA KARENINA:good cast, good screenplay, too much after dark indoor and outoor photography. I can't see a damned thing. I have no idea what was going on at the conclusion of the first half: domething about Anna's conviction she would die like her mother in childbirth, lots of cries for forgiveness, sounds of movement, and then it was bright enugh to see her husband try t shoot himself. What the hell? It's something to look forward to in the novel.
I love the secondary plot about Levin, who's the standin for Tolstoy, and Kitty.

I think I will watch ANNA KARENINA tonight, either the Vivien Leigh film or the BBC adaptation with Helen McCrory. I am really enjoying the novel; Levin's about to propose to Kitty.
Probably in my top three novels I've ever read.
Am enjoying "Middlemarch" very much right now.

Ah, but we must make an exception for "The Ref."

I fell asleep as well and snoozed the afternoon away
I did the same as you and ChasSmith.

Yes, but first we will have to wade thru all the trashy stuff about MBarnum and the fire escape before we get to Kevin Spacey. It is all alphabetical.

Okay, I found it. SPLASH is actually a new reality show on ABC. In reality (pardon the pun) it should be called DIVING WITH THE STARS, except half of the "stars" are people I have never heard of before.

Me, either. I've only seen a couple of commercials and I have no interest in watching this. :P

Tonight, I've watched the latest episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Suits." I'm now watching "Glee."
