Saturday morning greetings!  Sorry to be so E & T yesterday.  Had some major work to do on our 2 upstairs rooms because my cousin, his wife, and their son (age 9) and daughter (age 7) are on their way from Pittsburgh for an overnight visit.  They live in Japan and are in Pittsburgh visiting and tending to his elderly father.  They have him settled for now and the weather's clear.  We're very excited to see them!

Good morning, al!!

I need some sleep. Tomorrow, I can sleep in and I plan to.  Today, I have to be at City Center. Following that, my friend Alex is coming by at 4 for a visit. We'll catch up on the news and have dinner. I think I had promised him EILEEN, but I have no copies here. Oy!

So, before I leave for City Center, I have this apartment to tidy, and it's a real mess.

And I'm at the point where I can appreciate Brando in just about anything. However,
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
ON THE WATERFRONT
MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY

Prayers and vibes request for a good friend of mine from church. Her name is Dolores and she's in her late 80s. Absolutely wonderful lady with a sharp tongue, just when it's needed most, a fantastic pinochle player and she always has a free moment to help anyone in need. She apparently fell this morning when she went out to get her paper. It seems as though she has broken her hip and possibly her hand.

After reading through my liner notes for A Time for Singing in the booklet itself, I wasn't happy with the way they read.  I was trying to incorporate all the Shani Wallis stuff within the notes, but it was too schizo - so I restructured them and put all the Shani reminiscences into their own section - now we get all the show history by itself and then Shani's memories of it - much better.

I am home from seeing The Mystery of Edwin Drood, thanks to the kindly offer of a ticket from DR Cillaliz. I had seen the original production twice, so I didn't particularly plan on catching this one, but I am very glad I did. It was quite wonderful and a lot of fun. There were a large number of understudies tonight, so I didn't see Chita Rivera, Will Chase, or Peter Benson. but I saw three excellent performances by Alison Cimmet, Spencer Plachy, and my old friend Nick Corley, as well as my Finian, the wonderful Jim Norton, as the Chairman. Our Finian's Rainbow director Warren Carlisle choreographed this production quite nicely. The scenery was amazing, and I liked a lot of William Ivey Long's costues, except for some with out-of-control bustles that looked cheap and silly rather than period.

That's great!  :D

I am a posting this here because some people might know who Jason Graae is.

He was performing at Wisconsin Lutheran College and he was selling his css. One of the produced by BK was slightly censored. I think it would have made people more interested to see what was underneath.

Hilarious!

Ah, But Underneath (a Sondheim reference)

A song that Jason should sing.

From DR Druxy:

The Fort Wayne Civic Theater's travel agent just booked my plane reservations for May-June.

Getting there from Austin is not easy.

Actually getting just about anywhere from Austin is not easy.

On the way there, I go through Atlanta, then on the way back, I go through Detroit.

From DR John G:
Quote
San Antonio is the same. Almost always a detour on the way to where you want to go.

From DR Cilla:
Quote
Lol, try getting somewhere from Sioux City!!

From DR Laura:

Whenever we go to Fort Wayne, we fly to Indianapolis and rent a car.

Maybe we have it slightly better at our Medford airport.  We can fly to Portland, Seattle, San Francisco & Denver non stop.  Not a whole lot of other places.  There is, thank goodness, also a non-stop flight to Los Angeles but it leaves at 6:00am & gets me home at 11:45PM.

Have a nice visit.

DR Jane re: my sore shoulders. I have pulled my nieces before and they have not hurt. And this time I was pulling the lighter one.

I'm feeling a bit of something in my chest. So i hope I don't get a cough.

Hmm, if your upper back also hurts it can make make breathing more difficult.  I know, you complained about your shoulders, not your back.  The shoulder pain could be masking back pain.

Was going to watch THE SMALLEST SHOW ON EARTH last night, but the DVD from Netflix was broken in two...so, sending it back, hopefully to receive a working disc...otherwise, next film on my queue is BLACK SAMURAI.

Did you advise Netflix so they can send a replacement without waiting for the broken disc?

Prayers and vibes request for a good friend of mine from church. Her name is Dolores and she's in her late 80s. Absolutely wonderful lady with a sharp tongue, just when it's needed most, a fantastic pinochle player and she always has a free moment to help anyone in need. She apparently fell this morning when she went out to get her paper. It seems as though she has broken her hip and possibly her hand.

A double whammy, poor Dolores.

I'm off to church and then to a party.  It's a "musical theatre" party where there will be lots of singing.  I was invited by the guy playing "John' in my production of the Helicopter show.  There are a lot of people who I know that will be going.  I'm not much for the social aspect of a party.  I feel very awkward.  However, I should go to this for several reasons.  1.  There really isn't a reason that I should not go. 2. It's good for the "image" that an MD show up a party where there is singing, especially with people you haven't cast. 3.  It's good for the self-esteem.  'Tis a puzzlement.

I read GRAYSON last night (it was short) and was correct when I guessed I was in for a real treat.  It is a beautifully written story about the morning she spent swimming with the briefly orphaned gray whale.  I highly recommend reading the author's journey to the discovering of the baby whale & the happy ending.

I'm thinking of reading her other book.

Didn't keep my mind fully from Dolores, though. I spoke with her son, who said she didn't actually break her hip. She dislocated it in a way that''s actually worse. It will require surgery, but the surgery is so intensive that they may not perform it on her because of her age. The decision will be made tomorrow. In the meantime, she's on painkillers that seem to be working their magic.

As I was leaving the parking lot, my friend Margo asked if I wanted to get a burger.  Of course!  I was just heading someplace to get something to eat, so it was perfect timing.  We went to Red Robin and it was absolutely packed!  I got there first and went into the bar, where there's no waiting.  A table opened up and I moved from the bar.  We had some pretty good burgers and some nice chatting.

I had to leave within an hour because I had a ticket to see a local production of a play called, "The Pizza Man (http://books.google.com/books/about/Pizza_Man.html?id=oCr5FO9e7IkC)."  A friend of mine was in it and it turned out that several mutual friends were in the audience.  The theater only holds about 42 seats, so we all sat close to each other and visited a bit before the show.  The play was pretty well done, but it's quite dated.  It only has two women and one man (my friend Tim played the man) and his character went to Viet Nam.  They also mention The Phil Donahue Show, but it never felt like it was in the 1970s or even the 1980s.  The actors and the set were all pretty good, but the show itself wasn't great...not bad, but not great.

When I was at my sister's, she gave me a candy bar that's dairy-free and vegan.  She said it was like a Milky Way bar, but vegan.  Okay.  Well, I just had it and it's actually very good!  It's a Twilight candy bar by Go Max Go Foods (http://www.gomaxgofoods.com/).  It's certainly not sugar-free, but I really liked it!  Jane (and any other vegetarians/vegans), I can highly recommend it. :D
